U are using a virgin Xperia Z1. U never unlock bootloader before. U never root before.
LOCKED BOOTLOADER
BACKUP any critical data to microSD
Copy this rom zip package to microSD
Flash stock Sony's firmware (FTF) 14.1.G.1.534 using flashtools if u r not currently running on this fw version
Root using any available method (VROOT recommended)
Install THIS recovery (TWRP) | check for superuser prompt (if any) [vroot is using its own supersuser app]
Reboot in recovery, do factory reset & install rom until finish
Skip (x) steps if u already running same base firmware with latest monxDIFIED base rom. Else, proceed.
(x) Turn off device. (Hold power button + vol up until vibrates 3 times) [or use recovery turn off device option, if any]
(x) Flash latest Sony's firmware (FTF) matching current latest monxDIFIED base rom using latest flashtools. UNCKECK all WIPE options and CHECK only SYSTEM & TA in EXCLUDE options.
(x) Disconnect USB cable & turn on phone. Done.

Is that confirmed as working? the Z1 isn't even listed on sonys unlock bootloader website and it even notes at the top

I know that it can be unlocked even though its not on the list but you'd think that there's a reason Sony have given notice about the camera and unlocking the Z1.

i have rooted, backed up TA, unlocked bootloader, restored TA and confirm working
@pohsze is correct.
just follow the steps & hv a full functional rom. mega link will be ready in less 2hrs.

1) root with vroot or kingo root, backup TA partition, unlocked bootloader, install custom rom, restore TA

The phone will have to be connected to a pc to restore the TA, right? I've backed up the TA using the backup tool but not sure if it can be restored directly on the phone or if I need to restore it via the tool on the pc. Thx.

1: Load these files:
a) galaxy-efsbackup.zip / Mirror
b) cm7-galaxys-initial-kernel.tar / Mirror
d) speedmod-kernel-k13c-500hz.tar / Mirror

2: Copy all files except:
speedmod-kernel-k13c-500hz.tar & cm7-galaxys-initial-kernel.tar
3: Flash speedmod-kernel-k13c-500hz.tar via Odin, wait for reboot and after that shutdown
4: Start via 3-button-combo in recovery mode and install galaxys-efsbackup.zip
5: Pull out battery and in again, start via 3-button-combo via download mode and flash cm7-galaxys-initial-kernel.tar via Odin BUT DON'T check repartition and auto reboot
6: Pull out the USB cable and start (in download mode) with 3-button-combo in recovery mode (waiting until samsung logo appears)
7: Choose "mounts & storage" and format system, data, cache
8: Flash MIUI MCGv5.3.

As of 28th March: MIUI has gone official, thanks to plane501 AND zygame (for being supportive in this matter as well) for letting everyone know! It seems they have used our port as a base It is a LOT better and more refined, more fixes, and the phone actually reboots once you apply a theme The official is made with CM sources and that MIUI-Dev team have made it. Kenia has worked very hard on RC2 and it is now AVAILABLE. We don't just deodex the ROM etc, it's customized and has a custom Kernel.
UPDATE 24/03/11:
Important Announcement:
I have spoken to Kenia and will speak to jblanc, but as the official MIUI Port has started by MIUI.cn, we will only release Beta 6 as a final stage.
This does not mean we will stop development, but there will not be any further quick updates as most of the issues have been ironed out EXCEPT External SD, which we are hoping the official team can fix.
We'll be keeping track of the official port and post it here etc, customizing it for XDA'ers, but for now it seems unreasonable for us to do something that the official devs are working on.
This is not finalized yet, but i thought i'd let you all know anyway. We are also very busy and cannot keep track all the time, but we will keep things going and not ditch this like the previous devs . We've all come a long way with this project and it hasn't even been that long! Some astonishing work by my team mates.
As of 24th March: It seems like it is our port on MIUI.cn, but i need to get in contact with them. If anyone can help in this matter please do let me know. Also, we will continue with updates but not so frequently, we have day jobs too . Basically whenever MIUI.cn release a new version, it'll be implemented, for sure. Please PM me if you can help in any way with this project, it can be anything, from GFX to coding.
As of 25th March: New MIUI Update 1.3.25 was released today, and has been successfully ported Internal SD card is now working once more (thanks to Segnaro!) Beta 7 is on it's way!

If there is not external_sd folder, MAKE ONE, then reboot.

2.4 High Battery Drain / High Android OS/System Usage / Phone never suspending (i.e. always "awake")
1. After flashing ROM, wipe battery info from CWM Recovery, boot phone then reboot.
2. Type *#*#4636#*#* on phone dial pad, select phone information, then scroll down to selection box, change set preferred network type to WCDMA only. Switch phone to airplane mode, then switch airplane off. (WARNING! THIS MAY CAUSE PROBLEMS WITH DATA CONNECTION! - REPEAT STEP - BUT INSTEAD REVERT BACK TO GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) IF YOU ENCOUNTER PROBLEMS)
3. Set WiFi sleep policy to NEVER (Samsung 2.3.3 WiFi driver bug)
(Settings -->System-->Wi-Fi Settings-->Advanced-->Wi-Fi Sleep Policy)
4. Turn off WiFi/Data when not in use
5. Do not use any AUTOMATED task killers (Manually close the apps - Use inbuilt MIUI App Killer; hold home key)
6. Turn "Auto-Sync" off - Settings > Personal > Accounts & Sync Settings > Untick "Auto-sync"
7. Turn off automated Google Backup - Settings > Personal > Backup Data & Settings > Untick "Backup my data"

2.5 Battery has stopped charging
Battery is known to stop charging when it gets too hot (CM7/MIUI stops charging with temperatures greater than about 50 degrees celcius where as Samsung ROMS stop charging with temperatures are greater than 60 degrees celcius. This is to protect the battery and phone from exploding. Turn off phone, allow it to cool down for 5 minutes then proceed to charge again.

