extract the boot.img from the rom.zip and place it in your fastboot folder, then flash it via fastboot command fastboot flash boot boot.img then fastboot erase cache and reboot your phone

Oh don't worry it can be fixed easily.
Go get this rom its as about as close as you can get to stock>>>>>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562603
next get this recovery>>>>>https://db.tt/Y82XOdb0
Now go into bootloader and select fastboot by pressing the power button, plug in the phone and go to next step
copy the twrprecovery file into your fastboot folder then open a cmd window from fastboot folder, "hold shift and right click then open command window here". now type fastboot flash recovery twrprecovery.img
now unplug phone and press power button once and then select second option down recovery and press power button.
when recovery loads press wipe then advanced wipe and tick ALL of the boxes and then swipe to wipe at the bottom.
plug phone back in and now go back to first screen and press "mount" then press "mount usb storage", now copy the rom, that I told you to download, onto your sdcard, when it is copied press "unmount"
now extract the boot.img from the rom zip on your pc and copy it to your fastboot folder.
in recovery press "reboot" then "bootloader.
now in command window type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and then "fastboot erase cache". unplug phone and now press power button again and select recovery again.
press "install" and then select the rom that you copied over and swipe at the button to flash it, then reboot.

you need a custom recovery like cwm or twrp to install the rom, then when the rom has installed you can reinstall the stock recovery if you wish.

that usually happens because your bootloader is locked, it needs to be unlocked, and just leave it unlocked unless you need to send it for repair

you unlock it via fastboot, not recovery
Go here>>>>>http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader and create an account and read it all then follow instructions to unlock bootloader. and leave the browser window open until you are finished. once its unlocked install your twrp recovery. the guide i posted earlier can be used after you have unlocked, just use the stock rom you already have instead of the arhd one I linked to

Nevermind. It works. Thanks a ton nogotaclue. been working on this from midnight last night.

Keeps cycling through CWM

Just got a One X.
Unlocked the boot loader.
Installed CWM (v5.8.4.0 from fast boot)
Then when i navigate to the rom it says its completed update? seems to take only 30 seconds when I reboot it brings me back in CWM.
Basically I can mount the phone phone through clock work mod and see the rom/zip file but it installs as update and just keeps popping back into clockwork mod? am I able to just get this back to normal?
finding update package...
opening update package...
installing update...
finishes after 15 seconds? saying install from sdcard complete. have I missed a step?
Help me please guys I feel the information I followed as done away with a boot.img?
Cheers,
Gary

I extracted the boot image from the downloaded rom and placed that in to the fastboot folder? I followed these instructions mate, I think ive messed up the boot?
Copy the CM10 ZIP file to your phone’s internal SD card.
On the PC, extract the Fasboot.zip. You will get a folder named Fastboot.
Extract the boot.img file from the cm10_endeavoru-ota-eng.noeri-028.zip file and place it into the Fastboot folder.
Turn your phone off.
Boot to Fastboot Mode. Hold down the Volume Down and the Power buttons until the screen turns on to enter Bootloader Mode.
In Bootloader Mode, highlight Fastboot Mode using the Volume keys and select it by using the Power button.
Connect your phone to your PC via USB cable.
Open a command prompt on your PC and navigate it to the Fastboot folder.
In the command prompt, type fastboot devices to check if your device has successfully connected to your PC. Your phone’s serial number should appear on the screen.
Flash the boot.img by typing the following in the command prompt:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Go back to your phone and select Bootloader to go back to the main Bootloader menu.
In Bootloader Mode, highlight Recovery using the Volume keys and select it by using the Power button to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery.
Select Wipe data/factory reset > Yes.
Select Install ZIP from SD card > Choose ZIP from SD card > select the cm10_endeavoru-ota-eng.noeri-028.zip file > Yes.
Select Go back > Reboot system now.
Ive then updated to a newer cwm as per this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594819
I dont think i can enter fast boot no longer? I can still mount things, but dont know what else.

