[Q] Power button broken. Need to change batteries while out! - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Basically the power button on my rooted Xperia Play has lost all function as a button. The LEDs still work, but pressing/holding it does nothing regardless of the phone's state.
I used Button Remapper to set the Search button to act as the Power button (locking the screen, power off etc.) however this only works when the phone is on.
I'm in a situation where I will be using my phone for long periods of time away from any computers/chargers, so I have some spare batteries for this occasion.
The problem now is that should I need to change the battery while out, there's no way for me to turn it back on after doing so!
I was wondering if there were any tricks to circumvent the power button when the phone is off?
e.g. other button combinations, change battery during reboot, delay reboot (command/app)
please note: I wouldn't want to (and probably couldn't) go in and try to fix it manually, I don't want to risk breaking anything!
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I woke up this morning and when I took my cellphone i realized that my power button doesn't work anymore
i've did the same things you did. and any help i get i will post here :good:

Sucks, doesn't it mate -_-
I've had no luck or replies from the community yet.
Maybe posting this in a section of the forum with a larger user base would be an idea?

Need some serious help PLEASE

Hi.
My power button broke off and I was not able to soder it and so now I can't turn it off or on. I have a app that will do this for me but what I really need is to put my xda IIs in BOATLOADER without the need to press, power, record button and soft reset. So I'm asking if anyone knows a way for me to do this without the power button. I have searched and seearched and I really need some help here. I'm running WM5 but I am having problems with the backlight and camera and some of my paid software that will not work. So I want to downgrade to the original rom.
I will be watching this post every hour or so, your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
that happened to mine, do you want to just like hard resest your device? THe only way is probable to take your battery out and let the internal battery drain!
I took my phone to my local phone repair shop and they charged £15 to it, apparently it was really difficult to do!
Thanks for the reply andy! I thought this forum was way better than this in helping people out. I appreciate your response. I do know how to give it a hard reset by pressing the camera and record button as I do a soft reset. But what I am trying to do is to get my xda to the bootloader position so I can go back to windows 2003se. From what I have read you can only do that by pressing the power button and the other buttons I wrote above. I have no power button so I'm trying to find out another way to roll back to windows 2003se.
If anyone knows please let me know.
Thanks again.
In the magician shipped-roms there's an executable to do this, maybe for your device too? If there's one you'll recognize it at once, just execute & its gone into Bootloader.
Regards, M
I looked and there is none in my ppc. I also copied that file over from a download I found here and it does not do anything. So far I have the WM5 running pretty fast, faster than ever! I just can't get the backlight to work and the camera. Tried every file and nothing gets this fixed. So I have to use my xda with the backlight in full brightness.
Btw, there is a way to hard reset the device so that it will run really fast. I probably will start another thread showing the steps, I think it is so worth doing it cause my xda now movew really quick.
Thanks for all the help!

HTC Wildfire blank screen

Hi,
I'm sorry if this has already been answered I just can't find it.
My Wildfire's screen froze a couple of times, then the last time I removed the battery and reinserted it.
When I tried to power back up I got the vibrate but nothing on the screen, so I repeated a couple of times with no luck.
I then tried the Hboot method (Hold vol - and power) and I got the Hboot on, but when I tried to navigate using the volume buttons nothing happened, so removed battery and tried to repeat, I couldn't get back to Hboot. I have only been able to get the Hboot screen that one time.
When I power up, I get 1 vibrate and nothing on screen.
When I hold volume + and power button, I get three vibrates and the green light comes on.
When I hold volume - and power I don't get any vibrates, unless I remove the volume - then the power button but still only one vibrate.
I've tried installing the CyanogenMod but no luck.
Is there anything that can be done to save my Wildfire?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Seems like you're in Qualcomm Diagnostic mode. Though I don't remember the solution, some Googling might help

Any help please
I've tried the method stated on this forum but with no luck.
Does anyone have a suggestion?
Thanks!
--- EDIT ---
So you wrote your question again in the "Wildfire S" (Marvel) Forums - in this case the much more important question would be: what phone are you talking about? A Wildfire (Buzz) or a "Wildfire S" (Marvel). Despite the name those have almost nothing in common - they are totally different devices
--- EDIT ---
I'll answer in this thread although you opened another one in Q&A.
You haven't been too specific with your problem but sometimes it helps to have all the details
So here we go:
a) did the phone work correct (besides the freezes) before you took out the battery?
b) is your WF rooted & s-off?
c) which ROM?
d)
When I hold volume + and power button, I get three vibrates and the green light comes on
Click to collapse
does this happen when connected to PC or charger or not
e)
When I hold volume - and power I don't get any vibrates, unless I remove the volume

did you hold both at least 5-10 secs or so?
f)
I've tried installing the CyanogenMod but no luck

you mean after your problem occured? How did you do that?
Believe me: the more details you provide the more likely someone might have a solution or at least an idea what's going on
OK, sorry for the lack of info!
My phone is a Wildfire, not a WildfireS.
A: Yes, was working.
B: No, never needed to.
C: Not sure, never kept a record of it. It's one of the first models though if that helps.
D: This happens without USB cord attached. When the USB cord is attached I pull the battery and the green light stays on.
E: Yes, I've tried this for over 10secs before.
F: Yes, after blank screen. I installed on SD card and followed the directions. Bare in mind, I cant set Debug or the charge only setting.
Thanks!

