Galaxy Note 3 Active? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Hey guys I have gotten my N3 yet, will get it tomorrow but now the NOTE 3 Active is set to be unveiled next week. Im kind of nervous now if its going to be better or is it going to be a little bit washed down like the S4 Active and bulkier. One thing for sure its have the first flexible display, what do you guys think?

One S vs SIII

'sup folks.
This thread is dedicated to my lovely wife who just couldn't make up her mind between One S ("kinda looks nice"), Galaxy SIII ("oh nice screen"), and iPhone5 ("when is it coming out? my 3GS feels old"). And between all 3 of them, "can i unlock them?" (in Canada, phones are locked to their ISP, so if I buy it from, say, Rogers, I can't just pop another SIM card from, say, Bell.)
So what do u guys think?
Personally, I'm an Android guy through and through. Can't fix it? Find a ROM to restore it. Boot another ROM. Root it on day one. So iPhone is out of the question. But I tend to like the look of One S better than SIII. and i had good experience with HTC phones. and SIII costs $100 more.
But she's been using iPhone3GS, love the simplicity, has no idea what 'rooting' is and why its necessary no matter how many times I explained that it's necessary for TiBackup to work... But she plays around with my Nexus7 and loves to stream Korean drama and check Facebook with it. And last time we went to Costco she saw the SIII on display and goes "oh wow, that's a nice screen. does it work like ur Nexus? I kinda want it." So mainly for her, OneS is the cheaper phone, but SIII's screen looks amazing, and she'll only be using her phone for;
a. take photos
b. facebook
c. browse the latest grocery flyers and baby product review
d. stream korean dramas
e. whatsapp
What do you think she should pick up? Or she should just wait for the next iPhone in a month or two?
Any input?
Well Samsung did a great job with touchwiz out of the box. Sense 4 can be a little confusing for people coming to android. If she wants a simplistic phone go for the new iPhone, but the hardware will be IMO behind the s3. Get her an s3 she'll love it.

i agree with the above poster...
iphone if she's not into customizing since its really easy to use..but lame old design and UI
S3 overall good...
i got my wife the S3 and she loves it.. she likes reading Korean Comics and Korean Dramas and the big screen makes it good for those.. the camera is fast so she can take pics of our 8 month old baby ..
she just asked me yesterday ... "Hey is there a way to get rid of those stupid Rogers apps?" to her response i Grinned ; > so i will be rooting her phone tonight..
plus if ur korean like myself you gotta support the homeland ; >

Just FYI, you don't need to root to remove bloat.. You can just uninstall the updates to each app and "disable" them, essentially freezing them for good until you reenable them. They also disappear as icons when you do this, and background processes.

we're not korean but we love korean products! (from food to technologies to dramas)(ok, im not big on dramas, she is)
how's the build and everything? i read around and looks like HTC got a better/more solid build, regardless of smaller screen.
and battery life? I saw some poor review that One S lasts not even a day even on light use.....
No expandable memory
The biggest downer for me with the one X was there is no way to increase the memory on that thing.
Get her the iPhone. Chicks dig the iPhone.
Also, saves you time trying to teach her how to use things. Less confusing.
I personally would never let my mom or dad switch over to android -- too much learning involved. Get her the iPhone. You won't get stuck with returning it
S3 all the way baby. Screen size and widescreen ratio is reason enough for her to get the s3. Also it is quite pocketable. And its the fastest phone on the planet. Camera is top notch. Plus when she is ready to upgrade she can sell the s3 for a hefty price. S3 is atleast 200$ more than one s contest free. so you lose money technically if you go with one s

I am in the same boat pretty much and came here for a thread like this.
I am an android nut for a while now, i have an GNEX with JB installed and loving it. Girlfriend has always been an iphone user, loves getting cute cases and thats all she cares about.
The '7 comes out, it was 199 so i was like WTF i will get her one for couch browsing while i am using mine. Turns out she loves the '7 and can't stand her iphone anymore. Shes begging to get the sg3 now but i know its going to be a big learning curve.
I am probably going to get it for her tonight. Its nice to see an android phone finally starting to be a cross over device and pull in the iphone users.
well at least u know its an easy decision. my wife still on the fence between One S and S III
One S owners say Siii wins in terms of storage and removable battery, but everything else is "about the same". the screen is bigger and nicer, but it comes at the cost of heavier and bigger phone due to battery size.
the One S is smaller and has metal case, but she's not too crazy with the design. she knows S III is bigger but she loves the smooth curves. but it is bigger.

