Hello all, I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. I have a acer iconia a100 rooted and currently running the carbon rom (4.2.2) and twrp recovery (2.6.3.0). I would like to go back to stock rom (ICS). I have not changed any kernals or anything like that. Can I just restore my nandroid backup of my stock rom or is there something specific I have to do? Also, I just looked and I dont have a stock backup with twrp, only with cwm. When I unlocked bootloader, I installed cwm, then must have done a backup of stock rom, then flashed carbon rom, then switched to twrp and made another backup so I would have to go back to cwm to restore nandroid. How do I go back to cwm from twrp?? Thanks for the feedback.
I looked in my internal storage and it looks like I have 2 zips, fastbootrecovery.zip and xsposeddisabler-cwm.zip, do I flash one of these?? and if I do, can I do it with es explorer?? Thanks

Just the stock ROM or completely back to stock, 100%?
If you don't know what those zips are, or how to use them, then don't use them, period.
To get back cwm you can use fastboot to flash it back on or use one of the cwm installers in development, if any are still there, if you want to do it with fastboot you'll need some stuff to get ready, most of it should be there from when you rooted the first time, then a couple lines in a command prompt and you'll have it back. There's also stock rooted ICS ROMs available, so depending on what you want we can go from there.

I am going to sell my tablet so I would like to go to my backup of my stock rom. When I restore my stock backup, I can just do a full wipe, that will get me back to the starting point of just the basic rom, right?? That will wipe all my data from the backup rom, or will a full wipe erase the rom too?? I want to get back to the basic rom (just like if I install a new rom) have to set up accounts, wifi, etc).
Also, is there a tutorial or a step by step guide to reinstall cwm back on my tablet, since my stock rom was backed up with cwm? And where do I have the files to reflash cwm. Thanks for your assistance in helping me return my tablet to the state I want.

I found a site that has it step by step, installing cwm. Here it is.
Here it is guys, Stock CWM Recovery for the ACER A100.
Before anything make sure you have the latest ICS leak C/O Vache, Root, and Unlocked Bootloader.

But it says make sure you have the latest ics leak?? Are they refferring to the rom?? If so, I currently have carbon rom istalled which is jellybean. This will not work then?? I am a little confused and any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Well, before the tab got official ICS, we had a leak. If you had read down the topics some you would've found it. You do not want cwm, you want twrp.

I need cwm to restore my stock rom. If I use the steps quoted below to reinstall cwm, will I run into any problems since I'm coing from carbon rom (jellybean) to stock rom which is (ICS)?

To just go back to stock to sell it you'll run into a couple issues coming from 4.2+, namely the storage path changes, you'll retain the /0 folders, however many were made. Otherwise following the guide that roman made will work to go back to 100% stock, I'll see if I can get a link, I'm in a waiting room with crappy data lol

Thanks for the response, youve fully confused me with the /0 folders?? What exactly is that?? When I go to es file explorer, I see sdcard0 (which looks like the internal storage) and sd01 which looks like my ext sd card. Is it one of those your are talking about??
Also, you said something about go delete in twrp, I went into twrp and did not find anything with that name?? am I deleteing something in twrp. Could you spell it out for me since I am a noob when it comes to reverting a device to stock. Thanks for taking the time to explain this.

that is something happening with cwm. i had this problem. it keeps creating a folder names 0 and keep moving old files into that whenever you install a new rom.
Hello guys. I need your feedback. I have a A100 that is rooted and is currently running carbon rom 4.2. I am going to be selling this in the next couple weeks because I just don't use it anymore now that I have a second pc.Do you think it would be more advantagious to sell this just the way it is (rooted and custom rom) or should I take it back to completely stock? 2) Download the Official .014 Stock ICS rom

3) Rename the Stock ICS rom to "update.zip", no quotes (make sure you have "hide known file extensions" UNCHECKED, in the folder options). And place it on the root of your microSD card. This will allow you to see the file extension to verify that it is named properly.
Get it Done
1) Flash the Stock recovery zip with your custom recovery. Then wipe cache, davlik cache, and wipe data/factory reset.
2) Reboot to system.
3) Allow it to sit for 5 minutes or so.
4) Then Power off.
5) Update from the microSD card by holding down the power and volume rocker closest to the corner at the same time, until you see "erasing cache .".. ect, ect. The stock rom install should start by itself, dont touch anything, wait for it to reboot.

