Personal preference; but just remember... scratch resistant doesn't mean scratch proof. I use Zagg Invisible shield protectors; it's definitely not the same as going fully naked, but I'd rather have that little, thin, barely noticable piece of plastic over that beautiful screen and remove any hope of scratching it than to pull it out of my pocket and see that fateful 3mm scratch right in the center of the screen.

Depends on you use it. The scratching doesn't happen when you use it. It happens in your pocket and laying around.
I've never used screen protectors. But I also keep my phone in my front pockey BY ITSELF all the time. Never in my pocket with my keys or anything like that.

You know, Skipjacks, they say the Gorilla Glass screens don't scratch from keys or cigarette lighters, or whatever; it's more than likely going to come from dust or little pieces of dirt/sand/grit in your pocket lint.

yes get a screen protector. A case is your choice but a screen protector is a must.
The screen will scratch very easily ... with anything in your pocket including keys...
The thing is, if you keep it without a screen protector your gonna see a tiny lil scratch ...and then a few days later you will see another... and then before you know it your screen is gonna be filled with them.
So yeah get a screen protector.

Get a tempered glass. Feels like the screen is naked.

In teh 2 and a half years I've had a smart phone Iv'e seen no scratches from keeping it in my pocket.

It don't hurt to have one ;] Spigen makes some great thin tempered glass ones which I would recommend.

The screens on these phones don't scratch. Google "gorilla glass drag test" and see for yourself. Screen protectors are a waste as they scratch very easily. Even the so called tempered or hardened protectors are no where near as scratch resistant as the screen itself. I've broken my screen twice but have never managed a single scratch.

Every electronic device i have ever owned (even my Moto Razer, the old flip one..) had a screen protector. I only buy the cheap ones on ebay, 6 for like a dollar 99 or something sweet like that. Totally worth it.

When I first got my s4, I used a screen protector. I just recently took it off, about 2 months ago and I couldn't be happier, no scratches yet..

I had my phone naked for the first 2 months I owned it, then started noticing tiny scratches when I looked at the display in the sunlight.
I went and bought a Spigen Glas.t Tempered Glass Screen Protector and Spigen Neo-Hybrid case, but as said above; not necessary but is preffered.

That's my same setup. I bought the NeoHybrid case to protect the back and sides, and the Glas.t nano (.15mm) slim protector. It's as thick as a regular plastic protector that you can get for a few bucks anywhere, but is a smooth glass that feels like a naked screen and would give good protection from shattering. The idea is on a fall or anything, the screen protector will shatter and protect the actual screen like an airbag. Also doesn't look like it smudges as much as the actual screen. I'm loving it so far. :good:

Try this one "GEARMAXX Screen Protector" which be available in eBay.
Good quality with well customer service and easy application. Best protectors money can buy.

I'm using the Extreme Guard full body skin. Loving it so far. There is no impact on screen functionality / clarity what-so-ever. In fact you can't even tell its on there ( except on the back, the textured battery door doesn't do well with skins. I put it on anyway though just for protection)
I'm using that plus a generic tpu s style black case. The buttons are a little harder to press but manageable. I've dropped it multiple times and no dings or dents Also, this tpu case creates a bit of a lip around the screen so if its dropped on a flat surface, the screen wont touch the ground!
Here is the tpu case :

iPhone screen never got scratched after 2 years of usage.
I ordered a trident aegis case and it came with a free screen protector but it was crinkled in half in the box, looked like UPS actually caused the damage...the case is nice though!

yeah i have a "anti smudge" screen protector, but it has the rainbow effect sometimes, and it reduces the nice glossy appearance of my phone...and I'm one of those people who can't stand putting anything on my phone haha. any suggestions for good quality screen protectors that aren't too expensive?

While it may not be gorilla glass, it's still pretty resillient. As far as screen protectors go, if you usually keep your phone near keys, coins, etc then yes buy one. If not then you should be ok. I used to use screen protectors on all my devices but I stopped believing in them because I usually take good care of my devices either eay and the screen protectors took away the beauty from the device.
It really is just a matter of personal opinion.

