Device Encryption - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

I've used encryption on other android devices with no problem. But I cannot seem to get encryption set up on the Note 10.1.
Details: I set up a suitably strong password. But when I go through the check boxes to encrypt the device (yes, the battery has > 80% and yes, the device is plugged in and charging), I eventually get the black screen with the geared-out Android. However, after only about 30 seconds, the device reboots. When I go back into the settings, the device is NOT encrypted.
So I tried encrypting the SD Card: no problems. Then I tried to encrypt the device again...but without success.
Has anyone else poked around with the Note's encryption?

Same here, my experience is you cannot encrypt if rooted and you cannot root if encrpyted (does not boot). I have used the cf-auto root.

I rooted and now doesn't boot....

[Q] Encrypted Phone Won't Boot

So I really need some help...I encrypted my phone a while ago....Last night well attempted to remove the encryption I killed my phone....it will no longer boot up...I can get to the recover and download mode.....Odin fails to write anything to it....And the phone cant mount /data or /emmc
So my question is...is there anyway to fix this?

have you tried charging up the phone to 100% (LEAVE IT THERE FOR 3/4 HOURS TO MAKE SURE ITS FULLY CHARGED OR UNTIL IT DISPLAYS A GREEN LED LIGHT) then then boot up, it will prompt for the password to decrypt your phone, put it then everything will be fine
after you are booted up go back to settings-security-encrypt device then follow instructions on how to decrypt your phone after you successfully follow the steps to decrypt it will shut down and bring a bar showing progress of decrypting TRUST ME DONT TOUCH IT WILL TAKE 1MIN-1HOUR
BE PATIENT
fyi this happened to me and pretty much i was feeling like i broke my phone, cried alittle but it was well worth it when i learned about that staff and fixed it later, dont worry your phone is not bricked its just encrypted (YOU CANT ACCESS THE PHONE WHEN ITS ENCRYPTED) it will boot-up after a long 100% charge but it will need you to put the password for decrption
dont panic your phone is not completely fcked

have you tried to use a USB jtag, maybe that might help or if you can get in recovery mode or safe-mode that will help you flash back to stock and fix the problem...........that does not help google is there for you, someone here in XDA will help you
if you can force the phone to download, recovery or safe-mode there is a chance the phone still has some life left in it, Plus tutorials in youtube can help with your situation......
again i got myself into the same problem and issues you currently have but i was lucky to fix it right away before i tried odin
keep trying its not bricked yet, it might work....Last resort is to take it to samsung or get a new phone or something like that will fix it

Stuck in a decrypt loop

Originally posted this issue in CyanogenMod 13.0 Nightlies for the HTC One m8, and haven't received any replies, so I am trying here...
Have been using various versions for sometime CyanogenMod without issues. S-off Super CID.
Recently updated to cm-13.0-20160511-NIGHTLYand the latest TWRP. I noticed I could no longer boot to bootloader. When I tried, the phone would shut down. This happened whether using the reboot menu or TWRP .
I couldn't get anywhere, so I wiped everything and installed Nandroid backup of a stock sense ROM through TWRP. Now the sense ROM keeps asking for my password to decrypt storage. I enter the password I used with Cyan, which doesn't work. After 50? tries, it reboots into TWRP, resets the phone, and immediately reboots to back to sense with the same result. I seem to be stuck in a loop.
Still unable to get to HTC bootloader, and I can no longer boot to TWRP either. The phone is also no longer seen by my toolkit.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You might want to try to decrypt with the password 'default_password' as this is the default password for CM encryptions. The lock screen passphrase IS NOT the disk encryption password. It's a known problem with cyanogen. (I assume) You may have assumed that the lock screen password was what it was in CM but it's not. When you get in, make sure to change the disk encryption password (with a terminal sort of program while in root) using
because cryptfs changepw password default_password <new password here>
Really hopes this helps.
It's a CM problem, so just dw and calm down xD
Let me know how this pans out :good:

I think you should wait for the phone to run out of battery or try leaving it off for a bit and try getting into bootloader again. You can try a hard reset with power+volup+voldown then keep holding the down button after you feel the buzz. I don't see any other way you can do it. If you can get there, there's a good chance you can get into recovery and wipe data. It'll wipe everything but it should work.
It should work because while I was reading up on how the encryption works for both sense and cyanogen, they both encrypt the /data so if you wipe that you should be good to go
You should be able to side load a ROM on

Still the same. I haven't been able to get it to use up the battery yet. The screen keeps turning off after a about 30 seconds, so the battery is lasting forever! Think I have myself a pretty paperweight.
I have the same problem but I fixed my phone
if your phone not charged use original charger for the phone
-first, remove any sim card or memory card
- [ hold volume down + home button (if you don't have home button skip) + power button]
- press volume down this will rester your phone
- your phone now will work fine
- now Go to settings > lock and security > disable encryption
- no turn off your phone after disabling encryption
- now insert your sim card and memory card
- turn on your phone now everything is fine ..
Good Luck

(FIXED) Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 will not fully boot up.

