Will this revert everything back to stock? I mean will root be lost, and Knox reset? I've been reading some posts that just rooting the phone makes you lose the ability to get OTA updates. I actually can confirm as all I did was root, and now checking for updates says my device has been modified, and I can't get them.

Hmm. I know this is so far in the future I'm sure, but I wonder if just having Knox changed will prevent OTAs. Just curious really, so no need to rush to a fix for Knox. LOL

Hey thanks for the file saved my ass after a botched recovery install. I hope someone can post this file up on another website because last night i tried to download using the slow (NONE PAY) method at http://www.filefactory.com/file/5u0ud54hxu3l/N900TUVUBMI7_N900TTMBBMI7_TMB.zip
and waited four hrs (at 3am) for the download to fail with a server error after 4.5 hrs. So i felt better to pay the website for their unlimited speed downloads. Well that was a crock of S*** because i still had to wait for over an hour to complete the download. I hope someone will post this somewhere where it can be easier to get so you don't suffer my grief.
I do want to thank deeznutz1977 for the file because without it I would still be stuck in a bootlopp at startup after installing twrp recovery that apparently has some real issues. Thanks for saving my bacon deeznutz1977.

Q: When to Root?

I just bought my SGS3 yesterday and still going under battery calibration, first cycle. Question is should I wait to complete the battery calibration before rooting or go ahead and root?
I'm coming from a Vibrant, so I know about rooting, just don't know if its a better idea to get the calibration done right first before rooting.
I would just go ahead and root it. I rooted mine on like the 2nd or 3rd day

I just rooted my phone anyways! Ah, I guess I have been misinformed and been trapped in my old ways, Vibrant ways. lol. Had another question, will removing any of the T-Mobile crapware mess with the full functionality of the stock rom? I remember for the vibrant, removing certain apps caused the phone to force close repeatedly and crashed the phone.

Learning is what happens when you do something that you don't have the knowledge to do. If I said I knew what I was doing before I started flashing, I would be a liar. That being said, a smart person learns from other people's mistakes. Read a lot.
It's simple. Basically, never flash anything that isn't made for the SGH-T999. And if using Odin, always use PDA.
Since you are rooted, get Terminal Emulator from the Play Store. Run it, and type: su <enter> reboot nvbackup <enter>. This will backup your IMEI data, so it can be restored should it ever become corrupted. You will only need to do this one time.
Follow these instructions, and it's pretty much impossible to hard brick.
You want to check root status? Why do you need another app from the Play Store? Just open Superuser/SuperSU. It will tell you if the binaries are present/updated. Though, the presence of a su app is generally indicative that you have root access.

Cannot software update after rooting

Entirely up to you, honestly it isn't that hard to make a backup of all your apps with 'Helium' and restore onto the stock rom, etc. It's the challenge everyone faces when flashing ROMs. I would wait until there's an update and see what changes it brings before reverting. But you will want to download the stock .tar for instances you need to go back to stock.

For People Who Bricked Their Phones Trying to Downgrade from 4.3

if you tried to downgrade your phone back to an earlier version and soft bricked it after having upgraded your phone to the new OTA, Use the odin tar from here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=22379

[Q] Upgrading from 4.2.2 to custom 4.3/4.4

Ok guys, new to this phone, just came from an xperia z. I've been doing some reading and i'm a little bit lost.
So far I have my phone on 4.2.2, never been updated, and i have it rooted and running clockworkmod as a recovery.
I have a few questions before I do anything, i've been reading about KNOX and i'm a bit confused. Does KNOX come back when you update to a different rom? When I fired up SuperSU for the first time it asked me if I wanted to disable KNOX features, and it did so successfully. My question is, is there anything to look out for before updating?

If you update via OTA, your bootloader will come with a KNOX counter, which cannot be reset at the moment. If you flash anything when you have that, it will trip the counter and your warranty is voided.
I'd suggest flashing a 4.3 or 4.4 rom if you wanna update it, then flash the MK2 modem to get normal signal.

Ok, I do not care about any warranty, I take care of my electronics. Not trying to be rude, but i wanted to clear that up. I know warranty is out the window at this point.
So I can update to just about any rom, but i would have to flash the MK2 modem right after to fix signal problems?
Sorry for so many questions, but i guess I am a bit late getting into the S4 game.
Yes, that's right. Beware of potential issues though, some people have reported the modem didn't stick when they flashed it. It went fine for me and most people, but I just wanna give you a heads up.
And somehow flashing rom with Odin always causes issues for me. TWRW is the best!

I'm not planning on flashing roms through ODIN, just the modem.
So if i flash this now, its SUPPOSED to stick onto the phone even if i fluctuate through different roms?
Also, if i install a rom that says knox-free i would be able to flash it no problem right?
Yes. You only need to flash the modem once. All the custom roms on here are KNOX free, so no worries there.

I take care of my S4 too, and I still avoid Knox like the plague. I'm sure the next person to own this phone will appreciate it.
Anyway, you might consider installing Mobile Odin from the Play Store. I've flashed a couple roms that caused my baseband to show as unknown and using MO to reflash the MK2 modem was insanely more convenient than using Odin on my PC.