Now I get the android symbol with the red triangle, that stays for about a minute, then it reboots and stays on thye acer screen. When I did the steps and was going to reboot, I received a waring while in recovery sayiny that I dont have a op installed. I did it anyway, as posted and now I'm stuck, can anyone PLEASE help me.I tried doing a reset with steps 2 though 4 but while pressing the vol up and letting go of the power button, it does not vibrate.
I try to boot into recovery with vol up + power, it boots than says erasing cache, then booting into recovery, the the android synbol comes up with the red triangle.

So i am running the stock rom unlocked and rooted. Everything has been working fine until recently.
I wanted to flash a boot animation instead of just copy and paste with root explorer. So i booted into fastboot (volume hold then power). I then selected recovery and my phone shows the android thinking then he's flat on his back with an exclamation point above him. I followed the rootwiki for the gnex to the letter. Any ideas on whats wrong?

Afraid I can't help you but I had exactly the same issue. I used flashed the original recovery again and again but kept getting droid flat on it's back with the red exclamation mark. Finaly I decided that I found recovery imporatant enough and decided to flash CWM recovery. That gave me at least recovery back. I would prefer however getting stock recovery back. So if someone has a resolution I would be one happy camper.
Tried to flash it again and it gave me an error in adb saying faiked partition.
Any help is appreciated
Try flashing CWM with Rom Manager.
The android on his back with exclamation point is stock recovery. You have a few options: install ROM manager and flash clockworkmod through it (some people's phones need this done before each flash I think based on root process) or you can change the name of your recovery-from-boot.p file which is a file that causes ICS to revert back to stock recovery, and some have to use root explorer to change the read/write access to get clockwork to stick. I would just use ROM Manager for it. If you ever want stock recovery you can download the factory image file from Google and extract the recovery.img and use fastboot
- copy the recovery.img file to the directory that contains your fastboot utility
- start-up a terminal/command session
- put your phone into fastboot / bootloader mode
- type the following fastboot command to flash the stock recovery:

Two simple questions: I want my GN to be close to stock, haven't flashed custom rom's radio's etc. What I do want is Root and SetCPU (for power saving options during screen off), rootexplorer, Volume+ etcetera working. I've managed to put them all on, now:
If I reflash stock recovery and lock my bootloader: will they keep on working and:
If I get OTA updates: will they keep on working too?

you can leave your phone unlocked and root with a method such as CF-Root and leave your factory recovery and OTA's will go through and install without issue. Having the bootloader unlocker doesn't effect OTA's at all. There are a some programs that claim they maintain root after OTA but even if they don't you can just re root with a program like CF-Root

This. I had the exact same issue when trying to flash anything after I rooted. either flash CWM through rom manager or install CWM permanently if you haven't already. After I installed it I've had no issues.
I tried using the franco kernel app to install the kernel on my rooted Galaxy Nexus. There was the "download the .zip" option and the "we'll flash it for you" option. Of course I took the easy option which was probably stupid on my part. My phone downloaded the kernel and then rebooted. Now that it has rebooted... it wont get beyond the black screen that says "Google" and has the little open lock image at the bottom.
Questions:
Has anyone seen this?
Did I brick this thing (I really hope not)?
What steps can I do to try to get it back working?
Or does it just take a long time 20+ minutes to download/install/whatever once it reboots?

I did this last night to see, and it didn't work. I had to pull the battery, and reboot. I then just downloaded the new zip, and rebooted into Recovery to flash it as I normally would.
I wanted to do this... but with my root toolkit it looks like my phone doesn't have usb debugging on (which it was before I tried to flash this kernel). And I can't turn my phone on to turn it on... so hmm.

Pull the battery, hold Vol Up/Vol Down/Power to get into Recovery. Do you have the ROM zip file or another kernel on your SD card? You could just re-flash the ROM zip file over your existing installation, which would leave your data alone and install the ROM's kernel. Wipe /cache and Dalvik Cache before flashing.
EDIT: When you get into the bootloader, hit Vol Up until Recovery shows up, then hit the Power button to boot to Recovery.