That's what I thought. In this case you won't be able to flash any other ROM - you could just do the usual upgrades by HTC
This doesn't sound to me to be a minor problem (but probably someone else might correct me here) - nevertheless - just to make sure: have you tried to do a hard factory reset following the HTC user guide?
- With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button (instead of holding it)
if this boots your phone up:
- Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button.
- Press VOLUME DOWN to select CLEAR STORAGE, and then press POWER.
- Press VOLUME UP to start the factory reset
(errm and yes: this will delete all your user data, of course...)

But I assume you have done that anyway - did you try to connect your phone to the PC (HTC drivers installed, of course)?
How about charging - does the phone seem to behave normal - i.e. if you keep it from charging for a few hrs does it show the red LED for charging mode and the green one for being fully charged?
That's pretty much all I could suggest from scratch. - Hopefully someone else with a good idea will step in here :fingers-crossed:
OK, still have the Wildfire with the annoying blank screen.
Does anyone have any suggestions on a fix?
Thanks!

besides the suggestion of the Qualcomm diagnostic mode (no I don't know anything about that): did you try to power up without the sdcard, yet?
Furthermore I slightly remember that you could do a factory reset using a key combination - but I'm not sure about it.
Same goes for a RUU. Are you able to connect to the phone with the PC?
Really just random guessing - hard if no error messages appear...
Yes, tried with the SD card.
Because I can't see the screen I tried it loads of times, all with different combinations.
I can't get any vibrate from volume down + long hold power.
I will only get a vibrate from volume down + short hold power.
What would be ideal if there's a way to use ODIN PC to flash a new ROM, well that's what I think it is, faulty ROM?
Thanks!

really hard to say as there's not a little information what's going on. What if just the screen is dead? have you tried to wait after boot and insert your pin after a while (I mean try to guess where the numbers might be) and call your number?
Why anyone want's to use ODIN on non-samsung?!
ODIN is purely just for SAMSUNG products
If you have warranty.. put it to service centre.. they will fix it
Need hard reset power off your phone press volume DOWN and power. YOU WILL FIX IT EASYLI.

Hey there!
I'm bumping this because I have the same problem and creating a new thread seemed more bad to me.
Anyway, I'll start from the beginning.
I found out my battery was swollen 5 days ago. It's probably because of my charging habits. My battery life have shortened everyday this 5 days. Yesterday morning I wiped my battery stats to get a better battery life. When I was back home my phone's battery has depleted while I was listening to music.
I came to home, plugged my phone to charge and waited 15 mins to get it charged a bit to open. When I tried to open it, it vibrated but the "green htc text on white background" screen didn't come up. The screen wasn't working. I tried what is said before in this tried. Once I got managed to see the bootloader but the volume keys weren't working (as above) After some moments of rage, my brother offered to test the touch, I opened the phone, (as I dont have a PIN) we waited for some minutes and then he called me. I mimiced the answering gestured and boom, I could talk with my brother.
I bought a new screen as I think screen is broken. But it could be because mainboards screen part is damaged (probably because of my faulty battery, voltage wavings etc.) or something completely different.
Please guys help me. I can't buy a new phone atm so I have to fix this

Ouch sounds like a rough one :/ OK so you have no visual, but do have touch and audio? Are you s-off or s-on? You could try to "blind feed" the rom.zip of a ruu to the bootloader to try restore it. But it may well be that your battery has killed the screen. Have you ordered a new battery?