I've had my Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 (SM-T705Y) for just over two years now and it has worked brilliantly beside the odd issue here and there, including the device freezing from time-to-time. Each time that particular freezing issue has happened, I've used the 'Power and Volume Down buttons' technique and it has successfully fixed the issue.
Now, a few days ago, I was using my tablet for normal morning things; music app playing in the background, YouTube opened on the side, using the preinstalled Browser and Google Chrome apps, etc. I am not sure if it was updating any Google or Samsung apps at the time. The screen froze up so I left it for a few minutes, seeing if it would unfreeze. When it didn't, I used the same Power and Volume Down technique, which successfully forced-restarted the tablet. There was a small mistake I made doing this; I was holding down both the Power button and Volume Up button. It took me around thirty seconds to realise why the screen wasn't turning off and switched to the Volume Down button. At the time, both my earphones and the charging cord were connected.
However, upon the loading screen, I noticed that it did not pass the Samsung logo screen with the little explosion of blue circles and just kept replaying the same animation repeatedly. The Application History and Back buttons did not light up and the device did not vibrate as it normally does when it boots up. I repeated the Power-Volume Down technique to see if that would fix the issue. Once again, the tablet rebooted normally but was stuck at the logo screen playing the animation. I tried this same force-restart again, this time without the charger plugged in. No change.
So, I left it running through the animation while doing Google searches through forums and getting into contact with Samsung as to what the issue could be. I'll list down below what my tablet can and can't do at the moment and hopefully someone will have a clue as to what is going on and how to fix it. I will point out now that it was not going through a firmware update at the time, the device is not rooted and nor do I plan on taking that path with it, and I have not made any changes to it that can void the warranty.
It can:
- Recharge (The battery icon will show up if it is force-restarted and the charger is plugged in at the time.)
- Reboot (It's not exactly stuck in a bootloop, more of just the 'explosion' animation replaying over-and-over.)
- Enter Recovery Mode
It cannot:
- Enter Safe Mode
- Be Shut Down without the charger attached (As stated above, the device will only turn off with the Power-Volume Down buttons held for about 30 seconds and that causes the device to restart, not turn off. The only way for it to completely shut down is to have the charger connected and then unplug it after the battery icon appears.)
I have tried removing the SD card and placing it back in, power-cycling it, letting it run on the animation until the battery runs out and then letting it recharge to 100% before turning it on again, connecting it to Samsung Smart Switch (which recognises that there is a Samsung device connected, but not being able to register the device itself), and wiping the Partition Cache (Also note; the Recovery Mode has the 'No Command' sign with the android laying down and the red triangle with the exclamation point above it. Clearing the Partition Cache seemed to go smoothly, however when I chose the 'reboot device now' option, the 'No Command' sign changed to 'Error!' and rebooted the device anyway.) I am now currently trying another technique written on a different website (though since I am a new user, I cannot post up URLs at the moment). So far, plugging in the earphones alone hasn't worked and the device is currently connected to my laptop - which is shut off - and still has the earphones connected, but the animation is the only thing the screen is still showing.
I have important files saved in the internal storage of my Tab S and I do not have them backed up, which is the only issue that's stopping me from just going ahead and doing a Factory Reset as I cannot lose these files.
I am unsure if my Tab S is soft-bricked or if this is another issue entirely and I just missed something that could have already fixed it.
Yes, this is a long and detailed post, but hopefully with these details, someone will be able to help with this issue. If I can restore my Tab S to its condition before the freeze, that would be amazing, but I can definitely settle with only being able to salvage my files from the internal storage and then performing a Factory Reset on it.
Thank you in advance~
It might be a corrupt partition. The way i know involve rooting or the other one might format your device to factory setting.

