Hello
I currently have a Wifi Router thats going bad, Linksys WRT300N and am Looking to replace it with either a Asus RT AC66-U or a Netgear R6300, several folks steered me away from the Linksys EA6500.
I have no experience with routers and a friend of ours said I should try to post here and hopefully one of the "Seasoned Ops" who is familiar wih routers can guide me.
My ISP unfortunately is Time Warner or Roadrunner and I am using the Stock Pop3 email app that came with the GN2. I am Out of Ohio, and have AT&T LTE. When I go to You Tube I incur Constant and Horrible buffering. It does not ocur if I use the Network or turn wifi off. I am also using the stock browser and will incur some serious Browser Lag or Lockup (freeze) if Im using wifi.
Edit Add: Does the AT&T Galaxy Note 2 support the new 802.11ac ?

Well, I hate to say it but you won't get a good single answer here because there's simply so many good choices.
I personally use a Netgear WNDR3700 (older N router but fast cpu and rock solid) as well as a Cisco/Linksys 4200.
I'd recommend that you check on the DD-WRT site if you want real solid opinions on routers. They build custom firmware for routers there and you will find real information on practical use for most if not all of the wireless routers currently available and you can probably ask their opinions as well.
Also check big online retailers for very well reviewed routers. Sites like Newegg and even Amazon. If a router has hundreds of reviews and most are positive then you have a pretty good bet it's going to be a good choice.
The post above me is correct you will get tons of responses of wifi routers...I can narrow down something for ya though.... Tey to get a DUAL BAND router one that has 2.4 ghz and 5ghz ...Since are devices will pick up either or of both bands..5ghz in theory is faster then 2.4 ghz.....I use a Belkin N600 dual band router and I dont have any issues whatsoever....Am constantly hooked up to it..And is extremely fast even with the kids using there ipods touches. There on 2.4 while im on 5ghz...
I have two separate logins in I named one 2.4 and the other 5.0 so I can switch between them..seems the 2.4 gets alittle better reception farther away then 5 ghz frequency in my opinion. ..

If you can afford the EA 4500 or EA6500 they should be a little better, but the es 3500 should be sufficient for what you are trying to acheive.
Stay away from anything that has WPS. The Linksys devices won't let you turn it off, at least they didn't 6 months ago. 5Ghz has more bandwidth, but a shorter range at the same dBm as 2.4Ghz. The higher the frequency, the more bandwidth, but the shorter the range. Currently rocking one of these guys. Until I got the Note I only had one device that could do 5Ghz, so I'm still on 2.4.

I'm on Charter...
I have the Linksys AC1750...and love it. It's was pricey (just out) when I bought it..but have now come down in price...I can say since owning it and using it it has worked flawlessly and has the best through put on it of all the routers I have tried and can be used with a NAS and Apple products as well..Why someone is trying to tell you not to look at them is beyond me...
I tried several Net gear routers and even a WNDR 4500 but not the ASUS brands and none of the Net Gear's impressed me at all and all caused all kinds of drop outs and connectivity issues with my system.
Cisco routers have always done a better job for me and all play nice with my Cisco AT&T micro tower...which is important in my 4 story home...with my Note II and 3 family members using all of their Apple gear..The 3g signal sucks to say the least...
While the ASUS top tiered routers do have a little higher throughput...the AC1750 will hold it's own and is NFC ready when the feature is finally fully implemented in our phones..and gives me top speed where ever I am in the house...and carries well outside too. I have strong wi-fi signals where I never had them before outside...which makes it very nice.

+1 on DD-WRT firmware.
I'm using a few different Linksys N routers wired together as repeating access points and their all using DD-WRT firmware, and everything connects with no problems at all. Running speedtest on my phone gives me full cable speed at 20Mbps, and just about no hiccups browsing.
One recommendation is to set a reboot schedule on the routers. Once in a while the router would drop my cable bandwidth. Restarting the router brings it back to full speed.

Everyone will hate me for it but I've been using 2 routers over the past 10 years. Both made by Apple, both just run and run and run. I reset maybe once every couple years.

