For those who got this as a pseudo tablet? its been almost 6 weeks I got the beauty and about 2 weeks since I got the allshare cast, and I haven't touched my roku or asus media player
Note 2 is everything for me, after using it so much, the screen size is normal to me ( compared to my previous S3 ) but I really don't mind it being slightly bigger - about 6"

Cnet: Galaxy Note 3 with 6.3-inch display reportedly in the works
The rumor is that 6.3" will be the next screen size. Whether this is true remains to be seen. Too early to tell.
With a 16:9 aspect ratio for the screen, that would mean the width of the phone would grow approximately 0.375" more, or 3.5". (Note II's width is 3.125".)
Personally, I actually like the idea. I probably wouldn't even mind a 7" (Approximately 7.25" if I go by 9cm x 16cm.) screen if they keep to the edge thinness around the screen, if not thinner. That should allow the growth of the phone to be as minimal as possible. Of course, I'd stop at 7" for the max size I wouldn't mind on my phone. Any larger and many people will definitely start having problems holding their phones edge to edge.

General Thread - thus the question
I am basically saying that since many of us got this as pseudo tablet, it would be nice to have a slightly bigger screen so we could read ebooks etc
When I got the S3, screen seemed big and then we get used to it, same with the note - but we could increase that threshold to perfection
Its still a phone man...are u kidding? if thats the case u gonna expect them to make it 8 inches next year???

I know but much better than carrying 2 devices, what I am saying it would satisfy being a tablet and a regular phone if it was slightly more bigger
I have no issues carrying it now, hands have plenty more room
I wouldn't care for a larger screen so much as I would like Samsung to natively support a better pixel density so that I could fit more onto the screen. Something like 182 instead of the default 240(?).
If they kept the phone the same size, but increased the screen size, it would not be too bad.
I'm wondering if the next Note could eliminate the home button. That would be one way of increasing screen real estate, without making the device too much larger. It could go fully-touchscreen, as Jelly Bean devices are supposed to be, anyway. However, I think the home button has sort of become synonymous with the Galaxy line of devices, so it may stay. I would love 6 - 6.3" inches on the new Note. I wouldn't have issues with mobility.

I would like to see no home button and screen extended all the way up and down. 6"-6,3" screen would be awesome.
I am fine as is hope they don't make the size of the phone bigger. If they can make screen bigger but keep same size I am OK with that.