The One S isn't even the competitor of the S3 it's the One X, I know in NA there is really not much difference between the One S and the One X. But the One X is the flagship model which is what the S3 is so they are the comparable phones. Also you are not just getting a better screen with the S3 you are also getting 1gig more RAM and the ability to use expandible memory.

Hah. Nice. So the Galaxy S4 might be released as soon as Februrary 2013 with the following rumored features (from the article):
1) A 5" SAMOLED display which may or may not be the new flexible tech. (Getting into Note territory here...)
2) Will have a quad-core exynos or qualcomm cpu
3) The design may be different for each US carrier again (bummer)
And I loved this quote :
The S4 will see some external changes but retain its popular rectangular shape with rounded corner concept,’’ said an official from one of Samsung’s local partners.

Yep! But I think I'm holding out for the Note 3 in Jan 2014, which is the soonest I can upgrade anyway
(should be 1080p too)
hmmmmmmmm....... I'm waiting to see what HTC would come up... Some of their designs badly need a successor... say, the HTC Desire Z, it was the last phone they made with a keyboard.... and that was about 3 years ago already.... I'm quite a fan of phones with keyboards, so I'm also gonna be interested what Samsung would put out witha keyboard... Now that I'm on the samsung bandwagon, I'm quite inclined to get a samsung phone...
but yeah, nice to see the S4 is already under development... but I'm afraid 5" of screen is too big for me already... The S3 is on a sweet spot on it's size, still fairly big for me, but does have some advantages. Meanwhile, the Note, when I saw it... it looked amazing... but simply, the screen was too big.... so I skipped it and here came the S3

It's not fake.
The Korea Times website is just the online version of a reputable Korean newspaper. It's not sham news site like the dailynews.co.uk is with alien abductions and whatnot.
I'm holding out for the Note 5... or maybe the S6. I just can't decide.
I realize this is a totally subjective topic, but if the 5" screen size rumor holds true, this would suck moose junk in my opinion, unless the plan is to decrease bezel of current sized S3 handset to accomodate more screen.
I sold the Note to move to the S3 specifically because that phone was freakishly and totally unnecessarily gargantuan, so I hate to think that Samsung is moving that direction with the S4 also.
Again, my hope is that they bring the screen out further toward the edges on the same size handset as the S3 currently is, but if not, I think it's HTC time for me, come next Sept when I'm for upgrade.

Agreed, I was hesitant to go to the S3 because 4.8 sounded too big as my kid had a infuse 4g at 4.5...but they figured out how to make the 4.8 the same size basically as the infuse so hopefully they do this again as I just dont think I can go bigger than the S3. I would look for this to be out in June/July just like this year. I will be halfway through my contract so it wont matter much to me...

Then use bluetooth, or a headset, or speakerphone, and if you don't want to, why care what other people think for fraction of time that you hold it up to your ear? 99% of the time we're using our phones as computers, so the larger the screen the better. Sacrificing screen size to please others is retarded; not the other people you're so worried about.
^^^ This. Me.
I really hope they don't go back to different form factors. It's so easy to find accessories for the GS3.

I don't want a big ass phone. I'm only 5'3 and my hands are far from being the largest. If the phone was any larger then I'd have trouble holding it properly. I also just don't like the look of the larger phones. When I see the note I think to myself it is ugly because it is so big.
People other than me may find the larger size more welcome or be indifferent, I just don't want the phone to get any larger.
Can't wait till we start rockin 25 inch phones. That will awesome! Can't wait for 2023!!

[Q] Question for current Galaxy Note 2 owners..

Thinking of getting a Note 2 here in Dubai, just a quick question for people who have a Note 2 or Note 1.. do you get used to the huge size? How long did it take you to stop thinking "damn, that phone is big!" I've played around with the Note 2 and love the screen but have trouble imagining myself using it everyday, but I'm hoping it could grow on me (pun intended)
I'm coming from the Galaxy Nexus if that helps, anyone else made the same transition?
I used Galaxy S1>Galaxy S2>Galaxy s3 and Now Note 2. 5.5 is not a very huge design. Honestly it fits perfectly in my hand and pocket just like Galaxy s3. I can easily operate it with my 1 hand too and my hands are NORMAL. Even if you have small hands or small pockets, you will get used to it within a couple of days. Grab it man , its just Awesomeeee
Have come from a G2, which is way smaller but haven't found it too hard to switch. Have to use two hands for browsing and stuff but it's worth it for the media experience.
If you use your phone mainly as a phone, the Note isn't for you. If you use it more for Internet and media, go for it. You won't regret.

