What Tmobile Plan to get for Use on ATT? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I want to buy in the Tmobile store and come home, get an Unlock code and use my phone on ATT.
The phone is $708 at TMO + Tax.
How do I get out as cheap as possible?
The store says I need to buy a month of service when I called them. At like $70
I haven't been with TMO for like 10 years and their website is un-navigable for me.
EDIT: added 10/1/2013
I wallked out of TMO for $771 today.
$708 + TAX(6.5%) + $10 activation + $10 minimum Pay as you go acct
Even after confirming this on the phone they tried to put the bite on me for another $50 for a plan. I argued the price I got on the phone and they relented. If you call TMO by phone they do they exact same thing and relent the same. It's very much like a car dealership in how they work.
Waiting for my $6 unlock code presently, we'll see how that works out.

Cheapest TMobile plan is the $50.00 with unlimited calls, texts and 500mb of data.
Ian B

Cheapest plan they put me on and I do not remember the name but the dollar amount on the invoice was 10 + 30 dollars whatever they meant.

OK, after some goofing around with the local store on the phone, I got the straight answer
$708 + Tax(6.5% for moi) + $10 SIM + $10 Pay as You Go Plan (100 minutes) + Unlocking fee
I am going to do the retail price in the store rather than Swappa or Ebay because this phone has a high chance of needing warranty service even if I don't molest it.
People are getting bootloops from the freakin' play store FFS!

So the store clerk robbed me then. He said he was trying to get me the lowest paid plan obviously was only looking at pre paid plans and not jump. Under normal circumastances I would return my phone and get my money back and try again. However I do not want to end up with Note with a loose Home button or one that gets warm. I am sticking with this one. thanks anyways.

I bought a unlock code from cellunlocker and unlocked it without any activation on T-Mobile previously. I also bought the phone brand new and broke the seal on the box as I went to unlock it.

It really does work, it just puts you in contact with someone who wants to take over your contract. You don't have to go through them once you have someone to take it over, it can all be done through sprint.
But wait a moment. If you sell your cellphone like the HTC Evo for 500 on Ebay you can cancel for 200 bucks and still get 300 bucks extra minus Ebay fees and such but you get 250 still so yeah. Thats silly.
Yes this website does work, I used it to get onto someone's sero plan. Also sprint annually makes changes to their contract sometime after new years. Which allows you to get out off contract
Contract transfers are very common. Go on Craigslist and see how many people are trying to get somebody to take over their Clearwire account. That's how I got out of my contract with that joke of a service provider.

ok let me get this straight
For $20 I can sell my contract to someone else,i don't have to pay the $200 eft, my name is no longer on that contract and I get to keep my evo!? Sounds too good to be true.

And what good is your Evo without a contract? Can use it on any one else's service can you? Verizon is different frequency? (or will it work?) But they are pricey anyway.
Dang I should have sold my unlimited AT&T account!!! I actually joked about that cause it was a great idea and whomever would not have had to do the limited plans. (with 1500 rollovers too!!!)

Unless you know somebody at Verizon that can get you in, they won't activate it. Some people say you can use some of the smaller providers, but that will vary. But, hey, you can use it for everything else besides phone and data. Like... camera?

Good to know, thanks mrono, curious what contract terms you selected, were you able to get deeper discounts as a Get In member or does Sprint verify any discount eligibility post transfer?
I did it with US Cellular, actually the salesman suggested it. I transferred my account to my baby mamas name and she got to use my phone ( she wanted my blackberry but didn't want to pay for one) it was a win win for me.
I have a free way:
Found this out by accident with at&t and recently did it twice more through verizon. Look at their coverage map ahead of time and find an area a good distance away that has zero coverage. Find a street in the town where the void is located. Get your story straight ahead of time. The first time I really did move into a spot that had no coverage. The other times I wanted out I just made up an excuse that I was moving due to work. Ask them if there is coverage. They will check and tell you no. Act disappointed and ask what your options are then. They will let you close your account with no ETF. Downside is you won't be able to port over your number though.
this site has been around for a while so it's definitely legit. There are usually a number of SERO accounts up on it. Only downside is you lose your number if you care about that. Sometimes it seems like I'm the only one attached to my cell phone number.
I was thinking of doing this to move from AT&T to T-Mobile but I wasn't sure what would happen to the contracts on the 3 lines of my family plan. I was told that I could transfer each line on my family plan separately to 3 different people.
The AT&T rep told me that after I transfered my accounts, each person taking over the line would have a month-to-month with no contract and could cancel at any time without paying an ETF. This sounded completely wrong to me so I called back later and a different rep told me the same thing.
I was sure the person taking over my account would be committed to the remainder of my original contract. Does it make any sense to anyone that they'd be able to cancel immediately without paying an ETF? Could it have something to do with how long I've been with AT&T or that I have a business premiere account?
Thanks,
Alan
P.S. Oops, sorry I just realized I posted this in a forum for a phone that's not on AT&T. Would still appreciate any info anyone has, thanks.