Thank you for the reply. Several folks have said the EA6500 by Linksys Cisco is getting really bad reviews. I have NO experience with Routers, and Im having horrible problems with th present one I have. Unfortunately the firmware cant be upgraded, and it appears that all the wifi issues Ive had to date across 4 different phones has been router related. I constantly get No Connection Warnings, when you hit the okay tab, it goes back to normal, or Ill have the stock browser lock up, freeze or there are huge lags. If I power Cycle the Router things are fine for a little bit and then the chain of events reoccur.
Im going to re-look at the Linksys EA6500 again. Thanks, any further help you can give or advice will be appreciated. Also do you know if the Note2 supports the 802.11ac?

I am in the market of purchasing my first Nexus device and have been looking at the Nexus 7 (2013) model but have concerns. After doing a lot of research about the various problems with the Nexus 7 the ones in particular that caught my attention are the touch screen issues, random reboots (this one is my biggest concern) and gps issues. How widespread are these issues? What is the likelihood I'll get unlucky and get a "bad" Nexus 7 tablet? I've read in various places people getting 2-4 replacements and still having the same problems. Is this isolated to a minority of people or do most Nexus 7 (2013) tablets have these issues? Is it a rare event to find a 100% functional Nexus 7? Should I wait until after the holiday season when new batches are made and hopefully have been fixed? Should I buy it all?

I currently own a Galaxy sIII on Verizons network and hate the fact Verizon delays android updates so I am looking to jump ship to a pre-paid plan in the future and more than likely going with a Nexus phone but want to experience a Nexus device (Nexus 7) before doing so. My contract is not up until July of 2014. I am at a point where either its Nexus or Apple. I like to be current on updates. Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated.

I can't speak for others, but my Nexus tablet had no major problems. The only problem I experienced was that I could't install the second update, but I was going to root it anyway so I just flashed a stock version and have had no problems since. Even for those who had problems, there have been updates that fixed the GPS, multi-touch etc. I say that there is probably a 80% chance of getting a perfect tablet with no problems. I am pretty sure ( don't really know ) that Google has fixed most of the problems that some people have experienced. I am positive that our tablets will get the 4.4 KitKat update so you will have the latest technology. If you want a bigger tablet, I would get the Nexus 10 that is rumored to come out with the Nexus 5. Personally, I'm saying that this tablet is pretty amazing and that you should get it while you can.
I've bought my Nexus 7 LTE 2 weeks ago and don't have those problems. But I also seem to be relatively lucky when it comes to electronics. My advice would be to either buy one at a later date when more users report success with regards to the issues. Or to buy it from a reputable place where you can easily get it replaced or a refund.
Also, keep in mind that people having issues with electronics are far more likely to make threads and posts about these issues and be vocal about them than people who are content with their device.
My touch screen is still kinda meh. It register as if I hold the screen when I just tap sometimes (like 1/25 time ish?). Also when I scroll like 1mm, it doesn't start to respond until I scroll a little bit more. Kinda annoying when I just want to scroll a very tiny bit. Not too big of a deal but it does get slightly annoying. Other than that, nothing was bad right out of the box. I think it's worth a shot.

