[Q] Stock KF stuck in boot loop - Win7 PC doesn't recognize KF - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After searching and reading many threads and trying several "fixes", I think my last resort is this post (at least before I try Firekit or similar). I hope I didn't miss the one thread that has my answer.
Background:
Using Win7 64 bit
KF 1st gen (I believe)
Completely stock
Using Amazon KF HD charger and USB cable Amazon supplied when similar issue happened with our other KF (that new charger fixed that one)
Symptoms:
While plugged into the charger the green light will appear and a few seconds later we'll get the "KINDLE FIRE" logo on screen, sometimes it's animated and sometimes not. Sometimes the logo appears for about 5 seconds and other times about 30 seconds. When the logo appears the screen back-light first starts out low and then after a second or so it will brighten until the logo disappears and the KF appears to turn off, at least until some seconds later the green power light will come on and the process starts all over and keeps repeating. On occasion during the cyclic boot process I have seen the slide lock screen which was unresponsive and once I saw the screen with the KF device name, time, WiFi status, batt level (and no I didn't notice), etc. Lately I haven't seen either of those screens again, just the logo or nothing.
I've downloaded the Android SDK and installed the drivers but when I plug the KF into any of my USB ports the KF is not recognized. So if I can't get the PC to recognize the KF I can't go any further with trying to restore to factory default using TWRP or similar.
So my question is does anyone have something else I/we can try before moving on to Firekit? Thanks to all for your time and attention. BTW Amazon offered to sell me a new KFHD for $129 but I just don't have that in my budget right now so your help is much appreciated.

I appreciate the quick reply. So my follow-up is to say I'm using the USB cable that came with the Amazon charger they sent when having problems with our other KF. Is that not a "factory" cable? If not, do you have any idea if this one would work: ebay.com/itm/like/271275399661?lpid=82 ??? Or do I need to spend $17 on this one: amazon.com/Factory-Amazon-Kindle-Motorola-Tablets/dp/B00BPDH4G4 ???
Thanks again.

Yes 'factory' as in the one they use at OEM to install software.
Build Your own factory Cable is also an option if you can solder tiny things.

unknown boot loop/brick

Hi all,
Ran into something new and may be educational to all of you at my moronic expense.
System Config:
Rooted with twerp recovery 2.0 and i am pretty sure i am running kernel 3.0. I have the Kindle fire utility as well as the Kindle Unbrick Utility
What i did:
one of my biggest enjoyments with this community is the folks at CM, so after flashing a new CM9 rom, i believe i left the fire too long without charging her. Battery died completely.
My problem:
plug the fire into the wall: power button turns green, screen lights and yellow triangle comes on with the "press power button for recovery' phrase.. after 15 seconds (approx) power button changes to orange and the fire reboots. power button turns green, screen lights and yellow triangle comes on with the "press power button for recovery' phrase.. and the process continues over and over again.
plug the fire into USB: same thing
Tried to use KFU:
fire will not mount so obviously device will not connect.
stuck at <waiting on device>
Device will not even register on the desktop. so the driver fix that is running around as of late failed
tried to shell with ADB: fire will not mount so obviously making a connection will not work
tried KUU:<error: device not found> and <waiting on device> are the returning messages.
I believe this is beyond the soft brick realm however, if any of you super developers out there can assist, I will greatly appreciate it.
thanks in advance
sounds like a dead battery.

with that in mind, is there a way to charge the battery without having the KF power up or run through the loop it is currently in?

will it charge going through this perpetual cycle?
it seems when ever i plug anything in to attempt to charge the KF, it is vaulted into this cycle.

Having the exact same issue and no one seems to help past this point. :/ If you find an answer would you mind shooting it my way too? I've been searching for days about this.
While it's plugged in, hold the power button until it shuts down completely and leave it alone for a while. If that doesn't work, your next step is a factory programming cable.