As soon as the phone reboots press the vol down + power buttons, and phone will reboot into bootloader.
Also if that isnt working, connect phone to pc and in cmd enter 'fastboot reboot bootloader'

Your bootloader and recovery are independent of your rom. you will be able to access them even without a rom installed.
the erase cache fuction is not necessary.
Just flash your boot image again.. and try installing the rom again.

Also have you updated your hboot?? or is it the old one?
I dont think I updated the hboot? should I bother?
I am using the CM10 rom? I know its down to each tastes and requirement but is this a decent one? phone runs smoother than my LG 4X HD P880 despite that scoring more in benchmarks.
I still technically have not installed the rom through CWM? I just used cmd prompt to flash a boot image then it started up.

You can update the hboot if you want. All the sense based JB roms work only on the upgraded hboot. Though AOSP roms work on all hboots. So upto you.

After unlocking my bootloader, I decided to flash ViperX and my phone got stuck in the white screen stating "HTC quietly Brilliant". I tried pressing the power button for a few seconds and it would go back to the same screen. I can only boot into Hboot and Fastboot USB. I tried botting into CWM recovery and realized that it it's gone. I've also tried using ADB but no use as it can't detect my device. Any help would be appreciated as I dont want to send the phone to HTC at the moment.

Just thought I'd share this what I copied from a good source what helped me when I started flashing my hox but I use Linux so I don't have a clue about any window issues
.) Open the .zip file and copy 'boot.img' to your fastboot folder. Or the folder you use
.) Turn off your phone and enter the bootloader (Hold the Volume Down and Power Keys while off).
) Select 'Fastboot' by pushing the Power Key.
.) Plug your phone into your computer using a USB cable.
.)Now go to your computer and open a command window inside the fastboot folder (Hold SHIFT + Right Click on any white-space).
.) Type 'fastboot devices.'
) Type 'fastboot erase cache' and push enter. This can fix problems with bootloops or bootfailures.
.) Type 'fastboot flash boot boot.img' and push enter. It should say 'OKAY' if successful.
.) On your phone, select 'HBOOT' using the Power Key and scroll down to 'Recovery' using the Volume Down Key. Push to Power Key again to select it.
Once in recovery you can navigate by tapping the screen or by using the Power and Volume Up/Down Keys.
.) Select 'wipe data/factory reset' and accept the warning screen.
) Now select 'advanced' and select 'wipe dalvik cache.'
) Select 'mounts and storage' and then 'mount USB storage.'
.) Copy the .zip file you downloaded (Don't unzip it!) onto the SD card of your phone.
.) Unmount USB Storage on your phone and navigate back to the Recovery Homescreen.
.) Now select 'install zip from sdcard' followed by 'choose zip from sdcard.'
.) Select the .zip file and let it install.

[Q] HELP HELP Upgrading hboot gone bad

Hi Everyone,
I was trying to install the vemon viper x 3.3.6 (Im kind of new to flashing rom onto phones) onto my htc one x and had to update my hboot from 0.98 to 1.31 which i did with JBW tool and worked perfect and i unlocked my bootloader again but wen i was finished unlocking my bootloader i accendently factory reset my phone so it removed the vemon viper x 3.3.6 zip folder off my phone and cant run my old rom which is the vemon viper x 2.7 as it isnt a jellybean rom. So when i start my phone it loads the rom but doesn't boot. All i can get into is my hboot. My htc one x is s-on as well. Please any help would be great.

I flashed clockworkmod recovery onto my phone but i cant get into my phone to use the usb storage option to copy the rom onto my phone.
enter the bootloader by pressing volume - and the power button together as long as you are in the bootloader, do not let go before that.....then navigate to HBOOT - RECOVERY. it boots to recovery and activate the mount as mass storage device in the mounts and storage section (if you have CWM) if you get an error by doing that i suggest you flash the latest CWM recovery 5.8.4.0 first. older ones dont have this option !

