Link2SD and SD Card Partition query
I dont know if queries have to be posted here, or a new thread has to be created, Anyways, please move this post if necessary.
I want to install huge games on my Xperia M C1904 on JB 4.1 Rooted
I purchased a Sandisk UHS 16 GB Class 10 card
So far, i was managing well with GL2SD as it is really hassle free. But i want to install some games which are nearly 2 GB and for this case GL2SD cant cut it cuz of the meager internal memory of Xperia M (the moving hassle). SO i have decided to another alternative=> Link2SD with a partitioned SD card
So can anyone give me a step by step guide on how to -----
1) Partition my SD card, and can i un-partition it later? Please recomend simple methods...
2) How to use the partitioned SD card for Link 2 SD? As in what to do after partitioning the SD card into two parts...
3) What are the risks involved?
4) I want to allocate 8/14.8 GB to Games and the remaining 6.2/14.8 GB for videos and songs. As in more preference for apps and games.
I am a noob, so kindly use simple terms and assume that i am like 10 year old or something

Hello there. This is the right place to post questions. At least, keeps the forum clean.
Xperia M sure is a disappointment with internal storage, but then, that's why it runs Android.
Well, to be quite frank, Link2SD is useless in your case. What happens in Jelly Bean is very different from what happened in Gingerbread. In Gingerbread, Google made it so that the apk file and the dex file remain on your internal storage, while you could move the data of the application to an external sdcard.
What Link2SD basically does is that it links the data of the app to an external partition. On Jelly Bean, there is no option at all to move app data to sdcard. So the best bet would be for you to try the trick I mention below.
With the advent of Jelly Bean, manufacturers were already making phones with huge internal storage, so Google felt it safe to remove the option to move apps to the sdcard.
What you can do though, is to switch your internal with your external memory. You don't have to partition it that way and can install as many games or music as you want.
Your sdcard is mounted as your internal storage while your internal is mounted as the external. So now, you will have an Xperia M with 16 GB internal storage. I will put up a guide shortly on how to do that.
Be sure to use a class 10 micro sdcard though, as continuous read and write will degrade the sdcard.

I'm sorry to inform you, but the Xperia M hasn't got any support for CM as of yet. It might get in the near future, but not presently.
Also, almost all the Xperias don't have a stock recovery installed by default. That is the reason you can't get into recovery mode. You have to flash ClockworkMod Recovery before you can boot into recovery mode.

Since you are a new member of this forum, may I first welcome you here.
As gadgetroid already pointed out, we don't yet have any custom ROMs. Some work is being done, but it will take time, so please be patient. I hope you can understand that porting CyanogenMod or any other ROMs to a device is not a simple job.
Lastly, I suggest you read all the existing information on the Xperia M forum sections. They really contain a lot of useful information.
Wish you a good time here!

I've already answered a similar question, but I'll answer again.
Jelly Bean is very different from Gingerbread. App2SD was a very integral feature in Gingerbread because Google had integrated it themselves in their AOSP source code. So this meant that users didn't have to root their phones to move app data to SD and could simply use the built in feature. For users coming from Eclair or FroYo, this was a very great feature.
But by the time Google had released Honeycomb, manufacturers had already started manufacturing devices with huge internal storages (at least flagship and high end phones). This meant that Android no longer needed the App2SD feature.
Google have removed it from the source code in Jelly Bean. The data of the app can't be symlinked to another place. The only way to increase the internal storage would be to swap it with the SD card, which I am working on at the moment. Unfortunately, the usual vold.fstab edit doesn't seem to work, so I have to edit the code in services.jar.
Rest assured, I am working on this issue and will release the guide shortly.

display and camera quality
HI, this is my first post here, I need to decide to by this phone or not, could you please let me know your feedback about display and camera quality since I read lot of reviews pointing to bad camera quality (blue tint)? I that something really bad or you can live with it (my major target is to have good picture to upload on Facebook). Another option for me is to go on Desire X which is better looking but has older hardware,
Thanks in advance for your feedback!

