Ad Blocker - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Here is a good ad blocker for ROOTED phones that works on most GS4 roms.

Hit the Thanks button if this is of help to you.
GS4 running Liquid Smooth at the moment

For reference, this was the adblocker that was on the ROM Toolbox.
Google has already removed 99% of ad blockers on the Google Play Store and we got lucky they didn’t notice ROM Toolbox. We have since then removed Ad blocker from the main screen on ROM Toolbox.

Also, this should be in the themes and apps.

Just what I was looking for.

What's the reason behind Google removing such apps?

their official reason was that if affected other app developers revenue from their ad supported apps, which is true. But the bigger more then likely real reason is because it messed with googles ad revenue. either way its not that hard to install a ad blocker anyway. just install a third party market (i use f-droid) and install adaway.
the reason jrummy removed the adblocking feature of rom toolbox is because if he didnt, the whole app would of been removed from the playstore. In turn, the posted app in the op is useless, its no longer maintained which means it wont block ads anymore (or will just block old ads, which is pretty much pointless)

you can download the ad block zip from goldeneye roms and pull out the hosts file and put it in system > etc

Why the ad's

Good Morning..
Hey I have rooted and installed Darkside Rom .3 v4 with Venom. I have been noticing on my home screen a few ad icon's pop up every day....does anybody know how I can find out where theses ad's are coming from....
Thanks in advance.
You can try this app. Ad Network Detector and delete what may be causing the ads.
Its most likely an app you downloaded from market.
I noticed that mp3 download apps come with ads

That is from an app you downloaded. No rom has ads in it.

You could also try downloading rom toolbox and enable the ad blocking. It installs host files so would block ads in every app (just about. Angry birds it doesnt).

Adfree Android works in Angry Birds for me.
AdAway hands down is the best (and only) ad removal app I've got. I've tried lots, and none compare. It allows you to white-list sites if you wish to keep them and removes all the rest. As far as I know, you need to be rooted, but I will stand by this app 100%.

Impossible for unrooted device.
Need to root 1st
Firefox for Android has Adblocker add on now. Probably for unrooted.
Obviously only for web surfing.

Just what I was afraid of
Thnx guys anyway.
Work around.
Root phone install add blocker run it and let it change hosts file .
Run Triangle Away and then remove root by flashing stock kernel.

I seem to remember a way of blocking ads on the Transformer Prime without root using a trick with connecting to the internet through a proxy or something. I'll have a look around to find the thread and link it in a bit. Hopefully the principles are the same.

Jack
EDIT:

here is the link, should work with the S3
Try Mozilla Firefox with ad free add on

Try Adblock Plus
Try Adblock plus,i used it when my phone was unrooted not all ads were removed but it was quiet effective, but it will only block ads on wi-fi

i think adblock plus is an adblocker only for the mozilla browser. it won't block ads from apps and games.
root is recommended in android.

Has anyone noticed that replacing the hosts file with one that blocks ads doesn't work on the GS3? The same hosts file works fine on my GS2.

which is? about the adblocker? or about the root? hehehe.
if adblock plus also blocks ads from apps and games, then that's the answer to OP's quesion.
both, actually. root is not recommended I'd you don't know what you need it for and you're not sure what to do

The only way I've found is to modify each app. Many apps only work properly if they get their ad feed. modifying paid apps is almost certainly against the licence you accepted when you bought it. rooting is the only way to block ads for all apps and browsers, even then many google/facebook etc.

Yes, for rooted phones only.
It blocks the ads and also protects You.
It is a firewall, called Droidwall, it is also free.
look on Google Play.
some apps some just script only I mean its out there.... just got to search but I like rom toolbox for all in one access to everything
I've been using AdAway for almost a year and it works very well. So +1 for Adaway.

+1 for this one. I love ROM Toolbox, but it seems like AdFree is a little more efficient.
What about lucky patcher? I like that app....and it auto updates itself!!!!
adfree is the way to go
Yeah, AdAway is nice, but I think ROM toolbox is best. Just better to get more tools.

AdFree. Set-it and forget-it. Easy.
Ad away is the one that works for me so far a free didn't block some apps for me but never looked the look of rom toolbox

AdAway for sure
Hi,
I installed Adfree and it is working, but ...
... the part of screen where ads were is now black. So space for ads remains but there are no ads just black rectangle. Is there a way how to solve this and to be without ads and to use full screen space?
thanks

Do ADD BLOCKERS work

I was wondering if anyone has used any add blockers that work. I have used 2 and they don't seem to work.
I still see adds in apps and specially when I browse thepiratebay.org those are really annoying.

Ad-Free Android is the most popular, yes it works for a majority of ads. It does require root and requires you to reboot your device after applying.

Well for the apps that I use it doesn't work but didn't really checked into it but i install it if it's offers with the roms i flashed and use adaway for the one's that is not blocked with the add blocker.

ADD the pros and cons of the different AD blocker apps. I use AD-free and it works for most apps i have. You're welcome for the spelling lesson too.

I love this thing!
Some ads are server dependant. Meaning the ads are broadcasted from their server. Only way to block them is by editing the apk and removing the code that calls for the add.

Ad-away is a great one works like a charm on mine.
Thanks for the replies guys. I'm more interested in removing the ads from websites than from APP's. My friend is using a Gingerbread ROM for his Sprint S2 and it has an ads blocker built into it and it works really good. It's the only reason why he's still on GB.
I've tried adfree Android before and it really wasnt working for me at all but i will give Ad Away a try
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Try and find the source of the ads and add that domain to your hosts file.
Go to mvpshosts.org, I think that's the address, and download and use one of their hosts files.
That's basically all the ad blockers do anyway as far as I understand it.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Another way I remove ads from apps that don't need internet to function is by using droid wall and blocking them access. You can also use lucky patcher or another app to edit the apps permissions and deny it internet access. I do this for games
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
I use "ad free android" and it works on everything except the programs that have the ads delivered from their own servers as mentioned above. you can also do this to your PC, and i HIGHLY recommend it. No more ads on any website.
edit: also if you're on a not-so-unlimited data plan it will save your high speed date, since you're not downloading ads every 5 seconds.
The simple answer is yes. Most of the time at least, I still get the occasional Ad every now and then, but it's fine with me.

Adblock Favorites

What is everyone's favorite ad block app? I've been using Adaway, but have run into problems as of late on PA. Just lookin for a replacement.
It helps if you could tell us what the problem is..

AdAway, very light and many updates!
ROM toolbox pro, but not just for the ad blocking. Get everything in one so it is nice to have for file browser, ROM editor, terminal, etc. Blocks more than just adds too, and I think the free version does it.

it applies with no errors, but fails to block ads. I've already gone to code.Google and starred the issue. I only queried what the preference of xda in general was.

I use AdAway on PA. When I install new updates, I clear cache so I need to block again is that your problem? If it is it's normal.

Are you referring to ads in Chrome Beta? I think ads get through if you are using the Spdy feature. Adaway is blocking ads in apps but not in Chrome Beta while using the proxy.

Buy the app to get rid of ads, otherwise you're screwing the developer.

A friend of mine showed me Ad-Bomb. I think it's fairly new but does a good job of blocking browser ads as well as mobile game apps. Also found that it blocks all of the Hulu Plus ads when I'm watching from my iPad or console. There is a small fee though.
