Flash the STOCK ROOTED ROM using my (steps below)
1. Download Odin - Odin 3.07 --- Not a must for rooting but great tool to have!
2. Download CWM6 - There are newer versions but I know this works! - Thanks AndyYan - CWM6.0.1.2
Original thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34479219
3. Downloaded - Stock Rooted UCLJ3 ROM - STOCK ROOTED UCLJ3 ROM - Android 4.0.4
4. Place the zipped STOCK ROOTED folder on your External SD Card --- In the root of the sdcard --- what that means is don't put it in a folder! - You can do this by putting your card in your computer or laptop, if you have a media reader or usb adapter Buy One Here - once its on the external sd card place it back in the phone
5. Boot into CWM6 -
5a - Power off phone
5b - Power up phone while holding the down volume key - This boots you into CWM6
6. Once in CWM6 you can update to the ROOTED STOCK ROM
7. Select - Install zip from sdcard
8. Select - choose zip from external sdcard
9. Select - UCALJ3 - Stock.zip
From there just follow the prompts if any!
Once the update is done all should be well!
If I failed to credit anyone or their forum post please let me know!

Just an addition: if you're already on a stock ROM (without ROOT) and want to root without changing the ROM you're now using, just not flash the Stock UCLJ3 zip and instead flash the latest SuperUser or SuperSU zip found floating around the Internet.

Yep hense the very first link in the post! That forum explains how to do that exact process.

Hi friend "AndyYan" then if I have a stock ROM installed as non-root in my case is that ICS 4.0.4 update through Kies, I can then just install direct CWM6 SD-card or necessarily need to use Odin.
Since I am not very clear because download Odin? supposedly the stock ROM if I will install directly to SD-card and run with CWM6 there?
Excuse my ignorance, but I'm too new, and I'm afraid to leave my phone useless?
Thanks

Very very much for this excellent guide, and I've searched and searched and finally found this, because I wanted to try taking root, as many other stir all as assuming one knows.
Thanks friend "ll81702". :good::good:

Updated via KIES, right? Then you need Odin to flash CWM. You can't get CWM directly from SD.
Sent from Google Nexus 4 @ Android 4.4 KRT16M

Thanks, but what if I do the steps indicated by the friend "ll81702", because as I said I have already ICS 4.0.4, cause some conflict if I restart the UCLJ3 ROOTED STOCK ROM - Android 4.0.4 indicating the guide or only one set you need superuser or SuperSU and of course install with Odin the CWM6.0.1.2, which option would you recommend
Thanks...

I am not sure I understand your question. Can you rephrase?
Sent from my SGH-I927 using xda app-developers app

I think skynet is trying to say that because he already has the stock firmware, would the rooted one conflict with his current one, and he would like your input on whether to install the superuser.zip or the cwm via Odin.
Sent from my SGHI927 using Tapatalk

If you just want to root your phone you just need to load cwm6 using Odin then place the superuser zip on your sdcard. Boot into cwm6 and load the zip.
Sent from my SGH-I927 using xda app-developers app

Exactly as it says the friend "LaizureBoy", but what would happen if I use the method of the guide, I could return it to its normal state (without root), because as I see the method of Friend "ll81702" the UCALJ3-Stock.zip this is STOCK ROOTED, for as I understand this would only be root, then you can not remove the root
Thank you for your comments and support. :good:
PD: Excuse my English because I do not understand very well and use a translator ...

 Hi again because in this other guide need a "CarrierIQ FREE kernel (zip file) or the overclocked version of it" and are not using the CWM or is that CarrierIQ is the same

If you root your stock ROM it can be returned to unrooted at any time.

Thank you II81702 and AndyYan. I have the SGH-I927... I originally used ODIN to flash the carrrier free kernal... but I noticed something strange- upon reboot, it just came up with the Samsung logo and stopped there.
I was then able go into download mode again and flashed the at&t rooted ROM from the OP on 12-6-11. When it rebooted, it got hung on the samsung logo as well.
I then flashed the CWM6 and then booted up in recovery mode.
I installed the Stock Rooted UCLJ3 ROM from the external sd card and then rebooted.
now when it first reboots, it starts out with the samsung logo then 10 sec later, it get brings up the word ANDROID and gets hung there...
So am back to square one. : crying:

You are not stuck it can take 15 mins or more to get past the android screen.
If you did not do a clean wipe of your phone it will take a very long time to load.