It's not going to make the phone cheaper. They would just split the $200 up over 24 months and end up being the same price.

Contracts are gone. It's all month-to-month. So they are saying the phone costs $0 to walk out of the store, pending credit check, and they'll bill you $20 per month until the phone is paid in full.

WHole point of being eligable for the jump program brotha.. il dbl check tommorow, but i went today and from my understanding, thats how it works.. ur basically leasing/renting the phone. U can either decide to keep the phone and pay the rest off. Or decide to get a new one. With technologies always upgrading to the yearly. People want the latest and greatest tmo jump and att next provide that. Unfortunately for me ive never had my phones for more than 6 months. Coming from the s3 > note 2 > s4 changed my phone every 6-7 months don't know why. And thats before the jump program.....

Unfortunately, it looks like an adjustment of monthly payment. The grand total stays the same.

That is exactly how it works. Upgrades every 6 months, but you have to return the phone you used. The Jump program also included free insurance which not only covers damage, but also lost and stolen.
This is really great on the jump! program. If you trade it in at 6 months, they are forgiving $531 dollars owed.
The 0 Down promotion is real.
Old pricing
Well qualified credit- 199 down 21/month
Lesser qualified - 350 down 14.70/month
PROMO PRICING
Well qualified- 0 down 29.29/month
Lesser qualified- 360 down 14.29/month
Prepaid plans- full 703 up front
You can upgrade again anytime after 6 months if you have jump, so theoretically after 1 year when note 4 comes out you.will have paid 348 in payments. T-Mobile, upon you trading in your note 3 , will wipe out the remaining 355 that you have left to.pay on your phone ( depending on condition of phone, has to turn on,no broken screen, no water damage etc) and then you can start fresh with new down payment and monthly payments for your note 4.

I don't see any benifit in doing Jump if you're going to keep it for a year. Your math is a little off by the way.
29.29 × 12 months = $351.48
$ 10/month in Jump x 12 = $120
Don't forget you have to pay tax for the device, thats around $55 (depends on your location)
351.48 + 120 + 55 = 526.48 total you paid in a year.
If you traded in your device, you get nothing back. If you paid $704 up front or doing 199 down, You can sell the phone for at least $350.
750-350 = 400 total paid in a year. ( if paid 704 + around $55 tax up front)

JUMP! and the $0 down Note 3

I have 2 lines that I put the $0 Down Note 3's on. Both lines have JUMP!
From my understanding after speaking to a rep is; I will have paid the following up until my 6 month upgrade date.
JUMP: $60.00
6 Month EIP: $177.00
Initial tax: $58.76
Total spent at time of 6 month upgrade: $295.76
For me, I don't count the $60.00 spent on JUMP! I only count a small amount since I would spend $8.00 dollars a month on the insurance anyway. So $2.00 a month for JUMP! Brings my total to $247.76
Also, if you want to go with the Nexus 5 straight from Google or any non financed phone in 6 months, you don't have to upgrade, you can just turn your phone in which will eliminate future EIP payments.
$766.00 - 247.76 = $518.24 remaining balance. At 6 months I might be able to get that much selling the Note 3 on the open market depending on the Android market.
To me it's a no brainer going with the Note 3 at 0 down as it leaves me with decent options at 6 months. I'll probably be bored with the N3 at about that time if not a little earlier.
Did anyone else go for or reject the $0 down Note 3 with JUMP? And why?
No you're reasoning is pretty good. Little to no benefit in paying full and selling yourself unless you want to upgrade earlier then 6 months.
Also remember that the tax is not included in EIP and although you're paying the tax, it's not part of the balance on the phone. Technically, the balance that will be wiped with JUMP is $531 ($708-$177).
Decided not to go with JUMP because I wouldn't pay for insurance anyways.
After CA tax, 6 months of jump would cost me $300.
Given that I can get the phone from Negri for $650~
I can sell the phone after a whole year for $350~

