t mobile galaxy s4 totaly bricked - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I tied to flash the pac-man 4.2.2 ROM to my rooted s4. It worked but all the Google apps did not come with it... so I downloaded an app package off of GooManeger. Anyway after reboot it was obvious the app package was not compatible. Wiped phone, then no ROM, no OS, no nothing. Device doesn't get past initial boot screen. I can get into download and recovery mode. Not really sure how to download anything on my phone right now as my computer doesn't recognize it anymore. My recovery mode is TeamWin. I'm sure there's more you want to know so please ask and I appreciate your help.

You need to start from scratch using ODIN and flash the stock/non rooted Tmobile Samsung Galaxy S4 M919 firmware.
(using download mode in the phone)
Here is the download link: http://www.hotfile.com/dl/213469534/9ff06bd/M919UVUAMDL_M919TMBAMDL_TMB.zip.html
After the odin flash you will need to root the phone unless you want to keep it stock.
Good luck!

You may have wiped the /system folder which may explain why your phone is stuck on the booting sequence. As the poster said above, use Odin to flash the stock MDL and root again. As far as your computer not recognizing it. Put the phone into download mode (Vol Down + Home + Power), plug the phone into a different USB port (and let the drivers install if it's the first time you're plugging your phone in that port for Windows users), and then open up Odin and flash the stock firmware from there. Let us know if Odin recognizes your phone.

If you can still get into download mode and recovery, you are NOT totally bricked.

Recovery is not working
Got phone back to normal, then accomplished root access. Downloaded clock work and now recovery mode does not work. I downloaded CW from hot file. I was sure to download the right one for my phone... anyway I cant factory reset at the moment, it just sticks at recovery boot screen. What I'm trying to accomplish is download CW, pacman 4.3 ROM, and Gapps.

You gotta be careful where you're getting your files from man.
Try Philz CWM flash via Odin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2322676
You could also Odin back to stock (you know how to do that now:good
Root again and use ROM Manager to install CWM.

Odin back to stock and re-root. IIRC, CWM should be available from the Play store where you can then open the app and install/update the libraries. Didn't Pacman ROM include CWM?

Thank you guys for the advice. Super usefull
I was under the impression I needed to download a download a recovery mod first. Where is the best place to get my ROMs? I'm real interested in the pacman. I extracted the pacman files but it wont plug into the PDA in Odin. Also MD5 hash checker is something I've never heard of..

What? You don't install Pacrom through Odin. You flash the zip in recovery.

You need to have a working custom recovery first. Like Skipjacks stated, you flash ROM in the custom recovery.
I think you should start from the beginning and take it step by step.
I assumed at this point you're rooted on the stock ROM with stock recovery?
If not lets get to that stage and we can go from there.
-Stock ROM rooted with stock recovery
-Flash custom recovery
-Nandroid backup
-Flash custom ROM<<You are here
Let us know when you're ready for the next step.:good:

Derp moment. CWM != ROM Mgr. :silly: Thanks for the clarification.

I did it all with exception of flashing the ROM. Every time I try to flash the pacman 4.3 it fails. Any suggestions on how to fix that or should I turn my attention so a different ROM. I'm going for optimization and complete customization, without needing a launcher. Or maybe a suggested ave to customize touch wiz to the fullest.

[Q] Rooted with Odin biut stills says its not? Help?

Good Morning XDA!!!
I went through the Odin Rooting process last night and everything went as planned. I downloaded CWM Manager through Google Play and when I go to open it up it is telling me that the Super User file is not there. I have put Super USer on my phone but again it tells me I need to root my phone. I will admit I am a bit confused, I can boot into CWM mode but since I am not flashing a new rom at the moment I don't know what I did wrong. I did go into the CWM manager to "Flash ClockworkMod Rocovery" but it downloads then tells me there was na error with command lines..........Is there anyone who can help me out.....I really don't get where I went wrong, cause everything says I rooted the phone.....Thanks for any help......

