[Q] Question on [ROM][Cool Sense][5 April]Cool Droid v3|2.3.4|FASTEST|Data++/Stock - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First of all I want to thank everybody whos making efforts so that our beloved Desire survive through out these years!!
I am a Desire owner for more than three years and I could say that I have tried nearly anything on my device.
Currently I am using this Rom with the exactly configuration written by the user.
As the user Tonyp has written in the post, that exact setup is working really good and without any major issues. I have only 3 spots that i would like to point out:
1st When I am call directly from the address book a contact that is stored without the national prefix (+30 Greece) the phone adds automatically the prefix +1 (maybe US I don't really know), so this make the call goes wrong.
2nd From Optimo Settings (included in the Rom) I don't have the choise to dissapear the battery icon and leavy only the numbers.
3rd As it already pointed out, in the Rosie Options, the right button choise for the shortcut isn't working if you select anything else bit the internet browser.
I would really like to hear your thoughts about the things that i've pointed out before, and again to thank everyone that is contributing to the development of our device!!

As an addition to the previous post I have found out that some appz that they use the google account to log in such as youtube and quicktime, they sign in feature doesn't work, although I have install the latest google play services and the syncing of the google account works fine.
Thanks in advance and please if some wants to copy my 2 posts to the development thread, be my guest!!!

Bug tracker website? Would that help? (I'm offering)

Ok. Short story of what I want to do and why.
I am a developer and I feel that I don't contribute enough to this fantastic site and its users. After the recent unpleasantness I went away and thought about what it is that I could do to try and fix this. My idea is a site or section of the wiki built specifically to track bugs and issues in new roms (I was specifically thinking WMXL but there is no reason this can't be used for all of them).
I am currently working on my own XML based site with PHP5 driving and if people think it will be useful I'd write and host this service before I continued with my own site (hopefully before WMXL 0.30 is released).
I want to try and restrict the way people enter and search the information relating to problems with new roms and try to cut out the background noise. I was thinking about having fields such as ROM version (drop down list), radio version (text box), boot loader (drop down list), main program affected (text box), extent of interference (drop down list), description of problem (text area), how to reproduce error (mandatory text area!).
This will hopefully encourage more people to think about what might be causing the problem rather than just posting what they cant do and expecting someone else to work everything out. Forcing a description of how to recreate the problem will hopefully find most users not needing to post after they work it out, and if the recreation steps dont work then the post will be closed. Hopefully people will think enough that I will be able to moderate this forum (type thing) myself and maybe someone in another timezone (closer to the UK) can take care of it while im asleep.
No one can stop n00bs posting silly questions but hopefully we can reduce the amount this annoys everyone else.
Sorry it took so long to describe my idea.

UPDATE: STARTED!
I got started as soon as I'd got a couple of replies but I still need you all.
For the chef's and other brilliant people:
1. What info do you need with each ticket to try solve them?
2. Do you want to be the only one to close tickets? Or should the submitter be able to?
3. What info do you want to store for the roms to filter to the smallest pool of specific tickets?
For the users:
1. How do you want to be able to search this?
I DON'T ASK FOR DONATIONS! ALL I ASK IS THAT PEOPLE SEARCH BEFORE SUBMITTING!

Bugzilla? yes please
This is a very good idea. In fact, I think that we need too a place to store the temporary fixes generated after each ROM publishing. It will be a good place for this too.
Good Idea.
It Would Help A Lot, Sounds Like Finding Answers Would Be Easier And Should Cut Down On The Hostile Atmosphere.
Cheers
Yes, very good idea.
This become easyest forum for everyone.
If it would be of any use, i can host this on one of our UK servers so we get very good speeds? I know 'iammaz' has said he can host it but he is in Australia so for the UK guys it might be a tad slow.
If not then no worries, but just trying to do my bit!

Cheers and I'm sure everyone appreciates the offer. My site is hosted in the US. At the moment this is being built as a module to my current CMS. Whether or not this adds too much overhead I won't know until I try. The problem will be if I use too much cpu time im sure it's against the ToS with my hosting company and they will shut me down.
I hope that I will have it built as a stand alone object by then and anyone else can take this and run this on php5 hosting or in fact I could run it as web services from my personal server at home.
Progress goes well. Just working on possible searching and indexing algorithms to make searching fast and useful.

Great idea
It's 2am. I'm piking for the night. I'm expecting a phone call at 7am tomorrow so will be back into it then for 5 or 6 hours. Hopefully will be almost done by the end of that.
I need to work out how you want to have logins work. I don't think i can make it authenticate against this forum (i havent tried integrating with vBulletin before). Do I allow open registration? do I try make it force you to register the same name but PM'ing the password to that username here? do i manually add people as they ask and restrict the group?
let me know in the next 6 hours or so.

