Wireless charging, top choices - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I'm going to be purchasing a nexus 7 here in the near future and would like to get some info on best choices for wireless chargers. Thanks on advance.

Nokia DT-900 works great and is relatively inexpensive. I have it and a Tylt stand-up charger and both work flawlessly with a couple of different cases I use. The Tylt is nice but pricey (I got a deal on one).

Plenty on eBay from China for 20$ or less.
They work great.
Got one. Still OK after 1 month of heavy use.

I have the Nexus 4 charging orb. Works with the Nexus 7 and sets it at a usable angle as well.

I recently order a TRUE wireless charger by Choe: http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Char...&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=upgraded+choe+qi+10000
It is an integrated 10,000mah power bank that can charge without being plugged in. Also has external USB for charging other devices.
It ships from Japan, but I ordered mine on the second & it is already in Los Angeles & thru ISC (Customs). They play it safe with shipping estimates, but it will have only of taken about a week when I receive it. I'll report back on quality & impressions after I have used it for a few days.

Got it from eBay.

Looking for a good wireless charger for my nexus 5? get one now with DC 5V/1000mA to 2000mA - amazon.co.uk/dp/B00C40OG22 :victory:

I just purchased this Zens Wireless Charger :
http://www.androidcentral.com/zens-wireless-single-charger-review
Looks good and works fine. Just a heads-up...charging times are double that of the original Nexus 7 cable charger. A full charge takes 6 hours vs 3 hours. I have tested this extensively. Price is pretty high I must admit as well. The real benefit of course is you can just put the N7 down on the wireless charger and forget about it.

Plus 1 on the Nokia DT-900 it is fantastic and unlike a lot of others it's not fussy about where you place your N7

Got one of these myself, charges through my moko case, and charges very quick, used some velcro and attached it to this, it's still on sale from at&t for 50% off. Highly recommend this.

I got the new qi charger for nexus devices on Google play. Its a nice update from the nexus 4 charger, and really compact.

Wireless Charger Question

I've had a Nexus 7 since they launched last year and I just got the new one on Wednesday. I'd like to get a wireless charger, will any wireless charger work or do I need to look for specific attributes?

As long as it is designed for the Qi standard it should work. I have a LG WCP-300 and I used it to charge the Nexus 7 I bought for a friend. It worked fine, but since it's so small the tablet was poorly balanced on it. That charger is at some Verizon stores for $40 + tax, and Verizon online for the same price with free shipping. The WCP-300 comes with it's own power supply.
I have seen good reviews for the new Samsung wireless charger, it's $50, but it may still be available for half off. You'll need to get a separate power supply, but I think it probably needs to be 1.8 or 2 amp output. It's also larger, so the tablet won't tend to rock or slip off as easily on the LG charger.
You can see threads on both of those qi chargers over on the Nexus 4 accessories threads.

The Panasonic TM-101 is simply fantastic. Toss your tablet anywhere on the pad - and the pad will find it. Will charge multiple devices - sequentially. Nice to have a tablet that is always charged now.

the nexus orb has been great with the 7. my 4 will slide of frequently but I've had no problems with the 7
I bought the Samsung charger with 50% off coupon and so far, it works with original nexus(2 amp) plug, 2013 Nexus(1.35 amp) plug, iphone 4s/5 plug(don't know what amp).
I like that I can lay the Nexus down cross ways to see the charging indicator led come on, also works with i-blason folio case on the Nexus.
So I lay it down to see the led come on, hear the little tone from Nexus telling me that's it's charging, I close the magnetic cover and turns the screen off. I wake up next morning and it was fully charged from ~20%.
So, I'd say the Samsung charger with 50% off coupon is worth it. I think they are backordered right now though.
Any Qi charger should work. The Samsung 50% off deal is nice bout out of stock.
I JUST FOUND THIS, AT&T has the Nokia DT-900 at half off currently. That's $24.50 plus tax.