Thanks!! I re-wiped, re-flashed the ROM and it booted up in 5 min.
Now when I turn on the phone it has the Samsung symbol and the yellow turned to blue exclamation point and then the usual boot up after that..
seems to be fine besides that. Many thanks for your posts! :good:

Very normal!
The kernel you're using is an overclock kernel, its the same one i use!

Hi sorry for asking this, have heard of software called "UnlockRoot Pro" according to this by simply connecting the device to the software that makes root or unroot the device is a paid software, but actually works on a SGH-i927 (Captivate Glide) .
Thanks...

Why pay for something you can get for free?

It ended up working fine. It just took about 8 minutes for the phone to locate the gps... then it was ok after that.... did some research and I will try do some mods to the gps/sysconf files and see if it helps it find the gps faster.
Thanks again for all your work

[Q] I can't use costum rom

Hello Everyone!
Two days before, I tried to install some costume ROM into my Galaxy W, but i wasn't successful. I had to flash with Odin.
In today, i decided to install a costume ROM all means. I have a stock rom 2.3.6. I do the rooting, after with odin i flashed the CWM. I put the selected rom into my sdcard, and with the CWM i started the install. The phone wrote, the install was succesfull, so i was very happy.
I did a reboot, and wait for the magic... but nothing. It wrote the samsung logo, after wrote the galaxy W logo, and freeze. I thougt it just installing itself, so i left back. Half hour after nothing, so i must used odin again, and install the stock rom. What do you change that, that I could install costum ROM? What problems am I doing?
To make things simpler flash stock ROM 2.3.5 as .6 can no longet be rooted.
Once ur have restored to .5 root it n flash CWM n flash ur desired ROM....

OH you used OC ROM........
you check this in post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441662
*Disclaimer*: OC may break your phone!
Recommend to use SetCPU set your default speed to 1.4Ghz. Adjust to 1.8Ghz only when necessary. Also it is recommended to set a Profile that will lower the speed in temp > 50C, you know, just in case.
OC is very hardware dependant. If you cannot boot or experience crash too often, this is not for you. Get this non-OC ROM instead.
Faster = use more power = more heat = less battery! Let me know how's the battery is like.
OC code was modified and compiled by a friend...

Hey,
You are doing all the required steps but i think you didn't read the ROM's posts.
I think whenever anybody uses a custom ROM he should read the relevent Rom's post.
Your problem is already there and here is the solution :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22087263&postcount=291
And, can I just add......if you use:
Code:
adb shell
su
dd if=/sdcard/download/boot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p8
to flash boot.img........
Be careful, Please, Please....with dd command.....it is not called Data Destroyer for nothing
see here, already 1 Brick:

You are right @irishpancake, he need to take special care if this is the only way to flash kernel.
i think there should be a safest method for this. I used to use fastboot for this, or there used to be a Android Flasher for this purpose and the chances to brick the device was near to 1%.
i used to do like that : fastboot flash boot boot.img
Cann't Odin do that ?, keep in mind i am new to Samsung

Check under "Settings" > "Wi-fi and network" > "Mobile networks". If "Use packet data" is unchecked, then that's your problem and unchecking it should solve it. If it is already checked or if you checked it and 3g still doesn't work, you should contact the dev.

[Q] CWM not replacing Android Recovery after newest OTA update / Lost Root

I recently purchased this SGS3, installed CWM and rooted it. Everything was going great - but then i was offered the most recent OTA update, so i reflashed the stock recovery via Odin, did the update which is:
4.0.4
T999EVLH2
same kernel
bld #: IMM76D.T999EVALH2
now, its saying the phone is no longer rooted (yet superSU is still there) but checkroot is saying that it isnt rooted, and no matter what i do, flashing CWM via Odin passes, but will not stick (as in, i boot into recovery mode and that damned stock recovery is STILL THERE, wtf?)
can anyone offer any assistance or insight into my issue.
Thanks
~Wikkid
Flash CWM v6. If that alone doesn't fix it, disable auto reboot in Odin, after flash, reboot phone manually into recovery mode.