That notification is normal, we all have that due to the usb cable being connected !
Did you install the rom with the cable connected ? That's a no go......always install a rom without the usb connected ! First put the phone into the bootloader, hold power and volume - until you are in. Then the fastboot command
Fastboot erase cache
From this point you disconnect the cable. enter the recovery and re-install the viper rom again.
You did flash the boot.img from the rom right ?

I am going to sound very stupid. Could you give me the exact line of command to use if the fastboot folder is saved in the local storage on the computer (c: drive), i dont want to do more damage then i have.:silly:
Example when the fastboot files are in
C:\fastboot\the fastboot files
Then you copy that battscript into that folder
Then you navigate to that folder and hold down shift and right click the mouse inside that folder, then choose "open command prompt here"
In that command prompt you type
Battscript.bat (hit enter)
And the phone should start rebooting.
If the fastboot folder is somewhere else you repeat my steps only change folder that i used.....

[Q] No compatible RUU, phone possibly soft bricked. Help?

I have an international One x, I don't know what I did wrong but my phone never gets past the ROM's logo screen. I've tried flashing about 6 different ROMs that all worked before but the boot.img file never flashes. When I type the command in fastboot, it says it flashed successfully on the pc but the phone just shuts down. When I open it again, it doesn't boot. I also tried restoring to a stock nandroid backup (from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1975140 ) and. I tried restoring to a backup I'd made a month ago but neither worked.
I tried looking for a RUU to run but none worked or are compatible because I can't find one higher than 3.16 and I have S-ON so can't flash anything below that. I looked on the internet in general and here http://www.androidruu.com/?developer=Endeavor
Info about the phone:
It's S-ON with an unlocked bootloader
hboot 1.39.0000
CID HTC__J15
Software version 3.16.415.4
radio-5.1204.162.29
Posting here is a last resort, I've tried everything I can think of over the past 3 weeks and I don't know what to do

Info about the phone:
It's S-ON with an unlocked bootloader
hboot 1.39.0000
CID HTC__J15
Software version 3.16.415.4
radio-5.1204.162.29
Posting here is a last resort, I've tried everything I can think of over the past 3 weeks and I don't know what to do

Wow what a poem first thing as you may know, flashing the boot.img is a really important step to do if you want your rom to work... I see that you can't do it but i have just a question, does your phone shuts down immediately after you type the command or at the end of the flashing process?

Shuts down the second I press enter.
The only other thing I can think of is trying to flash the ROM whose boot.img last successfully flashed but I don't know which one that is. Is there a way to find out?

That could be a solution but there's no way to find out the Rom you've installed previously...

Okay. Do you have any suggestions then?
Is there a way that I can change the files inside the RUU?

Don't think so, and it would be very dangerous for your phone

So I should just give up for now and wait for a suitable RUU?

I've tried re-installing the drivers but I don't see how a different pc would help since there are no compatible RUUs
You can use a nandroid backup

