LG WCP-300 and Nexus 5 compatibility - Nexus 5 Accessories

Hi guys,
I have recently bought LG WCP-300 for my Nexus 4 - http://www.lg.com/us/cell-phone-accessories/lg-WCP-300-wireless-charging-pad
I must say it is a very sexy device and works like a dream.
I have now ordered Nexus 5 ;P
Looks like there will be new wireless charger for N5 (and N7 2013) as per http://www.engadget.com/2013/10/31/google-wireless-charging-pad/
I am wondering - do you think will LG WCP-300 still work with Nexus 5??
Any feedback appreciated

Pretty sure any QI charger will work just fine.

That would be awesome I'll report back as soon as I get my N5

It will work fine. It is qi certified so it will work plus the bonus is it is made by LG so it will more likely work with it.

The 300 works with my N4 & my N7. Expect the same for my N5.

Hi,
I have tried both the Nexus 4 and now a Nexus 5 (arrrived today) with the LG WCP-300 wireless charger.
Both devices work fine.
The nexus 7 (2013) works OK as well.
Any QI wireless charger should work. They should all be compatible.

I concur. I have a Nexus 4, 5, and 7. All three charge perfectly on all three of my WCP-300's. I didn't want to buy new chargers so I'm happy.

How long does it take to charge the phone budd ?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Its almost as fast as the OEM charger that came with the N5. I can barely tell a difference. The N5 comes with a 1.2. The charging performance is identical to my N4 except the N5 has a huge charging zone in comparison.

Mainly, the 300 is a ton smaller. Thinking charging speed is the same mostly.

Have you had any trouble with the N5 and the wireless charging wakelock that kept popping up on the N4 on 4.3 and older?

For those with the LG WCP-300, or WCP-700 for that matter, are you noticing that the charger fails to stop charging once the battery is full? I read in another thread (which I can't find now) that the WCP-300 is having this issue with the Nexus 5.
I have the WCP-700 charger and it works great aside from that it won't stop charging the Nexus 5 once it is full. With my Nexus 4 it would stop charging and the blinking green light would just become solid and stop charging until the battery fell below 95% then it would start charging again.
I'm baffled that this is happening with an LG phone and an LG charger but it is and now I'm afraid to keep using it with my phone.

Yes, the LG WCP-300 that I have worked with my Nexus 4, works with my current Nexus 5, and works with cases on. I love just setting it down and forgetting it (after I hear the beep that it was a successful dock). So simple, a Republican can get it.

Honestly is is that hard to plug it in? Not trying to sound judgmental here, everyone has the right to want what they want but I just don't see the draw here. It isn't like it's portable, it's still in an outlet. You get to pay 50 bucks to skip the annoying, always difficult *plug into device* step? This seems ludicrous! Is there something I am missing here?

It will eliminate the chance of breaking the fragile micro USB port if the tablet is accidentally knocked off or dropped while connected.
Never thought of that! I have never dropped anything in my entire life even as a baby, but I have a 3 year old! Might be worth buying a cheap charger if I can find one for like 15-20 bucks

Wireless Chargers

My dislike for charger wires eclipses the sun itself so I'm eager to purchase a wireless charging pad for my Nexus devices. Anyone have any experience with the ones listed on Amazon (can't post links yet)?
The Anker Qi charging pad looks like it supports the N7, but it's a bit expensive.

As Google went with a standardized Wireless Charging System (Qi), it makes it easier to find one that will be compatible. Unfortunately it seems that I cannot find any stores that carry chargers so I will need to look online.

My LG charger doesn't work at the moment (also purchased from the Verizon store). My N4 charges just fine with the charger. I know the LG charger is a little small but I expected it to work. I actually have two of the chargers and neither work. I am stock unrooted and updated to the latest build.
Any one else have problems with wireless charging?
Update: I exchanged my N7-2 at Best Buy and received a fully functional device. I can confirm the WCP-300 charges the N7-2. In my experience, it only charges when the charger is centered on the back of the N7-2, and you have to hold it there for a second or two.
I have an owlpad which works for the n4....no joy on the new nexus 7. I can find one spot where the light on the unit turns from green to red which means it should be charging but the nexus 7 never goes into charging mode...within 10 seconds the light on the charger goes green again.