Really? I might look into that a bit more, thanks! With the second method you mentioned, how likely are the chances of it formatting the device to the factory settings?

download the official firmware and flash it via odin. it usually fix this type of problem. but usually the files on the internal storage/sdcard will be intact. only the data apps will be gone. this will not break your warranty (its already 2 yo device... no more warranty anyway ^_^)

Note 4 - Can't bypass lock screen after replacing broken screen

Hello,
Can anyone advise me in this issue please? I already did lots of refresher but no lock. please help me?
I have A Verizon Samsung Note 4 (SM-N910V) that is protected by a lock screen (PIN code). the LCD screen broke/shattered on it. I replaced the screen. Now the passcode is not working and I'm not able to access the phone anymore.
The method I used to replace the screen was not by replacing the LCD screen/digitizer. I simply bought a different Verizon Samsung Note 4 that is in excellent condition. then I replaced the motherboard. (Meaning, I took the motherboard from the old phone and put it in the new phone I bought) so the home button, speakers, mic, volume buttons, power button, menu button, back buttons, case, everything else, etc is all from the new phone. Everything is connected correctly. the touch screen and all the other buttons work perfectly.
Does anyone know if replacing the screen in this method I used would have caused my passcode or PIN number not to work anymore?
is there anyway to bypass the passcode password screen WITHOUT losing any data?? please help me!
-Android Version: 6.0.1
-Build: N910VVRS2CQA1
-***NOT Rooted***
-Stock recovery
-USB debugging is NOT turned on.
-Phone is NOT linked to a Samsung account.
-Phone is linked to a Google account. but Android device manager does not offer locking/unlocking feature since the phone is already screen locked.
-Can't overwrite custom recovery with Odin because of the security lock.
-Can't factory reset because I don't want to lose data. so no wipe.
-Can't root because I don't want to lose data.
-Bought and tried Dr.fone software for android to bypass lock screen but it did NOT work.
When I try to flash the phone (with Odin) Odin Fails. and I get this error on the phone:
Secure Check Fail : Recovery
Custom Binary(recovery) Blocked by R/L
any help please would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Can you access/see your file system via Windows in either download or recovery mode? Or even with a OTG cable and thumb drive? If so, back your stuff up and do a full wipe.
Hi DelphinusMinor
thanks for replying . No my file system is not accessible.

You should be able to bypass the lockscreen (with some time and patience), by expoliting some security holes in older firmwares. It worked for me but I had to find some old and exploitable firmware. The older the better I would say. Search rootjunky Frp bypass videos on youtube.

Galaxy A50 bootlooping

my phone was working normally and all of a sudden I came back to my room and it only displayed the galaxy a50 starting screen (the one before there is just "samsung" written).
Restarting it didn't help and it always gets stuck at the same display or restarts endlessly. Sometimes it makes it until the "samsung" display.
Firstly, I don't really know why it rebooted anyway and the problem started. There is a software update I should have been doing for quite some time, so maybe that got executed automatically (is that even possible?) and failed?
What I already tried:
Charging (100% charged)
Went into recovery mode and:
repaired apps (didn't help)
powered off and restarted after 20 minutes of being turned off (didn't help)
Run graphics/ locale test (didn't help, the graphics test said something about deleting so I got afraid and restarted it. Could I have lost some data because of that?)
click on mount/system (as far as I can tell nothing happened)
wiped cache partition (didn't help)
clicked reboot to bootloader (what does that do? There was written downloading but then I got scared and restarted the phone, could that have done some damage?)
Rebooted (nothing happened)
downloaded drphone, phone does not get recognized
As you might see, I'm a bit desperate and although being quite tech savvy I don't know that much about android.
What is most important to me is recovering/ not deleting the data on my phone (last backup is about one month old so not too bad but still very bad for me) so please suggest safe options first in that regard (if there are any).
Can I maybe just update the software via ADB without damaging my data?
Or use ODIN for that? Also heard something about TWRP. Don't really know how any of these three work exactly (but totally willing to learn how!)
Your help would mean the world to me
the deleting part in the graphics test is just texts it does nothing. i dunno if the usb debugging is enabled, but if it is get alternative boot partition (saved my pixel 4 like that). i used linageOS 20 recovery mode that got me to os i backed up my files and then reflashed.

Thanks very much for your reply! I found out quite a bit by now and it seems to me after intensely studying this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ce-is-stuck-on-boot-loop.4536965/page-2#posts only reinstalling the software (most likely with ODIN) is the way to get back to the phone working properly. You don't know anything about that, maybe? I'm very afraid to do it wrong and wipe my data.
Can I just reinstall the already installed software version? Or should I go higher?
I restarted it once though and even put in my PIN but after the home screen appeared it fell back into the bootloop again.
I have no experiance with samsung odin. But what i say is you bring it to someone who does to back ya fils up. Then go play with flashing. Odin is far from the only way. Unfortunately i can not assist you on it because i never used it. Good luck!
