[Q] Is anyone else experiencing Dolphin Browser locking up on Note 3? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Hey guys and gals,
I love Dolphin Browser and have been using it since I entered the world of Android with an S3 and then a Note 2. I switched to a Note 3 a few weeks ago and I've been having really strange issues with Dolphin. It's getting to the point where it's unusable. I've wiped cached, uninstalled, reinstalled, updated to latest Flash apk, so I've done all the troubleshooting I can think of. I'm hoping someone can help or at least tell me I'm not the only one experiencing this.
When I open Dolphin, I can click through one or two links. I don't know exactly what causes this, but soon after, I press a link and the browser freezes. I can open new tabs and zoom in an out of the tabs that are currently open, but the status bar does nothing, I cannot interact with any links/images/anything on the loaded pages, and nothing else loads. I have to close the app and wait at least 15 min, or wipe the cache and open the app again. Same thing happens every time.
It's extremely weird and very annoying. I love the app but will have to switch if I cannot fix this issue.
Has anyone else been experiencing this? Do you know how to fix it?

You are note alone. Apparently there are alot of users having this same issues and it has been addressed to the Dolphin Team. No email back on an update.

Great, hope to see it fixed soon. Since I can guess you're a Dolphin user, what secondary browser do you recommend/think is the best? I love how Dolphin renders webpages and haven't found another that does quite as well (IMO).

I switch between Chrome and Stock depending on what i'm doing. Both have benefits

I use naked browser pro, aosp browser and chrome. Those are my favorites in that order.

I have no problems with Dolphin at all and that's all I use. ...I need more info to help. .. What rom? Did you restore data? Etc
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

I use Dolphin and I'm not seeing exactly what you are but it the browser is getting progressively annoying. What I'm seeing are pages taking forever to load. I click a link, the screen goes white...wait...wait....wait....get tired of waiting so I push 'stop' and then the page displays immediately. It's like it wants to pre-load the entire page before it shows anything at all, then it all comes up at once. Dolphin on my N4 recently developed this same behavior. If they don't get their stuff together I'll be ditching it.

My favorite browser by far and wide is Firefox. I used to use Dolphin before FF Mobile was stable enough for full time use but these days FF wipes the floor with Dolphin in terms of features. Firefox has an extensive addon collection for adblock, useragent switching, full screen, etc. plus it supports Flash Player and html5 videos perfectly. If you're not happy with stock and Chrome definitely try Firefox!

Have you tried to send a bug report to Dolphin Team?
You can send a detailed report in Dolphin Settings > Help > Send Feedback > Not responding.
I often do this to make Dolphin realize my issue and fix it.
You should try it !

LG nitro browser lag

Hello everyone. I'm noticing a 10-20 second lag when I open my Internet browser. I'm running dolphin hd. Any ideas?
Yeah I get the same problem, maybe I'll try a different browser. Any suggestions for a good browser?
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda premium
Its funny I don't have that problem.
I still haven't set a default browser so everytime I open something it asks me stock browser or dolphin.
Or maybe because I've only had the phone for 5 days

It homecalls your browsing history. it takes 10...20 sec. You should better try boat mini
Glad to know I'm not the only one. I guess I'll try to keep the stored information deleted more frequently. If it doesn't help, I'll give another browser a try but man, I love the gesture feature a ton. Nothing like it...
Try Opera. It's a fantastic browser that's really fast and smooth.
+1 for Boat Mini. It's lightweight and fast. Switch to the grey theme.
A few thoughts...
* Dolphin HD is one of the few browser that will sync up with Google Bookmarks...Which is great, UNLESS you're like me and have HUNDREDS of links which will bog down the browser on startup tremendously.
* As has been warned about Dolphin, it apparently reports usage back to its' servers so that lag is likely due to that comm going on.
* Sometime bad things happen to even good apps...Check your running apps and kill/restart Dolphin and see if that helps.
* I have 4 browsers loaded, since there's still yet no perfect ONE browser.
** Boat Mini (when I just want to view something quickly and cleanly)
** Dolphin HD (Usually my general go-to browser)
** Opera Mobile (If there's any particularly content that Dolphin can't render properly)
** Firefox (Because I'm holding out hope that Mozilla will EVENTUALLY get it right with the mobile version so I can finally be in-sync between my phone and desktop!)
Found out where the delay in the stock browser was coming from. I disabled browser syncing in dolphin and it fixed the issue. Anyone else notice how choppy the stock browser is when scrolling? Any ideas what may cause it, or how to fix it?
Have you enabled "Force 2D Hardware Acceleration" (can't remember the name exactly) in the developer menu?
I'm actually running stock gingerbread, so no dev menu.

There's your problem right there. 2D applications aren't hardware accelerated in Gingerbread, and it's actually well-known that the stock Gingerbread browser is very choppy.
Try Opera Mobile...its probably the best you can do on Gingerbread.