I used to think I'd want a Note 3 to have a 6" screen with small bezels and no home button. Now that I've played with my Note 2 for a week, I'm guessing I'll prefer going the other way. I'd rather have a 5" 1080p phone with very thin side bezels, a thin top bezel, and a thicker bottom bezel with 5 configurable capacitive buttons (I have a Nexus 7 and I like most things Nexus, but disagree with the move to on-screen buttons which most of the time waste real-estate). I'd be fine with a thicker phone too though to get an even bigger battery - heck, I'll take 4000 mAh or more, now that I know what 3100 can do. I knew the Note 2 was long and had tried mockups before buying, but now that I have the real thing, it's a bit too long for me - not a deal breaker, but I no longer think about going bigger. By the time 5" 1080p screens are common items and I upgrade from the Note 2, I hope there will be lots of options, some with pens (which I'm not convinced I need, but an interesting thing to try), and ideally, some without Touchwiz which I really don't like so far - I'm sure I'll be trying a ROM with a more Nexus like experience before I'm done with this phone. This has absolutely no chance in hell of happening, for a plethora of reasons.
1) It would be going backwards, when sales of the Galaxy Note line have proven that people like phones with really large screens, so Samsung backtracking to anything smaller that 5.5" inches would be stupid, and would eventually run into product overlap.
2) The product overlap would come with the rumored Galaxy S4. The S4 is strongly rumored to have a 5" screen. There's probably a good chance it will also have 1080p, but I sort of doubt it. At any rate, there would be no business case for Samsung to have two products that are virtually identical. The S III already shares a significant amount of the Note IIs features, sans having an S Pen. You make a Note III with a 5" screen and you'll just have an S4 with an S Pen. That's utterly asinine.
3) I'm willing to bet the vast majority of people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a 720p screen and a 1080p screen. This is just the hype for this year. Seems like every year there a new hype geared towards sheep and ill-informed people. One year it was 3D technology. Last year it was quad core technology. This year its 1080p. Another year photo pixels were all the rave. Another year Apple's retina display was all the rave. Pretty much none of those things mean jack s*** in the grand scheme of things. I remember when I was going to purchase a new 40"+ 3D LED TV. I read many reviews to see if there was a huge difference between 720p and full-1080p HD. EVERY review stated that the only time the difference between 720p & 1080p became noticeable and worth considering, was when you had a screen larger than 40". So, if that's true, there's no way in hell anyone is seeing a noteworthy screen difference in a device as small as a cellular phone. At one point, I had a 720p Plasma HDTV and a 3D LED HDTV, simultaneously. To be honest, I was more impressed with the display on my 720p plasma, than I am on my 1080p 3D TV I ended up keeping. And I only kept the 3D television because it was packed with more features that sort of leveled the playing field.
If you desire as smaller phone, the great thing about Android, is that there's seemingly an endless array of phones to choose from. Get an S III or S4 or DNA or Nexus. Sounds like the Note II isn't a good fit for you.
Currently I'm sure I can't tell the difference between 1280x720 and 1920x1080 for a 5" display. When I finally break down and admit I'm old enough to use reading glasses (which I should have done years ago as my close focus distance moved from 7" where it used to be to 13" now), then I suspect I will be able to tell the difference when holding my phone closer than 8". Other than focus, I have no issue holding my phone that close and I'll be able to get that much more detail into my brain (from maps, text, whatever). You can call 1080p hype if you want, but I think it is still actual progress. I don't know what photo pixels are, and I was not interested in 3D myself, but 1080p I am optimistic about.
Sorry if I'm not following thread rules or something - I'm just saying what I was thinking. I agree that Samsung Note 3 will quite likely go bigger, especially if the S4 is bigger. Who knows, anything could happen by the time I get another phone - maybe the glasses concept will be so appealing, I'll go that route.
I chose the Note II because a) I wanted a 5" or more display, b) I wanted to try out the s-pen concept which I don't know if it will be for me or not till I try, c) I wanted a big battery, and SD storage, d) I don't want to change carriers since as much as I don't like AT&T for many reasons, I'm on a family plan which I don't want to change and they are the only carrier with good coverage over my work campus. I ruled out the Nexus 4 and the Droid DNA pretty fast though I looked at them. I absolutely didn't need LTE and my data experience with AT&T around Los Angeles for a few days and Las Vegas for a few days has been very unimpressive - no better than my previous 3GS iPhone. Hopefully that will improve as the network improves.
Anyway, it's pretty early to speculate now - I better get back to figuring out how to use my phone to get my core iPhone use cases working again: podcasts, visual voicemail (both of these use cases require installing add on software I've found), offline topographic maps (I have 3 programs I've been trying on the Nexus 7), and a few other things. For ROMs, the HyperNote sounded the most interesting to me, but it seems like the AT&T model won't run many ROMs yet (e.g. no HyperNote yet) - I hope this is some transitional issue as porting ROMs from the International to the various carrier versions (which is a huge annoyance to me that this fracturing even exists) is worked out.

This. I wouldn't want anything physically bigger, but if they can remove more bezel (and NOT remove physical buttons), That would be sweet.
After returning my previous nexus 7 because of a dead pixel, I'm happy to confirm my new new nexus 7 is working perfectly! No GPS problems, no dead pixels, no super weird touchscreen problems.
But here's a thing I'm uncertain about. I can confirm this happened on both JSSR66N and JSS15R. Although I don't have phantom touches, and my screen supports 10 finger multi touch, there's a little bit of interference when using two fingers: when I hold one finger steady and slowly move another finger so that one of the axles is aligned, the screen registers movement in that same axle on the non moving finger as well. Usually It jumps about 10 pixels.
This results in unsmooth aiming when playing fps games, or other 2-thumb games. It's not game breaking or anything, its just noticeable.
I was wondering if this is normal for capacitive touchscreens, if its just a software bug, or maybe it is indeed a hardware issue in MY tablet, in which case it can be returned, since I'm on day 3 of my 14 day return period.
It isn't normal for touchscreens in general.
However on the Nexus 7 2013, many units will exhibit this behavior. If you don't have any other issues, I wouldn't return it for what you are describing. There are far worse issues you might encounter.
This behaviour is pretty normal for touchscreen when crossing axis with two fingers.