Hi OP, I understand your concerns and I would love to share my experiences with you!
I had a Galaxy Nexus with Verizon, and jumped ship because Verizon only had their 3G network at the time and it was painfully slow, it made AT&T look really good.
The Nexus 7 2013 I got, the first one was pretty bad. It would freeze occasionally (also random reboots) and had a cluster of dead pixels and another dead pixel off some random place. After I got that unit swapped, this N7 works almost flawlessly- there is still some of the random phantom taps but not as much. It's enough so I can live with it.
If memory serves me right, the best way to buy it would be through Best Buy. I am a little leery of support through the Google play store and I know with best buy I can be there to get it swapped out on the same day if need be. You will not save on sales tax from the play store so I would opt for better sales support and buy it from Best Buy, or any other retailer carrying the device.
Other than that I think you will be very happy with it. I would avoid AT&T like the plague- I had their service for 3 days (cancelled today) and they charged me an ETF for cancelling- I had to call 4 different people and chat with a rep before I could get it resolved. Your best bet would be through T-Mobile. Their CS support has been a lot better than AT&T. But remember, T-Mobile service only works well in the cities. If you're out on the highway you will be stuck with EDGE or domestic roaming. AT&T has far better speeds on major highways but their CS experience really cheesed me and turned me away from their service. They even scratched my SIM card tray! But I'll step off my soap box for that.
I think these issues are waning, it might just be early production kinks. We've seen it in iPhone 4s when they came out with the incomplete gluing of the screen causing yellowing for example. I can say production wise, the 2 tablets I had were perfectly fine.
Coming from a Note 2, it's refreshing to be with stock android. Touchwiz just eats up RAM like it's nothing.
I'd say go for it. It's nice to have a tablet with cellular access.

I agree with others on the touch screen. It's has so much lag and just not that responsive. I got the LTE version and I'm very disappointed.
I'll have to see how the LG G pad is but of its as bad as N7 I'll pick up the ipad mini2.

Its worth it. I bought my 32gb Nexus 7 at best buy mid August. Its working flawlessly so far. I have no complaints, this is my first tablet I've ever owned and I adore it.

Hi, I got mine yesterday. The 32gb version. Unlocked, flashed custom recovery and rooted in less than 3 minutes. Coming from HTC this is refreshing. I was tired of going MacGyver on HTC devices for the sake of unlocking them.
After 24h of use, no touchscreen issues. Far as I remember I had one reboot but I think it was on purpose due device update (didn't notice the reboot warning maybe). I'm very happy with it, fast, sleek, all functional for now and I hope it stays that way.
A friend of mine also ordered his recently and had 0 issues as well. I think these latest batches are coming out much better.

I disagree completely on this point. My experience with Best Buy customer support has been awful. They will give you a hard time about any issues that are not readily apparent (for example, with the touch screen issue, they would use the device and say "Well, the touch screen is working fine for me" even if you tell them it's an intermittent issue). Google has been fantastic about customer service. I went through four or five Nexus 7 2012's due to the screen lift issue and they never gave me a hard time. Additionally, they offer the full support for a full year. For example, my Nexus 4 (that I bought on launch day) was having a new issue recently and they replaced the device without needing to go through LG support.
Mine was free so it's kind of hard to complain (sister won it, has and ipad and didn't want the nexus too), but I'll give it a shot:
It's a nice light device, looks slick, works well, seems fast (for my use at least), fantastic screen, and battery life seems to be really good.
Great for reading books, great for playing games and it's small enough to slip into any pack.
Live wallpaper is cooler than stink (at least I think so). Graphics are great all around.
The micro USB is a nice bonus over anything apple puts on theirs and the ability to add storage though it is brilliant. I wish I had more than 16 GB (more like 11 after os usage) but I didn't pay anything for it so; Meh....16 gb will do fine. I can always add an app and a usb stick if I want to carry lots of movies, music or documents with me.
People complain about the sound from the speakers sometimes, but what do you want from a "micro thin" 7" tablet? They're better than my iPhone and better than my wife's iPad. I'll get Bluetooth speakers if I want more than they offer. They work fine for most use for me or I use earbuds. It's a tablet, not a stereo...
It works fine for skype and Wifi video calls as is. Sound is fine when I'm talking to my little girl from the hotel. I even find myself turning it down sometimes.
The only problems I've had with it was a slightly "wonky" touchscreen. Very infrequently it would miss a touch or skip on a drag. More prevalent when I wasn't holding it (ie; sitting on the table, etc). Games like Angry Birds were painful to play because of skipping drags. Damned birds flinging everywhere! (lol)
Rooted it and installed sfhub's TS-10 driver and now it's perfect. Little bit of lag on a drag, but nothing serious. Might matter if you're a big tablet "gamer" and need speed in shooter games or similar.
Sometimes I do find myself wishing for a bigger screen, but not very often. It's fine for what it is. A bigger screen would add size and weight and that would ruin the concept of it being light and easily portable anyways. Pick your poison.....
It does feel a little cheap. Or maybe that's not the right word, fragile might be better. But that's likely because it is so light and thin. It probably only feels that way because it is light and thin. That usually means it's probably cheap or low quality to someone of my generation. We like a good, heavy solid feel which says quality to us. It might be very well be quite robust, I just don't want to be the first to find out by dropping it.
It needs a stand too. IMHO, any tablet does. It's light enough that you can hold it fine, but if you watch a movie or read for hours on end it would be nice to put it down. Lots of cases incorporate that option.
So, worth it?
Yeah, I'd say so. It's a nice little tab and it comes in pretty affordable compared to crapple products.
Go try one out is my best advice. Either use a friend's or go try a demo one at the store.

