Lets tell Otterbox we want it for this device. - Nexus 5 Accessories

Whether you want an Otterbox for this phone or now, take a minute for those who do and let Otterbox know you want their product for this device. If you have any suggestions on other ways to contact otterbox other than facebook and twitter let me know and I'll add a link to this post. Lets get some replies to keep this bumped or try to get this pinned.

They passed up the last Google flagship which had a glass back.

I was prepared to get an Otterbox for the N4 but they didn't budge. Not going to bother this time. Diztronic and Spigen makes great cases too.

screw otterbox. want an otterbox? buy an iphone. for some reason, otterbox just wont make cases for nexus devices. lol

They've had gases for the galaxy nexus, nexus s and nexus one. the only exception was the nexus 4

I faired very well with a Diztronic TPU case on my Nexus 4. I do not think it would be productive begging Otterbox for any consideration for the Nexus 5. They can obviously make their money elsewhere.

The people who need something as substantial as an otterbox won't be in the market for a tpu case. I wouldn't be in the market, but I would like to see otterbox and ballistic show support for the Nexus 5

Exactly. Personally I hate cases and love the feel of a naked phone but now that I'm off contract I'd like to protect every surface of my phone with a reputable product in order to maintain resale value since I don't make that much money being a student. Also the case itself will add some value once I sell to upgrade.
You don't have to want one but it can't hurt to take a minute to post on a fb or twitter for your fellow nexus lovers that do.

I hope Pelican makes a case for the Nexus 5. Very unlikely they will make one for it.

I would have preferred the Commuter for my Nexus 4 and upcoming Nexus 5. Had great experiences on my Nokia N900 and Samsung Galaxy Nexus with that model.

I have a theory, Otterbox probably has good sales in carrier stores. Looking through the phones they support I see a lot of Verizon...
I think that's the only reason they supported the G-nexus. With multiple carrier releases with this one I think n5 has a better chance than n4 did.

iPhones = sell 20 million devices (probably a lot more, actually) easily, and a metric frakton of Otterboxes.
Nexus = sell a rather paltry number, no big sales except right when it first becomes available, no long term ecosphere behind it even in spite of it being a solid device, etc.
I mean really, go to any store, anywhere - Best Buy, Fry's, MicroCenter, Sears, hell even a 7-11 - and you'll find stuff for the iPhones but you won't find diddly Jack Squat for anything else. It's sad that this is how the world operates but, that's how the world operates.
Otterboxes are way overpriced anyway. I simply will not pay more than about $15 for a case ever again, just ain't going to do it and I don't care who makes it or what it's made of.
Having said that I'd pay a bit more for one made of a custom mix of Adamantium and Vibranium but since that ain't gonna happen either, oh well.

Gotta agree. And the names for materials used get more and more ridiculous too.
"Ballistic shock absorbent polymer" you mean..silicones?
Thanks for sharing though
I love this case for the nexus s. I want to buy a pair of them for both me and the wife. I have the extended battery GSM and hers is the normal GSM. I'm sure they made it specifically for the Verizon model but I'd like to see a review testing it on the various models. You would think it would work on the extended Verizon model. If so, it should fit. Just don't want to plunk down money on two cases and have it not fit.
By the way, these cases are awesome for the nexus s. My wife is very hard on her phones, and this thing delivers on protection. Its not waterproof but other than that its great!

I like the way these cases look until I start using them on the phone. Good protection but just like the otterbox and toughcase I had they just add too much bulk. So I always wind up going back to my rearth ringke slim. But if you think these cases are too expensive, imagine the alternative when the case may have saved your phone? Just sayin...
I ordered it today as I personally like to have a few cases. I currently have the otterbox commuter as the daily case, but would like to have this ballastic case as a "heavy duty" case for outdoor activities and what not. From what I hear from nexus s and iphone users, these cases are life savers. Through I must admit Ballistic polymer sounds like a fancy name for abs plastic... marketing gimmick 101...LOL

I kind of like the extra bulk of the thick cases. The phone by itself almost feels too thin and too slippery in the hand without a case.
I'm currently using the Incipio case on my GSM Gnex and it feels just right.
134$ for shipping to denmark Are they fu****g crazy
OK... received my case today. I got it for about 20 bucks from amazon. Its the genuine item. The case is similar to the one for the nexus s.
I emailed ballistic about the fit of the case since I have a GSM with extended battery. They told me that it won't fit either GSM or Verizon with the extended battery. I mainly got it for my wife who doesn't have the extended battery but wanted to check the fit on mine.
It fits! It fits just fine on GSM extended models. Fit and finish is nice like all ballistic cases but this one smelled like a dirty suitcase. Im sure the smell will go away but I don't remember my nexus s case smelling like that.
The case feels good in the hand but does add a lot of bulk so not a thin option. Great drop protection though.