So I took off my ghost armor on the sgs2 and tried the ultra crystal, in my opinion it's the best screen protector I have ever used, and I've tried a lot! If it wasn't for the cut out for the ffc you wouldn't be able to see it. I found out the same thing, only after putting the phone in my pocket with my keys. The screen with scratch so I highly recommend that you put on a screen protector
I'm glad this thread hasn't gone retarded with a bunch of assumptions and stuff.
Gorilla glass is just a name. other tempered/reinforced glass can be designed the same way or even better but is not called "gorilla glass".
Like others have mentioned, the glass is pretty sturdy and can protect it from scratches from most day to day objects and items that you use. However, sand in your pocket or on the table can scratch the **** out of the glass because it is compiled by a lot of different minerals.. shoot there might be even diamond in it.
I'm sure most active users on XDA take care of our devices and will be annoyed by the smallest scratches on the screen, so I would recommend a screen protector. It definitely helps prevent scratches and add an extra amount of "cushion" from small drops to prevent shattering your screen.
BTW I was fortunate enough to buy inexpensive screen protectors (like 5 for $4) on amazon and they turned out to be like the SGP ones. They were actually some of the best screen protectors I ever used, it felt identical to the glass. Just a thought if you decide to go the cheap route that there are some good and inexpensive generic ones.

Is it nessessory to get a screen protector for SGS3

Is it nessessory for me to get a screen protector for my new SGS3?
I heavily rely on the sensitive feel on the screen, and i just don't want to sacrifice its original beauty. i heard the screen on galaxy s3 use gorilla glass, need no protector any more, but i still worry to see scratches.
How about u guys? will u buy a screen protector?
I have a zagg screen cover (regular, not full body) but didn't care for it too much. It was put on perfectly (or as perfect as it could get) and I felt like it did dull the screen colors down a bit
I recently took it off when my Diztronic case came in and now just carry a micro fiber cloth with me. If the phone goes in my pocket I can slid that right over the screen
So I'd say no screen protector. If you have an extra micro fiber cloth around I would just use that

If you don't get one, you will be Nesses-Sorry (Title spelling joke. Oh, I am so original)
In all seriousness, no, it's not. The glass is pretty tough, it may get a few little scratches, maybe one or 2 big ones over the life of the phone. BUT if you're OCD about keeping the glass pristine, you want one, because gorilla glass is not invincible.
I got one for the future resale value bonus of "No Scratches", and as long as you get a smooth dry application screen protector, you won't notice a degradation of the feel of the surface of the phone.

Though everyone has an opinion I think that its a must. Don't be fooled by Gorilla Glass it is not scratch proof. I baby my electronics and had never scratched a screen on any device I had owned. Then I look at my Galaxy Note and there are 2 scratches from NO-WHERE. Just poof no drop no bump...
So to be cautious I will always have one now.
I had a package of cheap screen protectors from 2007.. probably not even made for touch phones! But they fit so we installed them. The touchscreen works great and the screen looks fine. I can hardly tell it's there.
I know it'd drive me crazy if I got a scratch on my phone and had to look at for the next 2 years I'd definitely recommend buying a screen protector! I'm sure anything being sold today is better than what we've got installed So hopefully you won't even notice it and can protect your screen
I ALWAYS get one. If it makes it feel cheap, you probably got a cheap and/or crappy screen protector.
I like Martin Fields and have used Seidio ones as well. ZAGG (I think it is) you can get a Best Buy and other places SUCK. They have a sticky or rather rubber feel to them so your fingers don't glide smoothly and probably are what give people the "cheap" feel. The first two I mentioned feel identical to the glass. You won't even know they're there. I get a new phone once a year and never had more than a scratch or two on the protector only. Peel it off ... brand new phone still.
I figure it also helps against breakage since there is an extra layer of protection reinforcing the structure. Kind of like laminated glass. A friend got a giant gouge in his RAZR. GIANT wound to the screen protector, but it didn't make it through to the glass surface. No cracks or even scratches ... to the glass.
I stopped investing in them. My iPhone 4 was without for a year and no scratches. The protectors had scratches but they aren't as durable as the screen

What the hell are those napkins made of? Dear lord.
Definitely get a screen protector. Get a dry install screen protector that is clear and I guarantee that you won't notice it. I recommend SGP Nano Clear for this phone. It is very easy to install and works very well with cases. The only drawback is that it leaves about 1 mm or so uncovered around the edges, but fortunately this will be covered by most cases.
If you are wondering about getting a screen protector, then get one. You may regret it otherwise.

Yes get a screen protector. I highly recommend that you get one. Gorilla glass 2 is not scratch proof. I already scratched my screen and my HTC evo 4g lte screen. :-(
Why would you not get a screen protector for this phone? This is not a cheap phone so do yourself a favor and get you a good screen protector. You touch the screen whenever you use the phone and everytime you touch it, you risk scratching it due to dirt being on your hands. Protect your investment!
Normally I purchase wet application protectors from bestskinsever.com but wet application protectors do not play well with tpu cases for this phone.
I recommend the Reearth dry screen protector. You can find it on Amazon for 11.99 and it includes 2 protectors. It's an awesome protector and you won't even know it's on your phone.