I do have another question pertaining to Nexus devices in general. Do nexus devices "lag" over the course of time? I hate to mention the competition (aka Apple) but I know that over time their operating system doesn't lag very often as compared to Android devices (or at least that's what I've seen from friends etc who own Apple devices). My Galaxy SIII has been laggy to an extent and was wondering if this would be significantly less on a Nexus device. Devices in particular would be the Nexus 7 2013 model, Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 (I know its not out yet but one can speculate).

Depends on how it lacs. The s3 is a dual core so it may lag when you throw a bunch of things at it. I have the note 2 with a 4core exynos and it still runs fine. The nexus 7 doesn't use a top of the line 4 core but it still packs a punch. I actually got the old nexus 7 because it was a bargain but I couldn't deal with it stuttering so bad. It had issues with the memory controller and the poor design of the tegra 3. I think Asus learned from their mistakes with this second release.

I think about buying N7 2013 but I read here that it has many hardware issues, that prevents me from getting it..whats the chance I get faulty device?

Honestly, I've seen plenty of lag with Apple devices as well. My fiancee has an iPhone 4 and my mom has a 4S, and both run noticeably slower since the most recent update. Android systems tend to get laggy due to too much stuff installed/running on them and it can easily be fixed with a factory reset. Apple devices tend to get bogged down just due to system updates.
I'm wondering if my experience with my sIII has simply made me more apprehensive about purchasing another android device in fear of it being "laggy" over the course of time. Technology has come along way since the sIII in terms of speed and from what I know stock android is pretty fast and not bogged down with bloatware that both Samsung and Verizon think we want. Also to be fair when I talk about "laggy" I'm not saying I'm unable to do things it's just noticeable on certain things but overall runs pretty smooth.

The data just isn't there to give you a percentage of defective units. Plenty of people receive units without issues but plenty of people receive a unit with an issue.

Based on that poll 15/18 people receive a unit without a defect. Keep in mind that one of the people in the thread said he exchanged it multiple times due to backlight bleed, which is (unfortunately) normal for an IPS LCD depending on the severity. Some of the people who answered "No issue" may have received a tablet with backlight bleed but compared it to other tablets and realized it's "normal."
Just buy it from somewhere with a good return/exchange policy and go from there.
Should I buy nexus 7 2013? I have had my 2012 nexus 7 since last summer and have not had any problems with it but I have been reading about new one having lots of problems is it true or not and should I still get one? I really want to get it because the only thing my nexus is missing is 1080p and slim port and overall nexus 7 is the best tablet money can buy. Especially I wan to find out about glass cracking because I have read that a lot of people have this problem and what about lg g pad
The majority of N7 2013 owners seem to be extremely happy with IMO today's best small tablet value. Most problems involve touch, GPS and random reboots, and it's rare that I've heard of glass cracks. My second N7 2013 had poor touch sensitivity, which was fixed by the solution in the "multi-touch" thread, and since Android 4.4.2 it hasn't rebooted randomly. It was an exchange, since the original had similarly poor touch sensitivity (before the multi-touch fix was released) and a burned-out black pixel.