FNG With Questions about ROMS For Open Mobile PR

So as the title states, I'm not only new to the forum, but to the whole world of stock/custom ROMs, and about 95% of the vernacular that appears in your typical conversations.
Before opening this thread, I did read a few others on the subject of Open Mobile users successfully using customized ROMs of other carriers, but with the loss of 3G and/or MMS. (By the way, the feature that shows similar threads under the title box- genius.) I, too, have fallen into that unfortunate category, but with a stock ROM belonging to Metro PCS. It was completely unintentional, the changeover.
After the first 10 minutes of freaking the out, I got my act together and found this forum, among others with not a single solution to my problem, or that of other users with a situation similar to mine.
I would simply like to know if anyone has been able to fix this problem.
As proof I've check other threads,
-This one is for an HTC Hero and in page 2, post #11, someone offers a possible solution, but the person referred to doesn't respond. And I can't really understand what it says.
-This one offers three posts of nothingness.
-This oneseems to have a user inventing a Battleship/Bingo hybrid with all them numbers and less-than-average use of periods.
I appreciate any help anyone offers. And if I posted this in the wrong section, feel free to move it as needed.
Again, thanks.
As a follow-up, today I realized that I could access the Play Store by using 3G only. I could also browse/download apps and use apps that require internet/data connections, such as Words with Friends and Draw Something.
Basically, all I lack now it internet access (I was able to download another browser even just to make sure it wasn't the original one that was FUBAR) and MMS capability (I can receive pictures, but not 100%; more like 90%).
Any thoughts or suggestions?