The nexus 7 just has a batch of issues. That is not normal, try it out on a different device like a Nexus 4, HTC One or any other device that doesn't have a crop of issues.

You are not talking much about this in the forum, i don't know if people don't realise about it or just don't have it but there's a big issue with the grounding of many devices. In a Spanish forum we have a big post open about it, one is back from asus and mine is going tomorrow. Mine works well, not perfect, in my hands but over a table works bad, it changes a lot. I guess it works as the creator from the thread says.
I haven't seen a capacitive touch screen that doesn't have this issue to some extend. The touch screen uses a line grid to sense capacitance; so if you have two fingers at the same line-pair, they will influence each others capacitance reading.
My N7 touchscreen definitely works better than my Galaxy i9000 one.
Multitouch in my 2 years old and much more used samsung galaxy s2 works much much much better than the n7. One and multi as far as the s2 can go

It is the job of the DSP to filter out noise and produce smooth data.
There is absolutely no jitter on my GS2.
Apple iPhone 5 also has no jitter.
Therefore I make the claim that the jitter is not "normal" for touchscreens in general, but for the N7 2013, many units exhibit this behavior, so it isn't worth trying to get a new one, because there are worse things than minor jitter.

So you are saying, if you take something like 'Yet Another MultiTouch Test' that displays coordinates and a cross; put one finger on the screen and then cross the displayed lines with a second finger that the first pos doesn't move at all?
As long as I don't cross those lines there is no movement/jitter for the first finger.

On 9 out of 10 Nexus 7 2013 I tried there is movement. On my GS2 there is no movement, nor was there movement on the iPhone 5.
I don't need to use YAMTT, the jitter is immediately apparent when doing rotations in Google Maps. The axis cross when rotating clockwise, counterclockwise.

You are welcome to your opinion.
It is very challenging for 9 of 10 N7 2013 I tested. I have never seen jitter in YAMTT that was not also reflected in Google Maps.
On N7 I turn on developer options show touches and show pointer location which is actually more direct than YAMTT because it is at the OS level.
I have run YAMTT on three units, but the reason I don't run YAMTT on all units is because some of the units I test do not have access to Internet to download it, while developer options and Google Maps are on every unit.
Just to satisfy you, I installed YAMTT on my GS2 and it is rock solid with
2 finger overlap, pinch-zoom
one finger static, the other sliding to overlap
two finger rotating and overlapping clockwise, counterclockwise
two finger overlap sliding down the screen
It is a shame that folks have gotten so used to buggy touchscreens that they are convincing themselves it is normal.
I know people who think jumpy Google maps is normal because they think it is downloading data. When they see maps on my phone, they are amazed how smooth it is on 2.5yr old technology.
I can just agree with sfhub, many people just agree with the problem an see it normal as some people said in this and other posts related. Your money doesn't have problems, why would you accept a faulty device? It's not just my GS2, even the touch screen of my galaxty 3 (low end from samsung) performs better than this, less points but all are still working today and that's a 4 years old 2.2 froyo (back up phonein case of xtreme necesity).

From my experience experimenting with many units, that is accurate.
If your jitter progressed to ghost taps, stuck taps, spasdic multi-touch, dead spots/bands, then I'd start to worry.
Minor jitter, don't worry about it.
There are 2 separate issues. Jitter issue, which is not OK and should not happen. However a slight shift in position when using 2 fingers, one static and the other crossing the same axis, the static finger always has a slight shift. That is normal for many touch screens.

after 4 returns of LG G Pads, all of which had screen issues (adhesive yellow lines, light bleeding, 7 light spots of doom at the bottom) I've decided to up my game and move to 10.1 as something futureproof and fun to own...
However most issues pop AFTER we get our hands on the tablet. As such, I would like to ask the owners. Hand over heart - what are the + and - and what are the most common issues (if any) reported with this tablet?
Thinking of buying it from Pcworld today.

