[Q] Battery Life - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

I'm a bit confused here and hope someone can clear it up for me. Some of the reviews are saying the battery life is under eight hours. However the review from Androidpolice is saying he got 22hrs heavy use and with normal use it could be almost 2 days. Can someone tell me what the battery life is really like?

I suspect the shorter times are referring to performance in a battery run down test where a HD video is put on a loop and played until the device dies.

I have only had mine for 2 days and this is not normal use because of downloads etc... but I believe I'm getting 8-10 hours out of the 2014 edition where I was getting 6-8 hours out of last years Note 10.1. I still have last years model as it is going to ebay soon so I know there is an improvement!

I'm hoping it lasts 9-10 hours at least. Coming from an iPad, I have a feeling the battery life will be one of the worst things about android for me.

I'm getting around 8h. battery life

really enough juice for me
Hello, i am a engineering student and i am very happy about my Battery life.
I Use my P-605 to take notes in the university.
For example, on a day with three lectures.
First Lecture, i use LectureNotes to mark something in the PDF scriptum and write down a few notes.
Second and third, creating a whole Entry which causes that the screen is nearly 95% of the 1,5h Lecture active.
After that, driving home with the bus with listening to music and checking facebook and xda.
The Energy saver made was enabled (because it was implemented for Such reasons) and screen on Auto (+0, +1).
After that day, 70%, not bad, or not?
I used some of the tricks mentioned here in an xda threat to increase the Batterytime.

That's about what I get of screen on time.
At this exact moment I'm on pace for about 9 and a half hours with 2 days on time
Sent from my SM-P600 using Tapatalk 4

8-9 hours screen time is what mine gets. This is with a 1 minute time out and 20% brightness. If you use the default 30 second time out and auto brightness, you may be able to squeeze out another hour or so.
Go by screen time and not total uptime. One person's "heavy use" is someone else's "casual". I'll use the Note for 5 or 6 hours straight. That will get me down to 30% or thereabouts. As such, I'll never get 2 days out of it or an iPad.

Playing any type of game, even ones that aren't graphically demanding like clash of clans or plants vs zombies 2 drains the battery very very fast, i could lose 50% in 2-3 hours.

Just about hitting 8 with all the extras disabled and just browsing the web and youtube

it really depends on what you do. i watch movies using plex, browse, play games for about 4 hours a day. i recharge my tablet every 3 days. at the time it still has 20%. also note that when it is in stand by mode it loses some charge

Battery issues.

Hi all. Had my gnex for about 3 months. Rooted her when I got it. Currently running Francos kernel with AOKP ms4. The battery life is ****. Maybe 3-4 hours on heavy usage. Also. It believes its always plugged into charge. Though thats only been happening for 2-3 weeks. What would be the cause of this and fixes. I have tried multiple batteries. The stock and an 1950mah one. Both yielding the same result, no difference in battery capacity. I use cpuspy and I believe it is going into deep sleep. Thankyou
Adam
3-4 hours of heavy usage is not abnormal. Reading the franco kernel thread, I see most people are getting less than 4 hours of screen time or 5 hours if easy screen use such as ebook reading.
Regarding "It believes its always plugged into charge.", can you give some symptoms?
Really? I've seen screenshots with people pulling 2 days out. Obviously not browsing YouTube l day but I don't even get half that on idle.

This. Completely stock, "heavy" (i.e. not reading text on black background) usage seems to kill the battery in around 3 hours. In my experience, this is about right for web browsing. Of course, this increases if I'm viewing a darker screen.
GSM Arena did a test: http://blog.gsmarena.com/samsung-ga...y-tested-results-come-out-disappointing-test/
Would be interested to see the screenshots of 2 days worth of usage. Would be more interested to see screen-on time for these.

Sometimes I'll have a streak of only really using my phone for texting and it'll go for >2 days. Idle drain is really minimal if you reign in what apps can run in the background and you're in good reception areas. If you get your phone set up right it would be draining close to 1% per hour when not being used. Do the math and truly light usage could easily go for 3 days or so.
The trouble is that everyone has their own idea of what constitutes heavy/moderate/light use (is that a lot of texting and a little bit of web browsing? A little gaming and a lot of email writing?), so unexplained reports of "my battery lasted for this long!" are pretty useless to everyone.