I love my N7. not going to find a better value tab. I haven't had a problem with mine. I think the issues are pretty far and few between. that's why stores have exchange periods so that if you get a bad egg you can swap it out.

The two devices to which I can compare the wifi performance are a nexus 7 flo and an Lg G2. It seems that areas in my house where I normally get decent signal strength with the other two devices I am barely connected with the tab pro. Is anyone else getting poor wifi performance with this tablet? Maybe I just need to move my surfboard to the center of my house?

I'm hoping that once some developers, hopefully, jump on this device wifi will be one of the issues resolved. Here's hoping it's not hardware related. It's really my only complaint about the device.

So I downloaded Wifi signal strength from the play store. Sitting in the same spot, the signal dbm and linkspeed are reading roughly the same as my G2. Data download speeds on the G2, though, are reading about twice what the tab is seeing. Can anyone explain this? G2 is reading around - 82 to - 86 dbm and tab around - 79 to - 82 dbm.

I just got the Tab Pro 8.4 yesterday and I too am getting very poor connection. I was going to return my Nexus 7 2013 today but I'm having second thoughts now. I love the screen real estate on the Tab Pro but unless I'm in the same room where the router is at I get horrible connection. Both devices running 4.4 but the Nexus 7 has no connection issues. Tried every possible fix to no avail . Other than that I have absolutely NO complaints about this tablet. From screen resolution to performance, this Tab Pro rocks!!!!!!

Hello. Iv'e had my tab pro 8.4 2 weeks now absolutely no wi- fi issues at all great signal anywhere in house and outside too.
I have 2 netgear 6300 routers one is used for main network and the other is used as a bridge switch and I have a motorola cable modem which I own system combination works great. My netgear 6300 routers are a,b,g,n and ac if you know what that is.The Samsung Tab Pro .4 is also a,b,g,n and AC capable many other brand tablets are not AC capable I hope you know what AC is.
I suggest you buy some better routers and a seperate modem. Then you will probably have much better wi-fi reception. If you have a modem router combination build in one unit throw it away it will never give you the wi-fi reception you expect unless you are right next to it.

I love the screen real estate on the Tab Pro but unless I'm in the same room where the router is at I get horrible connection. Both devices running 4.4 but the Nexus 7 has no connection issues. Tried every possible fix to no avail . Other than that I have absolutely NO complaints about this tablet. From screen resolution to performance, this Tab Pro rocks!!!!!!

I know a lot about WiFi and it has nothing to do with my equipment. I have an airport extreme new version and also a Linksys bridged upstairs through a power line Ethernet kit. All my devices are fine except this one. Not saying the speed is slow just low signal where other devices are full..... The speed is fine just weak signal

Take it back and exchange it, see if a new one has the same problem.

In my extensive history with Samsung devices, some will show more/less bars than others. But they will achieve the same or similar up/down speeds when tested. A while back I read a post (I think it was on the Sprint S4) by an electrical engineer who actually ran some tests on two devices side by side. IIRC, the result was the devices were receiving the same amount of signal, but one of them showed less bars.
So if you're not noticing lower speeds, it's likely that this device has a higher threshold for showing signal strength in bars.
I've discovered something interesting about the WiFI issues. I too had problems with the WiFi on my Tab Pro 8.4. Most of the time when I woke it up the WiFi would not work and I had to turn it off and on again. Over the weekend I purchased a new Airport Extreme to replace my older one and no I do not have this problem anymore. I am not connected via AC instead of A/B/G or N. I just thought it was interesting.
I have a Galaxy S4 and the Tab Pro 8.4 wifi signal in the same house locations is far weaker. I don't get any signal in house locations where my S4 is fine.

