Nova Launcher - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Anyone with Nova Launcher installed notice that sometimes when backing out of apps, it returns to the Touch wiz home screen instead of Nova Launcher? By pressing the home button, it does navigate to the Nova Launcher home screen, but it gets annoying after awhile. I did choose the option to make Nova Launcher my default, so not sure if there is another option I need to change.

I think it has nothing to do with Nova launcher, as I have seen it happen in Apex too. I remember reading some Samsung (?) apps on the Note do that in Android 4.3.

I had this problem with Kaiten Mail. I know the effect from Kaiten which on the last back returns to the first app and not to the last app. This was already the case on my Note 10.1
Setting Nova as default launcher and rebooting stop at least calling the system launcher, as Nova is then the first app started.

Thanks. A reboot seems to have done the trick. It's funny since I've had this tablet for almost a week and never had to reboot it like my old Xoom which I had to do every couple of days to clear up slowdowns .

Once I install Nova Launcher, I actually freeze TouchWiz Home with Titanium Backup (along with a bunch of other Sammy/TW apps I don't use). That way it never bothers me again.

Is there already a launcher 5x6 and more?
With SGS3 5x6 was perfect, so no doubts we need something like that here also!
Anyone seen something like that?
You try the Nova launcher. It's not TouchWiz, so you will miss out on the buddy pages for extract pen, insert headphone, etc, but you'll have a lot more additional functionality to play with. I bought Nova launcher and love my 5x7 grid, 7 icons in the dock, resizeable widgets, etc. It's just that little bit extra..

Also on Nova! Fast, small & reliable. Nearly all functions available in free version too.

I`m using Nova with my grid set at 10x8. You need to press volume down while in Nova settings to enable the Lab settings and tick the Big Grid Size Options.
You can take a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1960039
Keep in mind that Nova has wallpaper cropping issue.

Go Launcher Ex allows this and other enhancements. It seems fast and light on resources, and works with S-Pen functionality like the pop-up Notepad when the S-Pen is taken out of its dock.

That's actually a Note2 function. Works with any good launcher, so Nova too...
There's also a function to be bound to the "insert headphone" act; the only thing missing are the additional buddy pages for these actions, but speaking for myself, that's hardly a miss... YMMV

[Q] Easy access to notifications?

Hi,
Sometimes opening the notifications result in sliding to next screen or simply missing pulling down the notifications area.
Does anybody know of an app or mod to open notifications via button (e..g long press on home button) or shortcut?
Regards, Jens
Running ARHD 18.0
Try apex launcher, it let's you assign taps or swipes to different actions. I've got double tap to bring down my notifications

[Q] Stock launcher Vs Nova Launcher

Greetings,
I have both, but I want to know which launcher gives the best battery life for the device? Anyone knows about it?
Thanks.
Good Q, I like to know that too and how to stop Stock.

After the H update i switched backt to stock. But when i used it for a few days i missed nova launcher. It feels more smooth. I don't notice any difference in battery life.

Does switching to nova launcher still makes me have that part of the steps and smart tips of the stock launcher?
Stock = always best battery but the difference is very minimal so I would go with nova any day
Sent from my Xperia Z2
Unless someone has a concrete objective assessment of the difference my subjective experience in terms of battery consumption is that both launchers, stock and Nova, are pretty similar with frankly no noticeable difference (for my usage)
Personally been using Nova prime for the past 2 weeks and don't think I'll leave it any time soon. Advantages; more functional than stock, most important for me is flexibility of grid size in both home and app drawer in addition to ability to resize icons. More fluid as well

If stock lock screen is maintained yes it works, however tap to lock does work only when tapping on status bar in Nova home, not any where else on screen though!

Yes it does, you can use knock code or double tap to wake with Nova, but you can only lock it with double tap on the status bar.

Yes you are right, double tap on any empty part of the screen. You can also set the home button to lock if on the home screen.
If you buy the prime version, download some screen off APP and you can set a double-tap gesture to load that APP and lock tour device.