This is KIND of what I'm doing. I can't access my phone from the computer because of the damn usb thing... but I'm going to try to flash back to stock and see if that works.
It's booting now and it's been on the start screen for a minute or two. How long should it take on a stock flash? Just curious how long to wait before yanking the battery and trying again.
How did you flash stock, using fastboot or a zip? These are the stock images correct?
I boot into Recovery Mode and did the factory reset.
I also have a su.zip on my sdcard that I think is the rooted image that was used when I used the WugFresh root toolkit. But I'm not sure.
Shouldn't the Factory Reset... do a Factory Reset?
Edit: I see it's just data not an actual factory reset as I am thinking.

If you don't have a ROM or kernel zip file on your SD card, you'll want to put one there. Factory Reset already reset any data you have, so you'll want to flashing a ROM would be recommended here.
You can use ADB to push files to your SD card. You'll need to get into Recovery, mount /data (which is under Mounts and Storage menu), then open a command prompt window and change directories to your Android SDK folder, specifically Platform-tools. Then use ADB to push the zip files to your SD card:
adb push <name of file>.zip /data/media
EDIT 2: You'll want to download and put the zip file in your SDK - Platform-tools folder before you use ADB to push it there.
You can then flash the ROM via Install file from SD card.
Does this make sense?

This is a problem with the toolkit...
Do you have any adb and fastboot downloaded? No? Download it. There's more than enough instructions on that.
You didn't need to factory reset AT ALL. All you needed to do was just re-flash your ROM and you would've been good to go.
Next time learn how to use adb and fastboot command please. Then, there will be less chance of messing it up and not being able to fixing it.
Hi, sorry this thread is kinda old already but I don't really want to start new thread about same problem. So, similar to OP, I stupidly use the 'autoflash' option from franco app, and I'm stuck now. But I can still have access to CWM recovery. I was using the stock 4.2.2 takju before. I already tried to re-flash stock kernel -> fail. Tried re-flash stock rom - fail. Tried wipe cache and dalvik then flash deodexed 4.2.2 -> also fail. Please help me, I really need to use my phone right now.

Been having issues with my HTC One X for the past week now and haven't been able to solve it via google or searching this forum, so was hoping one of you kind people can assist a bit.
I do apologise if this issue has already been posted and I missed it, if you can link me I'll be eternally grateful.
Basically, had a few issues annoying me with my HTC so wanted to stick a custom ROM on it. Did some searching about, eventually got a plan together to unlock and root it. All went fine, unlocked it (S-On still) got TWRP recovery on it (Chose this as the ROM I was looking at claimed to be not compatible with CWR) and was booted back into my stock droid.
First thing I did after a successful boot was to go back into recovery and make a full backup (I may have not ticked the Cache and _android.secure)
Played about with the phone again a bit, getting some of the apps back on as it had been wiped, then made a second backup (This one I know I ticked all the boxes for)
Next I tried putting CleanROM on, but could get past the white HTC screen boot loop, after various reflashing the Boot.IMG and clearing cache, so fired up TWRP and restored back to my second backup. All back to normal.
Used the phone as normal for a day or so then I tried flashing another ROM (ViperX) same thing as CleanROM (White HTC screen boot loop) and then went on to try Team Baked's ROM. Managed to get this working successfully, however the ROM was not to my liking and decided to go back to my stock backup. Here's where the issue started.
Now, when restoring the backup the phone boots as far as displaying my background and the status bar at the top, however I cannot pull the status bar down and the ring to unlock the phone with doesn't appear. It sits here for a few second and then reboots. Boot loop.
I've tried clearing cache, restoring various different ways and restoring the boot.img (though I'm not sure I have the right one) but nothing works.
The last variation I tried for restoring involved:
1. Clearing the phone via TWRP (System Restore/Clear Cache/Clear Davik/Clear System/Clear SD Card (heard this can cause issues)/Clearing Android.Secure in that order)
2. Reboot into recovery
3. Repeat step 1 (in case of locked files)
4. Reboot into Recovery
5. full restore (With MD5 check enable)
6. Clear Cache and Dalvik (Tried with just cache, also done Fastboot clear cache in another attempt)
7. Attempt to boot into OS.
As I mentioned earlier, I'm not sure if I have the right boot.IMG for my phone Model/kernal/other, to be honest I'm not entirely sure of the requirements. The details of my phone I've collected so far are:
Getvar version-main (Not sure if this is kernal or what) = 2.17.771.3
hBoot = 1.12.0000
radio = 2.1204.135.20H
CID = H3G_001
Basically, as far as I can tell from the masses of reading I've been doing, I won't be able to update to custom JB for a while so want to get back to my stock ICS and then OTA to JB when my carrier releases their version, then maybe sometime in the future when the ROM specific to my phone has been cracked consider switching to a custom.
on a final note, I've tried flashing both my backups, same result. I've also tried restoring the stock recovery and doing a system recovery with that. It appears to go through the motions (phone with green arrows? Also had the red exclamation mark, but only once of the 3 attempts) then reboots and it's still the same issue.
Thanks for reading through, any advice would be much appreciated. Used to love my phone but now can barely stand to look at it.