I don't doubt it. Just for me not by enough to bother. Then again I upgrade more often then 6 months so I sell myself every time as well. If I lasted the 6 months though I would just hand it in personally and I take the $0 down so I have the choice

same conclusion here.
I ended up doing JUMP as well. I get insurance on my phone plus I can get a new phone every 6 months. I'll most likely get a new phone every year but it's still nice to know that I'm not locked into one phone for 2 years like I have been in the past. I know a lot of review sites hate JUMP, but they all seem to leave out that it also include insurance for your phone.
I ended up going with Jump as well since it seems my cost analyst shows the 6 month mark being the most advantageous time to move on or stick it out until 11-13 months.
Prepaid is the $30/month plan with full cost out of pocket up front.
$0 down - Plan A is the standard $50 plan with 2.5G data + Jump. No taxes included.
$0 down - Plan B is the same plan WITHOUT the Jump. No taxes included.
Market value is the expected private party sale price over time and is based on historical S3, S4, and Note 2 data.
The TMO payoff is just that as time goes on.
You mileage may vary...

If you upgrade your phone every 6 months, jump works but if you plan on holding it a year, I don't think its a good deal, at the 12 month mark you will pay $474 for the Note 3 yet turn it in for free and who knows if T-Mobile will have these zero down deals in 12 months or even in 6 months because if they get rid of the zero down deals it completely kills the deal!
^^perhaps, but if you would even consider paying for insurance without jump, then what is the extra $2/month really costing you? I'll gladly pay $24/year on the chance that I might want to trade my phone in at any point after 6 months.
Can you explain more about this JUMP 6months trade in thingy? Is there any catches?

Only catch is your phone has to be in decent condition without water damage I think.

I put 180 down
I did not qualify for 0 down because I have had no phone credit history (used metro pcs for the better part of my cell phone life)
Even though I have killer credit, but oh well. Jump is worth it if you want insurance. Verizon makes you pay for insurance on top of their jump like program.
I am not interested in buying a 700 dollar phone and not putting some sort of insurance on it. I have known too many people that have made that mistake. Surely it is a scam if you never use it, but phones drop and you gotta insure that
I plan on upgrading after a year to the note 4 or whatever seems good at the time. I am not willing to jump after 6 months.

This is correct. If it does have damage then you have to put an extra 60 or so towards the new phone to fix the old one
Agreed. Jump is easy to decide if you get insurance anyway.
Getting jump on a popular phone like the Note 3 is a sucker's move for the simple fact you can sell it outright and probably get more than what the balance remaining would be.
Jump for my situation worked out better because I ended up getting the LG G2 with no money down and who knows what that'll be worth after six month so I like the option to be able to trade it in and have that balance wiped out.
But if I had the Note 3, I would pass on jump

I agree with the resale value argument. So it still comes down to the insurance for me. A $700 galaxy note should hold its value, but it's also expensive enough that I feel it must be insured. And that makes jump a no-brainer. Without insurance, I'd want a super tough, nuclear blast type case for it and this phone is big enough.

Think you can get $530 for it used? after 6 months? Cash? Cause thats what tmobile will give you? With no deposit anyway. No deposit makes Jump very worthwhile to me.
I went with jump and zero down. The rep told me you can't use the installment plan without Jump.

N900t for Straight Talk

I would like to buy Note 3 n900t unlocked version so as to use it with Straight Talk carrier (using AT&T towers) on LTE data speed.
Will it work?
Or perhaps I should buy n900a version? Unlocked? Or not unlocked is ok?
The main issue for me is to get LTE data speeds.
Thanks!

