I think i did something stupid...

Well its been a while since I have modded this phone. I had turned it back to stock to wait for ics and I used the odin method and it worked fine. But then two days ago I wanted to try some of the new ICS roms out so I rerooted and installed the darkside ics rom and it was good but then today I see there is an update with some important patches so I decided to go ahead and update. So I pulled the odin file in the ICS thread to update but I did not wipe and go back to GB and now it installed and passed fine but the phone is not working at all. It powers on and gets to the start screen but when I press the android to get started it gives me a force close for the android services and framework. I have tried both of the odin files that I have one was the first update to 2.3.6 and the other is the newset update with the patches. But I know that the first one the original update is good because I used it a month ago to put the phone back to stock. So does anyone have any ideas? I am thinking of tring to reinstall CWM via odin then flashing the superwipe then installing a stock GB rom then tring the odin methode again. if not then maybe the keis recovery mode I dont know I will let you guys throw out some suggestions first.

After flashing through Odin did you factory reset the phone? I believe it is a must when flashing back to GB via Odin from ics.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
okay update I sucsessfully installed cwm through odin then I was able to superwipe and install good ol juggs 5.0 phone works fine now so the next step is to figure out why those odin packages did not work I guess I will redownload them and try again. Will keep this thread updated for anyone else having problems
No I did not factory reset because I could not get into the phone to do so althought I guess I could have just used the key combo to do it but I didnt even think of that. Anyway I am now back on a gb rom and I am trying again thanks for the info though.
Okay that was the problem. I guess if you want to odin back to a gb stock from ics you should install a gb rom first then run the odin package. Or if you forget then try the key combo for the factory reset. I dont know if that will definitly work but it makes sence. but the first thing i said is what worked for me. So now all is well I am now stock gb.ULVDE 2.3.6 with kernel 2.6.35.11 and that is how I will stay until the ics update comes out. Thanks for trying to help out

[Q] Installing ICS CWM

I just upgraded my E4GT Sprint from GB to ICS using the oneclick installer. I am trying to install the CODENAME rom from CWM but havng issues getting CWM installed. I used the the E4GT auto but FE16 isnt listed so i tried FE15 but it wont load into CWM. So i tried this link "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390393" and flashed from ODIN and it goes into CWM but before it boots it says my phone is a gt-i9100 and has a ! on the bottom. It appears to boot though so i booted back into CWM and tried to flash the ZIP for CODENAME and the gapps file and it jsut gets stuck at the boot screen with the transformer logo. I cant get into CWM after that point and have to ODIN back to ICS. I am on ICS now and its working fine. Does anyone have any instructions on getting CWM installed and the codename rom from a fresh odin ICS install?

You really should read more before hopping around like that without checking. Real risk for a brick here.
-Flash EL26 stock CWM kernel via the PDA option in ODIN/Mobile ODIN
-When phone begins reboot, Hold Power + Volume up until boots into recovery.
-Wipe data/factory, cache and dalvik cache
-Flash ROM
-Flash Gapps
-Reboot
Those are the instructions right from the developer's thread. This is an AOSP rom and it sounds like you're trying to install TW kernels.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662295
This is the kernel repository. It links to each kernel where you can read further and find out if they are safe for flashing things.
Seems like you've done a bunch of stuff. But you really should do a whole bunch of reading first or you will brick your phone.
My suggestion would be to use sfhub's one-click http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705730 to get to a fully stock rooted device. Then use his autoroot package http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728 to add CWM (the lates in the package is FF11+CWM Agat I believe) then you can add Agat's latest kernel with CWM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721065
But I would be very careful when flashing ANY ROM; use the developers prefered method. Some recommend using EL26 CWM. Some a different recovery or procedure. Be especially careful with CM9 and AOKP builds to follow the directions there.
Good luck
So while i was waiting for a response i just went back to the stock GB using the one click install. I then used the autoroot package to install CWM and then restored my nandroid backup before i made in the very beginning. So my phone is back to a perfect state with GB and CWM installed. Can i just flash the ROM from CWM as is then? For some reason i thought it had to be "converted" to ICS and thats what started this whole mess. Things have changed since my old Evo
I just noticed that im running EL29 not 26...does that matter? When i try to flash that CMW EL26 stock root is when it gave me that gt-i9100 on boot and the ! at the bottom. Using the autoroot and choosing the EL29 Rogue is the only way i got it installed.