Ok, so I've now downloaded a different boot.img which should be for stock ics and after flashing that, then flashing stock recovery and doing a system restore via bootloader I will 50% of the time get the lock screen and when I unlock it I see the white HTC screen of the initial setup, then it sticks there a while and reboots. It also reboots after left at the lock screen.
To me this seems like it's doing a check or looking for a certain piece of software/file that's missing but is required to finish the start-up process. Anyone any ideas?
Even if someone can point me in the right direction for an RRU for my phone as football's RRU's seem to be the only one that has the one I need but as of 5 days before all this happened the site they're hosted on doesn't allow 500+MB downloads for free members

**EDIT** Just done a full device wipe then restored only the SYSTEM partition and manually flashed the boot, then when I restarted it sat on the white HTC on the device setup but eventually loaded up, allowed me to complete the device setup and then loaded into the OS. All seemed fine aside from the phone being stuck in turning off airplane mode. Rebooted it to see if that would clear it up and now I'm back to bootloops before the lock screen appears (I just get my background and status bar)
So you have a nandroid backup ! Then do this
Wipe all in recovery and i mean ALL except the sdcard obvious ! system,data,caches,dalvik cache...
Then boot back into fastboot usb mode and flash the boot.img from the nandroid. Taken with TWRP the boot.img is called something like
Emmc.boot.win (or at least similar to this)
You can flash this file with fastboot command
Fastboot flash boot name of the boot.img (.win in this case)
Then enter the recovery and full wipe if you didn't o that already !
Restore the nandroid and boot it up :thumbup:

Perfect! Thanks so much man, I never even thought to flash the .wim, thought it had to be .img. Just successfully booted fully back into my old system. Hopefully will stay stable the next hour or so but looking good!

Yes, the one came with Android_Fastboot_KIT_V12.x
And make sure you flash a 2.17 based ICS rom. You can not run the maximus JB rom on that 1.12 hboot !

Download a 2.17 ics Rom and copy it to the phone (mount the sdcard within the recovery as a usb disk)
Take the boot.img file from that rom and copy it to the tool you used to flash it
Then enter the recovery and wipe EVERYTHING except sdcard ofcourse !!! (Cache,dalvik cache, system and data)
Then install the Rom.zip

If you're looking for a Rom, I've got hboot 1.12 as well and tried a few ROMs and only ones I got working were:
Team Baked, based on jellybean though still works with 1.12. No Sense though, and a few things weren't to my liking (to name a couple,backlights on buttons didn't work and multitask button was switched back to menu button like in older devices)
SkyDragon, ics ROM with sense. Only had this a short while but appeared to be an exact stock ROM, everything working the way it should, and with a few added extra improvements.

Yes.
Copy the boot.img from the backup to your PC (you can mount SD card as USB from TWRP), flash it:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
And restore backup from TWRP.