You are using the Xperia Z swap tutorial if I'm not mistaken. If you can point me to the tutorial, I can help you a lot better.
The problem you seem to be facing is due to the naming of the partitions. On the M, the sdcard is actually mounted as a USB device instead of as an external storage. This is the reason I said that the normal vold.fstab method of swapping the memories won't work.
We have to change a few lines in the services.jar, so I'm just taking a look into that.

No. That is not so. OEMs usually never release a pure AOSP build for their phones. Most of TouchWiz is close sourced, just like HTC's Sense and Xperia's own skin is.
But, an AOSP build is in the works, so stay tuned to the forums.

Thanks in Advance OP

Xperia M is a good device. The Krait core is just an added bonus.
The Xperia M is pretty good with battery life. I get around a day on 3G (The Simpson's: Tapped Out for an hour or so, Google+ a few times during the day, Hangouts for at least 3 hours and Twitter on and off), on 2G, a day and a half. Almost all Xperia's have power management tools provided OOTB by Sony, and that's a huge plus.
The Xperia M has good potential ahead, and devs have already shown interest in compiling CM for it. Sony itself will be updating the M to 4.3 in the Q1 of 2014, so that's taken care of too.
I would choose the single SIM variant any day just for developments sake. Dual SIM has no support in AOSP. But it's ultimately up to you which variant you want to buy. Best of luck.

Ya The call bug will be fixed when willing fix that bug in cm7.I am not a developer like skilledchaos or willingmagic.I can only theme some apps and some xml editing.
Guess i'll wait for willingmagic. Is there anyway to use Arkas kernels to replace the current MIUI kernel? I quite like his OC'd kernels up to 825MHz and governors

That is probably a bug needing to be fixed.
I have tried the Sony Xperia and IPhone themes, both clocks are messed up in different colours, then switching back to default i either have Xperia's blue or Iphone's white colour clock.

I believe that issue isn't ROM related, I had that issue before and found out that formatting your SD card will solve the problem, just do a backup before you proceed on reformatting your SDcard.
The camera gives off a 660x495 pixel photo even though i selected 2000x1000 option
Also the USB Storage problem. I also have it and i don't really want to format it as it contains some important stuff, so how will i be able to do a SD backup without the mass storage? Just like pyriyesh103 my phone reboots after enabling the usb storage
Anyway to fix this?

Your microSD should have came with a larger card so card readers can read SD
If you have a recent... maybe 2010+ Laptop, there should be card readers already installed (not including ultra books, netbooks may have it)
Heres what i mean
Insert that into Card Reader, that is connected onto your PC or laptop
And copy all the files to 'backup'
I think that was what John was meaning

@ifrit723 ya thanks for explaining
Or use QTADB
http://qtadb.wordpress.com/
Download the software on your windows
then use this software
its like root explorer but from pc
which can communicate with your pc and phone at same time.and can copy files from pc to /sdcard or /system and vice versa
Its like Android Commander but easy to use.
And this time I am working on a ICS theme for Gingerbread but need some buddies (about 3-4) who can help me in themeing as i can not complete it alone because i cant give much time (preparing for iit and 12th this year)

ARC S creating partition + moving apps

hi,
i have successfully rooted my ARC S phone & installed Super Jelly Bean by Harsh586 (thanks to him). i would like to know how do i increase the size of the 400mb internal memory (i have 16gb micro sd high speed card inside my phone). also do i need to install ClockworkMod Recovery since i already have fusion 5.4 installed ?
last question can i install themes from google play because i'm not really big fan of the stock jelly bean theme.
for themes i think you can use a launcher that support themes like go launcher... just search in play store...
for internal memory http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2162233&highlight=swap
use the search of the forum and you will get all your answers..

is really easy to make a partition work, but you have to see if your kernel and rom supports it!
just follow the threads that i have mentioned above and it will be alright..
i never tried jelly bean roms, only ultimate hd and i think that in overall its a very nice rom, fast, stable, good for games, good camera, and supports partitions...