[Q] Kindle Fire stuck in FFF & Fast Boot mode

I rooted my KF with FFU .9.6 Everything was fine, I got AOKP M5 installed. However, it didn't seem to charge, even though the orange light was on. So it died. Now it goes from FFF to fastboot(kindle fire boot(in orange). I can't start it, or get it in recovery. I have tried re-installing drivers. I have tried Kindle brick utility. I can't seem to get it started. I have rooted previous mobile phones: og Droid, Droid X, and my current Galaxy Nexus. I have never bricked any mobile device. This Fire is driving me nuts. It is my second one. The first one would not charge, and this one does the same thing unless I wiggle the cord. Should I send it back to Amazon, they said they would replace it due to the charging issue(before I rooted it). PLEASE HELP
From your description it sounds like you need to try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25400963
Once you get everything in order, use recovery to install FFF1.4. That will enable you to charge your device in extreme low power conditions.
Also, AOKP M5 and other 3.0 kernel versions of ICS have charging issues. The charging indicator doesn't work, even if it is charging and sometimes it will only charge while asleep, but it's very intermittent. It charges fine in TWRP so if all else fails you can take that route.
I re-installed kfu .95. I re-installed FFF. This got me into recovery. Then I did a factory reset, installed AOKP M5, apps. Bingo, my fire is back from the dead. I have it charging with kindle fire wall charger. The orange light shows, but it does not say charging on the home screen.

It won't
Ok. It is really hard to get the Fire charging. I have to mess with the cord to get the orange light. Like I said this is my second one. Does anyone else have this issue?

Create a backup and switch to a cm7 rom to see if what you are experiencing is due to the device or the kernel. All 3.0 kernel roms have charging issues in some form or another, including the one you're describing.
Well, I figured out that under settings>device>battery shows charging, even though orange light is off. Actually when you turn on screen the led lights orange. Once the screen shuts off, the light goes off. But, is still continues to charge. Screwy.
Its charging the battery icon just doesn't indicate it but if you enable the battery bar and locate it above your nav bar and enable charging animation you will see it is charging

Dead Kindle. Does not charge or turn on. Will not connect to pc.

I have searched and searched for three nights already. I actually opened the kindle in fustrsation hoping it was only a lose cable or something. No luck. My kindle was running ICS and one night it turned off. I plugged it in the charger and called it a night. In the morning I turned it back on but no go. And its been like that ever since. I have no idea how to get it to connect to my laptop. I tried everything and anything I found here and elsewhere online. Everyone says to connect or put on boot mode or something. But I have no idea if the kindle is even on or not. It just has a blank screen and thats it. I tried using the various tools such as kindle unblock utility and kindle utility but there useless since I can't connect the kindle cause i don't know if its on or not. Then I tried loading the drivers that came with unbrick utility but it says something about driver is unsigned. Scoured the web for an answer to THAT dilemma and nobody has a real solution. Seems every solution starts with, "connect device in fasboot or slow boot or snail boot" but the whole point of seeking a solution as far as Im concerned is cause the device DOES NOT CONNECT OR CANT CONECT TO ANYTHING!!!! Im at my wits end. Its three in the morning and my wife is on her 5th dream...again this week!!!! Please help!!! Im willing to ship this POS out to anyone that can fix it and I will donate a g2X rooted and unlocked for your time!!!! I swear I will!!! I just want to get this over with. PLEASE HEKP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you need to use firekit.
it allows you to boot your pc of a linux usb live pen drive with some tools preloaded.
all you need is to shortout a contact inside kindle and insert usb cable into kindle at the same time.
ill post a link in a minute. just follow the instructions exactly and i'm sure it will bring your kindle back to life.
hope this helps

I did bricked my first Kindle, then I called Amazon (it still in warrentee), they sent me a new one next day. They tell you to send the old one back. They did not even ask me what happened. I've just said it no longer worked.

I was in the same situation as you were, i messed up my KF but was able to revive it using the USB Firekit (link in the first reply you got), just follow it carefully. This will require you to open up your KF.
Dont despair, it will work
if you have probs with firekit.
post as much detail as pos of what you've done and where you're at in the process.
its not too hard as long as you follow the post to the T.
let us know how you get on.
cheers

do you know what 3.0 kernel version you had installed. if it was #10 or lower follow the instructions below. my kf did the same thing and it's any easy fix. most likely your kf's battery is completely utterly dead.
NOTE: this may or may not work depending on what the kfu or unbrick utility did without you knowing.
1. plug your kf into the wall charger.
2. press and hold the power button until the light comes on. if this happens it will boot to a black blank screen but you will notice the backlight is on. let it sit this way overnight.
3. after it has sat overnight, unplug it from the charger and hold the power button until it powers off (light will go off as well ass back light lcd)
4. hold the power button until it comes back on. let it fully boot. you'll notice the time and date are incorrect.
5. power off again
6. download hashcodes newest 3.0 kernel #12
7. power back on and boot into recovery.
8. flash the newest kernel you downloaded
9. wipe dalvik and cache
10. reboot normally.
you'll then need to reset the date and time and you shouldnt have any problems after that.