There were some early assembly issues (S Pen loose in silo, speaker grills uneven or loose, BT connectivity issues) that seem to have abated because after the wave of early builds they haven't been mentioned lately. If you're a lag-freak the N10.1-14 does suffer from the occasional transition stutter or milliseconds of lag opening and closing apps. I'd peg it as lag free 95% of the time. We're getting Magazine UX/4.4 soon and the Tab/Pro's shown on video from their CES launch looked much smoother than the N10.1-14. Do you have better than 20/20 vision? A couple of people who do (or apparently do) have noticed some display anomalies when looking at certain content; most likely because of the N10.1-14's RGBW PenTile display. I can't replicate it but have only mere mortal vision.
The top reasons to get the N10.1-14 are:
Display. I think it's gorgeous no matter what anyone else says and I compare it against my N3 everyday.
Form factor. Amazingly light, slim, and small for a 10" tablet.
Doing stuff. S Pen, S Note, Multi View, Action Memo, Scrap Book and the like are huge productivity benefits and once you start using them they are hard to live without. I'm on my second round of "Notes" with the N3 and N10.1-14 replacing my N2 and N10.1-12.
The top reasons not to buy it:
You're a pure consumption user. All of the extra features of the N10.1-14 use a lot of resources and if you're not going to use them will just be annoying. You pay a lot of money for the N10.1-14 because of those features (and premium h/w that's needed to power them) and to not use them will leave you frustrated.
You're a lag-freak. As it stands there's some stuttering, hesitation, and lag about 5% of the time. It's most prominent when there's a bunch of background processing going on. Some of the proprietary apps can throw up a spinning wheel while they're processing. For example you can move content between two apps open in Multi View. It's not always instant. You can also use Air Command to copy full screens of content from various sources to be saved in your Scrap Book. It too isn't instant.
You have super human vision or live-and-die by a "perfect" display. Some people here (a half dozen?) are really freaking out about some anomalies they've detected in the display. Interestingly, other than a single reviewer who actually has 20/15 vision mentioning he noticed "something different" about the display no one outside XDA has mentioned what some folks here have found/described. The difference between a RGB display and the N10.1-14's PenTile display is that because of an indirect sub-pixel arrangement, in certain situations like specific saturated colors on specific backgrounds, there can be detectable imperfections on certain content. I have owned (and loved) an S4 before it got stolen and I moved to my Z1.
I never had an issue with Samsung, but I do remember the occasional lag/stutter. I think it's to be used to.
The main reasons why I opted for the 10.1 are:
- The stylus + multi window. I do a lot of reading/writing and I often carry a paperbook around when I read a book to keep notes. But I am not the most tidy of persons, and I thought that operating a 10.1 in multiwindow instead would allow me to keep notes as I kindled through content.
- The specs appear future proof and XDA appears to have a good community for customing Samsungs. With cleanroms and what not, I am hoping to be able to keep the functionality of the Stylus along with a more lag free experience.
- Yes, I enjoy my movies and online magazine content, so the screen is important to me.
I will order one and hope to see it arrive by tomorrow. I can always return it within 7 days, but I doubt I will (Light bleed or faulty screens however are an immediate no go for me ! )
AS a 10.1 owner, do you think my reasons are valid? Thanks for your feedback

I never had an issue with Samsung, but I do remember the occasional lag/stutter. I think it's to be used to.
The main reasons why I opted for the 10.1 are:
- The stylus + multi window. I do a lot of reading/writing and I often carry a paperbook around when I read a book to keep notes. But I am not the most tidy of persons, and I thought that operating a 10.1 in multiwindow instead would allow me to keep notes as I kindled through content.
- The specs appear future proof and XDA appears to have a good community for customing Samsungs. With cleanroms and what not, I am hoping to be able to keep the functionality of the Stylus along with a more lag free experience.
- Yes, I enjoy my movies and online magazine content, so the screen is important to me.
I will order one and hope to see it arrive by tomorrow. I can always return it within 7 days, but I doubt I will (Light bleed or faulty screens however are an immediate no go for me ! )
AS a 10.1 owner, do you think my reasons are valid? Thanks for your feedback

