LGis the problem with this great phone.
Already s4 & HTC One getting 4.3 & G Pro still at 4.1. Worst.
Thanks To #madmack & #Ricardo for bringing 4.3 Via CM. CM is the future of android.

Well actually as of late LG was pretty good with updates. I took my lg 4x HD from Europe over to the USA and this phone was updated to jelly bean even thought it wasn't over the air rather then with the lg software it still was updated. So I would say that mist likely international non carrier branded versions, could possible see an update. Carrier branded version's on the other hand specially in the USA ? I wouldn't guarantee on that. That's why we can be thankful if developers provide us with the newest software when carrier and also manufacture NOT.

Personally I think it is ridiculous for any manufacture to abandon a flagship before atleast 1 year of regular updates. As the xda community, we should make enough noise with LG so that they take note and deliver updates for some time to come ..not sure how but...maybe Facebook / twitter will be the place to start

I send by email to LG:
"Recently I got the Optimus G PRO E989 in Brazil. The Android is still 4.1.2. There is expected to launch an update to Android 4.3
The LG OPTIMUS PRO never received an update. I would like a report from LG LG. OPTIMUS GN2 comes with Android 4.2.2
I called the support in Brazil and nobody knows if it will be updated and when.
Is there any date or timeline?
Thank you

Here is the response I got from LG on the subject of an OS update..
" ------Reply to Your Inquiry-------
Dear Mr. Simon,
Thank you for contacting LG Electronics!
By the moment there is no information about any upgrades on the OS for your phone. An extensive evaluation needs to be done by LG, Google and the carrier for your phone.
In case LG Electronics together with the carrier for this model decide to release any updates you will received a notification in your phone.
Once again thank you for contacting LG! In case you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again either via email, or by calling our customer service division at your convenience. At the bottom, you will find a survey where you will be able to score your experience with me. Have a wonderful day!

Yes, the update is pushed from service provider's server... Because adding BLOAT is the most important (for carrier), but last step in update... So OTA is pushed from AT&T servers...

I wonder if they pay for the Bloat or do bloat developers pay them to use their bloat hence why the Service providers install it. If it is the other way around, I guess the Service providers think it adds value to the user....Little do they know most of us hate it!

[Q] You think development on this phone will be better since it is the brother of the

...Nexus 4
The Optimus G looks awesome but I am on the fence on buying this because of LG's track record of updating their devices and lock bootloaders. But since the Optimus G is what the Nexus 4 is based off of, will development be a lot smoother than Lg's other phones? I am coming from the Epic 4G and they had some great development over there because of the close resemblance to the Nexus S. I am hoping this will be the case for the Optimus G.
What are your thoughts?
If we can get around the bootloader I think it will be. Assuming we can and I get it, I'll do some development. (I did some over at sdx for awhile).
I contacted lg about that and this was their response
No, at this time the bootloader is locked and there are no plans for the release of a developer edition.

"At this time"...maybe they'll rethink it. :/
I've been wondering the same thing. My EVO 4G is long past its prime and I'm trying to decide between the Optimus G and the GS3, since the Nexus 4 isn't getting CDMA anytime soon.
The GS3 already has a great development community, but the LGOG has much more potential if the bootloader gets unlocked.

*sigh* I really hope we can get the bootloader unlock. I think LG purposely responded like that to sway you into buying it. They want sales afterall and will most likely imply that they will unlock it when they won't.

Are there any news about that? I would really like to buy the Optimus G, especially after what happened with the Nexus 4...
But I definitely can't take another Optimus Speed like update oddysey. 1 month after the official Google update is out should be the maximum time, until Cyanogenmod or AOSP is running on the Optimus G.
The next question would be: If I order it from the US, which model will work in Germany?

I'm more concerned with the updates, because always waiting for LG to upload the source won't work for me, as we all know how long that can take... Or is this no concern with the Snapdragon and the fact that the G is pretty close to the Nexus 4?

I'm pretty sure we can use the same source of the Nexus 4, beside the camera and LTE, our hardware is basically the same. Like I said, the only real problem will be getting LTE and camera working on custom roms.

If I'm not mistaken, LTE is already embedded into the code for AOSP roms like Cyanogenmod and AOKP, so there won't be a total, ground-up code write like there was for WiMax drivers. I could easily be wrong about this, but from following the AOSP progress on my own device and on the SGS3, LTE progress has seemed to go a LOT faster than WiMax ever did. Then again, it could be because maintainers could use code build from other devices (i.e. ATT One X, VZ/ATT SGS3) and it'd fairly easily transfer, since the radios utilized were the same.

ATT will most likely be the last to get an update out of all the Optimus G Pro derivatives. Reason being is that the US is generally very far behind Asia in updates and ATT has to load all of their bloated garbage into the ROM before they will release it.

Going by the release history of the phone, after Korea the first country to get the phone was US, followed by other countries in Asia, Europe etc... I guess US version should therefore be the next in line after Korea.. There was a new bit about 2 weeks back that we will get knock on and quick window as part of Kit Kat, so maybe AT&T is taking time to get that included (pardon me if it sounds delusional )

Hmm....Can I have some questions to you? What country do you live, and how Samsung and LG are evaluated in your country?

Okay. I'm from Philippines. Samsung is still at top when it comes to sales, since most people are affected by the "popularity" of it. While LG is not that much patronized, due to poor commercials and ads. Only techie people knows what is the best brand to buy. For me, LG outwits Samsung. Personal opinion only.

Aha...
In Korea, Samsung is best too, and LG always tries to catch it, but...
You know, I think LG misses something always.
G3 has a QHD and Snapdragon 800, which cause some lags.
Optimus LTE2 was a flagship device, but only 1 update comes out (ICS - JB 4.1.2), and never comes the next.
But LG's UI and Convinience are much better than Samsung's.
Yeah, yeah.
Anyway, we will try to upload it as fast as possible, so wait until next week. (Maybe faster than that.)

Oh. I see. I guess Samsung really outwits LG in many ways. :silly:
Really? G3 lags sometimes? That I do not know. I'll search more about G3.
Thanks friend!

In KK, it has little lags, but if you upgrade to LP, almost of lags will be gone, so don't worry too much, my friend.
(My mother uses it. Haha)
