Magnetic ring for add-on lenses - Nexus 5 Accessories

Apparently the large ring around the rear camera is magnetic and can fit mobile-camera lenses onto it. Pretty neat.

That's pretty cool. I'd love a slim cap for the lens, almost like a screen protector but just for the lens.

The magnet on mine appears to be fairly weak, not sure how well it would hold onto a lens. probably why the picture with the lens on the phone is sitting face down.

Same here. It was struggling to pick up the paper clip, but it barely does.

yep mine was hardly able to hold a large paper clip

Check out the video linked below, the lens stays on just fine.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13771866/Nexus5_camera.mov

there are maybe also magnets in the lenses, set in so, that they attract to the N5 ? dont know just an idea
edit: after i have seen the video I am pretty sure that there are also magnets in the lenses. Very cool, now it makes sense that the lens is that big. The camera hardware in the case is small like in other phones

Would these only improve macro images? I really like to take scenery pictures, so would you say it would help with farther away images?

You would just have to buy the appropriate lens for what you want to do.
I had an Olloclip for my iPhone when I had it, I loved it. It had a wide angle, fisheye and macro lenses.
This is awesome! I will for sure be looking into this...

I have a magnetic macro lens that works beautifully with the N5. Got it from DealXtreme for under $10 way back when.

Right, but for far away shots is the wide-angle lens the only thing that is available? I'm just curious if there is anything out there that will maybe make the shot seem closer. Something similar to optical zoom.

The Photojojo telephoto will give you 2x zoom, I'm sure there is something more powerful out there though...

Anyone has more links to Dealxtreme o whatever lenses? i dont know about this world but it seems to be pretty cool.
Thanks

So watch out for your Bank cards. Don't put them in the same pocket as the magnetic lens.

official img from photojojo site.
I'm sure this phone is N5...
this img appeared only when I accessed from my N5... not showing when accessed from laptop

i don't know how well it will perform combined with the ois. if the sensor and the internal lens moves because of the ois shouldn't also the external lens move? i'm not an expert in photography, but i think that if the sensor moves it probably will be out of the focal point of the external lens leading to crappy photos.

Not on nexus 5 but here is a old thread and pics using different lenses

[Q] Additional converter camera lens?

Folks,
This is my first thread
So i read the similar threads and can't find the exact question with me. I'm wondering specially those who like using this S2 for photography, is there any additional converter lens (macro, tele, wide) just like the iphone had?
Try to search on ebay there's no a single site came up. Since this S2 camera lens is square
Thanks
There are a few things in settings like Macro focus, Panoramic, Action, but I haven't seen any specific apps yet.
Killall,
I mean the additional lens not the application or setting

1. Is the ring on the phone not covering the flash?
2. Is the ring removable again? (and of course reattachable)
Thanks!

Nah the ring don't cover the flash, when you use the lens, the lens will cover the flash a like.
The lens came with 2 ring, you might be able to reapply it if the glue didn't wear off when you remove it.

Just bought a fisheye one Will try it out when it comes then maybe get the macro/wideangle
Heres the metal ring, it doesnt affect the flash if you use it without the lens.
Here the full lens which make it the wide angle one, flash wont work with it.
Here half of the lens which make it the macro one, still no flash, you need a good light source.

Wide angle one;
Macro one:

{Review/Pics/Unboxing} Phone fisheye lense, Works with any phone!

Hey so I got this today, And seeing as it works on pretty much all phones I decided to post here, In the first post I will have pictures of it / boxing, and in the second pictures taken with it,
It comes with 2 metal rings which are sticky on the back, these can attach to most phones camera's, The lens will magnetically attach to the ring, it's a strong hold but dont go shaking it around, Mine fell of onto concrete earlier, not much damage done but I tiny chip, Unnoticeable on the camera however so that's good One of the rings has a small indent on the side, this is for the Flash on an iPhone 4 so that the ring doesn't cover it, If anyone wants pics of it on an iphone 4 just ask, I have one on the iPhone and one on my SGSII, Now pics! (Also available are A macro/wide angle lens whcih will fit on the same ring, But fisheye is more fun , Just search ebay for Phone lens)
Many of these pics are self explanatory so there won't be too much text

And this is it for now, I'd like to mention as well, the image quality is actually very good on all of these but they may not look as good due to a resize from several thousand pixels in width to 500, also they have been re-saved as a jpeg, If there are any you would like full size (For any reason.. lol) PM me or post in this thread, Now due to Milads request I'll take some of the phone with it on.

