[Q] PDF Books & Manuals...? - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Mods... Please feel free to relocate as you see fit if this is not in the proper location...!! Since this is a question, I was told to place it here... thank you..
I'm an IT guy and I'm looking for a good site to either acquire or purchase IT Reference guides or manuals. I wanted to put it out there to see where you guys get your PDF's from... something that I can have on the tablet for whenever I needed it for reference or just to read.
Thank you in advance...

...? I cant imagine that I'm the only technical person on a developers forum...

well there are "various" websites where you can get pdfs from, torrents etc. however if you plan to use them in kindle for example only books purchased FROM kindle (that say search) usually have a search feature, so while you can still import the pdfs in, its not very helpful in finding anything. epubs (dont work in the kindle app) seem to be a bit more advanced and have various capabilities including search but not many of the unsavory websites have them as widely available as pdfs.

Thank you for getting back to me...
No, I wont be using a Kindle... I'll be using the new tablet, but not just for personal use... also business use, reference, etc.. I'm really surprised that I havent seen much feedback on this topic, especially with all of the Tech folks on here.
I did manged however to look in the play store... but they are so damn expensive some of them.. wow...

i know. i was talking about the kindle app for android, not the kindle itself. if you have a pdf gathered from other sources you can email it to the kindle app and access it from anywhere which is helpful.

My bad...!! as you can see I'm not versed with Kindle apps on Android either...lol... but thanks anyway...

Rick I suggest you download the Adobe Reader app from the Play Store. In my opinion it is one of the best all purpose readers/editors for PDFs and it is free! I also like how it opens 100+ page PDF files on the Note 10.1 in just 3-5 seconds and you can scroll thru the pages pretty much as fast as you want with no noticeable slow down for page rendering.
Tap and hold on an area of the screen where there is text and you can copy, highlight, strikeout, or underline. Tap and hold on a blank area of the screen and you can leave a note, text, freehand, or even your signature!
Definitely worth the download!

Yes, I have the adobe reader already installed, my question was regarding acquiring PDF documents to read and edit with it.

Marketplace

I don't get it.
If I use the Android XDA app, the Marketplace is visible in General. Using a real browser however, it's not. A quick search for a link into the Marketplace rears a permissions error. And all of this without being registered. So what gives? Something I'm missing here?

what phone your using?
Oh, so it's now visible. After glancing through the rules/disclaimer it appears it'll become accessible after 8 posts for a noobjuice member. Clever.

You need more posts and/or a longer membership (I can't recall the details).
Guess the Tapatalk app needs fixing .

It's not the app...we've changed the permission on the Marketplace to not allow access to a user until he/she has made 8 posts. That 8 post level is also the same point at which you can post links. It's just an anti-spam measure. We found people were registering at XDA just to spam the site or the Marketplace. This helps.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
This is good to know. Long time lurker and finally signed up so I could post in the marketplace but alas!
Can someone link to the rules for gaining access to the Marketplace? I have 8 posts but still cannot see it. Tried logging out and back in but still nothing
For a while there I thought I needed to check my eye sight. Makes sense now.
Hard to achieve 8 post if you have nothing to say or to discuss or if everything is so well explained that you do not need answers
Maybe you could add a waiting time also. Lets say after 4 weeks you get to see the market, I highly doubt anyone would wait 4 weeks just to spam something.
It doesn't make sense that you can view the Marketplace before you sign up (and then have it dissapear after you are a member).
oh!! so thats why i couldnt c the marketplace
I am new here. it seem that this is an useful forum.
welcome to forums
Once you become an active/regula user all XDA features will be unlocked and you will be able to post in marketplace, this rule is to protect us from spammers/scammers
Ah I was wondering why I wasn't able to see that deal I saw anymore... guess I'm off to ask more questions.
I have been on the site reading for 6 months now trying not to poste but now i need to use the market so here is my 8th poste thanks.

Lol. Non-members can't see the marketplace anymore.
Trust me to say too much
As I said before:
Once you become regular/active members will see the benefit of having this
Meantime post and you´ll finally get access
Nice
Really smart security measure! I like it.

[Q] youtube Downloaders disappearing off market?

Anyone know of any working youtube downloaders? Seems the ones I have used in the past are all pulled from the market (Freedi was best but they went all Chinese or something ....Youtube Ripper is gone also..along with another one I used whos name escapes me atm)
Are there being deemed warez also and google is facing some legal issues with having them, or am I just blind?
If they are ok to post, could someone please shoot me an apk or a link somewhere to an actual working program?
Thanks in advance!!
Er should be titled TRIED, not tired...but hell I am tired come to think of it lol
I have no Android solution, but I use YouTubeDownloader on the PC & it works great.
Sorry man. I got nothing. I can help if you want a pornhub downloader though lol.
Yes, they do seem to all be disappearing with no rhyme or reason. I have TubeMate 0.9.10 on my phone, here's the APK:
http://db.tt/oM8POF6
And you should probably change your title to something like "YouTube apps disappearing from market?".
ack thank ya for the linky and LOL @ porn ...That actually cracked me up thank you\
Changed title
First off, I need that Porntube downloader please!
Secondly, all the Youtube downloaders are disappearing because Youtube wants you to come to THEIR site to see the videos, not download them and save them. Youtube makes money off advertising when you visit and click stuff, they don't make anything if you download the videos.
That said, I like Jet VD myself. It lets you pick the quality etc and works VERY well. Unfortunately, it was just removed from the market the other day. I'll post the .apk when I get home though, it's free anyway.
That or try googling it.
hey hey hey!