FASTER/NEWER METHOD: Just flash Froyo Bootloaders - follow instructions provided in link. Then continue from "Installing CM7 Intial Kernel" in the Installation guide courtesy of rahulrulez.
ALTERNATIVELY: You must first downgrade the firmware to Froyo (which MUST include a Froyo Bootloader - check in zip via WinRar for boot.bin and sbl.bin) Gingerbread bootloaders WILL cause problems. It is recommended that you flash back to Froyo using GT-I9000_FROYO_FULL_PDA.tar and then follow instructions from 1st post or follow guide courtesy of rahulrulez.

You should probably ask Master(tm) or Jumaanface about that....
On a more serious note, anyone had any luck getting theme manager to apply themes yet? The Nexus S English translation pack goes over this fine and actually quite a few things seem functional
When home buttons,volume buttons and touchkey buttons will be corrected this rom can be for daily use.

Segnaro spotted that replacing CM7 libandroid_servers.so in system/lib gets keys working (at least on Vibrant). Also replacing CM7 camera.apk gets the camera running. And to get theme manager working, adb shell su and do "mkdir /data/system/theme1" and it works after applying themes and manually rebooting. Exciting stuff!!

I think that you have to install a CWM 'cuz I include a CWM for BL so is possible that it doesn't work properly for UB

Oh,thanks for your work.but i fell all the roms that based on ICS didnot have the better performance and battery life,and better experience.and i flashed CM10 ROM,it runs smooth and has a better battery life.Hope you can develope ROMs that based on CM10.sure ,it is just my suggestion.thanks again.

SETTING UP THE ROM
1. Setup Comodo antivirus. It will show Gallery lock as malware. Worry not, simply update the virus database. It is not a malware.
2. Turn on privacy manager and anti-theft within Comodo and set it accordingly.
3. Open Xposed install framework, but do not reboot. Check all modules in the modules section and then reboot.
4. In the lockscreen, slide to the right side and add Dashclock widget and configure accordingly.
7. Phone settings > Location access > GPS satellites > GPS EPO assistance (check)
8. Phone settings > Location access > GPS satellites > EPO settings > Auto download (check)
10. Look for Tinted status bar setting down in this post.
MANDATORY SOUND/ViPER4Android SETTINGS:
1. Phone settings > user profile > audio enhancer (uncheck)
2. Download my ViPER Presets and extract the folder ViPER4Android and place the folder in internal sd card.
3. Open Viper4android app and install the super audio quality driver and reboot.
4. Viper4android > menu > UI setting > Expert
5. Scroll to headset > menu > Viper settings > Load effect profile > (choose)

1. Backup your device data. (Even your internal SD card data.
2. Download romBUZZ v3.0 and extract the contents.
3. Run SP Tools as administrator and click on "Scatter-Loading" and navigate to the extracted folder and select "MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc.txt"
Click "Firmware -> Upgrade". Turn off your phone and connect it via usb cable and wait for the green circle after the downloading completes. (search youtube if you're uncomfortable).
5. Disconnect the phone and turn it on. Enjoy. Hit thanks here.

Insctruction
Before proceed backup all you important data like pictures, files to another device.. !
Make sure you follow all steps carefully with caution .. !
You need to be on oreo stock firmware if you are not unlocked or don't have TWRP follow this guide.
Code:
1- Flash your Firmware [B][COLOR="Red"](VERY IMPORTANT)[/COLOR][/B]
2- Flash TWRP, We need a recovery with [I]AROMA[/I] support, [B][URL="https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Y9OCwwpeqlokLsCgxwmrGRgC7aeJcE7r"]get it here[/URL][/B]
[U]Method 1[/U] : It's a flash-able zip via recovery, after you finish reboot to TWRP again
[U]Method 2[/U] : You can also extract the twrp.img and flash it using fastboot
3- Enter TWRP and Flash ROM zip
4- Reboot to System
IMPORTANT Make sure to make the new phone & messages app as default from Settings> Default app settings

I made a phone call. There was nothing on my screen
- Make sure to make the new phone app & messages app as default from Settings> Default app settings
TWRP freezed during ROM flashing
- Read the instructions from op you need to use TWRP with graphical flashing support you will find download link there
I am getting a bootloop
- If you can't boot your phone you're probably doing it wrong, follow op instructions exactly as listed above
- Wipe data (Factory Reset from TWRP: Wipe > Swipe to Factory Reset)

thanks for this, I can get 4.2 to install, but doing this rom 4.3 I get errors. If I pick my own kernel to install(4.3) then I just get stuck at the Sony logo... But if I pick to install the kernel supplied I get operation failed at the end and says Install failed

To avoid problems make sure to say YES to kernel and Choose a root method, this AROMA installer is still not perfect and there are some things that will to be fixed in next updates .. if still no luck try download and try again I made some changes to the installation script
Edit : You can save logs and upload it here that would be useful too

Should provide a slight peformance boost and battery life improvement over stock

If someone is having error upload your installation logs so I see what's wrong because for me the installation is fine.
Edit : I found what is causing the problem for XZP/XZ1 and a fix is on the way thanks to every one who shared their logs

Don't flash 4 permission
Flash kernel and fix after reboot flash magisk manually and the permisdion from magisk
It works for me like this