My friend some good suggestions above your post. Give yourself a day or two and do some reading prior to flashing. This way you may not end up at Sprint making up stories about why your phone wont boot up.
Let me just echo what everybody else has said, you're gotta read more. A lot more! If you're one goal is to get CNA in your phone I would recommend reading all of the very first post on that thread. They give step by step instructions.
If you need CWM there are several options to get it on your phone. Both sfhub and I have put together several one-click and automated options to get it on your phone.
One thing that hasn't been suggested yet but I would strongly encourage you to do is to read the "How Not To Brick Your E4GT" thread. It's sticked in the General section.
Good luck!
Two more things.
1) If you're going to ask for help give it a few minutes before trying something new. It takes people a minute to reply. Sometimes waiting that extra minute or two is all you need to be saved from bricking.
2) Don't be afraid to hit your thanks button for everyone who has offered advice already. I got them once for you but it might not hurt to do it again.

[Q] T-Mobile SGH-T989 won't Shutdown/restart

I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S2 That i have rooted and still running the stock rom vers. 4.0.4. Everything runs fine except the ability to restart or shutdown the phone. For some reason it gets stuck on the pink goodbye screen. Also i have tried to flash different roms only to get a boot loop. The only way i can get the phone to start is to restore a old backup. Sorry for being such a noob.thanks for any help!
you have to un-root and then upgrade to the latest firmware 4.1.2 then re-root/..... the 4.0.4 had some bug when you root it wont shut down and they never fixed it from what i can tell

Thanks man! I really appreciate the help!
no problem man and if kies fails on you might have to take the odin approach all these tmobile firmwares that came out for this phone have all been buggy or glitchy and off course they have done nothing about it so good luck
No...the problem is not from ICS 4.04..Something is corrupted around your system or data partition...That happened to me after I used dark side wipe and restored an old nandroid backup...I had to odin to stock and that fixed it...
In your case, Odin the JB stock UVMC6 , after you reboot, boot into recovery then do factory reset .

recovery stock tar file passed in odin but wont boot up!

I have flashed the boot stock recovery tar file for my Sprint sph-l900 and it says pass in odin. Then the samsung emblem comes up like its going to boot and then goes black. It wont show its charging while plugged in to charger. But if I take the battery out and hold on, home, and up buttons it will go into stock recovery. So I know that it loaded that at least. Because obviously my TWRP recovery is gone. But I don't understand why its not loading I have done this before and no the steps to take but it is not rebooting properly! I don't know if my only option left is to use ADB side load but if that is the case I do not have the faintest idea on how that is accomplished and done correctly. I woke up this morning and my phone was stuck on the boot screen of the parinoid android rom I had installed that has been working for a good while now. I installed an app to help optimize the system yesterday for better performance and it was an app for rooted phones and it had good reviews so I wasn't worried. I made sure that in the options in the app that the system files and other files that I new could not be touched by the app actions I made sure they were white listed so they would not be effected. That is the only thing that I think could have done this to my phone. And when I realized I could not recover to any nandroid backups I had, that's when I decided to just reinstall the boot recovery stock rar file but not before I wiped the correct files to get a clean install (Flash) Any way that is where I'm at and I do not know what to do...... So could any body please help PLEASE!!!!!!
:crying:
Basically your problem is the rom is incompatible with your current boot loader. You'll need to ODIN back to stock rooted MC2 then ODIN a custom recovery then modem. From there flash the rom you want. I'm not sure why you went back to stock recovery with the custom rom but it's not compatible. Or else you need to make sure the md5 is correct for the rom & other files you flashed. I'd just do what I first suggested and make sureyou have a good md5 for ythe rom you want before flashing it. Good luck.
Thanks for the reply!

I don't know about that because it was already mk4 before I ever rooted it and putt the rom on and I have already had to use the same recovery stock rar file two other times to get it back to original stock. And I haven't changed the mk4 since stock not even with the root or the rom Ive installed so it doesn't make sense especially when I have done this twice with the same rar file flashed with odin and always had good result never got stuck from not booting all the way. But so far your the only person all day i have had any advice from and you are a senior member who im sure knows what they are talking about so i guess I will have to find out how to revert from mk4 that Ive never changed to a MC2 and hope that that will do something for me im just baffled that the same thing that Ive done 2 other times wont work again....
Thanks again for the reply any other advice along the way or what ever you feel like adding is more than welcome i really appreciate you now im gonna be on the hunt for this MC2 install and what is the best steps to follow and go on....