I have read that the Panasonic TM-101 will stop charging once you device reaches 100% then not touch it again to keep up the charge as the phones drains in sleep mode. Something that most other chargers do. That would just bug me.
Even though it cool, I'll be satisfied with the Nokia DT-900 I paid $25 for, and eill keep my device topped off.
Looks like you already made your choice, but I was going to put in another vote for the Panasonic TM101.
I also have a Nokia DT-900, which looks nice and is compact. The only problem is that the Nexus 7 is large compared to the charging plate, and it'll take a bit of practice to perfectly center your tablet onto the charging plate when you can't really see the charging plate under the tablet.
The Panasonic one, as you've probably read by now, automagically positions the charging coil via motors to line it up with your device. The coils light up when they move, so you can visibly see the charging coils as they center behind your Nexus 7. You can hear the motors working, but it's only about as loud as a quiet inkjet printer, so it doesn't really bug me at all.
As far as cases are concerned, you should be fine as long as the case isn't made of metal, and as long as the case isn't too thick. After experimenting a bit with placing a magazine between my N7 and the charging plate, you can get away with about 1/4" of space and still be able to charge.
Also, if you put two devices on the Panasonic, it will charge one and then move over and charge the second. I also read - somewhere - that when one of them drops down to 90%, it will charge again. Unproven by me, since my tablet is always fully charged when I pick it up. Loving it - neatest gadget I have bought in a long time.

I'm not sure what your talking about. I just roughly center my N7 on the Nokia DT-900 and it charges. I'd have to be grossly off for it not to charge. As long as I'm placing my N7 on the charger and not tossing from 2 feek away it works flawlessly. Something must be wrong with either your N7 or your charger.

If that's true, that sounds great. But read or saw a video review that said the opposite. I don't own the Panasonic TM-101, so I don't know which is correct. Maybe someone who has first hand knowledge can chime in.

Which wireless charger should I buy?

I want to buy a wireless charger for the Nexus 7(2nd gen obviously). I was think about the Nexus 4 wireless charger, but it seems that the Nexus 7 would be too tall for a perfect fit on the charger. Also Google has "not yet" launched any wireless chargers specific for the Nexus 7. What are the prospects of a wireless charger from Google designed specifically for the Nexus 7 this year? Should I go for the Nexus 4 charger? or should I buy a differ QI charger like Energizer ?

If you're looking for a budget one:
CHOE Qi Wireless Charger Mat
Isn't too bad. I use it. Not bad for the price. I think it came out to ~27 USD after shipping.
Not great, but at the same time worth what you get for it.
Edit: Forgot to mention that it did take about 10 days for it to arrive to me, dunno if that matters for you. It ships from China.

They are marked down to $24.50 and if you buy 2 items you'll get an additional 10% off. If you buy a third, I believe it knocks it down to 25% off. Anyway, I bought two, one for the wife and one for myself with tax for $47. Not bad. I think I'll take Artood2s's lead and make a stand!
Edit to change shipping to tax!

http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/accessories/chargers/sku6290260.html#fbid=H-aRg4I87Nd
EDIT: As the post above me stated as well. This is probably the best deal out there.
I suppose one benefit of the CHOE is that if you have multiple devices (i.e., phone, tablet etc.) that charge via USB Micro B, that you really only need 1 plug and wall adapter to bring with you if you want to charge with Qi. If all your devices do not have Qi. Not only that, this allows me to hook up my charging mat to external batteries as well as my solar panels.
That was the main reason why I got the CHOE over other options, as it is powered via USB, instead of a wall adapter.
I just went across the border this weekend and picked up the Nokia DT-900 for $24. Can't go wrong so I bought two. It works perfect with both Nexus 7 and Nexus 4 without the need to adjust the device just to get it to detect the charger. Well worth the money

just a question: the 900/910 stops charging when reach 100%?
I bought this Kookpad wireless charger off Amazon and had it waiting when my phone arrived on Monday. You can get it in white or black. It is very placement insensitive. I ordered a 2nd one last night so I could have one at the office.

