Uninstalled Rom, don't have zip on sd. Help! - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Ok, so I thought I still had the zip on my device after not being able to recall my gesture pattern lock. I could still access the device by logging into through my google account however I couldn't change the lock itself without doing a system wipe.(To my knowledge)
So now I'm stuck in TWRP with no rom to flash to my device, when I connect my nexus 7 to a notebook (win7) I do not get the MTP connection to drag and drop a rom over.
Everything I seemed to try in the ToolKit as well has been unsuccessful, can someone give me a step by step on how to push, flash, install PAC back onto my device and remove this headache of mine.
Thanks in advance!

For future reference, I think you can send and email to your google account to reset your gesture lock.
If you want to flash a rom onto your device just use the toolkit. Should find what you need in Advanced utilities.

Where is the advanced utilities in the tool kit? you must have the wording wrong.
Wish I knew about the reset prior to the this mess >.<

TWRP works with adb. Plug it in to your computer with the adb tools installed, run adb devices, you should see it listed. Change to the folder with your ROM zip, do adb push <rom>.zip /sdcard and it'll be on your device. No fuss, no muss.

This is the driver you need in order to use ADB while in recovery in addition to the Google Driver or else you would see "Flo" under Unknown Devices in your computer device manager.

Thanks I'm wiping the drivers and attempting your method! I'll be back with questions if I have any.:cyclops:

There we go, I had to use a different link in order to download the Minimal ADB And Fastboot Kit.
From there I was able to push the rom onto the device no problem what so ever thanks everyone!

DeeSlivers said:
For some reason the link you provided for ADB and Fastboot doesn't work. My device does show up as a ADB device in the device manager. However I'm still unsure how exactly I push or flash a rom from the notebook to the device itself.
Also his verison of ToolKit isn't what I been using, I have the terminal like green font'd 2013 toolkit by skipsoft is what I have outdated and no longer used or?

Yust use this command:
Code:
adb push (your rom file name) /mnt/sdcard/
Then go to flash menu and you will se your rom in your internal sd card

Ok, so I managed to re-flash my rom back on no problems at all. But problem with that is the gesture lock is still active.
Can someone give me a method to remove this from the account?

Try aroma file manager to delete gesture. Key

Have you read the thread what so ever..?
Yes the device is rooted, it's running PAC Rom newest Nightly.
The issue is, everytime I load the device I get the gesture lock which I don't have the correct information to. I want to reset the password back to a pattern or pin. Cause as of this point it requires me to login to my google account every time I fail to put the gesture in, meaning unless I have access to the wifi zone my device can't be logged into.

You need to install cwm recovery mode. You need to download aromafm1.80.zip file from net. It will be 1.4 mb. Place the file in external SD card. Go into recovery mode. Mount all partitions in advanced section. Then go to the file in SD card in recovery mode and flash the zip file there. Aroma file manager will open. Then go to data/system/gesture.key and delete that key. And reboot device. Pattern will appear but if you draw any pattern., the device will be unlocked

i kinda get ya ,least ur not stuck in recovery same day buyin the bloody thing. my lil mistake of puttin folder instead of zip into internal storage now has me pullin hair out. why cant u just plug bk into pc and it opens the internal folder up.

You're telling me a several step process to "work around" the issue, instead of actually fixing it which isn't what I been asking.

It will remove the pattern lock

What to do if i put my the root filr into my sd card and update already, and i reboot then it seems the same, why is it so?
Because there is nothing to see, you just give yourself more rights,
just like a administrator in windows.
If everything whent well than you will see a app called Super User.
Just try root checker, you can find it in the market

Updated 11-17-12: Now that we have a stable CWMR image thanks to damien667 this procedure should be a lot less risky and less stressful!
This is confirmed working but due to the procedure involved is risky! The standard XDA disclaimer applies: I take no responsibility for bricked devices due to the following rooting procedure, no warranty express or implied is given, I will not be held responsible if you mess up your tablet by following this procedure!
You must unlock the bootloader before performing this procedure!
Credits: Kidgoo for testing and coming up with the method, thanks to damien667 for the fixed CWM images, and Chainfire for the SuperSu zip and binaries!
Before you begin make sure you read and reread the procedure and fully understand the directions.
1. Download the CWM-SuperSU-v0.98.zip
2. Download damien667's fixed CWMR 6.0.1.6 touch version of from here
3. Connect the Nexus 10 to your computer
4. Flash the CWMR image you downloaded in step 2 using fastboot
Code:
fastboot flash recovery /path/to/<recovery>.img
fastboot reboot
5. Touch "Install from SD Card" in CWMR
6. Select CWM-SuperSU-v0.98.zip that was downloaded in step 1
7. Let CWM-SuperSU-v0.98.zip install
8. Select "Reboot System"
9. Enjoy your rooted Nexus 10 !
To keep your custom recovery installed permanently and not get overwritten by the stock recovery when your reboot your tablet delete the following:
Code:
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
Reserved
works! thank you very much!
Awesome!
Now, if only we could code it so it does it all for us!
1-click and go! Im afraid ill fat finger something and have a $550 paper weight :'(
Thanks for the write up!

With regard to downloading the CWM-SuperSU file (for sideloading) do you mean that it should be downloaded on the tab itself, or downloaded into the same folder as adb and fastboot?

If you download it on your tablet you'll need to then place the downloaded zip on the root of the internal storage (I.E not in a folder). Alternatively you can download it using a computer and connect your tablet to the computer and transfer it to the root of the internal storage that way.
I know this is probably a noob question but the fastboot commands (the first two, for booting from CWRT) -- should they be done in Fastboot Mode or can they be done while Nexus 10 is on and at home screen with USB debugging enabled? If you need to be in Fastboot Mode, how do you get there with Nexus 10?
Thanks!

Ok, the problem I have now is while I have the files on my tablet, I cannot move them to the root of the internal storage at this point...??? Suggestions??? Don't you have to be rooted in order to do this???
For some reason when I'm not in fastboot mode, I can use adb (adb devices lists my Nexus 10), but when I'm in fastboot mode, adb no longer recognizes the device. fastboot devices does however see it when in fastboot mode.
Anybody else have this problem or know why this might be happening? Thanks!
I'm still getting the sideload error after updating the ADB
Any insight, please?
So to others who are working on this and awaiting responses from the OP, where exactly have you placed the downloaded files on your tablet? specific locations?? and if so how did you get them there? I'm totally lost at this point, LOL, hoping to get some clarification soon...
Worked ... however .. you DO have to be in FASTBOOT already (power + Vol UP + Vol DOWN) - yeah it might be obvious when you're not tired as hell - but for those wondering
The first line should be:
fastboot boot /path/to/<recovery>.img
no fastboot reboot was needed - it rebooted itself.
I had a HELL of a time finding the sideload entry in CWM (that's just my brain deadness).
You have quite a bit of time More than enough.
THANK YOU!

I have tried 3.8 LG drivers and newest 3.10 LG drivers.
I have uninstalled and resinstalled drivers.
I have downloaded multiple KDZ files with no luck as they freeeze at 49%
I have powered the computer down, phone down, reinstalled drivers, then reconnect phone with no luck..
Continually showing as L02E..
When in download mode the Number above "Rooted" always changes, what is that number?
When I do get download mode going in route to 47% it always says D802 in the box below ( with the "Rooted" text )
Do I have a shot to fix this or am I actually bricked???
Other than download mode it boots only to fastboot mode ( two lines of white text ) but no devices are detected with fastboot or ADB.
Sighhhh... Giving up for now!
Thanks to everyone for trying to assist.

I had a similar issue with my Skyrocket, although I was able to root it with Saferoot.
I have a MacBook on Yosemite and a Windows Vista PC (don't hurt me). Windows fails to cooperate with any drivers I install on it if they install at all. All I can get is the file transfer. JOdin3 can recognize it, but gives me libusb error -12. It just won't work. Odin..... Nope.
On my Mac, I have access to ADB and file manager. But there are no root tools for Mac.
On the S3 itself, I tried Towelroot v2, Saferoot, Framaroot, Kingo, ActiveRoot, MotoChop, that odd Chinese one, and more. They all failed.
I'd be more than happy on rooted stock, I was rocking that on my Skyrocket (pun intended) for a good 2-3 months, though I would prefer a custom ROM.
Sorry if this has been asked before.
Edit: I managed to get the drivers working by myself after reading about the registry issues.
I had an issue with a partial installation that the installer (or the computer) didn't like. Here is how I fixed it:
Manually reinstalling the Samsung USB Drivers (Windows)
First, open the file explorer (Pro tip: Hold the start button and press E) and in the address bar, type C:\Program Files\SAMSUNG\USB Drivers. If you see Uninstall.exe, right-click it, Run as Administrator, let it uninstall, and you can skip 7-10. Lucky. Otherwise...
Download 7-Zip and install it. I suggest 15.xx beta, the 9.xx is old.
Download the official universal USB driver from Samsung. Don't open it yet.
Now, find the driver ZIP file. This is most likely going to be in your Downloads folder as SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.zip
Right-click on it and find 7-Zip > Open Archive...
Drag the file to your Downloads folder, and close 7-Zip.
Right-click on the EXE file with the similar name as the ZIP and do 7-Zip > Open archive...
Hit Extract and it should extract to a directory with the same name.
Open that folder and find the Uninstall.exe and Uninstall_1.exe.
If you're on a 64-bit installation, right click Uninstall_1.exe and select Run as Administrator. Otherwise, choose Uninstall.exe. (Google the way to find it if you are not sure).
Let it uninstall.
Now go back to your Downloads folder and right-click SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe and Run as Administrator. This installation seems to take a very long time for some reason, don't panic.
Once that is done, you (hopefully) have drivers now! Plug in your phone and you should see "Installing driver software..." and it works!