[Q] regret taking off screen protector ?

I bought a galaxy nexus off of someone from craigs list. And it has a wet apply a screen protector on it, he said he had it on it since day 1 so there is no scratches on the screen. But there is a terrible orange peel affect on the screen protector now, and I really want to take the protector of but I was wondering if any of you ever took a screen protector off then regretted doing so. Also how many of you don't actually have a screen protector and its doing good against scratches? Thank you!

I can't stand the orange peel feeling..I would take it off and buy another one that doesn't have the peel effect. Your screen should be fine without one.
I used to have a screen protector, and took it off about one hour later. I hate the feeling of the screen protector, also I think it reduces the screen quality.
So far I have no scratches, I always have my phone in my pants with no protection whatsoever.

Are u sure? I had an htc amaze without a screen protector for 6 months, no scratches. This screen will be ablle to hold up too? Do u have a screen protector? And what I don't like about the regular plastic screen protectors that are dry install, are the fact that they pick up lint, fingers prints, debris, smudge, and oils from your fingers. Which really annoy me. The wet install one that I have on now doesn't at all. But it has horrible orange peel. I'm really indecisive on what to do :/

I have not used a screen protector in years. Did not have one on my N1, my NS, for G Nex. For each I have purchased a $5 neoprene sleeve on ebay. I at least put it in the sleeve, because I wear what most would consider tight fitting denim pants most of the time, thus my phone regularly comes in contact with keys, pens, etc. No issues thus far.
When in use I slid it out of the case, and if there is a good change I'll use it again soon, I keep it out and rest it on top of the sleeve on my desk. As an added bonus, everytime you slide the phone in and out of the sleeve it cleans the screen just a bit. Actually keeps the finger prints to acceptable level.
Thanks for all the feedback guys. I think I'm going to suxk it up and take the screen protector off, I guess Ill keep the tpu case on it and get a pouch.
I have a job where I'm around dust, debri and EVERYTHING all the time. Anyone have a decent vertical pouch they suggest?

Looks good, but I was hoping for something more that I could flip open and have the screen exposed. Because I'm constantly taking my phone in n out of my pocket so I would like the screen the accessible. Maybe a vertical style pouch
Or something like this, but I need it I have a clip or belt loop

I always use a screen protector
People who are really careful with their phone as most people on XDA probably are may be able to go without a screen protector, but it should never be considered safe, if you don't have a screen protector you can scratch the screen, period.
Also I don't want to have to baby my phone, I like to be able to throw it in my pocket, and not worry if my car keys are in that pocket or a credit card etc.
I can't stand looking at a scratched screen so I use and advise people to use a screen protector.
If you want proof that even gorilla glass breaks and scratches go to ebay and look at used phones, the majority of them that don't have the words this phone always had a screen protector on it in the description have at least minor scratches and scuffs on the screen and many are much worse.
If you really hate the orange peel feeling, go for a dry screen protector. They are harder to apply than a wet screen protector but they don't have that orange peel feeling. When i use a dry screen protector I normally buy a 5 or 6 back on ebay, because occasionally I'll junk a screen protector or two before getting one on to my satisfaction.
I admit though the curved screen of the gnex is difficult with dry protector, my first application didn't go that well I may have to try a tempered glass protector or a wet screen protector, at first the orange peel feeling may bother you but you adjust to it after awhile.

Hey, thanks for your input. I still haven't manned up and taken off the screen protector yet because I'm still scared I will get scratches on the screen. Like I stated before I work at a place where I am constantly around dust and debris and have things in my pocket so Im just keeping it on for now. I'm also thinking about getting a small carrying case that doesn't have any cut out or anything just something I could slip my phone in and toss in my pocket

Well,
You need to keep the screen protector mate.
Although our screens comes with a scratch resistant technology (not Gorilla Glass but close), the dust, specially a grain of sand will scratch our screen easily. It can witstand keys, credit cards but tiny things like sand will scratch it, for sure.
Like everyone said, the dry protectors doesn't affect screen quality.
Cheers!
Get any screen protector except anti-glare.
Those things suck.
And the ones I use are easy to apply. U just apply and done and work out air bubbles for 5 min.
Verizon Screen Protectors are the best IMO. So easy.

If I have helped you.... hit that sexy thanks button. ^_^

Are you using a screen protector?