as have i, for myself and for others - this is the first time an Odin flash says pass but simply wont take.
Like i said, i flashed stock recovery onto phone using Odin3 1.78 while in download mode
rebooted and took OTA update a few days ago
now i tried to flash multiple versions of CWM v6, touch and regular using Odin and everything looks good, it says pass and everything.
when i reboot into recovery mode by holding powerup, home, and power - it takes me into stock recovery still.
its as if the recovery is either not being written to the right place or it is loading from another location on the device. i dont know how to make this issue happen on a phone, ive never seen it happen before myself. which is why i come to the pros seeking help - im no n00b myself, but i certainly am no developer.

found what was probably causing the issue too - as you first suspected, but in greater detail on how to avoid this in the future:
"Apparently for those who have ran the official update by samsung are having this issue where the stock recovery is overwriting CWM recovery after reboot. Here is how to fix the issue. Credit to Max from Galaxys3root
You will need to rename or delete these two files.
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
I just renamed them. I'm thinking once there is a offical update such as jelly bean that I want to update too ill just rename them back so the stock recovery will reload and allow the update."

Thanks a bunch for that information, I've been trying to get the CWM to stick and was getting extremely frustrated with it reverting after every boot. Deleting these files fixed it and I now have CWM v5.5.0.4 installed and surviving a couple boots. It took a few tries to delete the files, though, finally used ES file explorer and went in to settings to allow root acess.
You wouldn't have had any issues at all if you were using a version of CWM even somewhat recent. Because it prompts you to remove those files.

I'm stuck. I can't get root back after update to 4.3 - Tried everything

Right guys, usually I'm quite good a figuring these things out myself but this one has me stuck. I've tried loads of suggestions and I'm sure I'm doing something wrong somewhere.
Basically I've just flashed SlimBean, the Android 4.3 version. When I opened SU it says that there is no SU binary installed and that it can't install them. I researched that error message and I have tried the following.
Re-Root using Odin and CF Autroot. The process worked but I still don't have root access. (I checked that I have root enabled in the developer options)
I read that I need to flash SU v1.51 but I now don't have a custom recovery so can't flash the ZIP. I tried using ROM manager which won't work because I don't have Root access.
I decided that I need to flash a custom recovery so I downloaded one from TeamWin (the TAR/MD5 version for Odin) and tried to flash it with Odin. Unfortunately Odin detects my phone, starts file analysis, then crashes. I decided to try flashing it using Goo Manager. This said that it had worked but when I rebooted I still get the stock Android recovery
I tried to flash a CWM recovery using Odin but again it crashes. I was using Odin v3.07 but I downloaded v3.09 and it still doesn't work.
So I HAVE done some searching and tried to resolve myself but I'm stuck now. I could be missing something simple. Any ideas people?
Settings > Developer Options > Root Access then select Apps and ADB. If you can't see developer options go to about phone and tap 6x version number.

Yes mate. That's what I meant in my original post when I said that I'd enabled root.
Thanks for trying to help though, I appreciate it.

Have you tried framaroot? Not sure if it supports Note 2 but it doesn't require custom recovery afaik

Never heard of that to be honest. I'll have a bit of a search and see if it will work for the Note 2.
Thanks.

Problem solved. I didn't directly use Framaroot but when searching for it I stumbled across Philz Touch Recovery which actually did flash with Odin (strange why CWM or TWRP wouldn't work with Odin) so you did help indirectly
From there I flashed DrKetan_MultiTool-AromaVxx.zip and got my Root back.
Thanks

I use Philz too but didn't tell you as I though there was a whole problem with custom recoveries in general :$
Glad you sorted it out though

Can you tell me how you did it? I'm fairly new and don't want to brick my phone....again.
I keep having the same trouble with root access as you described and want to give Philz a try.
Thank you bunches!
Irene
One thing I have noticed myself, that unless you are Running Probam which has Super SU as it's native Root, then you will encounter this problem. Installing SuperSu on many 4.3 Roms will break root, from what I have read and tested. Use the built in superuser instead. But it is good to know that Philz works.
So until SuperSu is updated, don't use it.