Warning about Nova:
I used it on my previous GS3 and I installed it on my LG G3. But I saw that there is a delay before I see a call (= ringing + screen on).
I made a test with a friends and sometimes it rings 3-4 times for the caller before my G3 "wake up".
I came back to the stock launcher and saw that the problem came from Nova.
So now I switched to Apex who is for me nearly the same than Nova.
Maybe It is only me who has this kind of problem, but it worth a test...
So I know this isn't the place to ask but since everyone here is using either stock or Nova. What's the difference between Apex and Nova? I use Apex :/

Apex is sweet too. Not much difference. I own both.

You can make a shortcut to LG Health by going to Shortcuts - activities - LG Health
Hi!
For me, stock launcher is very smooth and battery friendly. At the moment I don't plan to switch to another launcher. Also, in my opinion, the best custom launcher is KK Launcher.
Regards.

Themer, Nova Launcher etc

OK, I have had a lot of problems getting widgets to stick to my homescreen after adding them. the defaults stay just fine and there are several that work as well from the play store, but beautiful widgets and hd widgets and widgetsoid, none of them work at all in the note 4 touchwiz homescreens.
I figured I would add a launcher to my phone so i could get my widgets back. The very first launcher I added was themer, and just as an fyi, they do not support the note 4 yet and it is not compatible. They did say on their support page however that there is support coming soon. there is no release date as to when they are expecting it to work.
The next launcher I tried was Nova and it worked flawlessly. So did APEX and Go Launcher. I have not tried some of the others yet such as NEXT launcher an TSF shell. I'll report back if and when I get time to try them out and see what happens.
I figured I would start this thread so that if anyone else is having issues with trying to add widgets on their stock homescreen and it doesnt work, then they could find a quick alternative here until the issues get resolved.
I was able to get next launcher to work as well but im not paying 12 bucks just to see if tsf works. gonna need someone else to try that one.
Another launcher
ADW Launcher also works flawlessly on my note 4.

Thank you! I don't know why i forgot about them lol
I'm actually enjoying the stock launcher on my phone. Reason being, is it seem to do notifications very well by putting the number next to each app. On my old phone, I use to use Next and loved it. I wouldn't mind putting it on my Note just to see how much better it'd perform, but again, I'd probably miss the whole notifications experience. Can someone comment on NEXT on the Note 4 vs stock launcher?
Try Blur Launcher, it's based on GNL and has some nice customizable options for non-root

As far as I know, no third party launcher allows tw widgets... too bad, sometimes I like changing launchers and I really like the tw calendar widget...
Main reason I use stock launchers is because of the widgets. Would be nice to get the best of both.
I kinda figured it wouldn't allow tw widgets as I too especially like the calendar widget. It's all good though as for whatever reason I was suddenly able to add widgets to my tw launcher.

Nova works perfectly.
I used touchwiz for about two hours and got way to annoyed. Now I am on Nova and I have no issues at all.

I use digical for my calendar widget. If you want to have a full month you have to buy it but the free themes are really nice.

Exactly what TW widgets will Nova not allow. I've been running Nova on four different phones and now on the Note 4 without any issues what so ever.
One of the very first things I do is load up a launcher. I've used TSF, Nova, Go EX, and Next Launcher so far with this phone. My favorite for speed is Nova, for eye candy are the two Go based launchers (Go Ex and Next), and the most customizable is TSF Shell.
The reason I use launchers is to get more squeezed onto the screen at once, and then to dress things up a bit, especially on a phone that does not (yet) have root.
To the OP, so far, no widget issues at all with any of the above launchers.
using nova prime, im able to use some touchwiz widgets like weather

I'm not sure. I like the TW calendar widget and it isn't available on third party launchers. Some are available like weather, flashlight and S Note widgets

As an update, I somehow got massive scratches UNDER my screen protector on my phone. I don't have a clue how in the world something like that can even happen! However, I went back to my vzw store and did the 14 day exchange for another brand new note 4. Brought it home and instantly was able to add widgets etc to my home screen. I'm not sure why my first one gave me issues for about 3-4 days. Has anyone else at all had the widget issue when initially setting up their phone?

And btw, I appreciate everyone's feedback about their opinions on tw and what they've been running on their new note 4s!