Up until a few days ago everyone here almost universally loved the display. A couple of people started ragging on it just recently. I wouldn't have even mentioned the display as anything but "outstanding" if not for those few people's recent comments. I've tried to replicate each of the scenarios they are bothered by and just can't. One of them admitted to 20/15 vision so s/he may be seeing imperfections I don't. People that have bought the N10.1-14 on my recommendation (with the display playing a large part) have been universally pleased.
As for lag and such my i7 gaming desktop with 12GB of RAM and 10K RPM drives lags occasionally. I shrug while others will blow away and rebuild Windows over it. To each their own.
Based on what you've described you'll be blown away by the N10.1-14's productivity features. But give them some time before drawing a conclusion. Being developed by Asian's for Western users the functionality isn't always intuitive or well presented. It is logical though and the more you use it the more comfortable you become with it.

Almost twice the $389 some people that are complaining about certain aspects of the N10.1-14 paid during a recent refurb promotion that ran. I'm happy but it's hard to anticipate what makes others happy. Based on your list I think you'll be happy though. And even happier when we get moved to 4.4/M-UX which is imminent because leaks have started to appear.

Just came home from pc world and saw the note...
It has yellow discoloration at the edges, and on the sides, visible on the whites..Just like the lg g pads i was forced to return...
I am terrified my unit tomorrow will suffer from the same. Can I be that unlucky?

As Barry has mentioned, there are a lot of different factors that could be an issue for some folks. If you have the brightness up, you're sitting under a bright light, you have better than average eye sight, there are many reasons you could see an anomaly or part of the device such as the PenTile grid.
Generally the picture is really crisp and clear unless I load a website that is using some low resolution images on the site. Those appear fuzzy and stand out compared to the crisp text.

No,no, I had a friend with me. We were both mocking Ipads and how they had a known yellow tint issue on left hand side.
Then I walked over to the note 10.1 2014 (mine is arriving tomorrow by delivery), and against whites there was an obvious yellow discoloration on the bottom right corner, as if from leftover adhesive or what not. I've not read ANYTHING like that for the notes, but I just finished returning the 4th lg g pad over it (if you go over to the lg g pad section of xda, under general and QA/Screen quality, you will see what I speak of..)
At this point all I can do is pray haha
Good luck with your note. I have had mine for a few months now and have yet to experience any sort of issues with the screen. Demo units at stores I think are more likely to have issues because of the amount of wear and abuse they get rom random people/kids fondling them.
So far this tablet is totally forgotten by Samsung.
I'm still at mj6 for 3 months, the tablet lags , the lock screen takes 3 secs to wake up and Samsung does not even care.
My advice stay away from note 10.1 2014.
Why care for a product that's already forgotten by the manufacturer?

I've hard of occasional lag but I doubt a 3-4 month old tab has been forgotten
Well here is my first review.
A beautiful tablet, but a bit on the heavy side. Unfortunately I am returning this one as well - severe light bleeding on the bottom and right side in landscape mode. at least 8-9 spots illuminating the screen.
I think God's telling me to drop the tablet idea altogether..
I might try once more with the note though, it really does look beautiful

This tablet is fast and smooth. I have noticed light bleed on all tablets that I have owned (nexus 7, nexus 7 2013, Asus Tranformer Ifinity TF-701, Samsung Note 10.1 2014.
I am happy with this new tablet, since some selfish bastard broke into my house and stole my TF-701. This tablet by far has the best resolution, and the best display of all I have owned. The light bleed is minimal compared to the nexus 7s.
Maybe I got a good one, or I have just gotten used to light bleed on larger formats.
I would recommend this tablet, as long as you are comfortable with Touchwiz, and Samsung's way of doing things.