Yes I did but it also was telling me that it wasn't rooted.....however the only thing that I had was the Superuser App. Is there something i need on the SD card? Or to psychically flash to the phone.....thanks for getting back to me with this....
Go into Settings>Apps>Superuser and clear cache and data. Go into the market and go to SuperUser and see if there is an update. This should update the binaries. Then try a Root App to see if you get the SU toast.
2nd option is to boot into recovery and go to wipe /Cache then advanced and wipe /Dalvik-Cache. While in Advanced, hit Fix Permissions and let it run. Reboot and try a Root App.
Btw, you never said how you rooted. Your title says Odin, so I am assuming mrRobinson's method.

Sorry about that......I used the method from this site....http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s3-sgh-t999-t-mobile-easy-root-99302/

Ok, so you downloaded ROM manger from the market and tried to run the recovery script and it is saying that you don't have Root correct?
I agree, I think that you did miss a step somewhere. I suspect it was in between the CWR and SuperUser zips.
Are you familiar with Odin? I assume so since your first post said you Odin'd, but just double checking. I suggest you either start over from the link you posted or try mrRobinson's method. It is real easy and gives you stock ROM, rooted and has the option to install a custom recovery (like CWR or TWRP) also.
Here are Odin versions of both CWR and TWRP. Do this after you've done mrRobinson's method. Once it is done with first reboot (don't forget this take the longest time to boot bc it is rebuilding the /Dalvik), reboot back into download mode and flash either CWR or TWRP that way and you should be good to go after that.

The last phone I rooted was a Mytouch 4G. I am not familiar with Odin. I just went to the site that I posted in my last reply and followed the directions exactly. I only downloaded the IMG file for ClockworkMod that it supplied. It never told me to install or download a SuperUser zip file. I can boot the phone into CWM after shutting down, but when I open the CWM Manager that I downloaded from Google Play it tells me the following:
" You must root your phone for ROM Manger to function. Superuser was not found at "/system/bin/su" or "/system/xbin/su". Use Google search on your computer to find instructions to root your phone."
I am a uber novice. That's strike one....two....I'm a girl.....lol I just don't want to mess up my phone....it was really expensive......lol Thanks again for all the help you are giving me......it is greatly appreciated......
Ok then. I think you missed something then.
Let's do this. You want to download the latest version of Odin (It is here aboout half way down). Install it on your PC.
Then go to mrRobinson's thread and download this This is based off of the stock image TMO T999UVALH2
Perm Mirrorownload - MD5 Sum: 4abdcf029f248e66caa83c9c8477bdff root66_TMO_T999UVALH2.7z
and follow the directions. Unzip it and put the Root66 file on you PC where you know it is. Put your phone in Download Mode (see instructions in the link above on how to do this) and open Odin.
Click PDA in Odin and point it to Root66 file from above and make sure that nothing else is ticked above or below PDA. Click start. It should take about 5mins but less than 10 and you'll reboot and have a Pass.
Once that is done and your phone is rebooted, you can either install CWM or TWRP in odin or from the market. CWR= ROM Manager app; TWRP=Goo.IM app. Those will install your custom recovery.
Above all read the OPs f the threads I linked. They have valuable info in them.
Also, just because you are a girl has nothing to do with it. I know a few girls and women that are power users and will run circles around most in this forum. Don't sell yourself short.
I gotta get to work, but I'll check in on ya later on. Good luck.

You go girl, do your thing...lol i'm happy it worked. Now happy flashing
Good job man. Looks like we may have converted another crack-flasher.
Jinx, first thing you need to do is boot into CWR and make a Nandroid. Save a copy of it to your PC for safe keeping. This will help you recover from any "mishaps".
Why it didn't work
When the phone reboots, it destroys the flags on the root software that was added via Odin.
To get around that problem,
do the odin process again, but uncheck the auto reboot before you start.
Then when the process is finished, take out the battery on the phone.
reinstall the battery after a few seconds, and then....
BE SURE YOU DON'T MISS THIS STEP,
GO INTO cwm PROCESS TO FLASH THE FILE YOU LOADED WITH ODIN.
if you miss the 3 button CWM load it messes up the file and you again have to reload it with odin, so that part is where you might be having the phone not actually root.
Go to this website and watch HOW TO DO IT till you can do it in your mind without any missteps...
Then, It WILL WORK!

JB-MR1 Help!