Curious to see how many G3 owners are using a screen protector or planning to use a screen protector.
I stopped using one on my Nexus 4 and was very happy with it. Over 1 year of use without a screen protector and the screen was flawless. However, I've had my Nexus 5 for about 6 months now without a screen protector and my screen now has 2 deep scratches (you can feel them with your finger and see them in just about any lighting).
Because of my experience with the Nexus 5 screen I'm back to considering going the screen protector route again. However, I'm curious to see what others are thinking regarding the issue.
I should also mention that it is important to me that a screen protector works with a case. I already ordered a TPU case which I plan to use with the phone. Do those glass screen protectors typically work with TPU cases?
Yes and the Spigen nano tempered glass is by far my favorite one.

first off glass screen protectors do work with tpu cases. the only thing that can scratch your screen is sand metal won't touch it (see hardness rating) if you really dislike screen protectors try liquid solutions(ex. Crystalusion) or you could try tempered glass it feels as glass and it won't give bubbles if you hate that hope this post was helpful I added some links with product info
tempered glass applyment video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7h-QUxTLq0
edit sorry @Pilz I was in the zone typing I didn't notice you posted when I was typing sorry also great minds think alike (see tempered glass)

No problem, I have always enjoyed tempered glass. I have yet to have a case where it didn't fit. Since the Spigen nano glass is very thin and it has rounded bezels you won't notice it at all. It also fits almost with maybe < .5mm gap on the left and right side. I had an op with my F400 showing the fit with some cases.

It will fit and the QC case doesn't cover the edge of the phone, even if it did I don't see any issues. In any case here is the OP.

we are hijacking his question but I remember reading this case couldn't close with an plastik screen protector (the case wouldn't close) if you have answer send me message because the mods hate people hijacking treads
That's weird, I've used other similar ones on my note and old s3 without issuem maybe LG maybe the tolerances tighter on it. I agree let's get back on topic.

The poll should probably have 2 no's - one that says "but using a case" and one that says "and no case".
I personally dislike the look and extra bulk of cases as well as screen protectors.
No worries about hijacking guys. I'm trying to learn what I can about protective options for this phone anyway.
I gave up on screen protectors a while back but I do not want the G3's screen to end up with the same scratches my Nexus 5 did. I've never tried using a tempered glass screen protector but I've heard great things about them.
I think I'll follow your recommendation and order the Spigen Nano protector tomorrow. I love the idea of having a screen protector that is bubble free. The bubbles and raised edges are why I gave up on screen protectors previously. I imagine the tempered glass one will solve those issues.
EDIT: Is this the Spigen protector you were talking about? $30 seems steep. How long does it last?

Just ordered that Spigen Glass.tR Nano tempered glass protector. It's pricy and you only get one so I really hope I don't screw up the installation.
I may change my mind and get a glass protector. They're a lot thinner than they were last time I checked (years ago). The Joto one looks good spec wise. It's the thinnest I've seen at .2mm, assuming they didn't just round it down.

Edit: Actually the i-Blason is just as thin and half the price. It's only 8H compared to 9H with the Joto. Not sure if that difference really will matter. It also doesn't state that it's rounded.

if you manage align the screen protector you sould not worry just follow the step by step tutorial that is includded
Roger that!
Bumping this now that more people are receiving their phones. I got the Spigen glass protector installed. I like it a lot but I already know that if something happens to it such as the corners lifting or something, I know I'll feel the bare screen again and likely won't go with another screen protector.
I've never used a screen protector on any of my devices but I feel like I need to for this one. I ordered a flexible glass protector by iloome and some other cheap one to practice with.

Yes i do use screen protectors.
I ordered 10 screen protectors from eBay for €6,- (around $8,-)
Screen protectors will not protect your screen from cracks if you drop your phone on your screen.
But they prevent scratches like a boss.
You might find ones that protect your screen from cracks, but they will cost you a lot.
And they will add height and they might disturb the responsiveness from of your touchscreen.
The cheap ones will do just fine, they might take scratches more easily than the ones that cost $10.
But if you got a scratch on your screen protector you want to change it anyway (i am the type of person that gets irritated and annoyed by scratches on my beautiful screen).
So why spend a lot of money on something that you will change every few months anyway? You should not
Never used a screen protector, never had a screen get scratched. No plans to start.
I'll be using one from now. Phone took a fall from a foot off the ground. Landed screen down and shattered :crying: The screen on the G3 seems incredibly fragile. Ordered the Spigen GLAS.tR today hoping it may help prevent this on my replacement.

Screen protector likely wouldn't have helped.