It will work on Straight Talk AT&T. Just make sure you get the Micro SIM card so it fits. All you'll have to do is input the correct APN info after you sign up for the service. I had to switch to Straight Talk after I got scammed on Swappa. The service in NYC is not so great. I actually decided that it wasn't worth it to pay $50 for what I was getting, so now I'm just using my Note 3 like a tablet.
I hope it their service is better for you/in your area.

Well, either (N900A/N900T) would work on Straight Talk. You will probably have an easier time finding an unlocked T-Mobile version though. And whatever you do, make sure you protect yourself. Plenty of people have been scammed when trying to buy unlocked Note 3s.

Really, I would have thought the way AT&T locks down their devices there would be less of them floating around.
I got scammed on Swappa. So did other people apparently (via Swappa and Craigslist). Basically I bought my T-Mobile Note 3 on Swappa from a person with a perfect rating who assured me that the phone was not on EIP/stolen. Turns out is was and he wasn't paying, so T-Mobile blocked it. Swappa and Paypal were useless in resolving the issue. You can read the thread here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2605960
Boy did I learn a valuable lesson. My last 6 phones were bought either on Ebay, Craigslist or Swappa. No more. My next phone is coming direct from T-Mobile or the manufacturer. It's not worth $100 in savings to deal with getting scammed.

Oh yeah, but it is how it is on eBay at the moment.
Well the scam you described sounds seriously.... I'm going to buy my phone on ebay and buyer accepts 14 days hassle-free returns.... will it be enough to verify it's not stolen etc.?

Even if the seller on Ebay has good reviews, I would still be very cautious. The way these scams work. it can take weeks or months for the device to show up as being non-payment in the carrier's system (or the person can just wait to report it lost or stolen). I bought my Note 3 from Swappa in November and it wasn't blocked until late January. If you do some searching, you might find some threads that help you stay safe, and tell you how to reduce the risk of getting scammed when using Ebay, but for me the risk is too high now. Once you get burned, it just sucks balls and you never want it to happen again.

Yeah, I thought about it, and still might. But I will lose money if I sell now, so that's why I want to wait a bit until at least I can get my next phone. By the time i'm ready to sell it, the price won't be different than if it weren't blocked anyway. By September, when Samsung releases the next Note, all Note 3s will be selling for 350-400.

Well yeah, probably you're right.
I just bought mine n900a for 475$.
But Note 4 would cost no less than 800-900$ I guess, especially in the beginning.
Got my N900T for $350 last week from a guy off Craigslist, only has some scuffs on the sides that you can't see with my case. I had to pay to carrier unlock mine since it was on 4.4.2 tw. Slapped carbon on it and it was running fine on hspa+. I've been on Straight talk for about a year now. Ordered an LTE Sim the other day and got free next day shipping. Literally took me five minutes to get LTE up and running. And it is beautiful.

Most of the time the scammers will wait for the dispute period to end with paypal, which is 45 days, and then leave you high and dry.
1. Buy direct from t-mobile if you can.
2. If you are buying from a local person/craigslist, meet at a T-mobile store and ask an agent to check that it is free and clear with no outstanding payments due. Most of the time if the person is not trustworthy they will not meet you at T-mobile.
If the phone is blocked no amount of begging or pleading will get T-mobile to unblock it. It has been tried over and over and they will not allow you to pay any unpaid balance. The only one who can do it is the scammer who is long gone at that point.

Anyone upgrade and keep the UDP?

Has anyone successfully tried 'upgrade' or '2 year service plan' to get their Note7 for less than retail and get to keep Verizon's UDP?
My Note4's 2 year contract is up in October. I don't mind waiting if it means that I can get Note7 from BestBuy, Amazon or whoever for the $300 with 2 year contract, as long as I get to keep my UDP.
If however all the loopholes, and tricks are gone, and I'm forced to pay full retail for it, then I might as well get the phone now and not wait another 2 months.
As you know, the UDP (Unlimited Data Plan) is near and dear to those of us that still have it and I don't want to chance losing it.

I still have UDP, upgraded from a Note 5. The key is to have a 2nd line to transfer your upgrade to, and then don't actually activate the phone but transfer over your SIM. I always transfer the upgrades from my line to my wife's line, and when I get a new phone for me I put her SIM in the phone first to boot it up and then put my SIM in after Verizon sees the phone.