Photojojo lens attachments

I received my Photojojo lens set this past Friday and I've been snapping away ever since. I love the wide-angle and fisheye lenses. The macro is sweet but it only works REALLY close to an object. I haven't found a chance to use the telephoto lens just yet.
The metal ring that attaches to the camera body fits just fine in my Qubits snap-on case (though I did mount it slightly off center). The fisheye lens is a little bulky and doesn't exactly fit (centered) with the case on, which you can see in the some of the pics. I've ordered a TPU bumper and I'll remount the magnetic ring on the camera body. That should help get better centered images with the fisheye.
Hope this helps anyone considering the Photojojo lenses.

I actually purchased the macro, wide/fisheye, and telephoto versions from Photojojo (link) back when I had my Droid X. The metal rings didn't fit on my Droid X fantastically, but they worked. The rings, however, fit like they were made for the Galaxy Nexus. The ring fits around the camera, without any overhand onto the back plate. (The previous post with images somewhat demonstrates this fact.)
Photojojo has the kit for about $50. For individual lenses, it's probably cheaper to go to a Direct-from-China place. DealExtreme even has some in blue and red versions.

Go to page 1 near the bottom. The adhesive side of the ring stays on pretty well
With the adhesive side touching the phone, what is the other side? I'd be worried about not having a lens attached and it sticking to my pockets and attracting dirt.

Detachable fisheye, wide, and macro lens

Hey guys! I just got the S3 yesterday coming from the vibrant and wanted to show how the lens work on our phones. I previously had them for my vibrant and wanted to try it out on the S3. Was a little concerned because the back cut out for the camera is a little raised instead of it being flat like the vibrant. The reason for this is because you put a metal ring with adhesive on one side to stick on the phone then attach the magnetic lens which will snap on easily. Later on I decided to remove it and would put it on a case instead which will have a flat back. The adhesive is pretty strong and won't leave any residue on your phone.
Here is the link where I bought it from. You can also check out eBay where they sell them for cheaper (barely found out after purchasing from amazon)

Wide and macro
Fisheye
UPDATE
The bench shots are all from the same distance. This is a normal shot without the lens.
Fisheye 8MP
Fisheye 6MP
I usually crop them because I don't like the vignetting. These are the 6MP because it's wider and easier to crop.
Wide 8MP
Wide 6MP (didn't realise the vignetting on the right corners, I didn't align it right. Hopefully when I get my case it will be a lot better)
Normal shot
GS3's macro (this is the closest that I can go to have a focused shot)
Macro lens
Macro fly!
I will attach better fisheye shots that are cropped and better looking. And also I am uploading the videos so they will be up soon.
here is my Instagram if anyone is interested. There are a lot more there so check them out!

hmm I don't think so I still have it on my vibrant and its been about a year already. I've heard some people using super glue to stick it permanently on their phone cases because the rings they would receive wouldn't last long. It really depends I guess what type of adhesive they use and which set of lens you buy from.

yeah, majority of negative comments were iP4 users complaining that it blocks out their flash. Shouldn't be a problem at all for GSIII owners since the Lance and flash is more space out.

I like the macro shots. did you have to crop any of those?
I don't like the fish eye as you have to deal with cropping the vignette effect the lens gives. I don't like editing my pics at all. Good shots nonetheless and I'm still debating on getting this. I'm going to hunt and see if I find something better.

Difference in 13MP camera and "Selfie" Camera

I don't know if this issue has been brought up yet or not, but I have an odd bug. When using the 13MP shooter, the picture looks extremely grainy and the blacks are more like grays. The line of trees around our house don't look black, they look an ashy smoke grey. And the grainy-ness is so bad it almost looks distorted at certain points that my son was walking around.
And yet when taking "selfies" the front camera produces crystal clear, beautiful pictures. It seems like it should be the other way around.
Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this or if I need to return this to TMO and get a replacement?

Any samples pictures to know what exactly you're talking about?
But from what it sounds like, get a replacement, i have no such issues.

Here's a sample picture that shows the blacks as the greys. Can't tell much about the grainy/pixelated part from this picture, but it gives you the idea.

When I broke the camera lens cover on my G2, I installed a replacement. After installing the replacement my pictures were like the one posted here.
Upon closer inspection I noticed a plastic removable film on the lens cover. When I took it off the pictures were great..
Check and make sure you don't have a protective plastic film left on your lens cover.

Good suggestion, but there is no plastic film covering the camera. I'm fairly certain if I take it into TMO they will just exchange it. Might just go for that and see if it helps.