Thanks alot, got it back as it was before.
Need to clear a doubt; will I be able to update my device with the OTA, as my device is unlocked, S-ON & TWRP installed?
I hope so, I'm in the same boat as you. From what I've been reading, it should still be possible as long as you put back the stock recovery and relock the bootloader.

As for relocking the bootloader, I think the process is to run this command whilst in Fast Boot USB mode
fastboot oem lock
After it's run there should be a purple "RELOCKED" at the top of your bootloader menu.
Remember to flash the recovery BEFORE you relock the bootloader
You do not have to lock the bootloader, just the stock recovery is needed ....

so i rooted my s3 for sprint and beleive everything went fine i do have root...but everytime i am gonna install a rom..(tried 3 diffrent ones) while is installing the android drops flat on his back with the hood open and exclamation on his chest...can some one pls HELP ME AND THE LIL GUY OUT!!!
p.s i tried unrooting and and when checking .md5 file it fails so i cancelled..

Your going into download/odin mode. You need to go into whatever custom recovery you have to flash roms....
Damn its been a while since i did the 3 finger salute but i think it's power+home+ volume down.
If thats not it then its volume up lol.

If it's putting you in download switch the volume button your holding... so if holding volume down gold up instead and vice versa

Ok, let's start at the very beginning (it's a very good place to start).
Before we get started, I'm going to make the following assumptions:
You successfully rooted your phone through Odin.
You currently have a custom recovery (either TWRP or CWM).
You have a Rom you'd like to flash on either your internal storage or your SDcard (I'd recommend the SDcard, but that's your prerogative).
If either of the first two is not true, I'd recommend going back to qbking77's thread and check out the videos on how to use Odin to gain root and a custom recovery.
If number 3 above is not true, download a ROM (nor someone new to flashing/custom Roms, I'd recommend Freeza's stock rooted Rom, as it's identical to stock TW, but just with Root). Once you download a Rom, check it's md5sum to verify that it's a good download. Copy the file to your SD card and get ready to flash (make sure you have decent battery life left, I try to keep at least 50% or more when flashing Roms, although it shouldn't take too long.
I'll give directions on how to flash a Rom below. The instructions will be for TWRP, but CWM has similar options/settings
Turn your phone completely off (hold down power for 3-5 seconds)
Boot your phone into recovery. Hold Up, Menu, and Power for a few seconds (until SAMSUNG appears on your screen and the phone vibrates)
Make a Nandroid backup. I can't emphasize this enough. In flashing, it's almost a certainty that one time, something will mess up. When that happens, you want to be able to restore a backup. In TWRP, just go into Backup Menu and choose where you want it (internal vs. External storage). It takes my phone a few (5-10) minutes to completely backup my data.
In TWRP, click the wipe button, then system. This will completely wipe the Rom from your phone. Doing this will allow you to get a "clean" install, without any settings or leftover files from your old Rom getting in the way. Instead, you could only wipe data (factory reset), which is good enough for most Roms. I'd still recommend a system wipe, though.
Also while in the Wipe menu, wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache.
Go back to the TWRP main menu.
Click Install, then find your Rom zip file (may have to switch from internal to external storage).
Let TWRP do it's thing.
If you're installing a TW-based Rom, chances are it had gapps already installed. If not, you should now flash the correct gapps package from goo.im. Make sure you're flashing the correct one, as if you don't, your google apps will force close upon use.
Reboot into system and give it time to boot (first boot sometimes takes a couple of minutes).
Set up your phone the way you like.
These should be the directions to follow whenever you flash a new Rom. Some Roms have the Aroma installer, so you'll have more options once you choose to flash the Rom zip, but those are typically easy to follow (and vary from Rom to Rom, so I won't be able to give you a good guide on that).

You're still on stock recovery you need download goomanager from the play store hit the menu button and select install open recovery script to install twrp. Then reboot recovery and flash your rom :thumbup:

Ok, it sounds like your recovery is bonked (and yes, that is the technical term). Something must've gone wrong when you were flashing the recovery through Odin (not necessarily your fault, sounds like it might've been a corrupted download).
One thing you can do is to download the latest TWRP. The way to do this is to install the GooManager app from the play store.
Once GooManager is installed, click on the "menu" button, then choose "Install OpenRecoveryScript." This will download and install the latest version of TWRP. Let it do it's thing then try to reboot into recovery again (you can do it directly from GooManager, it's one of the main options).
Let me know if that works.