I got my Ballastic case today and I am pleased to say it fit my GSM just fine...no issues. And mine has no odor or smell whatsoever. Overall, the design reminds me a LOT of the OB commuter case, except for the trade mark bulky edges on the ballastic. The overall silicone is thinner than I had expected, but the case looks great for a thicker case IMO. The button cut outs are right on the money, unlike my commuter. There are no dust covers for the ports, so perhaps the commuter has the edge in terms of dust protection, but some people find those silicone flaps annoying to open, so it depends on the person.
Why is this case not getting more play? Its the best tough case out there for this phone and its 30 bucks on Amazon. Go go go
I'll take some pics tomorrow. No videos though

Thats one ugly m0th*rf**ker, if you think you need that to protect your phone, leave it at home, you'll never get a scratch. 34$ for a good looking case, complementing the looks of the phone no problem, paying 34$ for a cheap silicone case: priceless.

Well beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I currently use the sgp Neo hybrid and it does look nice, but some people need more protection than that. If you think the commuter, defender, or kraken cases look good either then you're crazy. They are what they are to protect the function of the phone. Btw, the ballistic is not just cheap silicone. The base part is silicone, then poly carbonate shell, and a rubberized coating on the shell. Also, those bumpers do an awesome job absorbing impact.

Lifeproof case for S3?

So after going to my local ATT corp store and seeing this case it looked pretty interesting. Do they only make cases for the iPhone? Tried doing some research and found nothing! Only iPhone cases.

Thanks for posting that link. I have wasted lots of $$$ on screen protectors because I never liked how I applied them. No matter what I do, i get dust/bubbles, and all sorts of other issues. That roll-on screen protector is going to save me so much money and pain/anger.
If you have a hard time with screen protectors you should go check out ghost-armor.com . I have my phone wrapped in clear with a second layer of white carbon fiber, they will do the whole installation for you and they even covered my flygrip in white carbon fiber as well

Otterbox is coming out with a similar case called the Armor. Its been announced for the iPhone, but if anybody would build a non-apple version it would probably be them. I would consider asking them.

Doubtful, Otterbox has their collective head so far up apples ass that it's not even funny. They couldn't even produce a case for the S3 release even though this phone has sold millions already.
I emailed Otterbox earlier to ask them about the Armor case. They don't have plans to make it for any other phones... iPhone only.

They could easily sell 100k cases for the s3 (10M sold so far).
I would buy it immediately
I would jump right on that as well. They did have a post on their site a few months back that they were working on coming out with cases for Samsung phones. It would seem that the s3 should be at the top of the list when they do.
It would be nice to have for kayaking and snowboarding, nice for listening to music in the shower too!
I bought the otterbox commuter with an hd invisishield and loved it. Then upgraded to the defender and while I like the defenders premise.. I hate that I get dust under the screen cover through the miniscule opening at the top where the front facing camera and ear speaker is. I may go back to the commuter and hd screen.

Griffin Survivor Military Case for Galaxy S3

Dear friends,
Amongst the countless "fanboy" wars between samsung and apple, there is one product that I would not mind taking the fire for, which is the Griffin Survivor Military Case for the 4s. Okay i just realised that I sound like a salesperson now, but that thing looks like a beast, my friend has it on his iphone and looking at it it would be the first case I would't mind dropping on the floor just to test it.

Apart from the hard plastic cases such as the kraken/defender etc. Is there a hard rubber alternative for our s3s? I have sent a request email to the company asking them to design one for our precious galaxy s3s, if anyone else would help out and send some request letters it would give us another very good case to protect our s3s.
Here is their Email address, so if everyone could leave a message showing interest I am sure we would get far [email protected]

Lol yeah, the 4s is ****:highfive:, it is just a pity they tend to get quite a lot of accessories made for them due to being one flagship phone for apple..
Indeed - Otterbox Defender or Trident Kraken are about as good as you can do for an Android phone. While there may be more Android phones out there, there's a wide variety of shapes and sizes so it's hard for any one company to make a cool case like those. Apple only makes two or three shapes of phones and sell lots of them so it's easy for any company to make a variety of great cases for them for less money.
It sucks as far as getting cool cases sometimes, but at least you can easily mod the software on an SGS 3.

I saw that but it has plastic on the outside, which IMO feels cheap. This griffin survivor case, has a plastic shell in the inside and a hard rubber shell on the outside which makes the feel of the case really good. Its very sturdy as it simply bounces off the floor without transferring any of the stress to the phone,

I have a red Seidio Active. The case fits very well, looks great, has a kickstand, and does not add extreme bulk. But:
1. Your grip grabs mostly rubber. But, the rubber is surprisingly slippery. The plastic part is slightly textured and is not slippery.
2. The holster has side guides. If you don't line up the phone exactly between the side guides when you load the phone into the holster, then the side guides hit your screen. I have a screen protector, but the holster has made a few scratches in the screen protector.
i'd definitely buy this case if they made it for the gs3 :good:
The Defender is plastic on the inside and silicone on the outside just like this case.

This is *one* of the reasons I chose the s3 over the evo lte. With all major us carriers releasing the same phone, as well as all the international sales, manufacturers such as griffin need to take notice. With the total amount of s3's sold, I honestly expected a whole lot more choices on accessories than what is currently available.