[Guide] Google Now: Setup and Usage Tips

I’ve noticed that in most development threads there are users complaining about not being able to get Google Now working correctly. I thought I’d share the steps I’ve taken to setup Google Now, and it’s been working perfectly for me.
Before we begin there are two things to clear up. Firstly, in order for Google Now to work properly you are going to need to be OK with easing off on several privacy settings. You will need to enable Web History and Location Sharing; so if you are uncomfortable with this or are a bit of a privacy nut (nothing wrong with that!) then Google Now is not for you, and will never work as intended.
Secondly, Google Now takes time to gather information about you before it will start working as you expect. This means you need to use it! Anytime you are doing a Google search from your phone, use Google Now; when you’re waiting for a bus, open Google Now, etc. After a few hours/days (depending on how much you use it) it will begin to display your Now Cards correctly.
Prerequisites:
1.A Jelly Bean custom ROM (e.g. TeamNDVRu CM10)
2.Google Now enabled (obviously)
3.Google Maps installed
4.At present Google Now will only work correctly when using English as the default language (US/UK both work)
Before using Google Now
Enable Web History:
1.We need to enable ‘Web History’ for our Google searches. From your desktop/laptop go to your Google Account settings (click your username/email address on the Google homepage and go to Account).
2.Select ‘Products’ then scroll down and select ‘Web History’. Ensure this is enabled, if paused click ‘Resume’. Web History is now enabled
Enable Location Sharing:
1.Open Latitude (found in your app drawer). Go to settings.
2.Make sure ‘Location Reporting’ is set to ‘Your location is reported automatically’
3.Make sure ‘Enable Location History’ is ticked. You can set the ‘Check In’ options as you wish, I don’t use this feature myself.
4.Open Google Maps. You should see your Latitude location centred on the screen. Click your avatar (the square pic pointing out your location). Select your name. Select ‘Location Settings from the pop-up menu.
5.Press the menu key and select ‘Change home location’ – enter your home address. Then press the menu key again and select ‘Change work location’ – enter your work location (this can also be your School/University if you want)
6.Location Sharing is now set up for Google Now
Google Now Setup:
1.Open Google Now and follow the on-screen instructions. Select ‘Yes I’m in’ when prompted.
2.Press the menu key, select ‘Settings’
3.Select ‘Now Cards’ – you can set this up as you wish, depending on what features you want to use and how you want to use them. It’s pretty self explanatory.
4.Go back and select ‘Voice’. Set language to ‘English UK’ or ‘English US’ (At present only English as default will work).
5.Select ‘Download offline speech recognition’. Go to the download tab and download ‘English UK’ language if you want to use it (US is default). – it’s a small download
6.Go back and select ‘Privacy and accounts’. Make sure ‘Location and Google Search’ + ‘Show recent searches’ + Search on google.com’ are all ticked.
7.Go back and select ‘Phone search’ – set this as you wish, if you don’t want Google Now to search your contacts for instance, then un-tick it.
8.Google Now is now setup properly, start using it!
Notes/Tips
-If you use Google Apps for Business you will need to perform an extra step. Login and go to Settings, scroll down and select Mobile. There will be a checkbox ‘Use Google Now’, make sure this is ticked.
-To have the Calendar card work properly you will need to set times and locations for your appointments/reminders. E.g. you’re doing an early shift in work, so set your appointment location to your work address, then set the times to the shift start/end times rather than ‘All Day’. The card will popup a few hours before your shift and should bring the Traffic card along with it to tell you how long it might take you t o travel/when to leave to arrive on time.
-Depending on where you live the Public Transport card may not behave as you would expect. In the area of London I live for instance, the Now Card will only show when I’m near major stations/bus stops and will not show for every single one. This may vary around the world, or even in different areas of the same city.
-Some Now Cards may never show, they are all situational (you can set the Weather to always show, but it’s the only one). It depends entirely on how you use Google Now. E.g. if you never search for your football teams results or fixtures, then the Sport Card is never going to show.
-When out and about, turn GPS/WiFi on to get a better fix on your location, helps with the Public Transport card especially.
Hopefully this gets some of you going with Google Now. Some of the steps may be superfluous but, again, this is just what worked for me after many frustrating hours of trying to figure it out!
To do: Add screenshots
Nice write up Man...Have you had any trouble with GNow adding unwanted sports teams to your cards? I can't seem to shake the LA Galaxy soccer club. I don't like soccer, much less the Galaxy.
Thanks for this mate, its awesome. I know this question may seem like I'm noob, which is because I am. I have had a little search but not sure if there is a way to get Google Now working on a sense rom on 4.0.4 such as ARHD?
Don't hate, just asking a noob question
Thanks
I can't read black on dark grey, there's not enough contrast. If you're going to set the font colour (please don't) to something, can you also set the background colour so there is some contrast? Cheers.
Perhaps I'm just missing something, but I followed these instructions to the letter and regardless, every time I open up the Google Now settings the top right on/off "switch" has defaulted back to off. Anybody having similar problems?
Good write up, thank you! Installed the new Maximus ROM last night, got a cool Google Now surprise this morning.
Looked up the web sites of two computer stores and a restaurant menu on my desktop computer. Then picked up my phone, and cards had popped up showing directions to the stores and restaurant, with travel time estimates and traffic updates. Pretty cool!
Good selection of sports teams on there now, I'll be stoked when they expand the service with more offerings.
Just installed the Maximus ROM too and used your guide to set mine up. This thing is something else. LOL. Very impressive
Is anyone having issues with sports fixtures displaying the wrong time zone on GN? I have a card for my team, but when I press the card and am directed to Google the fixture times are in US Eastern Time even though the team and I are in the UK
getting a removed card returned
I accidentally removed a package tracking card and can't seem to get it back. Any suggestions?

Hi,
you probably swiped away the card, for that moment the card is gone, but somehow it will turn up once you open up Google Now again. if not, sometimes, a reboot of your phone will show up the card afterwards., at least, for me this helps! :good::cyclops:
Good luck mate!

Nice thread! :good:
Just have a minor question, hope somebody can help me with that. I was wondering if Google Now needs Auto Sync been turned on permanently. It does save me alot of battery and data usage if I can leave it off. I think personally that Google will collect information anyway wih Now because I have my location settings turned on.
Can somebody tell me??
Thanks and I wil def follow this Thread!
My tip is to disable the useless POS. All it does is rinse your battery with constant wakelocks!
Until they improve it and make it vaguely useful it will be switched off.
And ppl like me,who can't change language to English US or UK ... What we to do?! ^^

Now commands problem
I have my android system in english but i have configured google now voice recognition in spanish. The problem comes when I want a command like weather, questions, etc. Voice recognition captures correctly what I said in spanish but all it does is search for that text in Google, even if it is a command. The problem is solved when I change my voice recognition to english. Also tried to set my android system in spanish along with voice recognition in spanish and commands worked.
So my question... ¿how can i have my system and voice recognition in different languages using voice commands?
Thanks

Hi James,
sorry for my late reaction! I think it depends on if your Chrome Browser is the default browser on your device. When it is en and it's still giving you that message, I should check if it appears all the time or just when you're starting Google Now. If it does, maybe you should re install Chrome and try it again! :fingers-crossed:
Here it's working fine!
Good luck fella!
Regards,
Jeroen

That's because Google Now is only configured to give you reply or a card, whenever you put the voice command in English. Other languages are not supported yet to give you a spoken answer or card. You should put everything in English and then you'll see it works. Otherwise you should wait untill they have support for voice commands in Spanish!
Good luck!