Most likely. Alot of people miss that step. You need to reboot recovery to disable the recovery install script that reflashes stock clockwork on boot.

To the OP why do you say you are rooted? Have to tried to install an app which requires root access and where able to? I think you failed to root the device at all. I think you need to go through the process all over again to root your device. Once you flash the custom recovery via odin you can not let the phone reboot, you must pull the battery then boot into the custom recovery flash the team Epic root zip which will prevent the stock recovery from being installed again. Then at this point will you be able to reboot the phone. Once it boots up verify you have SU installed and have root access. Now the MOST IMPORTANT thing you are going to do is shut down, boot back into custom recovery (cwm) and make a nandroid backup.

Ok. I have seen several people asking about rooting their T-Mobile Note 3. I am sure there have been posts on how to accomplish this feat. I am going to put out the steps that I took and mention a few other options and my thoughts on those. I hope to make this an all inclusive post for newbies. This method works whether you are on 4.3 or 4.4 BUT you will need to make sure the recovery and ROM you download is for the correct version of android you are using. To make this easier I am going to assume you are already on 4.4 Not everything will be clear but should be able to be easily understood. If there is something you don't understand ask and I am sure people will try to help. That or you can do a google search and probably find the answer a whole lot faster. If you did have a problem and found the solution please post it so others can use your information. I don't have the time at the moment to provide all the links but I will try to update this thread as much as I can.
I am NOT responsible for bricked devices, voided warranties or downloaded virus to your computer.
That being said rooting should be a relatively simple and easy process.
1. Download Odin 3.07 or 3.09 .zip file and install on your computer. (I have found no real difference in between the two when attempting root.) (No link provided just google it.)
2. Download the custom recovery of you choice. (I use and prefer twrp, but some people have had problems flashing ROMs and have had better luck with philz recovery) Below is the link for TWRP. If using 4.4 make sure to download the img.tar file for 2.7. There are other files but you want the one ending in img.tar! http://teamw.in/project/twrp2
3. Open Odin and connect your phone. You need to put your phone into download mode before connecting. Shut your phone off and then turn back on while holding volume down, power and home key. You will see a special screen pop up and a warning. Acknowledge the warning and the connect to the computer. If you don't get a blue bar on the left side of Odin after connecting your phone then you need to update your driver's (google search).
4. Place the .tar file that you downloaded into the PDA(3.07) or AP(3.09) section. Make sure the ONLY boxes on the left are Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked (that should be the default settings)!!
5. Hit the start button. Be advised that Flashing a custom recovery WILL trip Knox.
6. You should the blue bar turn green and say "pass." You know have a custom recovery on your phone and you can disconnect your phone.
At this point you do not have root access, you just have a custom recovery. You now have a choice to make. Do you want your phone rooted or do you want to flash a custom ROM. If you want to flash a custom ROM jump to #8. If you just want root and plan on staying on stock go to #7.
7. Download the latest version of SuperSU file from http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.94.zip and flash from your custom recovery. when you restart your phone make sure you can open the SuperSU app. If you cannot go to the play store and reinstall it from there. Congrats!!
8. If you want a custom ROM you need to download the .zip file of that ROM. I would recommend placing it on your EXTERNAL sd card.
9. Go to your custom recovery. There are some things you are going to need to back up prior to Flashing the ROM.
a. Backup your stock ROM, This could save you from some major problems. Back up-system, data and boot-to your EXTERNAL sd card.
b. Backup you EFS files (this can be done via twrp, other wise you will need to do it another way-Google search)
10. Wipe the phone. You want to wipe Data, Cache and Dalvik
11. Flash you custom ROM. Almost every custom ROM comes rooted. You just need to read the info on that ROM
12. Your phone should reboot and you are done!!

What is "Bricked"? It is a phone that will not boot and only stays on a black screen. Soft Brick is where your phone constantly reboots without opening your ROM.