Best browser and why

Which browser you use and the reasons why. (Maybe compare features with other browsers) i used boat browser but after having problems viewing full site web i am indecided now between opera chrome or firefox...
I use stock browser... and chome... was using dolphin... but its just "TOO" much for me ... my only issue with chrome is lack of flash... but its hella fast... but stock browser seemms to be a happy medium in most cases for my usage
U should try dolphin browser beta. Fastest browser out it uses the new HTML5 . No flash but I have stock browser for that
Tried Chrome but caused massive battery drain. Uninstalled and great battery life returned. Currently use Dolphin browser and I like all the extras I never use.
I like Dolphin. Tried Firefox a few releases ago but found it very frustrating. Tried the stock browser after flashing my phone with a new ROM but ended up getting Dolphin anyways. Dolphin does have a ton of extras that I'll likely never use but I still find it fast enough and super intuitive to use.

I am also noticing chrome eats battery like crazy! Is fast though. Sucks that doesnt support flashplayer. And whoever mentions about what dolphin includes and blabla i think is just lies. Dolphin devs say they includ advanced stuff but truth is thwir browser is slower than chrome boat firefox and maybe opera.
Doesnt dolphin cause alot of battery drain as well? I switched to chrome because i always see tunny browser or something from using dolhin browser using up my battery a lot! Been using chrome for the past couple of months but I do miss the dolphin gestures!
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I use Chrome on the PC, so Chrome is the obvious choice, mostly because of the automated bookmark sync (I have loads of them). I like using the AOSP browser + CMarks, but it doesn't display the xda page properly after I log in (all text is gray and hard to read). Dolphin does the same thing. Only after I log in.
Not trying Firefox because the desktop version is a joke, why would the mobile version be different? And Opera hasn't been relevant for years.

I concur. I found Firefox 14 to be incredibly slow. I don't like chrome (personal choice). Dolphin beta crashed too much for me.
I am using Dolphin 9.0.0. It seems to be the most stable and fastest to me. I don't like the menus sliding in from the sides. They tend to come up when I am trying to scroll sideways and I haven't figured out how to turn them off
Please remember that free advice is worth exactly what you pay for it
I think im switching back to boat browser. I wish it had an appearance like chrome or firefox
I do recall switching from Boat to Dolphin for the extras I don't really use. Might switch back myself.

Being able to swipe between tabs on chrome makes a big difference for me. It would have to be chrome in my book.
Chrome
I switched over completely to Chrome, I was using dolphin but I like the ability to switch between devices a lot easier.
Boat. Enough said.
They call me "Jelly" cuz jam don't shake like this!
Xscope Pro. It was the only browser I could find that would let me make an appt. for the DMV from work, I wanna say it was a java based website, but whatever it was, Xscope has been able to take anything I throw at it, and it's got a dark colored theme which is a plus for me because I hate looking at bright white light all the time. Also as a throwback, Steel was an amazing browser for it's time.
Try pushing menu => more => settings => lab => advanced swipe settings and choose disable
You may need to scroll down in settings to see the lab option.

Chrome for Android, or for our device, simply sucks IMO. Slow when switching back/forward and has an incredibly annoying bug when you're searching for something on Google(ironic) and when you input letters, they misteriously get deleted, switched around, etc. It works when you're searching from the address bar but when you're on google.com and editing the search field, things get messed up seriously.
I can not recommend Opera Mobile enough. It's fast as hell and offers more features IMO. If syncing your browsing history is not of huge importance, switch to Opera.

Chrome sucks on this tablet

I always felt Web browsing was too sluggish on my T800. It even felt felt like pages would take a long time to load... as if my internet was slow.
I saw in another thread someone mentioned that the stock browser performed better for them, so I gave it a shot. Man, what a difference. It is VERY noticeably more responsive. Smooth scrolling, pages load faster (though I still feel not fast enough... no idea why).
Why does chrome perform so poorly on this tablet? Or is it that the stock browser is just that much better?
I wish I could import my browsing history, bookmarks, etc from chrome. Main reason why I used it.
Anyone else noticed how bad chrome runs on this tablet?

I'm just as disappointed as you especially when chrome is a Google product. Lately I've been using Opera for tablet and it's much better then all of the other ones. There are some minor bugs but nothing i can't live with.
It is rather slow on this tablet.
The thing the stock browser does best is embedded videos. It is almost at PC level performance. In Chrome or Dolphin forget having a positive experience. In Dolphin videos take 10 seconds to load then constantly buffer.