Hi all, I was on AKOP's milestone ROM before trying to flash their newest one. I did not do anything to the kernel or anything by the way.
I'm using ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.2.7 and I rebooted into recovery and flashed super dark side wipe and then JB-MR1 and then gapps.
I went through the entire start up process with inputting your information and then finally I got into the actual home screen. I clicked around to see how the UI looked and then decided to reboot through the menu.
It was in the rebooting animation icon for at least 30 min before I decided to pull the battery. I want to wipe and start again but my cwm recovery isn't installing anything.
EDIT: The phone still works as I can boot into the phone and use it. I'm trying to reboot now: power button hold>reboot, but its taking ages still...need help on this reboot thanks
Any help here?
EDIT 2: Pretty much phone is "functional" but any method of trying to reboot or reboot into recovery fails
Thanks all!
Check the Md5 hash to make sure it is a good download.
Otherwise it sounds like it is CWM that can be causing issues.
Which version of gapps are you flashing?

Checked the Md5 with an app and it matches up perfectly with akop's main website.
I'm running 6.0.2.8 cwm. Is it even possible that its cwm? I used the same version to flash AKOPs new ROM.
and im flashing gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip
Does it have anything to do with my kernel?
You aren't supposed to use super wipe with cwm 6. That is probably your problem.

Thanks so much for pinpointing the problem! Is there a fix to this?
And is this the recommended method of flashing? (Taken from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1926754):
1. Wipe factory data/reset
2. Wipe cache
3. Go into mounts and storage
4. Format /system
5. Format /data
6. Format /cache
7. Enter advanced
8. Wipe dalvik
9. Flash ROM then gapps
10. Reboot and let the ROM settle for 5-10 minutes if flashing TW ROMs, this step is unnecessary for AOSP based ROMs.
11. (Optional) if flashing a new radio flash AFTER the ROM has been initially booted for the first time. No wipes are necessary when flashing a new radio but it HAS to be flashed after the ROM is loaded and settled in. Flashing a radio first and then a ROM has caused issues like the phone not even recognizing there is a network for it. ( phone remains in emergency mode )
Edit:
Pretty sure my phone is bricked now... in a continuous boot up loop... BUT i can still access recovery

Stock kernel is just fine.
Odin will flash the stock OS to your phone from the computer. Make sure to read the Odin directions a few times before trying it because it could hard brick if something goes wrong.

I'm trying to read through the thread you gave me but its kinda cluttered and its hard finding exactly where to start...pointers?
From the first post of that thread you will need
1. The prerequisites
-Odin
-Drivers
-Kies(dunno if this is mandatory but I guess it couldn't hurt.)
2. T-Mobile t989 uvlhi stock ROM(Odin)
You will need some type of zip software to extract the files from this.
3. Follow the steps under Installation - Odin installation(skip step 1)
After you get the stock ROM running you can install custom recovery and then flash your custom ROMs.

If you download the flashable zip from the first post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30497342
you should be able to flash it from stock recovery. If it doesn't work I will have to look up how to install it with Odin.

I actually got cwm 5.0.2.7 on my phone through odin. I just need root now to upgrade it to the most recent version.
I've been seeing busybox paired with superuser.
Do i need busybox? Or can i just flash superuser through cwm recovery 5.0.2.7?

Why do you need root? You should be able to just flash the newer cwm zip.
Here is a superuser zip that I used successfully on my t989:

Odin Says "Pass", But phone is not rooted.

Hey guys I followed this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2235366
I used a file called "CF-Auto-Root-d2spr-d2spr-sphl710.tar"
Everything goes well and I get a green pass from oden3, the phone reboots. But superSU is not installed and when I check "Root checker" there is no root....
I have 4.1.2
Thoughts?
Just download superuser and simply place it on your phones SD card it's really easy

Your phone is not finishing the process it seems. After Odin says pass do you get a big red Android on the screen? If not flash the cf auto root file but uncheck auto reboot in Odin first. Then when it finishes, pull the cable and remove the battery. Reinsert the battery and manually boot to recovery by holding volume up+home+power and it should finish installing root.
I don't know what the post above me is taking about. Installing superuser isn't going to magically give you root. js

It wouldnt brick the phone but if you are seeing the red android then i was mistaken about what your issue is so disregard. Is your phone new? I bet the issue is related to one others are having where recovery cant mount partitions. To confirm that try this. Download this and place on pc http://goo.im/devs/billard412/d2spr/AUTOBOOT_RECOVERY/SPH-L710_TWRP_AUTOBOOT.exe
Its a odin one click that will autoboot you to twrp recovery just open it and click start with your phone connected in download mode.
Download this and place on your sd card. (preferably external)

If you can successfully flash that zip, it will root the phone.