It looks wonderful but mine had severe light bleeding, 6 distinct spots at left side, 4 at bottom, nothing symmetrical about them. Getting one from John lewis tomorrow hoping I will be lucky ☺

New unit light bleed as well. 5 spots at bottom (which i didn't really mind, small ones), big one at top though...
Let's see how the next one does. I'll be getting a note, for sure. But I want to get bang for my buck Thank God for John Lewis return service, so let's see...
P.S. Whomever stated that Ipad air is superior to this device is a moron like no other...
I just picked one up about 2 hours ago from Brandsmart. With the display at 100% on a black background it has 6 at the bottom. It looks like small spot lights shinning up. It's charging now but if I notice it with normal use I will return it. I also have the tab 3 10.1 I got for Xmas. It had a few bad spots so I swapped it out. Now I'm good to go. Some are just worse then others. Kind of like women

Whatever note you get you will get light bleed, but don't see the problem if it isn't noticeable in normal use, I never sit in dark room with the brightness full with a black screen, do u?

It was visible watching a movie full brightness in a lit room, and very noticeable at 40% brightness in a dark room. For 450 pounds I definitely have a problem with it especially since my travelling budget device (199 pounds) out performs with same style of panel...

Mine is fine. At 100% brightness on a black background it shows a little on some angles but watching movies or viewing pics it's not bleeding into the screen.

Here's mine at 100%
I feel like the screen from my new note makes my eyes ache and get blurry after extended use. Does anyone else have this experience? I am wondering if it is the WQXGA LCD screen that is doing it. I didn't have eye strain with my last tab, the asus tf101, which admittedly had a much lower resolution IPS screen. I also didn't notice eye strain for the short time I had the tf700, another asus with an IPS screen which I ended up returning for the note. So maybe IPS screens are better for me.
I tried reducing the brightness on the note and have it in movie mode but I still notice the pain. I am not sure if this pain will go away after time or I am imagining it.
If anyone has any experience with this I would appreciate hearing about it.

I dont have any medical problems in my eyes, I dont need glasses... I never experienced something like that (just something weird in my fingers) but actually my boyfriend does...
He feels the same as you... But in this case, his problem is different... After a long time with the same problem, he experienced random nosebleed's... Like pression. The only thing that helped him is just the use of eyeglasses. But maybe is not the same thing, so dont worry, im just saying my opinion.
What else do you feel? Surely your eyes got tired, or you just need glasses for that. Something else that you want to say? Greetings! (And sorry for my bad english.)

Your Note probably has smaller text than the other tablets. Now your eyes are straining to see the smaller text.
The cheap solution is Drugstore reading glasses, which may or may not help you.
The best solution is a visit to your optometrist. It happens to most of us. :cyclops:
Thanks for the replies. I have used other 10 inch tablets and I have not had a problem with them. Why would the text be smaller on the Note if I am looking at the same web page in Chrome, for example, at the same zoom level as another 10 inch tab like the transformer tf101 or tf700?

The higher the resolution, the smaller the "default" font.
A 10" 800 x 600 screen will use a larger font, while a 10" 1920 x 1080 can take advantage of the resolution by using a smaller font.
The normal eye can make out smaller text if it's "clear". Lower resolution screens have fuzzier text.
The Note's 1920 x 1080 screen is the "clearest" on the market, beating the Apple by a wide margin. Any other 10" tablet you look at will be less clear than the Note.
The only thing that hurts my eyes are reading all these stupid complaints about this tablet. This has got to be the most idiotic thing I have ever heard. Take vitamins, get glasses and get Laid..

No need to be rude. This guy has a legitimate question. Sorry if it's not up to your forum standards, but this is the Q&A forum and he had a Q. No need to be a douche bag about it.
I had the same problem. Two things helped
1. Got an app named Lux from Play Store. Excellent for reducing eye strain especially at night.
2. Installed a screen cover - matte anti reflective. Also has the advantage of being fingerprint resistive. Amazon has several brands.S-pen works just fine with it.
I get blurry eyes and what not like @xda-soar mensioned thanks to using the tablet in a dark environment. I didnt even know an app existed that can lower the brightness further (esp in stock Android) so Thanks for that @arbit12 the Lux app is awesome and Thanks @xda-soar for asking the "idiotic" ( )question as otherwise I'd probs had never found this app. :thumbup:

If your eyes hurt, yo u are either reading a bright screen in a dark room, or you need new glasses. The tablet isn't the culprit, eye strain is. I have no issue with the screen at all, and I use it quite a bit.