Mine is fine until I hold it from the bottom left corner. I lose close to 18 dBm by holding it from there

I have done some tests using 2 different acces points. (on 6 different locations with variable coverage) (each time 5 tests and took the average)
I compared my S3 with the tab pro and the resulst were very close. (3dBm at most)
I haven't really been paying attention to it before, but for as far as I know wifi is fine here.
BTW: Left bottom corner doesn't make any difference for me.
So a little update. I went and replaced mine and the new unit has the exact same issue.
I live in Canada and we only have the white one available here. Don't know if that makes a difference

I was going to go back to the NEXUS 7 because of the wifi issues but man this tablet is amazing!! So I decided to return it for another device and I guess I must have gotten a lemon for the first one(Which for me, Samsung has always been great), because I have no wifi issues at all . This tablet is by far the best one I've owned, from performance to especially screen resolution!!!
I had my Kindle fire hdx 8.9 and my LG Optimus g pro phone along with the tab pro 8.9 at the hospital and the tab pro could not connect due to signal strenth. Both my phone and the Kindle had no trouble what so ever and happily played Netflix and browsed the web. I am also having an issue where the tab pro disconnects from my wifi and reconnects every so often even in the middle of my using it for games or browsing. Intolerable behavior from a premium tablet.

I have a black 8.4, and I can second your -15 dbm when I hold the bottom left corner. I loaded wifi fixer and can watch the difference...One room away from my router and typically run -53 dbm, but when I hold the tab with my palm covering the bottom corner, I am around -68dbm. Hmmm.... other than that, and coming from the 7.7, I love this tab.

I am getting slow WiFi speeds compared to other devices at the same distance from the router. Is anyone else experiencing this?
I get the proper speeds when I get closer to my wifi router. But it is odd becuase my upload speeds are fine but my download speeds are about half what they should be.
Is this a hardware limitation due to the metal back or software? Where can we report this directly to Google?

Fine here have a decent 5ghz Asus router and getting full speed up and download (20mbps up and 42mbps down) testing with speedof.me (much more accurate than speedtest.net/any of the other flash based speed tests.

Any walls between your device and the router? Could you try it in another room with doors closed.
I'm getting 8 up and 30 down. My max speed is 50 through my ISP so on WiFi this tablet performs excellently.
Most of my other devices top out around 15-20.

I ran both my Nexus 6P and the Pixel C on Speedtest and the results were identical. I am on a 5G router if that makes a difference.
Here is where I am at now: My upload speeds are fine. I tried it without the dock and I still get the slow speeds. I think I will try to take it to a public wifi spot and see if I can get good speeds there. My router is not a piece of junk either and all my other devices are fine including the Nexus 6P. Here is my router:

I'm thinking about RMA'ing mine. I did tests around town and it was slow at all locations compared to my other devices.
Edit: I contacted Google Support and they are sending me a replacement but I'm not so sure if that will fix the problem. I just couldn't take the sometimes 2-3 mbps (at best 10mbps) download speed when my N6P was pulling 28mbps sitting right next to it.
I'm hoping developers for the Pixel C will see the concern and look into it. So far I have expressed this in the following ways:
1.) Android Central and XDA forum posts
2.) Settings->3 dots @ top right->help & feedback->Send feedback (this apparently gets sent directly to the developers)
3.) Nexus forum post
4.) Google Support Chat (they issued a replacement)
I should get my replacement by the end of the week but I am not to confident it will fix the issue.
Underlying issue: Bad download speeds at reasonable router distance with good upload speeds. Testing is needed to be done away from the room the router is in and/or on a different floor to replicate what I am seeing.

Please note that if you are in a small home < 2000 sq ft and limited net speeds (< 50 Mbps down) the only way to truly tell will be to compare the signal strength using Wifi Analyzer on the pixel c and another device. I could tell right away since I have a ~ 3000 sq ft home with robust internet ( 200 Mbps down, GBE fiber in the walls and 2X AC1900 routers). Even so, in my bed room which is 2 walls away from either router, my tab s2 reads -63 dbm for the 5 GHz network, my N6P reads around -64 dbm and the pixel C read around -77 dbM, to the point where it would mostly not connect on the 5 Ghz network at all where as the s2 and N6P connect at around 343 Mbps just fine. That made the pixel C useless for me. Will see if the replacement is better.