Will tripping Knox void my warranty? Probably
How do I get into the recovery? Shut your phone off and then restart while holding the volume up, power and home key. You have to let go as soon as you see the blue letters "Recovery Booting"
There are not that many ROMS for T-mobile can I use an international ROM? Yes! I currently run an international ROM but on most of them you do loose your wifi calling feature. You also need to download a custom T-Mobile Kernel and the Wifi/BT fix.
Should I use CF Auto root or Klingo? I personally don't like the idea of Klingo. Some of the things I have seen they appear to be a little fishy and with them rooting your phone they initially have access to EVERYTHING. CF auto root does not place a custom recovery. You CANNOT flash a custom ROM without a custom recovery. I did it my way because I wanted a custom ROM and just not root.
What about the De La Vega Method? I have no idea and it seemed more work that it was worth. I did not care about tripping Knox
Tips:
Some ROMS will delete your internal memory when flashing as will wiping your phone. That is why I strongly suggest placing the backups and ROMS on your external sd card.
Some ROMS come with an Auroma set up. You will automatically be directed into it when you flash from recovery.
If you are flashing an international ROM make sure that you flash the ROM, T-mobile Kernel and Wifi Fix before choosing the reboot option. If you don't have the t-mobile kernel prior to reboot you will go into a bootloop.
I hope this helps and I will add more and clarify this post in the next few days. I just hope this can help some of you new guys out a little bit and if you found it useful especially if you obtained root please hit the thanks meter.
OK, I deleted all the information here about all the errors I made so that this won't confuse anyone. To summarize my error, I thought I had purchased Android 4.4.2 and flashed the wrong versions. After flashing the correct version, 4.3, everything worked.
The SD-card is not visible in stock recovery and the ADB method won't work without first having root, so that leaves the Odin method.
The Odin method flashes TWRP recovery successfully and when I exited it asked me if I wanted to root the device. I chose 'yes' and it worked for a while then booted into the Android OS. In Android it booted normally, then after I did something which I did not think about and don't recall, a dialog advised me that the GUI portion of the root process still needed to be applied. I allowed it to proceed and now I am rooted with TWRP. I verified the root through ADB by creating a file in the root directory.

I will try to break this down for you.
1. You need to reflash twrp via Odin to make sure it works correctly since doing auto root.
2. That screen you saw is exactly what you wanted to see. As stated in the OP when you see that screen let go of the buttons and wait, twrp will open shortly. I get the same screen so don't worry. Once you get into twrp and if you need a tutorial on twrp I would suggest looking it up on YouTube.
3. If you reflash the stock ROM via Odin it should fix everything. I am not sure about the partition problem. I will get back if I get some more info.
I would not worry about trying to reflash stock. I would just reflash twrp, boot into recovery and then proceed as listed in the OP.

I found my problem. I think the box, or something, was mislabeled because "About" tells me I have Android 4.3, not 4.4.2. So I flashed the 4.3 version of TWRP and booted right into it. After another reboot to make sure it's stable I'll try rooting again.

Great. Yes, it did not work because 2.7 is written for the new bootloader in 4.4. Are you planning on staying stock jb or planning on flashing a ROM?

Stock. With root I'm able to customize everything right on the device about as much as the ROM builders. But there are things I cannot do on the device so I'll be keeping an eye on the ROMs to see if anything is attractive.
After I finished this update I refreshed this page and saw that you had been commenting. The screen you saw should be there was also there when I flashed the correct TWRP, and it did move on to TWRP as you said. I'm adding the following paragraph separately so that it's easier for people to find if they need it:
After I had flashed the wrong version of TWRP (4.4 instead of 4.3) it boot-looped to the "SEANDROID NOT ENFORCING" display. To get out of that boot-loop I held the Download Mode keys (HOME-POWER-VOLDOWN) until it rebooted into the first download mode screen, the warning which says you can press VOL-DOWN to boot normally. At that point press VOL-DOWN and it will boot normally. If you press VOL-UP and continue into Download Mode then you will still be in the boot-loop when you reset the device and you will need to reboot again into the Download Mode warning screen and press VOL-DOWN to boot normally.