Hey, lately I was wondering to start use Google Now but there's one thing I'm worried about the battery usage, does it consume a lot of battery? Because I always get to 5% battery in the end of the day..
The drain comes from the constant location reports needed for GN to work properly. They cause enormous amount of wakes so yes, it drains.

[Q] Is 'Droid working strictly for us (and not for Google) possible?

Hi, guys!
Before I pose my question: I am really in awe of projects in the Open Source community style and this is soooooo good to see and experience (my other hobby is Sat TV "hacking" and so on... )!!!!!!!!!! :good: So, endless thanx and respect(!!!!) to all involved!!!!!!!!!!
Context: recently I managed to S-OFF my HTC Desire with 'Droid 2.2.2, then somehow I rooted it, 4EXT recovery/backup (if memory serves, the "touch" one) is in, in recovery mode I flashed the latest MIUI ROM (sorry if I misspelled it) with JB 4.1.2, improved the "radio" and so on... The one or two things that do not work - that I noticed - was no sending SMSs and poor video recording and reproduction. So, the search is continuing!
My question is - before I attempt the flashing of Paranoid Android ROM (how fitting, regarding my question! ) - is there a ROM that has kicked the living daylights out of Google corporate c*a#, please? As in, there is no stuff, in that would-be ROM, that constantly collects our data and sends it back to corporate and other commercial coders, please?
Because, as a matter of principle, we ought not to have to think of just how much data is going to corporation(s) and individuals coding apps etc. And from then on, to "authorities", of course. Not that I have anything to fear, in that respect - but it is the principle that is at stake here! Similar with Linux v. MacroHard and their "enlightened" attitude towards our privacy etc.
You know, we have a myriad of apps of all sorts, so I suppose we do not need Google's intrusion in all aspects of our interaction. I am perfectly happy, for instance, to use Firefox or Maxthon or Opera browser and get into my emails that way, not having to use the Google app for Gmail! I presume we could also have other apps to replace Google chat (presumably through Firefox in Gmail?) and so on and so forth. Really, I do not need Google's maps, when we have Open Street app and so on and on and on.
So, does this ROM exist, please? No Google/corporate/commercial stuff in it, that is...
And if not, has the time arrived? It is Linux, after all...
Would it be possible to make something like that?
Many thanx, again!
P.S. I recently bought a SuperPad tablet and I wonder if there are custom built ROMs/OSs for those, as well? Anyone knows, please?
Well of course any Rom without the Google apps.
Your principles on data collection went out the window when you first used the internet.
I disagree... respectfully, of course...
For instance, see BBC website for the "right to be forgotten" EU proposal on data collection/storage/handling... However, no such battle can ever be completely lost or won - they keep going on...
As a newby I have a problem with posting links but... let me try:
Code:
bbc co uk / news / technology-16677370
My Q was also re. full functionality without Google stuff - some ROM authors warn that their ROMs can't function properly unless we flash the Google stuff immediately after ROM itself... Any clarification, please?