When I got my N5, I used a HP Touchpad AC charger (up to 2.0 Amp output), this USB current measuring device http://dx.com/p/usb-av-usb-power-current-voltage-tester-translucent-blue-silver-235090, and then measured the input current to my Note 2, Nexus 5, and then Koolpad (linked on my previous post) with my Nexus 5 charging on it. The battery was about 55% charged so we were definitely in the constant current section of the battery charge (maximum current). The results were.
Note 2 Input current = 1.28A
Nexus 5 Input current = 1.08A
Koolpad (charging Nexus 5) Input current = 1.09A
The tranfser of power between the Qi charger and N5 isn't 100% efficient so the current into the N5 is something less than 1.09A. Guessing efficiency is 70-90% so that would mean 700mA to 900mA (0.7A - 0.9A) into the N5. I have only had the phone since Monday, but the charging time seems to be very similar between using a cord and the Koolpad Qi charger.
That is the only Qi charger I have tested so far. I don't know how others compare. While researching Qi chargers, I had read some people post that the Nokia DT-900 charged on the slower side..... no data to back that up.
Do these alle work fine with cases?
What about the samsung qi charger ?

I've order the nokia dt-900, when will arrive i will make test of time charge, temperature.
Anyway the wirless charger is not 100% efficient...if you search for a faster charge, use a 2,3a USB charger. (Remind the lion battery, for safe and longevity, have to be charge at Max the mah of the battery it self. So a 1000mah battery, Max 1a charger)
I got the Zens wireless charger from Shop Android. When it came I fell in love with the design and ordered 2 more for a total of 3 to have around the house. BIggest mistake ever. I also have the old Zens charger and the samsung S4 charger and the new zens is the only one that gets super hot. Don't know why but when I take the phone off its on fire. Sucks too because now I have 3 of these.

There's definitely some quality control issues with the Nokia chargers, but I can't imagine them saying you'd have to buy another. Their service is outstanding (experienced with multiple defective 920s) and I can't imagine they'd just go tell you to kick rocks.

Well, it was the equivalent. I had to pay $15 to ship it there (I had to use UPS, I couldn't just use a $5 flat rate box). then $10 for them to look at it, then free shipping on the way back. That's $25. I can buy another charger for that money.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that I didn't actually "buy" the charger. It just came with my 920 from att. That was their reasoning behind me paying shipping charges.

Wireless Charging

Hello all,
Does anyone have this wireless charger -> http://www.amazon.com/Lerway-Wireless-Power-Charger-Lumia920/dp/B00E9MUNWU/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
Just want to know how it works with the Nexus 5. It is at a pretty good price and decently rated as a 4 starred device on Amazon.
I have not tried that one but I bought this one recently and have excellent results. It charges with a case on so not bad at all for $10 total shipped with prime account. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00FALFNQA/ref=mp_s_a_1_50?qid=1383963766&sr=8-50&pi=SX200

sure thing.... I've been meaning to take some pictures of it anyway... it's amazing what you can do with a little bit of foam double sided sticky tape. Keep in mind this is for an N7 tablet so it has a bit bigger footprint than a phone car mount.
With that said, I hope someone (like google) does a QI car charger mount. I'm already missing my gnex pogo mount.

I know. More concerned about how exactly these things are usually configured prior to being slapped in a nice square plastic case to be plopped on a desk/dresser/etc... to see if doing what i'm thinking about is even possible. If they come small enough, i might be able to get it to work. If not, i might still be able to rig something up somehow.
Yes, though I didn't use it, this one seems really cheap. But for me, a reasonable priced product means quality to me. I would highly recommend this one, "RAVPower Qi-Enabled Wireless Charger". It's really light and a great gadget to charge my lumia 920 in a wireless way. They're also compatible with many models. You can check it here from its amazon page, simply search RavPower wireless charger.