Hi Hadya!
I guess you should start from scratch. U will lost all data on your device but after all it is working again.
!!! IMPORTANT !!!
1. Make sure your device is fully charged for this. Otherwise it will be a big stress to get it back to work.
2. Copy all data from the SDCard away because you will loose EVERYTHING!!!
3. You need your unlock_token.bin to unlock your device again. If you don't have it available please request this from the HTC web site.
Now, let's recover your device...
1. Download this file and extract it.
http://ul.to/j4j1cpft
2. Enter fastboot
Press POWER & VOLUME DOWN KEY and enter the bootloader
3. Connect your device to PC for the 1st Recover
Test if your device is available via fastboot and use this command:
fastboot devices
You should see your device with Serial number
Now lock your device back with command:
fastboot oem lock
You will see a short message and your bootloader is locked. You should see the message on top of the bootloader with RELOCKED.
That's fine.
Now start the ARUWIZARD from the downloade ZIP file and flash your device as you know it.
There is a ROM file inside which is same as your current hboot. This flash procedure will allign your partitions on the device and it might be that you will loose all SDCard files. I'm pretty sure that you will loose it.
The ROM contains only hboot, recovery and boot Images but it will "RECOVER" your device.
4. Unlock your device
After this procedure you are ready to unlock your device again. Enter fastboot and flash your unlock token again.
fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_token.bin
After the device is unlocked flash boot and recovery image of your choice within this way:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot erase Cache
After this you have a half running device.
5. Second Recover Step
Now you need to do a final repair for the device. For this you need to download Android Revolution HD 31.x ROM.
1. Put this ROM on your SDCard
2. Enter recovery and flash this ROM
3. Flash the boot.img to your device
4. Start your device and ignore the 1st Setup steps.
5. Now go to:
SETTINGS > Backup & reset > Reset phone (touch this)
6. On the next page scroll down to the bottom and select:
"Erase Music, Picture... on the storage"
7. Press "OK" and wait
When the phone is back again device is fully recovered. The SDCard is reformated and all partitons are back again.
Now you can do everything you want with your device again.
Best regards!

I'm facing a tiny problem with running the ARUWizard. It says my phone's battery is below 30% and won't flash every time although I fully charged it till the light turned green.
Hmmm... this seems to be a tricky thing.
Try this:
1. Copy the rom.zip into the same Folder where your fastboot.exe is located
2. Enter bootloader and go to fastboot.
3. Flash the file with this command:
fastboot flash zip rom.zip
4. Enter the original recovery
5. When you see the red triangle than do a short press on the power button and vol up and you will see the menue as same as you know it from the CWM Recovery
6. Wipe Cache
7. Wipe data/factory
8. unlock the bootloader
9. Flash the rom.img from AHD Image
fastboot flash boot boot.img
10. Flash CWM recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
11. enter Recovery and Mount USB
12. Copy the AHD ROM to your device & flash it
13. Boot the ROM, wait up to 10 minutes bevore you use it & ignore the setup
14. Within the Phone enter Settings and do a FACTORY RESET

Hi,
It sounds like you just need to flash the boot.img from the rom you are trying to flash in fastboot. I suspect you are still s-on? If so that is the problem you are having and can be fixed pretty easy. Can you boot to the white bootloader screen and confirm for me if it is indeed s-on still? It will be S-on if you unlocked via HTCDev
If you are s-off then you most likely just need to wipe cache, dalvik cache, and factory reset in CWM then reboot
FYI - You do not need to be rooted on current rom to install a rom via custom recovery.
Hope this helps!
That didnt help Kevin or may be i did it wrong.
I extracted the boot.img from the ROM i was trying to install & then i created a boot.zip from that boot.img
I moved it to the SD card & tried to install it. It showed installation aborted.
What should i do??

Thanks & appreciate your efforts..

Hi,
Sorry for the confusion, you need to flash the boot.img directly in fastboot to flash it, not in a zip via recovery. Can you boot to the white bootloader screen by powering off phone then pressing and holding Power + Vol Down? If so please tell me if you are s-on at top of white screen.
If it says s-on on bootloader screen then you need to connect phone to PC, and then choose top option on the list (fastboot) at bottom of screen by pressing power button this should make middle of screen change to say "fastboot usb plug" If this is true you need to copy the boot.img from rom you are trying to install to the folder you have the fastboot file in. From there you need to open command prompt in that same folder by hovering mouse over bottom white part of the folder fastboot is in and hold shift and right click . Now choose Open command prompt here from the pop up menu. Finally in the black command prompt box type:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then hit enter. Now type:
fastboot reboot
And hit enter, let me know if phone will fully boot now.
If you have too much trouble with this and want me to help further, please install Teamviewer and I can connect remotely and have you fixed up in a bout 5 mins if you want.
Good luck and hope this helps!
Boot.img flash fixed my phone. Thanks a bunch kevin!
Thanks a lot kevin, That worked well!! :good::good::good::good::good:
