[Q] good roms? - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

i would like a rom to install in my phone tha allows LOCKED bootloader, i can unlock it but i would rather not, ive tryed slimbean but i get black screen (wont turn on) and i dont want cm or pacman ones just one that will suit my phone and make it nice and cool... atm i have unlocked bootloader and to root i had to go to .211 kernel (from doomlord, cheers for that) i dont mind redoing it again but i would like to have something cool and also can someone tell me, whats the point in rooting (other then roms) thanks!

Well other than ROMs, the best part is you get access to your phone's every restricted part. You can delete apps from /system to free up space. You can use different kernels, you can even make kernels and use them. You can also apply many mods, etc which is not possible without rooting. You can tinker with your phone as much as you like. You can do build.prop tweaking, you can install and execute scripts and much more. Rooting is a whole new world, sir IMHO, after rooting only one can feel that he completely owns the phone
Cheers,
AJ

Xperia play roms?

Hello can any one please explane why there still arent any modified rooms? is it realy hard to create it for xperia play?
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
There are no custom ROMs because:
1) there is still no universal way to back up restore the relevant phone data (Trim Area, or TA)
2) there is still no custom recovery
3) there is no way to unlock the bootloaders for people with SIM-locked phones
4) there is only a certain number of people with interest and means to work on the three prior points.
You should be patient and support the people who are working on it. They'll do great things if we let them work
Yea I am eagerly waiting for some tweeked custom "ROOMS" lol

Yes but the ability to backup is there and available sadly at a cost though, for now at least!

1) It's possible for now with Omnius - it officially supports TA backup/restore for MSM7x30 platform.
2) It's almost there. Check out Arc section - it works but with graphical glitches, but no files to flash yet...
3) I'm working with Androxyde on TA backup/restore tool in hex format. It'll make my progress on this much easier.
or better yet we should be trying to get xrecovery to work on our phones, doomlord and Z are trying to get it to work on the arc(they might have it working by now) once that can be implemented then we'll be able to do custom roms no problem
1) I cant wait
2) I cant wait
3) I cant wait
4) I guess i will wait, good things come to those that wait
I'm 90% happy with the stock play rom, but we all know the xda developers unlock more than 110% of a mobile devices potential
hi, i'd like to free some space of my internal storage so i can install more apps, is this could be done by just rooting my device? i've seen some Apk' rooting program, but still can handle mine, some article say GingerBread v2.3.4 can not be rooted :-S , is that right?

this thread should not be in development. there are plenty of custom roms, but i guess you have to have an IQ of at least 10 to realize that.
to name a few:
Darkforest
GintoJellyBean
CyanogenMod7.2, 9, and 10
IT rom
GlazedICS
xDarkICS
MIUI
TrueAncestor

Some roms are prerooted, but you may need an unlocked bootloader for some(Just read rom thread), and another way to root is "fastbooting a kernel" like Doomkernel. Just search around. You will find it in Play "Android Development"

[Q] Custom ROM Development

Hey all! I've been real interested in developing my own variation of the Android Rom. Such as custom themes, my own boot screen and things of that manner. I do a little Java and have the SDK but I want to know how hard it is to compile your own working Rom. My biggest hurdle at this point is I have a an Xperia Play R800x (CDMA, Locked Boot-loader) and from what I see most custom Roms out there need Unlocked Boot-loaders to run properly or a lot of work to work with CDMA.
I've searched around the forums but couldn't find to much of making your own Rom variant.
Thanks for any future help!
I don't have any dev advice per se. However the one piece of advice I will pass along is this: make sure that what you post is your own work! If you do borrow anything from someone else, please get their permission first, and give credit where credit is due.
We have had a run of "devs" lately that take someone else's work, make extremely minor changes and then post it up as their own work.

The only thing I plan to borrow is the method of how some devs have CDMA working. Other than that, I will use the Vanilla AOSP Roms, most likely just 2.3.3 (Which I guess in theory I could modify my current Rom on my phone) or 2.3.4 (If Verizon chooses to update any year from now). I would love love to mod out Ice Cream Sandwich for Xperia but that is not feasible at this point.
The theme I really want why I'm off topic for a second is the HTC Rhyme "Sense" theme I believe it's called. It's truly nifty in terms of how it works.
You won't necessarily need an unlocked bootloader, that's only necessary if you're using a ROM that needs a new kernel, such as CyanogenMod or a different firmware level, such as from 2.3.3 to 4.0. That being said, you may want to check out Cola or GBTweaked or IT-Rom for inspiration. They're all available for the Locked R800x phones, and I'm pretty sure they all have tweaks thrown around in there that have nothing to do with needing an unlocked bootloader. I say "pretty sure," because I've only used Cola, then got my bootloader unlocked.
If you do make a rom for locked bootloaders, I believe it will need to be released in the form of a nandroid backup, in which case before you do that backup, you'll need to remove all of your personal information from it.

I think I understand this, so say I want to use 4.0.3 (Latest stable ICS build) on Xperia via Vanilla Android as my base Rom, I'd have to write a new kernal and that would need a unlocked boot-loader? Makes sense. I guess for now I will wait until 2.3.4 pushes since it will be a different setup on my phone before developing. Plus 2.3.4 has all the bug fixes.
Hope you didn't take offense at my input. And I hope you do dev something up for the locked boot loader set. I was one myself not so long ago. They certainly can use some ROM lovin'!

No offense at all. Believe me, I come from the emulation of online games community and see first hand how people steal others work and call it theirs. World of Warcraft, Aion, Rift etc all have stolen code and lost projects. EQ 1 & 2 are the only projects that have a single core / team.
I believe in Open Source and that's why I love Android. I just wish the big companies would see that too instead of not letting us do what Android was meant to do, mod to our hearts content. (In my opinion at least)
There are many ways to create a rom, if you want to create a CDMA rom, why not use your own stock rom as a base? You can dump your /system/ partition, make whatever changes you see fit, then pop it in an update .zip. As you update your rom, you will learn from experience and other members how to create better roms, how to decompile/recompile .apk's, compiling kernels. Ect

[Q] A bit of help :D

Hi guys
Well, I'm buying a new Galaxy Note 8.0 next week or the other, and after seeing such as root and recovery, it seemed pretty easy to root and install TWRP with the toolkit
But after doing anything I thought it would be useful if some of you can answer me some questions
Well, first of all I'm not a noob do I know what am I doing ^-^
First of all, when I was seeing the unofficial CM10.2 thread, I saw that I have to unlock the boot loader to flash it, but I couldn't find any thread of how to do it so, if you could tell me
And finally, I wanted to know what's the best ROM for gaming... I will use a lot the tablet with my sister, so I need a ROM that can handle very well for playing heavy games like MC4 or dead trigger, and installing A LOT of stupid apps (sister). So I would like a ROM that has the possibility to OC
Hope you read everything don't be a ***** jajajaja
Cheers
use chainfires rooting method, and you can flash any rom you want; no bootloader unlock needed, for the 5110; if you get a different model, then I cant speak to it..

I'm new here and can only imagine how many time seniors seen that sentence... But I've got huge problems with basic stuff.
For instance:
I've found this lockscreen and don't understand how to install it - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2148339
Tried using this method:

Doesn't work
I'm on a rooted LT18i stock ICS.
I'd really appreciate some help.
Cheers

havent you considered flashing a custom ROM ? it's easy and extends the performance of your device as well as it gives the device a nicer look

As far as I read I need to sim unlock it with pin test I think. So as for now I can't do nothing... Unless U know other way around it

[Q] Problems with Stock ROM, and recommendations for a non-android User.

Hello Everyone!
First of all I want to say that this is not directly help for me, but for my girlfriend. I dont know you guys, but she is tired of her stock ROM since it freezes a lot of times, and yes, I have checked it, I tried updating, hardreset...etc and after a week the phone gets a lot of performance issues.
So my question is, I would like a modified ROM from the official last update if it exist, I mean that everything is working on the phone and it is of course faster than stock phone. This is not a questions "which is the best" nope, I just want to hear your reccommendations because I am not a user of this phone and I dont know very well all different versions etc. Furthermore I have read a lot on the forums, and i have a small idea what could work for this case.
for example:
Since this is a mod from a Stock ROm, It shoudnt has any problem, Isnt it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2400633
My big concern is that Im not the user of the phone, and you now what happens with "users" if something is not working...

You can use WinDroid 2.0 toolkit. If u want good ROM... Ignorance is really good but try something from higher shelf HTCdroid. It's the best ROM for HTC One V! The smoothest and the fastest. But a lot of ROMs has one issue. Data usage doesn't work... Why? I don't know I'm working on it but here is one ROM what haven't got it it's MoDaCo.one Ir2 here it works. But it's outdated so use newer ROM like Ignorance!
Cheers and good experiences with unlocked HOV

Im starting the process, man this stock ROM gives problems even while sync contacts
If you are tired of sense shpongle is the way to go. If you are okay with it, pick htcdroid. Both best in its classes. Htcdroid seems bugless or only minor bugs visible while shpongle got camera dead - you need 3rd party apk.