It would be great if you would post it, as I can't seem to find it anywhere.
JetVD is about the best I've seen.
Freedi is the best, I use it myself. It appears to be in Chinese, lol. But after you download it you can change the language and what country your in. Hope this helps.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Pm me your email and I'll be sure to send it over after work lol.

[APP] Netflix high def

sprintusa made a hi-def netflix app. i'm running the TBH root of gingerbread on my pro, and the regular netflix app worked fine, but it was pixely, and low-res. so for kicks, i tried the hi def app, and OMG, the difference! it's super clear, and text is readable, and i love it to pieces. you can get it on page 209 of the giant netflix app thread in hacking and dev.
Thanks!
Is there a version of this for Verizon? ):
This version works on the verizon pro.
Sent from my SCH-I800 using Tapatalk
just wanted to update that the redsea/bluesea versions also work on rooted pro running TBH gingerbread.

Is there a link I can gain access to as a noob? Every time I try to access the link in the thread I get this message: "New members (those with fewer than 10 posts) are not permitted to post to development-related forums".
I MORE than understand why the restriction is there, but I don't want to post anything, I just want to access the link to the .apk.
I could go around and post 10 random posts elsewhere in the forums to meet the requirement, but I would absolutely HATE to do that since I don't have any legitimate questions and don't want to add unnecessary posts to the forums (I have actually been able to answer every question I've ever had by reading previous posts).
I guess if worse comes to worse, I could just go to some previous posts that have been helpful to me and post some thank-yous.
Anyway, any help is much appreciated!!
I'm stuck in the same boat as you are Wolfrazor.

XDA Forums Site - Video Adverts

Hi There!
I am not sure if this the right area, but I am writing to find out how I can get rid of the video ads that have start popping up over the last few weeks/months.
They are incredibly intrusive and even though the topics are benign (Soap advertisements) it's often embarrasing if I am on the phone with a client to have them start randomly and loudly.
I do understand that on a site provided for free adverts are a reality, I would just ask the choice of video adverts be reviewed.
Is there a paid subscription that I can use to avoid them or a way to just block those ads (I understand an Ad Blocker would not be fair).
Thanks.
Next time you see one, can you please take a screenshot of it and send it via PM to "svetius". He looks after all the ads and stuff. We don't deliberately put these ads on the forum, as we know how annoying they can be
Hi, any news on this? Lately I've been getting strange popups (or rather, redirections) when loading XDA-Dev (and only on XDA-Dev) on my Galaxy Nexus - almost always NSFW.
I'll PM a screenshot next time it happens (it's only once it a blue moon)...

Hmm there should definitely not be any of these. Do you have any details of the advert? We need to try and be sure it is coming from xda, as it could be an app or another tab...
But if you know details of it we can have a look at this. PM anything to svetius
It was just some porn advert or other. No other tabs were open, and no porn apps or anything similar is installed...
It only happens when I open an XDA link directly from GMail (i.e. topic reply notifications)...
I'll make sure to take a screenshot next time.
Starting to think it might be a Germany thing. What ISP is your WiFi connected to? I'm on 1&1...

T Mobile Visual Voicemail

Can Someone please provide a link to the T mobile Visual Voicemail apk to install, The one in the market has Ads. I am looking for the previous version to the November 7th Release. The one without the ads.

I strongly disagree.
What if you don't want google converting your voicemails to text and analyzing your messages (along with keeping track of what you search for, who you call, who (and what) you email, where you go, and what you buy)???
I'm sorry, but an app that lets you simply push a button and play a message without having to listen to audio prompts and remember was that 7 or 9 to save... This Visual Voicemail is simple and efficient and a thousand times less stressful than trying to use Page Plus Cellular voicemail where they seem to randomly choose whether you have to listen to old messages before you can hear the new ones (so frustrating).
Until there is a law passed making me the sole owner of data about ME which lets ME decide how and when companies can use data about me, I don't want to provide more than nesc. to companies like google.

I spent five minutes looking through the search resuts after clicking your link and did NOT find the .apk for the most recent version before that update. Now I have to see, if there is some way I can undo the "thanks" I pressed for you when I stupidly clicked thanks before checking the link you posted since I assumed you were being helpful and linking to the THREAD. Ugh, can't undo thanks.
I don't know really know where to start to respond to this, so here it goes
1) If you do not want Google to convert your voicemails to text, disable that.
If you want to disable voicemail transcriptions, follow these steps:
1.Click the gear icon at the top-right of any Google Voice page and click Voice settings.
2.Deselect the 'Transcribe Voicemails' option in the Voicemail tab.
3.Click Save Changes.
2) I'm sorry, but an app that lets you simply push a button and play a message without having to listen to audio prompts and remember was that 7 or 9 to save...
Google voice does this very well.
3) Until there is a law passed making me the sole owner of data about ME which lets ME decide how and when companies can use data about me.
Why in the world would we need a law for this!?!?! Just don't give your information out on the internet, it IS yours, you can decide who gets it.