Download Philz touch Recovery and the SuperSu and Busybox flash file. Place the SuperSu/Busybox flash file onto your phone internal or external memory card. Then open up Odin and select Philz file in the PDA section. Put your phone into download mode by holding Power, Volume Down, Home, you will see the menu asking you to go into download mode. Choose yes. Connect your phone and a yellow or blue box will show up in Odin to let you know it's connected.
Leave the boxes with tickmarks and what not. Then click Start and it will flash. It should reboot your phone.
When rebooted turn off phone. Then Hold Power, Volume up and Home button to boot into Philz recovery choose install zip file and navigate to the SuperSu/Busybox file and choose it to flash. Flash file. Optional but always a good idea, wipe cache/dalvik cache after then reboot phone.

[Q] [HELP] Trying to flash TWRP on V50020b

Im trying to flash TWRP on my v50020b but cannot seem to do it. Its currently on the stock 4.4.2 GB rom. Please can someone advise me how to do this.
Thank You.
You can use dd to write the aboot.img of 4.2.2 back. This will allow the old Loki flash method.

I had the same problem until I ran across this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2698267 {Acually the same you quoted}
If you'll go down to the download Step #3 and copy that zip file to your computer and unzip it and run the bat file it will install TWRP v2.7. Of course you'll have to install the LG USB drivers and install from your computer. (Won't work otherwise) Also be sure and use the second down connection for USB on your tablet - M-something, but not the charging one.
Also - get a good reboot app so you won't have to hold the buttons.

You're quoting an old post (way back in April 2014).
1st - Do you have a recovery installed?
2nd - If so, you should update to at least TWRP 2.800
I may be confused about exactly what you are doing...now if you're only booting with the buttons (power-sound down, sound up) that is the message you get and you have to push 'power' 2 times to enter recovery. Are you doing that when you see the display of android recovery after using the cold boot, then the volume and power buttons?? And you are expecting to see TWRP opening, but instead of going straight to TWRP recovery - you're getting what you say 'Android Recovery', or Factory Reset?
Post back so we will understand please. Hope I'm not being confusing in my answers...

I know that is an old post. I was trying to flash the TWRP recovery without any downgrade of the software, since this method was suposed to work with the software version V50020b.
I simply want to flash TWRP recovery, the tablet is all stock with root (TowelRoot), but I just realised that I have to downgrade the software (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58198471&postcount=44), and wanted to avoid this! I already softbricked the tablet with only 3h of usage, and now I'm a little afraid! lol
Do you now any method that works without the downgrade trick?
Thanks.
Flash TWRP with flashify (root) - (from Play Store).
This *should* work & if not I think no harm will come ... Flashify.app just won't 'work' if things are not correct.
Good luck!

I would shut the tablet completely down.
You should be able to use the 'buttons' to get to 'Factory Reset'. Do what you know: Power/+down then all 3. If you can't get to TWRP, it must not be installed.
Check with a command window. Be sure & use 'su'. Ask a guru 'how'...I may not be 'expert' enough!

Hi, i had the same problem as yours with v50020d 4.4.2
first i rooted with ioroot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2776198
second install step 3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2698267
you have to run "runme.bat" from the zip. If did not install here is a post that helped me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54027265&postcount=9
then flash witch recovery you want with flashify or twrp app
if you have any questions message me.
good luck

