No Sense 5.5 for One X - HTC One X

Well this is it
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 4

hehe... i still have the feeling that Sense 5 was the last big update...but i say its ok...i dont think that nowdays...(i mean in the rush time we live..if i can say that so) its a good idea to make over and over updates for old phones so that you dont need to buy a new phone...i can understand that a little bit...2 years are ok..and a must...i dont want a big discussion about this..for this there are enough threads..but thats my thinking and i hope i dont make me enemies

So much for this being 'flagship'. HTC really don't care about their customers once they have a new bun in the oven.

The One X was the 2012 flagship, it's almost 2014 HTC has gone beyond and above with support for the One X.

I suppose so.

I guess the only option would be cm11

I tend to disagree. Only year and a half is passed after HOX release and less than a year of hox+ release. It's not right to not update the previous generation. Atleast 2 years is a must. We can bash samsung all that we want, but they support their top models far better than htc, sadly as htc is far better phone builder. I hope when lenovo buy htc there will be new "hardcore boner" phones. Htc support of past models is getting worse and worse as their financial records are dropping with extreme rate(and with that "support" they only make it worse). They just don't have the human power/money power to support older devices. Sad, but true.

I don't get it, if you want to be 'up to date' you should buy a new phone every two years. I think HTC did an amazing job with 4.2.2 sense 5. I do not expect more of them. It's not all about you and me in this world. I rather like HTC to work on new stuff then giving ten years of support to 'old' devices.
And be honest, this latest update with the hardware of the one x will run for a long time, it's not that our device becomes useless because of no updates.

I will just say that if you bought a hox+ (released november 2012) you would need to buy a new phone in less then a year if you wanted to be on the latest... btw latest for htc and sammy means one version behind
In the case of the hox... They supported it for a year and a half.
our devices were never on the latest android version. I dont call it an update if you are one or two versions behind. Sammy is the same but i hate them even more for that because they have the resources to update it in a reasonable timeframe. But they dont.

it's really disappointing

I don't care that much about Sense 5.5 , because most of the features that are in it, we already have with Sense 5.0 for our One X (except for the camera features, we'll never get those). But I do care about the 4.3 update and I hope we get it. According to previous leek - we will get 4.3 with Sense 5.0.

I think this is the end for the hox and the hox+. Because if they make the effort to update it to 4.3 sense 5.5 would come with it. Thats my thinking
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 4

If you want latest updates buy a Nexus device. If you want sense you know you won't get updates after 1 or 1,5 year. It's nothing new. You knew it the moment you bought the One X.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app

Well, if you guys actually read the changelog, 70% of the Sense 5.5 features are basically our own Sense 5.0 features. The reason for this is that most One's in the US were stuck on 4.1.2 while we were getting our 4.2.2 update. So to avoid wasting time, HTC announced they'd skip 4.2.2 for the One and jump straight to 4.3. So most of the things in 4.3 Sense 5.5 is basically from out own Sense 5.0, it's just finally making it to devices which were deprived from 4.2.2 unlike us.
As for 4.3 for the One X, I really don't mind if we don't get it. I like Sense 5. I'm not the kinda guy who NEEDS the bleeding edge of OS updates. I'm just the average Joe who just needs something nice to use. 4.2.2 is good one the One X and I don't mind it staying on it till I replace it in the future. Even if I get tired, there's always aftermarket ROMs so the options are not limited. I know I can't speak for everyone because I have a Nexus 7 which is always up-to-date but believe me when I say there are more days then not when I actually prefer using my 4.2.2 Sense 5 over the 4.3 in my N7
All I can say is just enjoy your phones. Compared to TW updates or Sony updates which sometimes f*ck your old devices up, HTC actually didn't with our update besides, what's in 4.3 that we NEED that badly in our phones ? The only thing I see actually worth the update is Bluetooth 4.0 support and even that's not really for me but more for the One X owners who threw a hissy fit about Sense not supporting it and felt scammed.

If I'm honest I'm perfectly happy with my hox. It's not been the flagship for a good while but update still happened and many facets from future updates will likely be brought to hox on xda once enough time passes and people feel like it.
Don't expect but couldn't ask for more

Well, if samsung S3 will get it (same specifics) like HOX why we do not get 4.3?
BUT if they dont care for costumers we have our way to punish bad costumer care brands.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app

Well... The only thing that I really want from sense 5.5 is the RSS support for blinkfeed - it will make it alot more usable for me, right now I dont use it because feedly is much better for my RSS subscriptions. Furthermore, the only thing that I want from 4.3 is the trim feature, but I have root and I use the trim app..so maybe it's not a must.
Anyway next phone for me is nexus, even though sense is just better than any other UI in the market IMHO.