Sorry for the pictures craptastic pictures lol, but it shows off the angle well. It sits even more firmly on the orb than the N4 (I'm guessing the glass back on the N4 just makes it more prone to slipping). The N7 doesn't slide at all while on the orb, had it charging through the night with no problems.

TEKHD is correct. Wireless charging is not built into the phones out of the box. Samsung sells a wireless charging kit for the S4 that has a thicker back plate with the contacts inside of it. It's expensive and makes the S4 more bulky. No thanks. I would highly prefer one of these WiQiQi wireless chargers instead. They use the original back cover and the contacts are on a thin film that goes under the cover and sits on the battery. They have one for the Note 2 but I don't know if it would work on the Note 3. I'd like to find out.

Thanks for the info on the pins being on the wrong side, TEKHD. I sent an email to the company that makes the WiQiQi chargers asking if they are working on a Note 3 version. I'll report back of I get a reply. Indeed there are issues with carriers and wireless charging. I don't know why they would cover the pins to disable it but it's been done on some phones. The LG G2 for example has an exclusive with Verizon for wireless charging and I guess the other carriers versions don't have it. Lame

Yeah if someone can take an old Note 2 charging pad, bend it backwards and put it on the Note 3 it should work, just like in the video. Well it should work if T-Mobile and Samsung didn't disable the wireless charging like it did on the Note 2. As you can see in the video, the charging pad says Note II and not III. He just modified it a little. I have a few charging pads, but no Note 3 as still waiting on whether I should switch to another carrier. Otherwise, I'd have picked a Note 3 up by now and tried it

In theory with a 500mAh charge rate it should take 4.6 hours to charge a completely dead 2300mAh battery (bad for your battery btw). So far with my phone on standby it's gone from 30% to 52% in 58 minutes (I have the stopwatch running).
In theory I should have a 5160mAh battery combined lol.

LG G2 Charger on Nexus 5

Hi all
Can the LG G2 chrager be used with nexus 5?
It has 1.8A output while the nexus 5 one has 1.2A.
I really need to know because i have a LG G2 charger at work and am afraid to use it and ruin my battery.
Thanks

Sure you can use it! The only thing that can ruin your battery is if the charger has bigger V and W output but it is same with the original nexus charger. Maybe your phone I getting charged a little bit faster.

I read somewhere that charging you battery faster than it is intended to will damage it in the long run.
Are you sure that there is no problem at all?

I'm 100% sure! You can only damage your battery only when the V and W output is more.
For example I used to charged my old galaxy S3 with a 2A charger with no issues at all.

I'm charging Nexus 5 with Samsung 2A charger. No problem.
My "no problem" means that 1.8A charger works well, charges fast, no boom!!
But you are also right, fast charging causes heat, and some battery life shortening.
Generally we don't call it as "ruining battery", because battery is just accessary.
Other important thing is, even though you use 1.8A charger, you might not get 1.8A from charger owing to USB cable.
Everyone here is wrong, unfortunately.
Yes it's safe, but it will NOT charge faster. The nexus 5 will limit it to 1.2A automatically.

The all phones itself have electronics for limit the charging current.

Both of you are sort of right, but also both of you are totally wrong. Yes, the Nexus 5 is limited, but no, it's not to 1.2A.
This is just what I got with a generic 2A charger and a good USB cable. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49509790&postcount=52
There are people (here on XDA) who have also gotten higher than that. I believe some people have gotten a little over 1600mA.

I was under the impression it limits it to 1.5A:

my apologies, yes 1.5A
Got 1650mA spikes with SGS4 charger.
In theory it should charge @1.5A as that is the limit of Texas Instruments BQ24192 IC used in Nexus 5.