Hyperion battery under-performing?

Got the Hyperion last week from Amazon and overall I was impressed with its initial performance. It was a huge boost from the oem battery as I didn't have to recharge my phone at all during the day.
My only concern is that I've noticed I haven't been seeing similar numbers as others have mentioned with their Hyperion. I mean, I'm not getting 24+ hrs of use with 8 hrs of on screen time. I'll take a photo next time when its at its lowest charge but I am averaging about 5-6 hrs of on screen time, and thats with basic use, surfing the web, texting, couple phone calls, no games or movies, wifi/gps/sync on, and 30% brightness, non rooted as well.
Does anyone else feel their Hyperion isn't performing as others have claimed?

24+ hours with 8+ hours screen is is down right impossible. The reason people get extended batteries is because they want more than the stocks screen time for 4-5 hours without worrying about their phone dying.
Not really... With the correct kernel and ROM I can push that if not surpass it. Paranoid 2.51 leankernel 1.6 been home all day from the storm... That's 3 hours 12 mins screen on time @ 67% juice left.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
For me, not so much. Today for an example, I got a little over 12 hrs until I hit the 5% mark with almost 6 hours of screen on time. Home all day too with wifi on and screen brightness at 30%.
One thing I did notice though is that the "sdcard" used 1 hr and 17 mins of the battery. I've never even seen the sdcard on the activity list before, this is the 2nd time I've seen it since installing the Hyperion battery. Hmm what could it be?
I almost made it.. I'm running Aokp build 4. Not sure what the kernel is.
Plus the batteries have to go through a charging period... I noticed the first day it lasted a long time almost 2 days. (1day22hrs)I forget what the screen on time.

Have you looked at any wakelocks your getting with better battery stats? That is pretty bad for the 4200 batt. Did you do the charging cycles that were detailed in the user manual?
Hey I was just passing by and reading threads, although I don't have this battery, a very possible reason that your battery life might not be as good is that you're still on stock. Notice everyone else who posted is on a custom rom + kernel. The GS3 stock roms are nice but come very bloated with apps. I read somewhere that on stock when you start up your phone, by default it starts a very impressively high number of processes ~50ish. I could be wrong on that but yeah a bloated stock rom MIGHT be the problem. Just my thought.

No I have not tried that app yet.
And yes I did follow the initial charging instructions as well.
It has to be something with the phone because even with the stock battery I had terrible performance, it'd last me only 3 hrs of on screen time where I've heard most users receive around 5.
He is my cpu time, it seems normal since the phone is spent most of its time in deep sleep.
Good at first/No so good after a couple months?
I havce the Hyperion, and have experienced close to 48 hours of life, albeit with very little use. With moderate use, I've experienced 30 hours. My screen time never surpasses 3 hours per day.
A few weeks ago I installed the Serenity 1.1 ROM. I have not been able to get more than 15 hours with that ROM.
This morning, I put in my stock battery, and it has been in for 9 hours so far, and is currently at 83%. I did a reboot about 4 hours ago, so don't have accurate screen-on stats. But I'm never at 83% this time of day with the Hyperion.
ANyone else experience good, then later, poor performance from this battery?
In the beginning I head awesome battery power. Now the battery is horrible I only get 2 hours screen time at 65 percent. Any ideas? Also undervolted and running 1.8mhz but battery still runs hot.

[Q] Question about battery

Is it normal that my battery goes down a percent every 3-4 minutes, just by doing simple things like web browsing?
No. Something is wrong on your end. Check for any apps running the background that shouldn't be running at all.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Open the battery utility to see what is consuming the highest percentage of power.
The display is one of the biggest power consumers. What level is your brightness at? The new N7 can achieve almost 600 nits. That is ridiculously high. The ipad 3/4 and Mini max out around 400 nits. I've found 200 to be a good compromise between battery life and ease on the eyes.
I have. I even factory restored. The standby time is great but once I start using it the battery just drains like that
I would let the device die completely and charge it up to 100% and use it intensely for a bit and track it. My experience with Android is to let the first few cycles of battery settle in the kernel and all that. Sometimes Unix takes a few days to get acquainted with it's space in my experience.