its not to do with they cant function properly (they can) its just the fact that play store is "google" and u also need a gmail account. correct me if im wrong. Soo like dethrat says,.... its about gapps. (more or less).
It's not a matter of me thinking this is/you're wrong (on this one). I think/hope, that you are also hoping that I am right... Am I right?
You have a point, in a way, since it started in this manner with credit cards (easily done but also easily circumvented) and onwards but...
Look, ever tried Flipboard? I mean, if you are neglecting the examples I already wrote about... Check it and compare with Google Currents, please... Simply flipboard dot com... Need I say more?
On the level of principles: we do not need to be tethered/electronically tagged and under constant "surveillance" by Google or any other corporation or even the state, for that matter... Don't you think this is kinda worth at least trying? No offence intended to anyone(!) but I think this is the adult thing to do...
Well, this is what I am looking forward to nowadays... So, do you think that, for instance, a developer of Paranoid Android could make it all work with "alternative" apps, please? An effective "Ads Blocker" and kinda "No Script" apps included, of course. Maybe even - in this sense - "cleaned up" crucial apps, too... If "Anonymous" were really serious and competent (intellectually, professionally and morally), maybe they should get on it right away, eh?
I mean, if I ever requested anything from anyone on these boards, this would be it - an AIO OS without corporate [email protected]#. And I have a feeling that a fair few of us might keep trying this sort of thing out...:good:
Code:
bbc dot co dot uk / news / science-environment-21923360
Any more info on my question, please? Anyone with some experience?
Cheers!
So, the great WoH tells me that it is possible to use his ROM without the G-stuff, that is "Gapps" - and that everything should work just fine! And I am very grateful for this possibility! I only need to "skip the step with the gapps", he says.
Then, one proceeds with "3rd party app stores" like Amazon, GetJar, Fireplace and Yandex.Store. I presume there is an included browser in the ROM without the Gapps, so I start it and go to one of those sites, get their gadget and simply install from there, the free stuff... hopefully not having to log in with my Gmail account...
My problem, though, lies here in this thread - setting up PDroid. That's for seriously enhanced privacy/security! In the thread's "how to" there seem to be some discrepancies with the newer versions of PDroid... Really not sure how to do it, what exactly must be done, with which files... And I can't post in that section, to ask questions... Like "Where is the apk you mention in the top post?" and "What exactly are the steps?"
So, I must prepare by reading a lot, testing it and then redoing it, from scratch, i.e. flash the ROM again, as WoH described in his thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2131790
My hope would be that he includes the PDroid patch/apps - if at all possible - in the next edition of his awesome ROM!
Also, I would dearly love to see and test a ROM with all the best alternative apps, links to a few of the best 3rd party apps stores, tools etc. - but no G-c#@p (or almost no G-c#@p)... at least as much as humanly possible...
Here is a sketch:
3rd party apps stores,
keyboard and speech apps,
a couple of browsers (Firefox/Opera, maybe),
a few tools to manage the phone and set it up properly (Advanced Task Killer, Android Manager and alike),
best audio-visually capable Gtalk app and Skype for chat,
some non-demanding but good protection (Avast suite?),
Flipboard for news,
Adobe Reader, Kindle and Aldiko for reading,
MX and Meridian players for multimedia stuff,
Flash,
camera and videocam apps(?),
audio, video and photo editing SW,
Sopcast (TV channels) and "1Channel for Google" for audio-video streaming from the net,
...and so on,,, everybody continuing to fill it up according to their preferences, of course... all freeware/gratis!!!
Perhaps call it an "Alternative apps pack"???
So, maybe: when apps2sd card tool has been installed, we flash the "Alternative apps pack"... and it all goes to an SD card?
I think this might be a very cool idea, for many of us...
Go WoH and co.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :good:

Need help bypassing "can't take screenshot due to security policy"

Hello. I am using a Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G, Model SM-G986U
Android Version 11
Kernel version 4.19.113-20290031
Build number RP1A.200720.012.G986USQS1CTL1
I did both a Google search and a search using the xda-forum search bar.
First off: Kudos to whoever worked on the forum search feature. It is infinitely better today than it was years ago.
Unfortunately, while the question I have has been asked several times, it looks like no clear answer is given to any of the inquirers.
I would like to be able to bypass or override whatever flag or feature it is that lets app developers disallow users to take screenshots. I would like to be able to take screenshots in apps like Microsoft Teams (and a few other apps), even when the organization has chosen not to permit it. This is something I need to do for work. I can take screenshots in Teams just fine from a Windows PC regardless of policy. I am trusting there exists some method of doing the same from an android device.
What I would not like to do is have a discussion about the merits of enabling or disabling this security feature. Some of the previous users that have inquired were met with discussion about the wisdom of their decision instead of answering their questions directly. This time, I'd like for replies to assume that my mind is already made up and that it isn't changing. If this is something that simply cannot be done, I can accept that answer. Though I don't readily believe it. I believe that just like with a PC, there exists some method of capturing all data sent to the phone, regardless of the sender's intention.
Thank you.
Try any third party app to capture what is on screen, I think you can't do it with stock method of taking screenshot. From android 7 or 8 , they introduced new Methods to not to capture what is available on screen so that any hackers can't capture our passwords using banking apps. I think ms have implemented same strategy. So you can't do it until you have root permissions
I am 100% willing to root the device if necessary, but do want some confirmation beforehand that rooting it will enable me to screen capture from whatever app I want.

Thank you.

My simple reply,, is when I got that security
policy violation I was either A) trying to capture a
Kodak moment of my current bank balance in hopes of an securing an outcome, that while only temporary was nonetheless a mutually desired and shared experience with a member of the opposite gender, also, FLAGGED AS GOOD TO GO, or, MAJORLY way less interesting, B) the never to miss a trick bastards just don't want me swiping an awesome wallpaper idea right from under their greedy noses! Dammit man, I'll always choose A)..habit, I guess? lol
'back in the day' i've used smalipatcher.
This disables the security flag completely.
Not sure if it works with android 11.
Requires root.
Easiest way; You could also mirror the screen to your pc, and make screenshots from your pc.