Hmmm. I'm running Chrome Beta as well and I guess it seems to load pages faster. The way that Chrome does bookmarks continues to annoy. 3 clicks. Every time I want to access a bookmark it takes 3 clicks, menu, bookmarks, bookmark. Could Google literally make it any harder? Neater Bookmarks which works so well on Chrome desktop isn't available on Android. Also I can't even add a new bookmark to my desktop bookmarks from my tablet. And in Kit Kat Google removed the ability to sync the stock browser with Chrome bookmarks. No worries, want to just import your bookmarks into the stock browser? Sorry you can't do that now either. It's as if instead of fixing Chrome they are trying to force us into using it by breaking everything else.
How about a bookmarks sidebar Google? I mean would it KILL you?
Don't you just hate it when that nifty software "upgrade" breaks all of your favorite features?
Chrome keeps your browser history in sync on all devices, so no need for bookmarks, manual syncing, whatsoever.

That is if you want to use Chrome. Before KitKat you could sync Chrome bookmarks with the stock browser. No more. Also you cannot add a bookmark to your desktop synced Chrome bookmarks. Try it. You can't. So so lame.
Just tested. Samsung tablet hack doesn't make stock Chrome any faster. Does seem to speed up Beta a bit. Considering all of the other hassles Chrome browser delivers almost not worth it.

Atlas shows promise but a couple things make it not yet competitive with the stock browser:
1) It needs a dedicated bookmarks button on the menubar. As far as I can tell you have to click menu then bookmarks and then your bookmark. 3 steps just like Chrome. I could have missed the dedicated button if there is one.
2) The bookmarks tree collapses every time you select a bookmark. It should reopen to the last folder you had open so you don't have to drill down each time.
3) Doesn't seem to play embedded videos yet. It will play them on the YouTube website but could not get them to launch in other websites.
4) It is a little slower to load Web pages with Javascript enabled than stock browser IMHO.
Nice start but not a stock replacement yet.

As far as I can tell the only browser which allows for complete unlimited bookmarking across all platforms is Maxthon. They have a nice desktop browser and seamlessly syncs over the cloud with your Android Maxthon. Also easy to import bookmarks from other platforms. The ONLY thing that makes me nuts about Maxthon is that every time you choose a new bookmark from your bookmark tree it opens it in a new tab so you end up with 80 tabs open. There is no way to turn this off and no reason for it. It is like they created the perfect browser then left one insanely stupid thing right in the middle of it, like a supermodel with broccoli in her teeth. Tons of people complain about this on their message boards but they never change it. For some reason THEY think it's a good idea. It's not.
Anyway for multiplatform bookmark syncing and fast browsing you can't beat Maxthon - just that one damned stupid "feature" makes it just a little less that perfect.
If you try this use the Fast version, not the Tablet version. Embedded videos are super fast using this.
UPDATE. Damn this latest version of Maxthon BLAZES.

Chrome is not full screen

Yea I switched to chrome. I guess not using beta isn't that big of a deal. Thanks for the response

I'm going to jump on this thread while it's still fresh, if nobody minds.
I just switched my Nexus 5 from CM11 to PA4.6b6 two days ago, and this is the only remaining issue. I launched Chrome Beta the first time, and it showed up as a small, greyed window in the middle of my screen. Eff that, I said, and looked for advice on the internet. I found this thread, installed Chrome itself, launched that and was pleased to see it occupy the full screen (not immersively, mind you).
I just tapped my Chrome shortcut again moments ago to find that it was now opening in that little, greyed out window. Wtf, I wondered. I tried Beta. Same thing. I closed both windows by tapping the home nav, and then i opened Chrome again from the recent apps list. Et voila, it's back to full size.
My questions are "wtf?", "how do I make it just use the available real estate and not open in that terrible tiny dark window?", and "should I file a JIRA issue for this? Is this srsly expected behavior?"
I love the ROM, I love the work you guys do, and I wanna be helpful, so let me know if there's anything else I can provide or tell you about my experience.
Thank you!
Well, Google pushed their beta changes to stable. The problem is a flag that Google set that launches chrome in windowed mode...
We are trying to figure out a way around it but with work heavy on lollipop right now, kitkat may fall by the wayside.
The temporary solution is to go back to an older version of chrome.

I can get behind the idea of work being heavy on Lollipop, so no worries there. I'll be seriously excited to see new builds based on 5.0, so work away! I presume there's no ETA on that as of yet, right?
No EtA

Workaround:
Open Chrome
Hit Home
Relaunch chrome from recent apps
As long as Chrome isn't killed, it will remain full screen.
I also got a backup from Chrome v38.
Will share on request.

Nicely found, confirmed on a n7
For anyone running Xposed. Download Xhalofloatingwindow module and blacklist Chrome. That worked for me

I'm sorry, but do you mean Chrome beta on Paranoid Android, or just Chrome Beta in general? I have used Chrome Beta before, but this has never happened to me.

Any ROM that has floating mode.....
ANY ROM.
Google has fixed it in their latest beta though.