I'm S-OFF. I had it written in my old sig.
I too think that it was the battery that killed the screen. Ordered both a screen and a battery but they won't be coming before 20 days at least. Damn you China, why you have to be that far.
Anyhoo, I can't get to the bootloader anymore. Or I think I can't get it. I once managed to get it but volume buttons weren't working. After that in every try I couln't see the bootloader screen. But you're right. When I can't see the bootloader, it doesn't mean I don't get the screen. I could do it with a fellow's help. But only after a few days. I'm getting a surgery in 10 hours. Can't really care about my phone right now

Verizon G3 won't power up

Hey there. Hoping someone can help me out here. Long time lurker, and I used the search button, but similar threads did not help me out...
I was out and about yesterday, phone was fully charged, and working just fine. I had used my phone and place it back into my pocket. A couple hours later, I pull the phone out to check the time, and it won't turn on. I assumed the phone had shut itself off like it has in the past randomly. So I press and held the power button. Nothing comes on at all. Screen does not turn on, there is no boot sequence, no LED light, NOTHING. I proceeded to remove the battery and replace it, still no power. I press and held the power and volume down, NOTHING. I read on here about removing the battery and holding the power button for 15 seconds to clear any power in the phone, put the battery back in and on the stock charger for 15 minutes, then trying to power the phone up. NOTHING. I took the phone to Verizon, and they were no help, they could not power the phone up either. We even tried a different battery. I am not awaiting a refurbished phone... only problem is I have loads of pictures saved to the phone (I don't use an SD card).
I am creating this to reach out and see if any of you know of a method I can try to get this phone to begin working?
At the very least, I would like to pull the pictures and files I have downloaded onto the phone... and I am really hoping that there is a way! (I have my serious doubts since the phone doesn't power up... but still I want to ask).
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
And thanks in advance for anything that may be provided!
Two options I would try:
-leave the phone plugged in a whole night/day (original charger)
-try a spare battery (if you didn't already)
-clean all contacts
Definitely try leaving it plugged in for a while. Also, have you tried hooking it up to your PC? Does the computer recognize the device?

Hi all, stumbled upon this thread while google searching. I'm also having similar problem as op. one moment the phone was working, next moment cant power it on no matter what buttons I press.
To answer this question, at least for me, when I hook it up to my PC it just shows QHSUSB_BULK, which according to my research means its been hard bricked.
I'm probably going to send it in for repairs

Idk. its odd. I fired off a text message, placed it face down on the table. Came back 5 mins later to check it and it wouldn't work.
The only thing I did was root the phone, and did very minor tinkering like use xposed framework. Didn't flash a rom or anything.

Wow, that's terrible. What module? I know messaging with the build prop can are you up, but I've been tinkering with various Xposed mods for a while and never had an issue. And I'd think if it was a bad module you'd have seen the issue immediately, not after a random text message. That's just bizarre.

Find 7 (Big problem / glad if someone could help)

So hello community !
I have an OPPO Find 7 device, and I love, but happens that I have some problem with it, let me explain it best I can
It turns out that I simply cant Power ON the device, no matter what I try, no matter what combinations of key I am using or so. Let me explain better.
As I was using one day my phone standard it happened the lock/power key doesn't respond every time I press it, and it was so, sometimes the phone reacted to the button some times didn't. One day I had the device, and forgot to charge it, and it went completely off, so I can't even boot it up. Went to an mobile center, where they repair mobiles or so, it is small place, I explained them what is the problem, they told me it is the button power supply or so, and fixed it. That was nice, finally I had my OPPO again. After 2 or 3 weeks, again the same problem with the button didn't responded and I again took it with me and gave it to the person that fixed it the first time. They said the it is kinda complicated or so, I took it to other place to see if they could fixed it, they told me it is the POWER SUPPLY to the POWER/LOCK key. It is a waste this phone to throw it in garbage because one maybe small problem if you ask me .
Hopefully someone will see this and reply to me, I still have the phone just cant power it on.
P.S The battery is fine, the charger is fine, tried every combinations of key (just the power key doesn't seem to reply in any way or it cant get power supply). I have some minor knowledge in phone's I can tear it down but I need help or maybe solutions from you guys. Thanks again !
Still no-one that can help me maybe somehow

Hi, do you still have this issue?
Did you just upgrade your phone before this happen?
Yes I still have this issue, I didn't upgrade my phone before this issue. I don't think it is an software error tho....
Got my phone still sitting in my shale
I was facing similar problem, but in my case I cannot charge the phone, and it turn out to be software problem during upgrade.
I went to oppo service center and they re-flash with the latest ColorOS then my phone back to normal.
I thought if you just upgrade your phone, you might face same issue like what I was. Or maybe you can try to go to oppo service center?
Try this. http://community.oppo.com/en/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=23067
If its software related this will fix it. If it doesnt I dont know anymore.

[Q] Xperia X5 Premium Buttons and Vibrator Problem (?)

Hello,
Suddenly (while i was holding my phone in my hand and doing absolutely nothing) power button, volume buttons, camera button and vibrator stopped working. Screen and other functions are fine.
I rebooted using ADB.
Factory resetted.
No results.
Is there any way I can resolve this before sending it to Sony service?

You can try to press the back cover of the phone somewhere in the middle betwen NFC sign and SONY logo, because that is aproximately the place where connector for that buttons is...not logical, but it might be disconected somehow