No I had TWRP recovery but when i realized there was no getting to flash the rom nandroid BU I went ahead and did a factory wipe and all the files your suppossed to wipe and then I used odin like I have many times before and flashed the same recovery stock rar I have used before to go back to stock and start fresh any way this time odin said pass as usu-wall and then it acted as though it were going to boot and then it lit up the silver samsung emblem for a hot sec and then went black and stayed black after that even when i plugged the charger in the led light would not even show it was charging. But if I take the battery out and back in while its plugged in to charger the screen comes on with the little green battery icon and shows it charging. if i push pwr it show samsung icon then goes dead. Now if I push all the button for recovery it will boot back to stock android recovery. and i can upload one of the backups which was my last rom but it of course act as if it will load and then fails which i know is because i dont have the custom recovery any more but it didnt work either when I did and i don't know man im baffled...
The only suggestion Ive been given so far was from the senior member above and said i need to flash a earlier firmware than mk4 but that is weird to me since I have never had any thing installed on anything other than an mk4 but it make sense that it could work I just have not found the info that makes me feel confident about choices yet...
Thanks for replying any other thought please share!
Well sounds like the odin flash had some kind of issue even though it did not state one. Try going back into download mode and flash a custom recovery (twrp) then flash billards back to stock MC2. This will restore everything back even if you have the knox bootloader. Link is below for easy access. Two things twrp is recommended and do a factory reset before installing. After install reboot (apply su when asked if you want it) the phone will reboot display a messed up screen then reboot once again (normal dont worry). After that you can flash your custom recovery via odin and you should not have any more issues.

Let me know if that works for you.
So I found the write far file for mk4 and it flashed beautifully I tried a flash of the Mc2 in the reply from earleier post but it did not pass in Odin but I really expected that because I was pausitive that there was another mk4 rar that would work. And now I'm back to a fresh stock rom and I have all the flash file I need to get it rooted and custom romed in no time. I really do appreciate the help and suggestions it is nice to know there is help when needed! So thanks again and I got the file from TA TRUE ANDROID vpubmk4 firmware android 4.3 for the sprint sph-l900 I just had to do some hunting in order to find it. And it didn't help that my renters from the other side of the duplex were having their Internet fixed and the Tech accidently disconnected my lines out side so I was with out Internet for a long time and then when it was finally fixed I found this and flashed it no problems. Thanks again. If you don't mind I'm gonna send a friend request to you I don't have any friends or contacts in this forum and it would be nice to have another person to occasionally check in with? Ya know any way take my brother and stay cool......

For the record (since people seem to still be having issues) you CANNOT DOWNGRADE THROUGH ODIN WITH THE NEW BOOTLOADER!!! You can however downgrade through (custom?) RECOVERY using the previously mentioned method.

Cant Mount Data Error

Ive searched a few threads and tried a few things but still cant get this working so now im asking for help lol...
heres an explanation of what i did:
Last night i did a usual wipe, and then did a format of the internal data and flashed a Rom,everything went as usual, internal was cleaned up Rom flashed just fine, but then i realized i flashed a older version of a Rom and went back into recovery and flashed a different rom (i think i formatted internal data again, but it was last and i was tired so at the moment i dont remember),and i thought it flashed fine but then i got stuck at the Splash Screen, and thats when i realized that i was getting the "Cant mount data" error...
now i searched a few thread and one suggestion was made to try Philz Recovery (Im using TWRP) so i tried that but i couldnt even do a wipe without the whole just restarting itself so now im back on TWRP and dont wanna **** anything else up so here i am lol.. im currently downloading the tar from the Odin thread (which is taking foreverrrrrrrr) since that seems to be the other solution i found but before i go Odin'ing stuff i figure id ask for suggestions first.. thanks for any help u guys can give...

Using Odin to go back to stock is what I'd do. Sounds like your partitions have gotten borked somehow. An Odin flash should fix that.
Note...if you have updated to stock 4.4 previously, you will need the 4.4 .tar to flash in Odin. The 4.2 or 4.3 will not flash in Odin if you ever accepted the 4.4 OTA
i never did an OTA update but i was on a 4.4 rom before i did anything... anway currently ive flashed the nb4 . tar thru Odin and that just made the recovery font bigger and wheni flashed "update" it did complete but its still stuck on the S4 splash screen... i dont know wtf else to do this is driving me nuts! lol i seriously need like a step by step by file walkthrough cuz im going crazy without a phone lol...and its 4am now and im too tired to keep trying stuff
quick rundown of what i did last:
i flashed the M919UVUFNB4 .tar in odin and that went thru succesfully, but the phone still doesnt pass the S4 splash screen... dont know what else to do really at this point i have to be missing something...
edit i got it back on stock, now im guessin i gotta re-root the thing again smh