Screwed up trying to root, stuck in bootloop

So, I've got a 64gb black sprint Galaxy S6, non-edge. This morning, it had stock 5.11 on it, but I decided I wanted to root it, and ... I screwed up. I got Odin 3.10.6 and installed CF-Auto-Root-zerofltespr-zerofltespr-smg920p.tar.md5 which I now know does not work with 5.11. Since then, bootloop. Reboots every minute or so. I've tried everything I can find, wiping everything, flashing what purport to be stock ROMs, putting TWRP on there, and still within a minute of booting it reboots. I tried installing Smart Switch, but it can't get a connection because the phone just won't stay booted.
Rooting would be nice, but I just want my phone to work again. What can I do here? I don't have insurance and KNOX is flipped.
if you're sure you are on 5.1.1, flash any kernel (unikernel v8, etc.) that would fix your issue.
I should mention this is a SM-G920P, if that's significant.
I flashed the stock package through Odin, then TWRP, then installed Hacker Kernel through that. It's still rebooting repeatedly while i try to go through the initial setup process, and dumping me at the language select each time.
I tried unikernel too, didn't work either.
Okay, here's my current process, which is not working.
Boot to ODIN/Download mode, by holding power+volume down+home.
Open Odin 3.10.6, as administrator. Auto-Reboot is unchecked.
Flash what's supposed to be the latest stock rom, obtained here.
Wait until it says PASS, then reboot into ODIN mode again.
Flash the TWRP 2.8.7.0 tar, obtained here.
Wait until it says PASS, then reboot into recovery, by holding power+volume down+home until it reboots and then power+volume up+home to enter recovery.
Wipe Data/Cache/Darvik.
Transfer Hacker Kernel and SuperSU .zips, obtained here, to storage on phone.
Use TWRP to install Hacker Kernel, as instructed on that page.
Reboot into recovery.
Use TWRP to install Super SU. Note: In the section of the log reading Boot Image Patcher, I get Extracting ramdisk, Decompressing ramdisk, Failure, aborting. Important?
Reboot.
Now it's sitting on the Samsung Galaxy S6 screen, and not going any farther than that.
I tried flashing nothing but the stock 5.1.1 package, but that's not working either. It still keeps rebooting, and it won't ever get past the screen that says "Preparing your device for first-time use... This may take 3 or 4 minutes." Is there anything I can do? I can't afford to not have a phone and I can't afford to replace this one. Please, help me.
I've redownloaded everything, checking md5 sums, and those are all correct. Flashing the BOL1 stock gets me rebooting, flashing it and then Unikernel v8 gets me rebooting, flashing it and then Unikernel v9 gets me rebooting, flashing it and then Unikernel v9 and then TWRP has me rebooting.
It boots up and stays up for a minute or two, enough to get a little ways into the setup. The first boot, it stays on the Sprint screen for a while, then reboots after about a second on the language select screen. When it gets back there, I can select language, connect to wifi, accept the EULA, and then wait on the "Preparing your device for first-time use" screen for a little while before it reboots. Sometimes it'll get as far as asking me if I want to let Google collect diagnostic data.
Hardware issue...i had the same issue with similar process. I had to get a replacement phone
Is it possible that trying to install the Chainfire root package on a 5.11 phone just broke something permanently? Could it be something partition-related, maybe? I'm at a total loss here.
This should help

I had the same issue also with the SM-G920P.
Problems:
*unikernal > v6 (v7 and above == bootloop)
*hackerkernal on non-teamsprint rom == bootloop
*cf auto root was not required for root
What fixed it for me:
1. Odin back to stock 5.1.1
2. Flash TWRP
3. Boot into recovery
4. Reboot (it should tell you that root is not installed or something like that, so if it asks to install root let it)
5. Once booted into os SuperSU will tell you to update the su binary, update then reboot
6. Congratulations you have root.

Did 1, did 2, did 3, did 4 but it didn't give any message like that, and now it's just repeating the "Samsung Galaxy S6 Powered By Android" screen over and over.
Unless when you say "Odin back to stock 5.1.1" you mean flashing 5.1.1 and then going through the setup to a functioning OS, because I have never been able to do that since I started.

To Odin back to stock 5.1.1 properly follow the steps on this page exactly with the files it tells you to use http://www.androidrootz.com/2015/05/how-to-unroot-galaxy-s6-and-s6-edge.html
Then you'll need a ROM, i recommend this http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...ment/ram9200-ofe-rom-thread-v3-5-1-1-t3173417
Once in recovery flash it (skip to step 7 in the link) then boot up, if that doesn't work I don't know what will.
Tried that, now it boots as far as the Sprint screen but hangs there and then reboots.

Hardware issue
Any advice on getting a replacement? I still have about $500 left on the monthly installments for this phone, and I don't have insurance. The Sprint stores I went to said to go to Samsung for a replacement for a malfunctioning phone, since I've had it for less than a year, since KNOX is flipped I'm guessing Samsung won't give me a thing.
I uploaded a file to Mediafire called 2016-03-20--04-15-35_G920P_Renegade_OJ7_v1.zip
This is a TWRP backup of my phone's system/radio/boot/efs, it should replace anything that doesn't work. I don't know if it'll work but it's worth a try.
Copy the zipped folder to TWRP/BACKUPS and restore your phone
Okay. Can you link to the mediafire page to download it?

If ever the EFS is cleared, deleted whatever. It re-builds from block 12, so there's no need to worry too much.

Should I do re-partition then nand erase all and then flash rom or should I do them altogether?