You need to be in download mode on the phone, connect it to vista machine, launch Odin, flash twrp from Odin, boot into twrp, flash supersu from twrp, and you will have a rooted stock rom.

No, I can't get Odin to recognize my S3 (or my Skyrocket) in download mode. I tried.
Thanks, though.

I get nothing. It doesn't see it.
Drivers are not working right or something. I installed Samsung drivers but, even still, each time I plug in my phone it asks to install drivers.

Tried different USB cables and USB ports? Doesn't even show up as a device in OS X?

Yes, yes.
OS X has ADB access and file access, but JOdin3 won't recognize the thing, and when I start it I get a message saying that heimdall-mac.dmg has no mountable filesystems or something.

What about running win7 in VMware? Or getting access to a win7 machine to try it out?

Can't afford a Win7 disk. But I may be able to try a friend's computer.

I ran into the same issue last night trying to root mine.
Win 7 would not install the correct drivers for my S3, I installed kies 3 just for the heck of it, and after that it picked up the correct driver for the S3. After that Odin picked it up right away after plugging it back in and I was able to flash TWRP on it. I installed Kies 1 first. Then Kies 3.
Give it a try, see if it works for you, I spent all day yesterday trying to get TWRP on it.
Good Luck!
Rooting I747m
I know it's answered, but here we go.
1. Flash TWRP.
2. Flash CF Auto-Root.
3. Flash TWRP again.
Done.
The i747m can be rooted by:
1) flashing cfautoroot without TWRP;
2) flashing TWRP, flashing supersu from TWRP; or
3) flashing TWRP, flashing custom rooted ROM from TWRP.

Updating within the Nexus Tablet?

So I have installed previously lollipop when first came out manually by flashing it to my device, but ever since that whenever I get a OTA notification about my device having an update available and I try to install it that way I get an error while it tries to install. I now always have to flash the update through my computer. Is there anyway to restore my tablet back to it installing updates on it's own? I have factory reset it and flashed the stock recovery as well, but nothing has worked. Thanks in advance.

Did you flash "recovery.img" only or the entire stock image?
Did you root it or modify anything on the "system" partition?

I have flashed the entire stock image. As of right now I am on 6.0.1
I have had the device rooted before, but as of right now when I flashed 6.0.1 it is all stock.

In fastboot mode, what is in "PRODUCT NAME", "VARIANT" and "BOOTLOADER VERSION"?
Which exact image was flashed?
Try this:
run: adb logcat -v time > log.txt
go to updates and try to start it
when you see the error, end adb log with ctrl-c
zip up "log.txt" and upload it somewhere
share the link

I'll try the second part once I get an update. It's a bit confusing, but hope I can get it right. I'm not super tech savy lol.

OK here. Do you use TWRP? If so, have you mounted as read-write the system partition on the latest OS?
I have used TWRP, but right now it's on the stock recovery I flashed that came with the image zip.
I believe so. I left it everything on default so if that's how it's set then yes.

It's saved in the folder with your ADB app. More info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1726238

Nice log :good:
A few more questions:
did/do you use encryption?
did you modify the "/persist" partition?
do you get the OTA error on a new, clean system without user apps?
did you disable any system services?
As for the last question, I see in your log:
Code:
Could not instantiate LocationManager. Google Play Services might be missing.
OTA will not work if some system apps/services are disabled.

Thanks, and for
1. No I don't think so
2. No, I have not. Not to my knowledge. When I rooted my device it was with the Nexus Root toolkit.
3. Um no I have a few apps I downloaded.
4. No I did not, I went on apps and reset it. Tried to install the update and I got another error. If I disabled a service I wouldn't know how to bring it back.

What's the error message(s)? Does it reboot automatically after you acknowledge it?

So it starts off like it would install the update. It goes into the bootloader and shows the Android logo with a progress bar then about halfway it stops it just states error and shows an Android with a red "x" on it.

Try the Nexus Root Toolkit by Wugfresh its always worked for me after messing things up on my Nexus devices.

We need to check what's happening halfway there.
download twrp-3.0.2-0-flo.img to your folder with fastboot and adb apps
boot the Nexus in fastboot mode (when off press power+vol.dn), connect it to your PC
PC run: fastboot boot twrp-3.0.2-0-flo.img
when TWRP is up, run: adb shell cat /cache/recovery/* > rec.log
find rec.log in your adb folder, zip and attach it to your next post
Note, TWRP is not flashed but only temporarily loaded. You have to do it immediately after the error.