Yeah with 10mil sold I am surprised they are not tapping into it, thatswhy I am doing this little campaign to give them a little push. lets say they decide to bring one out next week, I am sure they'd be making a lot of sales with pre orders, given the current somewhat small number of options available to 10mil+ users.
So I would like everyone to just spent one minute in emailing them, I am sure with our number of users we could achieve this
bump
Saw my friend bought the griffin case for 4s pretty solid and the grip of the case is nice and not slippery. Was abit down though these company didn't make any of their cases for androids.

Recommend a case!!

Hello people
Need a case for my shiney new S3!! I did have an S1 up to 2 days ago but it did not survive an encounter with a concrete car park! 2 months from the end of my contract!!! Anyways..
The forum has fried my brain with the number of different cases available / opinions / problems so I decided it might just be easier to ask! Sooooo.. what case do you have and would you recommend it? I want something that going to protect my phone (but not entomb it like an otterbox) and keep the phone looking smart, that means a BIG no no to all those crazy designs out there (Urban armor I'm talking to you). Just to make it a little more difficult I'm in the UK..!
Any help would be much appreciated!

Read all the reviews on Amazon as well. Besides the price, most people have never used or seen the case before so you're not dealing with Fanboys although I've become one since it's still the best all around case over my other 5 or 6 although I have a UAG on the way that may give it a run.....but even buying it used it was twice the price as the Acase when I purchased it.
I also just purchased an Urban Armor Gear (UAG) case for my phone. It looks like it gives good protection with a cool design instead of some of those cases that look like a bloated whale. http://www.urbanarmorgear.com/collections/samsung But I got mine through amazon. I'll post pics when it arrives.

He doesnt want a Urban. Says its a big "no no" which i agree with.
Edit: On the case search. Try out tmart.com I should be receiving my case from them soon. Its cheap and has free shipping. Not sure about UK though. Great selection.

HA! Yeah maybe I should have read his whole post. Good catch.
OP I was looking at Incipio's cases. The incipio silicrylic cases look pretty sleek and like they give better protection than just a rubber sleeve.
got me an incipio

Im going to get the Acase as it looks nice, good protection like other cases and has a good price tag!! My partner is going to get an incipio silicrylic for hers as she likes the design more!
Any recommendations for screen protectors to go with these cases?

I'm confident you won't be disappointed.
Currently not being productive on my S3.
I'm really anal about business and I'm loving the otterbox commuter

I recommend ballistic maxx sg. I Have that and UAG (I know you don't like the design). The UAG is better in my opinion. Also you should check out sector 7 I think it's called? It will be out for the s3 soon.

I Was very much in your position and got a spigen argos. Its a flip leather though so may not be to your taste but the phone seems well protected and the case itself is incredibly thin and light.

I know it's expensive, but I really like the new Zagg Invisible Shield High Definition screen protector. It just about dissapears on the phone, it's a lot smoother than most of the other non-glass screen protectors and it doesn't have as much orange peel as the others.
I am loving my Otterbox Defender. Beware though: it is very chunky. Mind you I like this - it makes the phone look and feel like a very expensive power tool; something you used on an exploration expedition!

Well... I could only hope that Samsung releases some kind of ultra slim cover like the one for the GS3.

I got this from ebay: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/160907044893...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_3659wt_1163
It's pretty cool, the texture feels like fine sand paper which makes it really easy to grip. I recommend this type of case for people with small hands like myself.

Yeah that's a great case , excellent feel fits well but the exposed bezel at top & bottom worried me a tad.
I picked up a cruzerlite on amazon to hold me over until the real cases come out. Downfall is the cruzerlite doesnt play well with my screen protector

Never had to, usually at&t has plenty. They actually blamed it on Hurricane Sandy, said interrupted deliveries.
I got a cheap one for 7 off ebay & ordered the Samsung White Note 2 case from mobilecityonline.com for $19.99. I'm going to not go case crazy like I did on the SGS3.
i don't normally get a case since i usually hate most that ive had, but i actually love the samsung tpu case. it is super thin, good coverage, rubber sides, plastic back that resembles what the phone looks like underneath, and lip that goes over the screen. you can get it 50% off on samsungs website with the coupon code, so $15. totally worth it.

Is it rubber skin thin? I mean, I dont want to bulk this device up at all but I want a really thin case.

its thin enough that you may mistake it for there being no case on there at all, just like the samsung tpu cases for the GS3. heres a thread with lots of pix and review for it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1970161

This is why I always wait a bit to purchase my electronics. It makes everything easier to have a bit of patience.
Why does everyone dislike the flip cover case? It seems like decent protection and not bulky at all?

I can't speak for everyone but I know a disadvantage is that it blocks the notification light, making it useless to have.

This may be a solution. Who is willing to try

Seriously, I might give it a go. As long as you can leave the flip cover folded over the back of the device for the times you want to be able to see the led notification then I should be fine. But I dont plan on getting a screen protector and for throwing it in my pockets or laptop bag the flip cover might do its job in protecting the big screen.