I'm not blaming the screen as such but I find it doesnt go as dim as I'd like at times when I use it in a relatively dark room. I'm used to using my laptop at a very very low brightness setting.
During the day however I never have any problems with it, so it is just a night thing for me but anyways with the Lux app now installed on the tablet all is well.

Actually any Samsung AMOLED hurts my eyes, too. I think it is not problem with most people.
I and my wife are facing the same issue of eye strain , this is not after prolonged usage , within 2 mins , eye strain starts while using regularly , there is no strain whenever j use my iPhone and my friend's ipad
Yes!! I found your question when I googled the same question. My eyes are blurry for at least 10 minutes after using my S7. My old phone’s, iPads, don’t do this.. and I’m on low brightness and night mode.. it still does it. I needed to buy glasses shortly after I got the phone. I am at the age for it, but the eye strain and pain is seriously ooonly after every use of my phone. I don’t even want to check my messages any more. Ouchies!

I have just got the new note 10 phone and experiencing the same thing.... never had problems with my eyes beforehand, since this phone!
For all those posting negative snotty comments.. get a life... why are you even here to comment if you have nothing good to say?

Old topic but:
- IPS/LCD is usually less stressful on the eye (as there is no pwm flickering on <100% brightness) compared to OLED.

I would say.. the Note 2014 is fine, but it will never be as good as an e-reader screen - in terms of like eye friendliness.
For me, I did have some eye strain with this device when I was using it for hardcore note taking. But I think it only happened because I was so focused on taking notes, and trying to make them look good and whatnot that I didn't blink often enough. My relative used this tablet for a few years - and now it's back to me. Used it like all day long and never complained about eye strain. So I am certain it was on me.
I feel strain when I look at it in the dark to unlock. Apparently due to facial recognition, the brightness goes full to emit light and brighten the face for recognition.unfortunately you need to leave eyes open for it to unlock or see what you are typing. Switching off facial recognition and turning on blue filter fixed it for me.
Anyone experiencing less than perfect touch sensitivity when trying to scroll quickly? Happens to me in Facebook, chrome, Gmail, etc. It doesn't fully register some of the swipes and makes it a short swipe/scroll motion instead of a long one. Wonder if it could be the screen protector that comes installed on the device? I have not tried taking it off.

Is it miss taps/fail to register touch or just slow swipe speed in software?
It's inconsistent speed in software. Sometimes it's a fast swipe, sometimes not. So it's hard to tell whether it's a hardware or software issue. Happens a lot for me in Facebook app.
I've noticed this a bit also when web browsing.

I was coming here to post the same thing. Sometimes I have to tap something twice so it wil register... sometimes three times. I thought it was the screen protector too but now that i see this I'm not so sure. Is it something that's fixed with a patch? It's not THAT bad but it's kinda annoying.
I agree as well. It seems that sometimes it requires an extra tap here and there. It hadn't happened to me instead little while but it definitely happened. I was thinking about opening a thread about it a couple of days ago but got lazy lol

It seems to happen more to me in apps that are loading stuff like Chrome (with a long web page) or Facebook (in the feed). In contrast, Gmail is almost always perfect.
This makes me think it's a software issue. But FWIW taking off the screen protector made the screen more responsive for in general (I guess that's not surprising).
Curious to hear what apps are most obvious/problematic for folks.

For me it's mostly on third party apps but it's VERY sporadic. It happens every 1 out of 20 touches. Still kinda annoying but not a deal breaker for me. Also, I noticed it happens mostly when tapping things on the left side corners of the screen. Like the menu button of the citi bank app for example.
I think I will go with Samsung S8+ ...
I don't think it's a hardware issue. For me it's not screen location specific, and I only notice it when trying to scroll quickly in certain apps.

Honestly it isn't a deal breaker. At first I was very annoyed by it and I still am but it doesn't happen that often. And the phone is so good that I'm willing to just wait for OnePlus to address the issue.

False. The pixel 2 XL and razor phones are butter. So is the OnePlus except for this issue which should be resolved soon hopefully.

You can check it by enabling the pointerlocation draw in dev options. And see if it it make some weird pines or only dots sometimes when you swipe. If its the case and you have no screenprotector its a hardware issue. I had the same on op3t with the preapplied screenprotector only. Now im really afraid because im going to buy op5t coming from op5