Suggestions for my Desire replacemet phone

So, for almost a year now, I have HTC Desire and for about 6 months run Desire HD rom on it...
Just wondering what will be the best replacement to it in upcoming summer.
From what I saw, nothing really worth to replace for but was I wrong ?
And it need to be GSM... any suggestions will be great.
Thanks
Lior
I think Desire S is a good option
Sensation is worth it desire s is basically the desire with software we've ported and is as fast on data++
I would wait for one of the new dual core phones. Sounds like there are going to be some badass ones coming out in the last half of 2011.
for me:
dual core,
tegra or better
4.3" or bigger screen (desire is too small for me)
the important ones:
must be rootable and have community support like the desire. can't rely on carriers/manuf to upgrade phone
wait for sensation or evo 3d gsm
these are the future because desire/incredible S
came out at a wrong time they won't be upgradeable to sense 3.0 unless by ports thus, their updates will be very limited like our official gingerbread update we're still on sense 1.9 :'(
but i'm running an S rom
and i know these will be my replacement phones

Definetely going for the Sensation!
I will get SGS2. I think Samsung did better job than HTC this year - better hardware in a smaller package.
Thank you all. I think too that desire S is not a proper replacement because it didn't really bring any upgrades so I wait a little bit more.
Not interested in other manufactures since I really like htc.

The HTC rep gave me a seek preview of the sensation yesterday at the gadget show and it is sensational, it was a pre release and had an lcd screen instead of the super LED that will be fitted, it also had some pre release software but was super quick with the dual core.
That is my next phone after the desire

I'd get the HTC Sensation or a variant of it. Once it comes out, it will be the only real upgrade from HTC that we know of, all other phones are kind of on the same level.
That of course, if you want to stay with HTC.
After I saw it's specs, it is lead replacement for me for now.

Same here! My new phone MUST have at least these features
I'd go for the Sensation if i had to, but actually i think i'll wait till the first 2ghz dual-core hits the floor
Why on earth would you want to replace a perfect phone?!
I really wanted to get an Incredible S its a nice size and a nice looking device. But it like the Desire S seems to have lost the HTC DNA with the bootloader now being signed and it being hard to crack. Its out for 2 months and still not rooted. Desire is still better than these devices IMO. Same might be story for sensation

[Q] HTC One X...will you be getting one?

For me, my Desire HD does WAYYYY more than I need, which is cool....but the geeky side of me is starting to twitch when I saw this:
HTC One X
http://www.htc.com/uk/smartphones/htc-one-x/
http://androidheadlines.com/2012/03/htc-one-x-specifications-first-take.html
"HTC has stated that they took a bit of a downturn last year releasing too many devices and adding too much to their once lauded Sense UI. For 2012 they intend to attack the smartphone market with a renewed sense of purpose and with an entirely new line of products with the recently announced HTC One line. The headliner of the new trio is the HTC One X announced at Mobile World Congress as a Tegra 3 sporting quad core beast of a phone meant to put HTC back on the map.
The requirements for being part of the One series are Authentic Sound which is provided by the integrated Beats Audio and an Amazing Camera with HTC’s own image software and new ImageChip. In the U.S. however the One X will feature a dual core 1.5Ghz Snapdragon because when the phone was being designed to run on AT&T’s LTE network the Tegra 3 did not support LTE though it does now so the U.S. version suffers on the front. It will however ship with the latest version of Sense 4.0 and Ice Cream Sandwich."

never-mind answered my own question. it will work as long as it operates on a 850 and 1900mhz bands! sweet!!!!!
hoping it will be....
what a specs? hoping it will be released by May here in downUnder, that's when am eligible for an early upgrade...cant wait...
I'm not due an upgrade until December (stupid 2 year contract!) but this is already shaping up to be the phone I get. Looks awesome and nice specs too + with any luck by the time I do upgrade the community will already have some awesome custom ROMs released. I'll be happy not to be an early adopter for once
Either the x or the v...but weirdly I'm hoping that dome devs release an asop to her...from what I've seen with sense 4 yeah looks a bit different but not majorly overhauled...but then how would the dropbox work...surely it'd have to be linked to the handset...so custom roms...hmm lol who knows...but sadly yes I will have the urge to get one...can't help myself

I love my HD2, but it is starting to get a bit dated!
I bought DHD about 15 months back it has served as a good replacement for my Nokia N79, but the battery life is really bad in this. I have just purchased GT-N7000 Hope to get some good juice out of it before I think of going for One X, sure One X has better specs then any current Android mobile, but you may want to wait for Samsung S3.

[Q] Time to upgrade........