[Tutorial][primou gsm] HOV and Sphongle, if you (d)(c)are...

I like tutorials on XDA !!! :good::good::good:
Really. :victory:
If you didn't read at least 10 (ten) of them, you're NOOB!
OK, that's what I did with my hov, primou gsm. With TWRP 2.6.3 recovery. Link: http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/primou/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-primou.img
First of all, you are already rooted!!! If not, follow guidelines on XDA, like: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598964 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1713257 or use WinDroid HTC One V Toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...m.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600510 as it's based on Shpongle rom. BIG BIG THANKS Aiko0923!!! :victory::fingers-crossed::highfive:
1. Download latest shpongle rom, (or 20130521 version without Halo): http://www.mediafire.com/download/m5kk9ohj4bqs7o9/shpongle_primou_20130521.zip THANKS Seraz007) and kernel to pc: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230656 Yeah, also gapps, if you don't have them already. I personally use Ironman Kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2367804 It's up to you...
2, Factory reset
3. Backup sd card to pc
4. Wipe sd card
5. Reboot into recovery
6. In recovery, wipe system and everything else in advanced wipe, everything!!!
7. In recovery, copy backup of sd card from pc to phone sd card (shpongle, gapps and everything else you want included, of course). If you don't know how to mount sd in twrp, ignore everything before and after…
8. Flash kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747168. Program is discontinued, but working like a charm!!! THANKS shubhamchamaria Now, of course, you can use also WinDroid HTC One V Toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471243 THANKS WindyCityRockr or Android Ultimate Toolbox Pro: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886562 THANKS despotovski01. It's up to you which tool U use, not just for kernel install, also for recovery, apks...
9. Boot into recovery
10. Flash latest shpongle rom (or 20130521, without Halo) Again, up to you...
11. Reboot system
12. Reboot recovery
13. Flash gapps
14. Reboot system
15. Add whatever apk you need... and you're on your own...
Then I installed (if you don't like that apps, forget):
- V6 SuperCharger: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276 Awsome!!! Thanks zeppelinrox It's not for noobs. Read carefully!!!. Sorry if you brick your hov, your fault!
- Turbo boost: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145133 Triple swap, recommended values… (Edit: use guideline in post #4, if you experience any trouble. BIG THANKS to nereis) also, some users suggest to use just 50 MB in /cache. I still have 75 and everything working well, but... SOME SUGGEST that SwapItOn is better idea: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2359182 - up to you!
- CrossBreeder: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2113150, don't touch a thing, unless you know why…
- Viper4Android (sound) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223
- One Power Guard (battery) – still the best, forget other battery apps… http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1947559 - - NOW EVEN BETTER: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47760222 Some users said that there are better battery apps out there... Please, use them, I just like that, because it's working for me...
For 3rd party camera, install what you like, here's the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314084
Yeah, like many said, I forgot to mention Greenify: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify Well, 'cause I believe that you all use it anyway...
I found also that GravityBox: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2316070 is working like a charm.
Also XblastTools are great: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2294419.
You can tweak, well, a lot... However, GravitiBox and XblastTools are almost (I said almost) identical, so choose one (works for me, but I will not tell which one1).
I DID ALSO FOLLOWING (PLEASE, PLEASE, you're doing that on YOUR OWN):
While on Shpongle and Ironman kernel, I did:
- S-OFF: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2558740 (no problems at all, I have on PC Win 7 Ultimate, x64)
- Remove Red Text: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2164185 (like a charm...)
- Change CID: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48317726&postcount=4 (super CID now...)
- Change Splash Screen: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48373936&postcount=14 (perfect...)
AGAIN, you're doing that on your own. Your hov may differ from mine a lot!!!
Oh, and, please thank 1ceb0x for everything!!!!! Without him, we would be blind…
But now we have our new hero: Aiko0923: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600510
Nice post. I will link it to shpongle OP today.

just found out that when you flash turbo boost, it disables the swap that comes with Shpongle ROM flash.
Fix the permissions of 01swap in init.d (chmod 775) and you would get a lot more swap space. Might as well use it since that internal SD isn't being mounted anyway.

