Disable Power Button? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey Guys,
I have a problem with the power button on my rooted GS3 I747. Its hard to explain, but the power button is VERY sensitive. While in my pocket, or in my hand, it reboots a lot. Simply running my finger along the power button turns my screen off. I also have trouble turning off my phone because of the button. I was just wondering if there is anyway to completely disable the power button? (Returning to Samsung is not an option My warranty has finished)
Thank you

You can just fix the button or make a cut out in a case that covers the button.

It has no case on it. Any idea on how much it cost to fix it?

Case?

Have you tried putting a case on it?

A cheap case is all you need. Just cut out a hole for the power button. If you want to replace the button, you can search online and see how much it costs. You can fix it yourself. It's not hard.

A case has definitely helped, but it does not solve the problem. I'll look up and try and fix it myself. Thanks for the help

power button issue

Is it just my a100 or can everybody else turn there unit on and off by pushing above the power button. Try and press just below the headphone jack.
tried it. Didn't work for me.
Could it be that the plate is mounted wrong? Mine doesn't turn off, either.
something must be screwed up in there but everything looks normal round the power button and the heaephone jack.

Weirdly it does on mine also! Only noticed it after you mentioned it so I'm not too worried about it. I am curious about why it happens though

I'm not to worried about it either just wondering if there were more out there. Must be a manufacturing defect.

I've had my Acer a 100 for 7 months and the casing between the power button and the head phone socket behaves as if it's the power button including the, click. I'm worried there's a problem since upgrading to ICS the device will sometimes not waken from sleep with the power button nor the casing and I have to press the reset button

Issues with the power button

Hey all, hopefully you can help me out there... I have major issues with the power button on my phone, its hypersenstive and sometimes sticks causing the phone to enter a bootloop. Normally we press on the button and feel the click when it presses down. Well on my phone I no longer need to feel that click, just resting my finger on the button will cause a down press register..
has anyone ever experience this and if so what did you do..
clearly I am out of warranty.. is it worth returning to stock and reseting the counters on it for a rma?

Probably a stupid question but I might as well say it. Is your phone bare or in a case? If its bare doing that I'd totally return to stock and get it fixed, that would drive me up the wall.

[Q] broken power button?

So my power button is acting up, and I think it's a hardware failure.
If the screen is on and I press the power button, the screen turns off, then back on, as if multiple key presses are being registered. If the screen is off and I press the power button, sometimes the long press power menu comes up.
I think the ribbon cable associated with the power button is failing, what do you guys think?
EDIT: just found out the power button is surface mounted to the mother board :-/ so that's a bummer if the power button is the issue.

First, and only, bump. Does anyone have any advice? I've ordered the blue plastic power button itself, but not the actual switch (I don't know how to surface mount).
I'm going to replace that. If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what else to do. Can I reflow the power switch on the motherboard somehow?
Thanks

You can get a replacement part on ebay, but it is a piece that needs to be soldered to the board. You should call local cell repair shops and see if they have the expertise to do this.
I've had this issue for the last 3 months. I've just been using the home button as power on and quick toggle screen off.

Yeah. I'll see if this button replacement works first, then I'll look into having the actual switch replaced. I'm good at soldering, but I've never surface mounted, and I don't think my phone is a good place to experiment ha. I'll start looking into repair shops.

You use your home button as the power on and off? What do you use as the home button then?
The home button.
I never said I used the home button as power off, I use a quick toggles screen off setting for that

Power Button Issues

A friend of mine has issues where is power button is kinda loose and the power menu will always come on and so will the screen when it is off. Any way of repairing this? I cannot seem to find a guide on doing so or the right parts, does he need to just buy a new button for the power button or the whole daughterboard for it?

Probably just needs to replace the power button. I've seen this sold on places like eBay. Installation may require a pro job, however.

Disable long hold power button to reset phone?

Is there a way to disable the hard reset caused by holding the power button for 7-10 seconds? I used the xposed additions to disable the power button, but it does not disable the hard reset from the very long power button hold. The reason I want to disable it is because my power button seems defected and it constantly presses it on its own which causes my phone to reboot or shut down. I used xposed to disable the power button and it helps, but the shut downs and reboots still occur from time to time.
I highly doubt it. That's going to be something hard coded into the processor or something along those lines. On just about any system you need to have some way of performing a hard reset even when everything else is royally screwed up. Not having that function is just a bad idea IMO, though I understand why you want to stop it.
I highly recommend you look into replacing the power button though. I've seen several devices become corrupt or damaged beyond repair due to the constant rebooting.
Or at least look at the power button thread in general section. I think the last few posts describes a somewhat risky way of fixing it yourself.

Thanks for the reply. So I've decided to remove the button as a temporary solution. I'm not removing the connected part on the inside, just the plastic button on the side and hopefully that'll stop anything from ever reaching the button deep inside. My only issue would be if the phone happened to shut down and I am not around a usb port, I may be stuck with a powered off phone. Unless someone has an alternative way of powering on the device without the use of the power button or a charger?
By the way, I am the OP but didn't realize I wasn't on my account when I posted the question.
A lot of the power button issues are actually a faulty switch, meaning removing the plastic piece won't help much. If it does for you that's great though. You'll be able to use something small like a pin or paperclip to still turn it on though.
