[q] Warning for any rooted Tab 7!!!!! - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Today I finally rooted my Tablet 7 with some help from gr8nole here on XDA. Needless to say I was very happy and started downloading any and all apps that required root I was interested in. Unfortunately about an hour into my adventure I downloaded an app called LCD Density. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS APP. It soft bricked my device after changing the density from 240 to 160. I am now just trying to get back to square one again and have no idea what to do. I wiped the cache partition and re flashed root. Reboot same thing again. The Samsung screen is vertical not horizontal and doing the infamous glow from blue to white and back to blue and nothing more continuously. I am in CWM now and not really sure what step to take next as I don't want to risk a hard brick. I went to Rom Manager in CWM and no files were there when I went to use the backup feature What should I do?

Thanks bro I actually just finally rebooted with the stock firmware. Brand new again but that's ok actually because all of the apps are backed up on Google. Now I just have to Root again...Can you believe that LCD crap is still lingering around on it? Say hello to the delete button!!!!
This is for the USA version.

Thank you..Quick question. How do you get into Recovery with TWRP? I flashed it with Odin with the auto restart and with out. I used the CWM Recovery vol up power and home keys but it does not do anything. I am rooted already as well. Could that be the issue? Im using the TAR file too. I really would like to use the touch screen option instead of pushing buttons like a dinosaur

When you flash twrp or cwm in odin, you must uncheck autoreboot. Btw hold down power vol up and home button, when samsung logo appears, release the power button while still pessing down vol up and home

Why didnt you just change the density back? Open build.prop, or push a stock version of it via adb or (idk if it is possible) via fastboot.
Then yoir problem should be solved. Those tweaks have got nothing to do with cache, or data, or so
Thats also why you need root and also the reason, why it is not so easy, to root some devices
But try brain.exe and everything should work, as it should

Manually flash the OTA 4.1.2 update

There seems to be quite a good number of folks here that have not yet received the OTA update.
For those that are tired of checking and waiting or playing the date game. See the last post in link below and be sure to thank reinbeau for hosting the file:
AT&T to release OTA update on Dec. 27 to enable Multi-Window on Note II

Ok, guys, go blow up my Mediafire account. update.zip. I used the /cache method and stock recovery, didn't wipe my phone but did break root; you are welcome to CWM it in Recovery, but it will wipe. Enjoy it while it lasts

Note: There are two ways to apply this update. The method I recommend requires that you be rooted.
Method 1:
Download the update zip file from the link that is referenced in above post. Root your phone and use root explorer to copy to /cache. Once copied; do full unroot, reboot into recovery, flash from cache, then reboot and enjoy 4.1.2.
Another note: Just to clarify, this update file is for stock 4.1.2 that is sent via OTA. Also, I suggest to unroot before installing the update because it will break root. You can root again using the exynos exploit after applying the update. Also, this process does require stock recovery!
Method 2:
If you do not want to root your phone. You can save the update.zip on your external sdcard and apply from there but by doing so I believe it will wipe your device. By updating from cache, I was able to update my wife's phone without it being wiped clean.

That's because this has not been released to Kies. If you were on stock rom and recovery, your status should show normal and it should show as official when you boot into download mode.
Also, if this was not official, you wont be able to flash this using stock recovery since it checks the signature for the file and it would have failed signature verification.

I tried recovery (volume up+home+power). I left buttons pressed and it only shows NOTE II splash screen then blanck then the screen again every 10 or so seconds.. never gets into recovery mode. It boot normally if I just press power button, and it goes into odin if I do VOL down +home+power. Any ideas why recovery is not working?

First of all you need to get into recovery mode, not download mode. To get into recovery you hold Volume up+Home button+Power button. You should only hold this three button combo until the screen flashes with the splash screen then immediately let go.

I was copying the file with root explorer.
I mentioned the "download mode " screen just to give a picture of the phone behavior(what is working vs what was not), did not meant to cause confusion there.
I have a new problem now as mentioned in my last post
I an attempt to get into recovery and clear the cache, I read in a forum that I could get into recovery via GOOMANAGER. I installed it and used "reboot to recovery " and now phone is stuck in ENLESS LOOP of the "samsung NOTE 2" screen.
I cannot make it boot normally now.I think the phone is stuck trynig to get into recovery similar to the manual way described before (when I press UP+HOME+POWER to get into recovery phone only looped samsung screen). HOw can I break the loop ?
The only screen working right now is ODIN (DOWN +HOME+POWER).
Go to sammobile and download the stock rom then flash via odin.

I'm not understanding how to do this. My device is a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Bell version 317 which I understand is the same as AT&T. I have unlocked and rooted my device on 4.1.1 and have Root explorer installed. Downloaded the update link and copied that file into the /cache folder....unrooted via superuser. When I try to get in2 recovery it is successful but I don't know what to do from there.....there's an option to format cache which I'm assuming will delete everything in that folder.
Also, I cannot install the zip via external sd card which the update is also on
Any help?

Hey guys,
I was running AOKP 4.2.1 and tried to upgrade to AOKP D2TMO_JB_MR_1_build-3 using Goo Manager. I created a backup and tried flashing the new OS with GApps.
When I rebooted, I got the message that the 'Setup Wizard has crashed'. Unfortunately when I hit OK, it keeps looping and I can't get out. When I try again and reboot, I get the Google X and it is stuck there.
I can't seem to boot into TWRP to restore (tried Vol Up + Power and Vol Down + Power and Vol Up and Down + Power). Any thoughts?
It won't boot normally at all? Can you link me the rom directly that you flashed? I would assume a rom from them off their official Goo.im host would be safe, but errors can be made. If your computer recognizes your phone it can be saved.
Here is what I found http://goo.im/devs/aokp/d2tmo I wouldn't hesitate one bit to flash this, neither did 150 people, I'm curious as to what happened to your phone.

I got restored fine. Looks like the files have been deleted by Goo since the install worked as far as it was concerned. I think I will hold off on upgrading for a while.
BTW .. did AOKP stop development? Seems as if this new build was authored by someone else
Kasper quit devving for now as life got in the way... Jamison is starting to dabble and there is Bajee with rootbox which has Aokp inside with other options, I suggest his ROM for future nightlys and development

Could there be an issue if the phone, according to the build prop, is a Nexus? I've always wondered what would happen if I updated a ROM through GooManager while I'm cruising as a Nexus.
If going through goo it'll try and flash a recovery for the nexus, tell you nexus Roms are compatible for you, I think that's what happens. Why not just change it back to sgh T-999? And d2tmo within the build.prop.

I used this link - Worked just like the video showed except I found that after flashing the TWRP recovery tool, I had to hold volume up & home for an extended period before the tool would boot. Watch the screen. After the Samsung logo dissapears, there is a slight glow on the screen. When that glow disappears, release the keys and you should see a lock screen. Swipe and you're in. Good luck.