First, THANK YOU!!!
Second, well, I read all posts in Turbo Boost, and, if I'm not completely wrong, idea of Turbo Boost is, to disable system swap and replace it with it's own... So, of course, also Shpongle's swap is disabled...
Third, I made change you suggested, everything is working excellent, I (unfortunately) can not see any difference... :good:
Fourth, I updated OP with your tip/trick... :victory:

First, I think we need to assess the pros/cons of swap, and this would highly depend on your usage pattern.
I have another similar spec'd low RAM device that has is running on stripped down barebones (Greenify most stuff, modded autostart receivers..etc) and its working well without any zram/swap. For the HOV I decided the internal nand can take some abuse and still outlast the irreplaceable battery, so making use of unused internal space since we cannot change the partition layouts makes sense.
Pros:
1. More RAM (technically swapped out stuff isn't in the RAM) but we have increased multi-tasking capability
Cons:
1. Slow I/O reading/writing to the NAND as opposed to fast RAM
2. Risk the NAND dies and your phone goes dead
3. More CPU overhead to organize all the I/O, and even more if you use compression like KSM (I think this is still a worthwhile compromise to reduce the amount of data written)
Using swap makes the phone slower in general, but you can also do much more with it. If you like lots of stuff open in the background, browse web pages while listening to music, switch between apps to copy stuff back and forth, this is a nice compromise.
If you are going to use swap, I would say you might as well use lots of it! That is even if you don't see an improvement.
You are spreading out the writing stress across a larger number of cells, get more multi-tasking capability for the phone and see low memory killer work much less often.

Well, i tried, i wiped everything, sd card included. Then I installed Shpongle from "scratch", gapps, then just CrossBreeder, without TurboBoost. Everything was working, but I noticed lags here and now... I tried, also testing battery duration... :victory:
No FC, no reboots, no bad things at all (Latest Shpongle and latest Ironman kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2367804).
Then I put TurboBoost on. Difference is like compact car to F1... Sorry, I totally got/understood what you wrote, but, at least for my hov, TurboBoost is awesome... :fingers-crossed:

I think you might have misunderstood something.
I do recommend using Turbo Boost, but on top of that, also use the internal sd partition as swap. (01swap that comes with Shppongle)
Flashing Turbo Boost changes permissions of 01swap in init.d and disables it.
I believe the logic assumes if you are already mounting a swap file, it's a swap file made on a slower external sd card, but that is not the case with 01swap on HOV.
If you enable 01swap again then you would effectively have 4 Swaps.

Swap SD and so on

Hi Guys,
I already read about any post (not that much ) about the internal storage problem.
There are loads of guides and how to´s but I simply don´t know which one to use.
The problem I am facing to:
There are guides that say the game data will be moved to the sdcard after editing some lines in files and there are guides for a complete swap.
I would like to use Navigon with the full european card material (>2GB)
I got the C1905 with the newest ROM build 15.1.C.2.8
Which guide should I follow to get the best efficiency?
Do I need a CLASS 10 sdcard or is a CLASS 4 also useable?
Thanks!
Hey don't use the script here Is the easiest method to move game data to sd card
m.youtube.com/watch?v=E9xZTWlJkL0&fulldescription=1&client=mv-google&gl=IN&guid=&hl=en-GB
And for the sd card you can use a class10 sd card for the best efficiency...

well it´s rooted - was no problem thanks! but i still can´t move the data.
using for example: the simpsons the game or copilot live navigation.
any tip?
got the t-mobile rom btw
By using this trick u can move games with data I will not move the games which does not have additional data.....to move games like that u can use linktosd...

Swapping the whole thing would be much easier IMHO. You do it once and it moves everything. And you don't need any other apps.