If your UDP has already increased from 29.99 to 49.99, you can do the upgrade on Device Payment and keep your unlimited data. If you do a 2 year contract on that line, you WILL lose your unlimited data. Only way to do it without paying full price all at once or adding another line.

To clarify/ verify: Even if a plan has increased to $49.99 you have to do the monthly device payment? You can't purchase the device for $300 outright?

$300 is not the outright price. The outright price is going to be $870. $300 would be the 2 year price. You don't HAVE to do the monthly device payment. You can purchase the device outright. But, if you don't have $900 to drop up front for the phone, the device payment is the way to go. It's the only way to get the phone for very little up front and not lose your UDP. It ends up being like $36 a month on the device payment.

I should have clarified $300, outright, as a device upgrade, if eligible. Verizon is running a scam at this point if they think they can increase UDP to $49 and not provide 2 year upgrades, IMO.
You can do the 2 year upgrade for $300. You will lose your unlimited data though. Just do the device payment. You don't have to add a line, and you'll only have to pay like $60 up front. They're trying to not do 2 year upgrades for anyone though. The idea is to move everyone, including businesses, to device payment. So with that line of thinking, it makes sense that they wouldn't want to continue offering subsidized phone pricing for someone on a plan that they no longer offer, and haven't offered since 2011.
I just got the Note 7 on a 2 year price. Locked in my unlimited at $29.99 for another 2 years. Tons of loopholes. Some have had luck using the subsidized upgrade after they got the price hike.

I'm sure there are ways to get it done, but that is definitely not the norm. You should buy the rep that helped you a steak dinner, because they worked some magic.
Do you have a second line on your plan that you used to process the upgrade on? Because that is what most of those articles are referring to. The guy I've been responding to does not have a second line on his plan.

Yes. I have a basic line that I transferred the upgrade to. I have used all my upgrades and have been under contract with all of my unlimited lines. I don't involve reps.
Best thing for the OP to do is probably the best buy and sell. Order a subsidized phone from best buy and then sell it.
I have seen people that directly ordered phones from Verizon at the subsidized price and kept unlimited after they were hit with the price hike.
Sent from my SM-N930V using Tapatalk
Yea, I'm able to do it because i have another line on my plan with tiered data. We basically swap upgrades. I upgrade the tiered data line when its eligable and then move the new phone to my line by swapping sims. Then we I'm ready to upgrade the tiered data line I transfer my upgrade to it.
I preordered my note7 online for $299.00 and it let me keep my current unlimited data plan. I didn't do anything special other than order using my upgrade. Here is a screenshot of my current data plan..?

If you do the to your payment plan which is different than a two year contract you will be able to keep your unlimited data
You can buy a phone on best buy online to upgrade your contract for two year but make sure to sell the phone and destroy the sim card. Then you can use that cash to buy a phone full price. I just did that on 3 udp lines on my plan. That way they also cant upcharge for being out of contract and having udp.

Thanks for all replays.
So, what I'm reading is that since I only have the 1 line, there is no way for me to get the 'discounted' $300-ish Note7 (2 year contract or not) and keep my UDP.
Furthermore, my options are:
1. Pay retail $900
2. Pay ~$40/month over next 2 years (ends up being same $900-ish retail price over time)
3. Get 2nd line. Get Note7 on that, tied data plan. Swap phones.
I used to have 2nd line and did the phone swap thingy every year, but 2-3 years ago Verizon closed that loophole. Seems like the loophole may be open again, but by the time I get a 2nd line, and pay for data plan, I'm probably looking at at least $50 month. Over the 2 years, that would add up to $1,200, which is more than the retail price of the Note7, and by buying the phone outright I don't have to mess with line swapping, etc.
Does all that sound about right?

If you are out of contract you must be paying the $20 up-charge for UDP. To get back in contract you use that bestbuy method in that thread and sell the phone. If you use that method and use the phone on your line you will lose UDP. That why you have to destroy the sim card and sell the phone for cash. The bonus is you get cash and you get back in contract which you can use to tell verizon to take away that extra $20 a month. As far as I know this is the only and best way of doing it. Use that cash to help buy a note 7 at full price.