That's kind of what I thought until I read an article online the other day that talked about how most Qi chargers are made in China for less than $2. After reading that I told my self I am not paying over $20 for a Qi charger and found one for $10 shipped on Amazon. Its been awesome and I can't find any flaws with it.

Hello all,
Does anyone have this wireless charger -> http://www.amazon.com/Lerway-Wireless-Power-Charger-Lumia920/dp/B00E9MUNWU/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
Just want to know how it works with the Nexus 5. It is at a pretty good price and decently rated as a 4 starred device on Amazon.

I bought this one- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DOW1RD0/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Works great with my Spigen Slim Armor case on and charges at 1.5A as opposed to the fastest micro usb charger & cable I could try which topped out at 1.2A.

The specs say 1a right? How is it charging higher for you? And how long is it taking for you to go 0 to 100 on charge?

-Yeah, I didn't notice the 1A detail when I bought it, but that is kinda funny. I know it's using 1.5A because I hooked it up to my Kill-a-watt and that's what it was reading- 7.5W, 5V, 1.5A. So that is kind of odd, but cool.
-I haven't tested it from 0-100, but from 2%-80%, it took right at 1hr, 15 minutes.

Yeah, the thing is awesome! Especially for the price. Crazy how much these have improved in 1 year. When the Nexus 4 came out, they were all 500mAh and like $50.

AT&T had this on sale for $24.99, picked mine up there in store.

Tylt Vu Qi Charger ($49)

Anyone use one of these with the nexus 5?
Looks like it's on sale at t-mobile with code ACCOFFER18 for $49 + Free shipping
http://www.t-mobile.com/accessories/tylt-wireless-charger-black.html?AID=11456737&PID=4485850
Looks nice, but not sure if it's worth the money since I have 3 of those nokia chargers already.

in fact, i have ordered one with that very code back on nov-15th, i'll let you know how it works, in theory, i'll get it tomorrow.. we'll see..
Update: works great on n4 and n5, both with cases.
Nicer than the official n4 wireless charger, and getting the new Google wireless charger shortly. The n4 charger does not work as nicely with the n5.
Why can't Canada ever get these kinds of deals...

I am using it right now. I was using it for my N4. Works fine. No issues to report so far.
Only thing is that it has a big footprint on your desk or nightstand.
Thanks for the post... figured I'd get it since my other is flat.
Thanks for this—just ordered two—hopefully they’ll work well!

Does anyone know how to buy a TYLT Vu in Europe ? It's at least 100$ is we want to import them :crying:
I read somewhere that these don't work with Spigen cases? Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Yeah, I put a report in the Qi database thingy a week ago. It worked fine, charging 38% an hour from a 15% charge (I don't use a case).

I am using it with a Spigen Ultra Hybrid without issues. Works on the LG flat charger as well.
That looks nice, but kinda large. The Nokia charging stand is much sleeker I think.
I'm probably gonna use LG's wireless puck, or some of these to make some DIY wireless charging stands.

I've been using it on my N4 since the kickstarter project and worked fine. No overheating issues here. Now using it on my N5. No issues either.
I ordered two Tylt Vu chargers from T-Mobile and they're working fine at the moment. There is no overheating issue. If there is, I would update this post with my findings. It's a nice charger, and works well with evecase gel TPU case with the Nexus 5. At first, I thought the evecase gel TPU case was too thick, but it turns out that I didn't plug the power connector far into the Tylt Vu receptacle. If I had any complaint, that would be it. They should've designed such that the end plug from the power adapter be an L shape instead of a straight one that you would have to push in by the ends of the power cable.

The phone. Several people on various threads in this forum have mentioned this happening with the Vu. They state the the phone is unbelievably hot to the touch and stopped charging at some point. I wanted to wait until this problem was solved but I don't want to miss this great price...

Mine has arrived! Good build quality, led isn't too bright, nice weight to it and it's so damn sexy. I love it! No way I'd pay $70 for it though, there just isn't $70 worth of charger here. $50 should be the everyday price IMO, but I understand there are development costs they're probably trying to recoup.