You want to press install then hit "up a level" until youre in the root "/" directory. Then choose "external_sdcard" then tap "root.zip" and swipe to confirm at the bottom.

It's basically the same thing. Cf auto root will install a special recovery made by chainfire and a cache.img with a root zip. It's supposed to flash that zip then restore stock recovery. I've never seen cf auto root fail to do the job so im not sure what went wrong.
But the way you did it was you installed your own custom recovery and manually flashed a root zip created by me instead. Only thing different here is that you still have that custom recovery instead of stock recovery now.

Got it man, is this custom recovery better than the stock or is it essentially the same? I plan to install a custom rom soon.
(I didn't find many threads like this on google nor the search tool so hopefully people with the same strange problem as me will now find it. Should be useful)

The custom recovery is the same with the exception that it gives you additional privileges over stock recovery. Like installing custom roms, so if you're planning on a custom rom soon then you may as well just stick with the custom one. I do however recommend you download goo manager from the playstore and updating your recovery to the newest with it before trying to flash anything. The recovery I gave you may be a little outdated. And if for any reason you want stock recovery back I'll make a odin tar of it and place it in this post

Personally I think the chances of your efs going bad are slim and a backup is more for paranoid people. With that said it never hurts to back it up. I just wouldn't restore it unless you have to.

See if there is something you are skipping, make sure you have the latest PC drivers
Your not rooted. Reroot using odin 3.0.9 you might need to reinstall stock rom. If you read skynote thread your answer is there as well as download links... your welcome

I re-ran odin and I am now rooted, my phone wasn't in debug mode... and the instructions didn't say that but I tried it and it worked.
Now my problem is when I try to start my phone in recovery mode the galaxy note logo flickers up and down the screen and the phone completely goes dead and i have to take out the battery to get it to start again. I have followed both sets of instructions to a T for clock work mod recovery and it hasn't worked.

Maybe this doesn't apply to you, or maybe it's too late, but some flavors of Samsung Android 4.x have a file to restore stock recovery at boot.
With the phone rooted and a root capable file explorer like Root Explorer or ES File Explorer look in the /etc directory. If there is a file in there called install-recovery.sh rename it and then try re installing cwm or twrp.

Ok so I got TWRP installed.
Next question, I have been out of the loop for a few years so how do I get the latest firmware? Right now I have Android Version 4.1.2 and baseband version I317UCAMH3.
Is that the latest for the galaxy note 2? I have att and its the SGH I317
I didnt even plan to f with my phone but the other day my phone glitched and erased 300 pictures and videos from my newborn daughter that I just had and I was so upset and trying to find a way to recover them, someone told me to root my phone and try disk digger... so far I have had no luck at all with recovering anything... totally sucks and I am soooo upset!

That link there has all the instructions and files you need.
Basically you'll download the 2nd file (the exe version) under the heading "nodata" versions.
then follow the step by step instructions on that page.

i downloaded it and my computer said windows protected my pc
I ran into the boot loop early today when I tried to install CM10.2 via the windows installer.
All I could do was to get the phone to boot into "download mode". However, ODIN wasn't recognizing that my phone was plugged in.
I ended up uninstalling and re-installing the Samsung USB drivers.
When I plugged in my phone it completed the install of the drivers,\.
ODIN then recognized my phone was connected and the "COM" lit up.
I was able to reflash TWRP recovery and get my phone to reboot in recovery and reflash the backup rom.

The ROMS are listed here....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-sprint#romList <- you can get the rom from here (remember to wipe the davlik-cache because I think that is what was causing mine to reboot)
You can alternatively get the CM10.2 (http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=d2spr) from here and copy it to your SDcard and install.