I have about 5 hours on actual screen on time right now and I'm at 38% and 13h since I pulled it off the charger. Mine tends to drop a lot when using Facebook and playing games, cause they're memory hogs. I can listen to music and go on reddit for probably an entire day and it'll get 10 hours.

I got battery issues as well only 5 hours of on screen time........ You can get "Better battery stats" free from Xda, but I can tell you I've checked and nothing is running in the background, deep sleep is good but it dies after about 5 hours of using it. It's looking like some units are shipping with a defective battery. I don't see a lot of people reporting this though.

It just sucks because other than the battery issue this device is perfect no light bleed issues or nothing
Also does your battery sometimes skips percentages? Because mine does

Most of the battery issues I've seen have all had the 5 hour screen on time problem, I don't know I just find that really weird but oh well
I'm also getting average of 5hrs screen on time. Nothing is draining the battery as far as I can tell. Today for instance I took it off the charger and went out. 7hrs later it had 96% with 6 minutes on screen time. It's at 13hrs on with 5 hrs on screen time mostly chrome, Twitter, instagram, Google+, quick games of words with friends and draw something 2 five minutes each game max if that. I would kill for anything close to 7hrs let alone 9hrs. Also the touch sensitivity goes bonkers often with my Nexus registering touches pretty far from where my finger is. I think I might just try and exchange it. Brightness at 20% maybe.

I have a battery drain issue with my new nexus 7. it cost 25%-30% battery overnight while i was sleeping. so i decided to factory reset it, and not installing any apps to test its standby time. it still cost ~20% battery overnight. Is it a defective product or it's a software issue? Maybe i should return it for a new one

Battery Test
I pulled my new N7 off the charger thsi morning and decided to test the battery because it seemed to be draining too quickly for my taste. I streamed two movies, Star Trek (2009) from Google Play and The Apostle from Showtime Anytime. that is only 4 hours and 20 minutes of movies. My tablet died before the Apostle finished. Had about 20 minutes left on it.
I am not satisfied with this paltry battery life. Google website said it would run 9 hours of movies non stop. 4 hours isn't even close. There are several "comparisons" out there but they only compare what the company said. I am not sure the battery is all it is cracked up to be. I am going to do some further testing but right now it looks like I will forego the New Nexus 7 and pick up a Kindle Fire HD. That battery life does last for hours and for what I need it will suit me fine.
I welcome your comments.

Yeah the battery is terrible for some. There's a chance our nexus 7's are defective but maybe a software update will fix it? Who knows

I can get as much as 10+ screen on time with my Note 3 though 8-9 hours is more normal. That's with -5-6 or so hours of SlingBox/Netflix/HBO GO/YouTube streaming with Web, Note taking and email all day. I've watched whole NFL games with my SlingBox in HD with 40% brightness and still had 55-60% battery left to give you an idea. I run my Note 3 with 25% or so brightness most of the time unless I'm streaming video content. I'm not into a gaming much on my phone though. I don't want the burn in with Amoled displays so I keep my screen low unless i need it up.
I don't know a lot about the G2 but the Note 3 is a beat with battery life. The SS is from a few days ago with 4 episodes of Breaking bad and an hour of the Super Bowl streaming with my SlingBox. Damn GF hauled my ass out of the house for an hour during the SB. That's 5+ hours and still 47% battery left.
Stock battery life = anywhere from a day and a half with 12-16 screen on hours to a full days use with 8-12 hours screen on.
Zero lemon im getting up to 5-6 days with at least 24hrs screen on time but have seen 36hrs screen on before, minimum battery life i have gotten was a solid 48 hrs with heavy use and 26-32 hrs screen on.

I'm running stock ROM but removed bloat, CIQ, running leankernel and typically go 3 days between having to charge the phone.
I am on WiFi 90% of the time, and mainly just use the phone for checking SNS, email, and some texting/chatting and daily YouTube updates for 30-60 mins.
Been getting roughly 8 hours screen-on time before hitting that 15% battery remaining notification.

