[Q] Phone not charging fast - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I thought the note 3s usb 3.0 is supposed to charge pretty fast. My LG G2 with almost the same size mah charges really fast compared to this phone. Is this normal?

Use the cable that came with the phone and charger .Mine take just about 2.5 hours to fully charge.

I did. Maybe I'm comparing it to the g2 to much which charges in less than 2 hours.

Better battery life with new battery

Bought the epic touch on release date. Could never get decent battery life on cm9. Thought I'd try a new battery since they're only $13. Went from under 2 hours screen on to 3 hours screen on time. Totally worth the 13$

Nice. I was thinking of getting a second battery. You just get a stock 1800 mAh one?

Moral of the story was if you have crappy battery life. Get a new one.

No problem. Yes I got a new stock oem battery from ebay

You could have picked one up for free at the Sprint store. I just exchanged two batteries, mine and the wife's, they didn't even check me in or look at the batteries. You're right, though, a new battery makes a huge difference.

Would the cable make a difference even though I use the stock adapter?

Maybe adapter would be okay but others ones have different voltage they put out. Like a BB charger I use is 1A and the stock Samsung is 750mA
If I'm not mistaken ?

Just be careful and read the specs on all 3rd party chargers....one I bought for car has trashed the battery.
Sprint just replaced mine, can get up to 12 hours with moderate use

Phone discharges on the charger when in use

Not sure if this a ROM, kernel, or hardware problem but lately my phone has started to discharge if I'm using it on the charger. It'll charge normally but when I start using it, it gets hot and I lose battery. I'm running the latest stable vanilla rootbox with ktoonz kernel.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
That sounds normal to me. If you're using more than you draw, you'll lose instead of gain and the battery will heat up even more.

Your phone does the same?

It's just math and physics.
If you are gaining, say 1A per hour and using it at a higher rate you will necessarily lose charge instead of gaining it.
Anyone's phone will do the same, that's just how batteries work. They heat up if you're putting them through a lot of stress - like continuously putting energy into it while taking it away at the same or higher rate.
If you want to continuously use the phone, buy a set of spare batteries and rotate them in and out.

Might be your usb cable/voltage output/ whatever u use to charge ur phone. Not enough power to charge it fast enough when you are using it.

+1 on this. Try killing background processes and wait for battery to keep up with usage. Sometimes battery can't keep up with active processes..

I had the same issue. Tried a different charger and different rom. On liquid smooth 2.1 right now. Not having that issue anymore.

I'll give that ROM a try, i wasn't experiencing it with the stable release of rootbox before the current one. What kernel are you using?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
i had the same issue and I just switched cables, seemed like mine had some loose wiring or something and charged hella slow. so maybe check your cable first, switch chargers and then look and see if that helps

I'd try another cable too. On stock rom I had no discharge while charging issues so there is no reason you shouldnt be able to charge normally again.
Also check the usb port on the phone. If it's dusty try blowing into it. Check that it isn't loose also.

Faulty Charger/Cable?

So I have notice that charging my phone takes really long using out of box charge and cable. I had 15% when I plugged it in 3 hours ago and now that I go and get it it's just at 50% :banghead: Any ideas if this is normal or if I should contact Sprint or Samsung for a replacement?

You're probably running the stock ROM, right?
Stock ROM uses software to limit to 2A wall charger to only input 500mA to charge the battery at 5V

Note II Not Charging Properly...

I have a relative who is has note 2 that was recently rooted. We have gone through many different roms trying to resolve the issue, but to no avail. The phone can sit on the charger for over 12 hrs straights, and will not reach 100%. currently it has been charging for 8 hrs, and is only at 35%. could the wise minds of XDA assist me in coming up with a solution to this particular issue?
Likely a faulty usb cable.

The note 2 uses a stock 2amp charger. If you are using any other charger, you will have that problem. Most other chargers only output .5amps

All valuable points, one more to go with them, a faulty battery can do the same thing.

Tilt wireless charger

Anyone had any luck with tilt charger. I get red light and clicking noise. Wondering if there is a certain position that it would work.

Good point, but there is something that triggers the charger, maybe it is the metal back, but other non qi devices do not have the same effect on the charger