OK, its time to upgrade my trusty DHD.....
...but what gets my hard-earned (no, really) pennies?
To me there are 4 options........
1) HTC One X
2) Samsung Galaxy Note
3) Wait until the 30th and get the Samsung Galaxy SIII
4) Keep the DHD for another 12 months and benefit from a cheaper contract.
So, if it was your pennies getting spent, where would they be going?
I'm going to post this question in the HOX, SGN, and SGS3 forums too, to (try to) get a balanced view.
I was already to get the Note, then I picked one up and it's a Samsung. It was like Agent J and the noisy cricket. The One X still pisses me off with it's non removable battery and no external storage slot. The SGS III will be a Samsung. I don't understand why their phones feel so cheap. HTC's plastics aren't that toy-like.
Sprint's Evo LTE gives me hope though. It's nearly a One X with a bigger, though still not removable, battery and it has a micro sd slot. Maybe the next upgrade for the "flagship" will get them also.
Just my thoughts but I guess I would wait to see what else is coming. The SGS III may be better than I think or maybe something else can make me a fool.
I'm liking ICS on it now and it will only get better when the official update comes out.
Sent using the power of the dark side.
Thanks BLG - I know where you are coming from.
Having owned 5 HTC devices on the spin, I feel a little grubby myself considering Samsungs! ;-)
However, here lies part of the problem - I think I'm bored of HTC, and the One X and One S are just so.... safe looking. Where is the design flair? Plus, I've never been much of a ROM flasher (although I did put Vegacomb on my tablet), preferring to have a device that works rather than list the compromises and things which dont quite work properly, so stock Sense is now getting very stale indeed.
Maybe I need to turn to the dark side briefly just to satisfy my curiosity that the grass isnt always greener?
I'm sure I will go wrap my mitts around the SGS III asap. I just want my next device to look, feel and dammit, smell better than what I have. Besides, touchwiz is just
UGLY.

Hmmmm, an interesting alternative, there. Whatever I decide, I'll probably keep the DHD anyway and use it as a test device for flashing/generally mucking about.
I've decided (with a feeling of I'm cheating on a loved one) to get a Note online, then I can return it under distance selling laws if I find it unbearable to live with.
Genuinely, many thanks to all who have contributed to this thread. Your insight has been much appreciated.

Although playing around with the various DHD custon ROMs and having the freedom of Android has been enjoyable; I'm now thinking I just want a phone that works and doesn't need to be mucked around with. Was tossing up Windows Phone, maybe the HTC Titan as an upgrade. Thoughts?

Jelly bean for one v?

We know that jb will come officially for the one x, but what about one v? Some say that the processor isnt good enough for jb, while some say that the one series is the flagship series of htc and they cant leave one v out! So what do you say? Lets have a good discussion!

I think it will be quite a bummer if the "flagship" One series's V won't get the update to 4.1
HTC rewrites the UI quite much so it will be time to rewrite everything to the One V, but I think it would be done in time.
And not to forget that JB is practicaly a patch for ICS, so I think V will be capable of the system.
YES, One V *WILL* get JellyBean

JellyBean isn't something like Android 5 or 6. It's just 4.1.
Also, many people have bought One V as it's really cheaper than One X and One S and has the same IceCreamSandwich (just the HTC Sense 4.0 UI is a lite version). People like One V more than One X and One S (yes I've seen such people too!) as it can actually be called a "phone" which fits it the pocket and is easy to use. One S and One X have bigger screen size which is obviously little difficult to handle and the One S and One X are really costly (it's not worth buying just a "mobile phone" for this price). One V has the chin too! My friend specially bought One V for chin!
When anyone would like to buy an HTC phone and sees the One Series, probably the first choice be One X but the person will buy One V for sure if he is a budget-like person (who doesn't buy things more than his budget).
Moreover, there aren't many things for HTC to do for getting JellyBean for One V. It's just 4.1!

Totally wrong!
One V is not "flagship" at all. You cannot call "flagship" a phone that has 512 mb ram and a cpu that is 2 years old. This phone will PROBABLY NOT get Jelly Bean as an official rom, but then again, only time can tell.
AND JELLY BEAN IS NOT A PATCH FOR ICS!
If this is called 4.1 it doesn't mean this is a patch! Have you read what Jelly bean brings to Android OS? Changes are internally, not externally as in graphics and widgets. You all are expecting new theme instead of new code implemented and things rewriten just to make Android moving alot faster.
Have you ever heard of project BUTTER? This is the new stuff implemented in Jelly Bean. What this does? Well on short, GPU + CPU = UI RENDERING (as in Sense Rendering). Right now, ALL of Android OS'es are working like this CPU = UI RENDERING.
So Project Butter will make Android working at 60 fps, by activating GPU alongside CPU to make the UI rendering and thus not stressing so much the CPU that will have time and resources to do other stuff (such as running apps in background better etc.)
The One series is a premium line including the V. The mid-low line HTCs this year are called Desire. This is close to what Ken-Shi-Kun is saying. As the device was just released in April 2012 and HTC is marketing it as premuim (regardless of the 1 core CPU), it has lots of development life left.
Also, Jelly Bean shares critical hardware-side components such as drivers with ICS. This greatly reduces headache for the developers. For now, all of us are speculating.