Yes this was stock at the time
I'm not familiar with the real-world performance of the G2 battery. But I must say that, by far, the Note3 has the best battery performance out of any smart phone I've ever owned. (Which isn't saying much cuz I can say that about every smart phone I owned compared to the previous phone) I just use it as much as I want. I don't even worry about it anymore.
I've even gotten crazy and started underclocking to 960mhz with conservative governor. Keep your screen around 40-50% and (so long as you aren't in a very low signal on all protocols area) it barely drains and I barely notice even the slightest hit to performance. (...and I am picky as hell about stuff like that. 30fps drives me crazy, I can detect latency in the 10-20ms range...it's a curse really). I just get a clump of lag every now and then. For 2 days off charge? I'll take it.
I don't keep track of screen on time...yet. I guess I should do that one of these days. But I take my phone off the charger at 6:30am and usually plug it in again around 12:30am or so...I'm usually around 35%, give or take 10% depending on if it was a heavy or light use day.
Sorry I can't answer your direct comparison question. I can't imagine a phone having better battery life stock (even if I didn't underclock)...but from what I've read in this thread the G2 is the one to beat. It seems as though they are at least comparable within a reasonable margin of error.
I've not had the G2 but from what I've been reading if they are fairly comparable with the GS with a 5.2" display and 3500mah battery and the Note 3 has a 5.7" display with a 3200mah battery I would have to look at the OS optimizations as being better maybe with the Note 3. Plus you do get the Spen and 3GB of RAM instead of 2GB of Ram with the G2
Note 3 Battery life is amazing and even better if you get the Zerolemon extended battery (completely overkill btw)

[Q] Battery Case

No, your not wrong, the phone is going to have less talk time than some of its larger battery packing competitors given the same use, physics works as they say. I'm on the lookout myself but have yet to see anything.
It could could be a software and hardware thing, as samsung does take a big dump on android. Pure android and especially 4.4 theoretically should have a lower power consumption.
how long does it generally last when mid-heavily used?
I can't comment on battery life, but I can tell you you won't be seeing a battery case. Only 2 products sell enough to make it a reasonable expense to develop: The newest iPhone, and the newest Galaxy S.

I disagree, my DHD had quite a few and it didn't have that many sales (probably less than nexus 5 in a month or so)
I'm getting much better battery life than any previous phones I've had. I can squeeze about two full days out of it with about 3-4 hours of screen on time. If I use it a lot (6+ hours screen on) or do battery heavy tasks (play a lot of games, talk on the phone a lot), then it still lasts a full day (from wake up to sleep). Unless you absolutely abhor charging your phone every night, I don't think it's worth the unnecessary bulk of a battery case.

Is this on stock? I understand that diff configs will have diff results. When I go to bed, I usually have about 40% left with 15 hours run time about and 1 hour of screen time. This is with two gmail accounts syncing, facebook and everything on. It's not bad but nowhere near 6 hours of screen time. Especially if I play a game like Asphalt 8. The battery drops like crazy. Not complaining, but I would love to have 6 hours of screen time.
I contacted Mophie to see if they had plans to make a case for the N5. I just got a pretty generic email back but looked like they would be working on something for the N5.

I didn't make it clear enough in my post, but when I said 6 hours of screen on time or battery heavy tasks, I meant one or the other but not both. If I play games or do a lot of battery heavy tasks,t hen it doesn't last anywhere near two days. I might get 6 hours screen on time if I don't play any games, make no phone calls for the day (which is odd, I do admit), and mostly browse the internet, text, view pictures, check facebook, things of that nature. On average, I get anywhere between 2-4 hours screen on time with usually an hour of gaming, mostly texting, browsing, and other small stuff like that. It usually lasts me 2 days. It's not fantastic battery life, but definitely better than my S3 and my Atrix before that.
EDIT: I didn't use my phone much at all today. I've got about 10 minutes of phone calls and an hour of screen on time, 13 hours total, and I'm sitting at 72%. You might want to check what is using the most battery in your battery settings or download an alternate app. Screen is typically using 2 to 3 times more than the next thing under it (which for me is WiFi).