I too am coming from a GNexus and the GN2, to me, feels better in my hand. This is gonna sound funny but I used the GNexus for about a year and it progressively felt like it was too small. haha! I prefer texting and writing emails with both hands so the GN2 obviously gives me more real estate to make that more comfortable for me.
The problem I have now is deciding what I want to read my books and Flipboard articles with...my N7 or my GN2...
Damn I hate you guys! You just made me order a Note 2 32GB which is arriving tonight Now I have to get my SIM cut quickly!
EDIT: Spoke too soon.. they're "out of stock" on the 32GB, got the 16GB instead+ 64GB MicroSD
It is more of a question of 'how did i ever use something so small?' when you pick up your old phone after using the note for a week.

coming from iPhone 4 it took me all of 1 day.. actually more like 8 hrs or so to start wondering why other phones are so small...
it really surprised me a ton as I was dead set on getting the 2gb s3 lte but changed to note 2 at last second at the store counter ... I was pretty much sure I won't get used to the huge size but subtle changes in dimension from note 1 to 2 made a world's difference in handling...

When I was using my GNexus for months people were asking how I could possibly like using a phone so huge. Most of them are iPhone users minus a few that have seen the light that is Android. I seriously don't know how people can be very productive with anything smaller than 4.7" screen. Blows my mind now

Not long at all. I always wanted a bigger phone, and most importantly - I realized right away that I shouldn't bother trying to use it one handed.

Too big? Nope nope nope. Got used to it immediately, mainly because it looked soooo much bigger in all the videos i watched.
Once i actually saw the box it came in i was like, wow! Thats perfect. So watch all the videos you can BEFORE and it won't seem too big at all...problem solved : )
I love this phone sooooooo much, it has inspired me to invent a new word: This phone is, "unputdownable.".. get Webster's on the line...lol
Not big. At all.
GNexus feels now like smth way to small.
Only one thing that annoys me, that battery cover is kinda slippery.

[Q] Buying the note 2 or waiting for the s4

im in no kind of rush to buying a new phone but cant decide should a buy the note 2 right now or should i wait for the s4,i'm absolutely loving the concept of the note 2 and all of its features but im just so curious to find out how the s4 is gonna be,and what i saw on the rumour side it could be a epic phone and especially waiting for the new exynos processor
There is always something just around the corner and it is usually not as good as predicted.

agree to this, was going to say how bout note 3 after that s4 released... besides, you never know what tomorrow brings, are you even 100% sure that when s4 released you're still alive (no offense) ... if the budget is there, i'd say go for it, if not, thats another story...
Just buy the Note 2. You're missing out on months of awesomeness if you choose to wait around for the GS4.
Here is how i managed to calm down my hunger for buying every new coming phone;
I wrote down what i need and what they deliver and graded them. 2.5 months ago i was thinking about S3 or G-Nexus after selling my HTC One X which was a pain in the wallet, not a game phone. Then I noticed the 4 core at that moment was not deatly necessary (it's still not) and the software was more important and went for the Note. I love the design of the Galaxy Nexus and the Vanilla advantages but i told myself that it was not gonna grow more space or FM radio or better GPU out of nowhere. On the other hand the Galaxy phones were gonna have the updates eventually. So i crossed out the Nexus. Then the next battle was between S3 + Nexus 7 tablet or Galaxy Note with its S pen and bigger screen. I told myself if i was gonna have a 4 core tablet there would not be need for a more powerfull phone so G-Nexus was enough with a Nexus 7. However Nexus was not enough for what i want under my pocket because i was not gonna carry my tablet everyday with me. So the only choice left for me was Galaxy Note. And i bought it then it was repaced by a new one by the warranty. Lucky me So basically; first find the phones that atratcs you and elect them by calculating your needings.
It is just 4 more days. If it is cathing your eye everytime you see a picture or read an article about the Nexus 4 than wait for it. Once it is on the shops go and compare them. Good luck
Id say Get it. Think that there will always be something new and better in a close future. But right now this is the best for me and its gonna stay like that for a while I guess. I havent encountered any major problems. Yes the screen is big but you'll get used to it very quickly if thats a matter.
What if theres no s4 ? You can still wait and have it cheaper though

Who's upgraded from Note 3?

Hi Guys
I know a couple of members have upgraded from the Note 3 but I'm still undecided.
I've become a little bored of the Note now because I've had it since launch but I'm a big fan of carrying spare batteries and the screen size.
Those of you that's upgraded, are you missing anything from the Note? I'm going away on holiday soon and I won't have a tablet so will the M8 suffice to watch a few quick movies etc?
Thanks!