Even if htc does decide to give jelly bean to our devices, it's going to be bloated with so much crapware(read:sense) that I'm sure the effects of project butter will not be seen.
I think we're better off waiting for this device to get more development and maybe cm10 will come for it.

Plus HTC tries to upgrade most of its devices releases in last 2 years, so I guess maybe it will take longer for One V to get JB than S or X but eventually it will.

no! JB is DIFFERENT from ICS. TOTALLY!
user interface remained the same, yes! but the changes are internally, on how the UI is rendered. basically the transitions and overall speed will get increased 100%!
Also, HTC is going to use its own launcher
Those new expanding notifications and the resizable widgets will most probably get disposed, or worse, "sensed".
Good read on what's new in project butter:

guys, we WILL get jellybean...probably slightly watered down to what the other ONE series devices will get, but we will get it...all depends on HTC and your Network....here's an example... my girlfriend has the Xperia ARC and Sony released ICS for it officially back in april\may her network provider STILL hasn't released it for her phone

[Q] Planning to buy HTC One X- beginner questions

Hello!
I'm new to the forums and Android. Right now, I'm an owner of an iPhone 3GS.
I'm getting a new phone because I'm sick of all the lagging and Apple may not create apps/games for my old 3GS anymore.
Now, to my questions.
1. Does One X lag (even a little) when browsing internet, playing games or even in Android.
2. I plan on getting the EU version, which should be 32GB and quadcore(not really a question, just claryfing).
3. Can I root ANY version of One X?
4. Should I root? What are the advantages and disadvantages?
5. How does the Flash Player work? Can I like play online games which require flash player?
6. Should I buy a case, if yes, which? I was using iSkin on my 3GS, but they dont make one for HTCs.
7. Will I be able to install ANY version of Android which comes out?
8. I want a top-end smartphone. Is there some kind of app/game that One X cant run?
Thanks in advance!

I'm no expert so will try and answer your questions to the best of my knowledge.
1. I've had my One X for a couple of months and am more than happy, I'm still on 1.29 Orange UK and browsing and games are pretty good, I've no complaints anyway. I believe some people said phone got better with the 2.17 update.
2. There is a thread about a 16GB version, I think someone got one from dialaphone UK, just double check.
3. I'm pretty sure you can root any version, but might have a little wait if newer FW comes out. Someone with more knowledge might be able to confirm this better.
4 Root is just like jailbreak on Iphone, I always root mine so I can delete all stuff I dont want.
5. I don't play online games but flash works for me, I watch football at work at night.
6. Case is entirely your choice.
7. Who knows? but I assume we'll be able OK for a couple of years (updates).
8. Some people might have problems with some apps they use, mine work fine.
Hope this helps you a bit. Overall I'm more than happy with my HOX. I had a Galaxy S2 then went to the Sony Xperia S for a few weeks and then onto the HOX
I would wait for the one x+ that's got a bigger screen 1.7ghz tegra 3 and lte

If your rooting plan is to upgrade to the latest version of android...eg jellybean, beat in mind that flash is no longer supported, thus harder to install and update

Looks like I'll wait for the HTC One X+, the release date should be in early October.

Bigger screen? Like 0.1" bigger to match the s3 ?
Doesn't need a bigger screen bigger battery would be better.
To op, beauty of android means that you can complie any android and port it to any device.
So yeah newer versions of android should be updated by HTC or Xda.

Uhm, I think I've read somewhere that the HOX+ should have 4.5'' screen?
Hox+ should be the same as the One X but with quad and lte. I don't think they will downsize the screen.
If you need lte then go for the One X+ if you don't then go with the international One X as the development is better than any other variant as of the moment.
Official jelly bean is due very soon rumours early as next month so it'll get even better!

5inc screen and a replaceable battery I think it sounds really good they say they fixed all the problems we had with this one

Well, now I've found out about HTC One XXL which should have 2GB RAM and 1.6GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon, so yeah, I might even wait for that one...
Guess I'll just wait and see when One X+ and One XXL comes out and I'll decide.