I am in a larger house as well and I tested all of y devices in the parking lots of business. My other two devices had much better download speeds in all cases. I did test at the house at various distances and once it reaches this specific threshold it really drops off. But why are my upload speeds fine no matter where? Is the wifi output that much better than receiving? Looks like I may not get my replacement until next week now...erg...
To add information: the disparity in dbm strength is much larger on AC (5ghz). The dbm strength is just slightly lower compared to other devices while on wireless N (2.5ghz). I dont mind being on wireless N @ 2.5ghz as I usually get more range with this anyways. But like you said when I get far enougth away (not that far) it drops down to 2-5gbps (sometimes 10gbps) which is unacceptable. It just makes me wonder how it would perform out in the wild when I am not close to the public wifi which I'm sure will happen a lot.
This thread puts me off buying one.
Where is the WiFi receiver on the Pixel C ?
I'd be interested is seeing other people's WiFi signal results.

Well I got my replacement and it is not good news...
I did the same testing as I did before spelled out earlier in this post. Same results. If you are close to the router it is fine but then drastically drops off not too far away from it (25-30 ft through a wall or 2). By drastically I mean 1/4 the speed compared to my other test devices at the same distance. If the service is 30mbps download at a distance of say 30 ft through a wall or two I will get 5mbps where as my other devices are pulling 28-30mbps. It is a drastic drop off. My other test devices are a Nexus 6p and a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition. I tested this at yet another network within a smaller house and it is the same story.
This is my second Pixel C and it is experiencing the exact same phenomenon. There are others experiencing the same exact thing. Doesn't matter if it is wireless N or AC (2.4ghz or 5ghz). The dbm levels while testing paint the same picture as well. The drop off is bad. Here are cross references:

I know this sounds like I am chicken little with the whole sky is falling but I'm sure there are not many of us with Pixel C's out there. I tend to get very excited with product launches and this was was no different. The Pixel C ticks all the boxes off for me in a premium 10 inch Android tablet. That is exactly why I am so upset about this. It is near perfect for me but this might be too big of a thing for me to overlook.
Honestly I really would just like someone on the dev team to acknowledge the issue and say they are working on it. I know that will not likely happen. Not a dig against the team the dev team I figure that is just how it is.
I'm going to continue to look into this and read about any potential fixes or troubleshooting ideas but at this point I'm kind of burnt out. I'm probably going to give it another week before I throw in the towel and return this second one. I've tried to tell my self to just get a wifi extender, an industrial strength router that runs on diesel, or just deal with it but why should I have to? The room I need this to work in is not that far away. But with the Pixel C it might as well be a block down the street. Ok, that is a bit dramatic, but I am still frustrated and really do not want to return another unit. I really want to love this thing.
Recently I've had issues with WiFi dropping constantly with the pixel. I decided to reserve an IP address for it and my issues have since disappeared. Maybe give that a shot and see if it helps?

My travails started when I began to test Wi-Fi performance. The Pixel C has the latest wireless technologies, with dual-band 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.1. But Wi-Fi speeds were the worst I've seen on a high-end tablet. Even close to a Verizon FiOS router, where a Samsung Galaxy Tab S (not even a newer Galaxy Tab S2) consistently got 50-60Mbps down, the Pixel C reported 18-20Mbps. Travel more than 20 feet away from the router, and the Pixel C had just 1-2Mbps down while the Tab S reported 10Mbps or more. The Pixel C also kept dropping its Wi-Fi signal, over and over again, at distances of 25 feet or more from the router. Neither a Tab S, nor an iPad mini 4, nor several phones had any problems in the same location.
I think this is evidence of software bugs rather than hardware flaws, because the Pixel C reported surprisingly high upload speeds when it could stay connected to the router—often, upload speeds of several times what it was reporting in download speeds. That's extremely unusual, and most likely a signal that it's the OS' network stack, and not the network hardware, that's the problem

reserving an IP seems to fix the problem. at least for me. I'll do more tests.
I configured my Pixel C with a static IP address as well as changed my DNS servers on my router to Googles and now web pages are loading much faster. Assigning a static IP seems to be the fix for now.