I have it working now. But one issue. The Kindle boots up normally now first into FFF then to android. Everything seems to be working fine except my battery shows 0% charge all the time. It does not charge. I unplug it and immediately shuts down. Anyone know what I can do to fix this? By the way, thanks for everyone who helped or contributed some input. By the way if anyone wants to know the method that work led was the Firekit method using Ubuntu Linux and the short test trick. I tried it several times even had some help on Teamviewer from a very helpful member. But after trying as few commands, it finally booted to the yellow triangle and after that I went to recovery and reinstalled CM9. So yeah everything seems to work now except the battery basically acts like its not even there.

Just flash FFF 1.4a, plug it into a USB Port on your computer, and take a nap. It should charge enough that you can reboot into your system and let you continue charging it normally.

KFU is for the original kindle fire. Go post your problem in the KF2/KFHD QA. Most likely you have bricked your kindle. And factory cables don't work on that kf.
Whew. Didn't have to do anything elaborate on mine. Someone unplugged the wall wart and I didn't notice it for a few days. Held the power button for a minute or so as suggested above. Then tried a normal power on. That worked :good: Now I have it sitting in TWRP at 1%. When it gets over 10% I'll reboot into the OS.
THANK YOU!

Stuck on initial boot screen

My wife and I bought my father-in-law a Fire TV which worked fine for some time. Then he brought it to my house because it wasn't working any more. I don't know what he did, but all it does is hang at the initial boot screen (black screen, white Amazon logo). Amazon has sent us a replacement Fire TV, but they let me keep the brick. Is there any way to recover this Fire TV? I've read through some of the threads. Tried using a keyboard to enter recovery (didn't work). Haven't tried adb (I don't have a USB-A to USB-A cable).
Thanks!
same issue
i hadn't used my fire tv for a couple months but was working flawlessly the last time I did use it and now no matter what tv I try to connect it to or how many hdmi cables I tried I can't get my fire tv to boot past the initial boot screen of the white Amazon logo it don't make it to the fire tv logo or any other screen it's just a black screen and screens all say no signal. I had rooted it back before I stopped using it with towel root and had adb enabled but after I boot it and it goes past the Amazon logo to the black screen the logo the led on the box is white then starts blinking then turns an amber color and sorta pulses or blinks differently than the while led blinked. Any help would b much appreciated I have been searching all over several forums and websites for days and nobody seems like they r having this issue so I'm totally lost

Unplugged HDMI and Bricked FTV2

Hi All,
I recently unplugged my AFTV2's HMDI cable and then when replugging it, i cannot get video signal back.
I try to restart, and it doesn't get past the Amazon logo. No colour logo at all. It seems bricked form unplugging the HDMI cable?
To make things worse, this is the 3rd box I have had with this problem.
Any ideas what could be causing it? It has Firestarter and KODI installed.
Thanks
Same Here
That is interesting.
About an hour ago exchanged a 3 day old Fire TV at Best Buy for a new one because of this exact behavior. I thought it was defective. It worked for a couple of days, my kid unplugged it and re-plugged it a few times because the screen had gone black, and afterwards nothing. Booted to white logo, then went straight to black screen. I could connect to it with ADB, but it would no longer output video except for the initial white amazon logo at startup.
Also was running Firestarter and Kodi, nothing else (latest firmware, no root)

Have you tried entering recovery and doing a factory reset?
See this thread here
I got this type of behavior and in fact it was my TV just unplug it and plug it back
My set up was originally through an amp, but I now have it plugged directly in to the TV. It makes no difference.
I only unplugged it because I was trying to solve the issue where all the blacks are crushed.
Amazon help just keep saying they are faulty and will replace them, but when I push them to try and offer a better solution as to why it keeps happening, they just tell me it won't happen again.
Dull.

No matter how many times I try, and believe me, it's a lot of times, I cannot get it to activate recovery.
I also can't get it be seen with ADB. It's recognised on the network, but ADB can't connect.
Just to close this.
It was my AVR putting voltage down the HDMI and causing the unit to brick.
Nothing to do with the AFTV.
