Ubuntu Trusty Tahr - Galaxy Nexus - Ubuntu Touch Development and Hacking

Hello all together!
I wanted to ask if it is just me doing something wrong or is Ubuntu 14.04 broken for the last weeks on the Galaxy Nexus?
If I update to Trusty I get some errors about some dependency problem with unity8 and it does not boot after shutting down. Any ideas? What's the problem with the builds? Is ist possible to fix those?
I'd like to test Ubuntu Touch again next to Firefox OS (I'll buy a FFOS device the next weeks or months) and I don't wanna stick with saucy because I'd like to test and (maybe help a bit) with the newest builds.
It would be nice if someone had an idea.

I've been using trusty since its release and am on build r21 which came out today. Using it as a daily driver on my maguro. Haven't had an issue? Did you try phablet-flash ubuntu-system --channel trusty-proposed

Yes, I tried flashing it with fastboot, but I only get a Google logo. Strange...

Wrong section, please don't post questions in the development threads. This is why we have Q&A sections.

I posted it here because I want to develop something with/for Ubuntu Touch.
But if it's wrong move it.

Good luck with this. I will be following even though I dont have any interest in having Ubuntu on my phone unless maybe in a dual boot function.
Well eventually thats what im shooting for.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889433 <-- this is the thread for the hd2
but eventually once a stable build is created i want to have dual boot feature so.
Hoping the best for this with dual boot, thanks in advance for your efforts

This will be fully native right? As opposed to ones that use a vnc server/client?
Yes this will be fully native and evenually dual boot. Once a stable build is ready for release

Erm... "kernel"
why just because you can? i will follow this for knowledge but don't see the point ... isnt ubuntu making a moblie version of the os themselves with a possible hardware phone too? i dont think it really has a place ... never the less i wish you good luck
ubuntu would be best for tablets not phone imo
I'm not putting a desktop version of Ubuntu on the phones. And yes but its based on android GUI and android code. I am doing this because it becomes an option..... something different . And I had an hd2 the idea itself and the actual build was pretty interesting. But think about a mobile true Linux device. All the possabilities

Also I want to make point of this Ubuntu mobile OS will be similar to android with an effing unity interface. Personally I hate the unity interface. By porting Linux Ubuntu this opens the doors for things like idk for ex programming custom gui's. Ha aha if somebody wishes a true mobile hacking unit lol not that I support this fashion of hacking. But again its DIFFERENT. But all in due tine need to get through my exams

If I can propose something, please have the RTL8187 module already built in with USB host active!
Can't wait to see development!!!!
If you need beta testers let me know! I'm more than happy to help with this project.
Awesome idea USB functionality I already incorporated and I will let everyone know on a beta

Also, provide kernel source and headers so if anyone who wants to build new modules/drivers it will be easier!
I would look at Backtrack-ARM too. I am running it in chroot but having native would be awesome! If we can find elite engineers to convert our broadcom wifi and make it monitor/injection working would be like the n900 but with way more power and bigger/better screen for mobile pentesting!

You're right. Ubuntu Touch's based on CM10.1, which isn't even stable. You can imagine that Ubuntu Touch would/will be even worse as far as performance, battery life and that stuff is concerned. But not only that... Don't forget that the WFS is a 2 year-old phone with 3,5 year-old hardware. Even if you managed to port it successfully, it would just be a... "nice-to-have", but not a daily driver.
we can't port or build ubuntu touch because we don't have sufficient NAND for it.
Guys lets not be too hostile towards poor Mahesh. He wanted to create a thread that would help us. No need to start offending his idea. I suggest that some of you apologize.
Really sorry to disappoint him, unless Ubuntu touch has the ability to boot like android on sd card,I think it would be able to work! I am not sure if Ubuntu touch will support that.

I've been playing with it in my spare time; got a build compiled but it doesn't get past the initial Galaxy S4 splash screen. Can't seem to be able to adb into it to pull a logcat. With my limited knowledge, I'm thinking it has something to do with the fact that Ubuntu's CM sources are building JB 4.2.1 and the kernel is 4.2.2. I don't know enough about what changes were made to CM's source to play nicely with Ubuntu Touch, so until I figure that out (or someone else beats me to it) it will still be a little while. Also, if anyone would like to help, preferably more experienced than myself, I'm always open to suggestions!

[Q] Hows the rom development going for the tab 3?

Is there any update on the progress on any roms for the Gtab 3? I know we are over excited for it.
At this point we only have root...... once my pc is fixed I'll be working on cm 10.1 and 10.2......but that could be a bit yet
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
Please work on it, we're patient but do it :'( I got a WiFi only Galaxy Tab 1 and it's absolutely depressing to see how there's not a single worthy custom ROM.... It's capable of much but no.... It was just left to die... Guess no one would like that for our GT3
I synced cm 10.1 last night......now I have to try and port this over.......this is my first port.......we also need a working recovery before roms start popping.
Do you have an 7 inch or an 8?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
I have the wifi only 7 inch... I'm not a dev or even close but I'm SO up to learn or help anyhow
Kewl, that's me, new to building android.......I've built plenty Linux systems from scratch though......... and there are a ton of good help topics out there too...... fingers crossed

Also crossing fingers for all the coders and others who are spending lots of hours into developing great roms! Hope to see a good one for my 10.1

Well, I now have rooted the factory software for the SM-T211 GSM/WIFI.
And I have a new theory on how I'm going to get recovery working........ I just have to figure out how to build it first.........lol
But once I'n done I should have a Odin flashable stock firmware that has CWM or TWRP......... let see how that pans out.......
Anyone who has built a recovery should PM me so we can talk.
Thanks!!
Here if you need me....
I too am just now learning the finer points of android (or, programing in general, for that matter) but I do have a galaxy tab 3 7.0, am a fairly quick learner who's eager to do so and I can follow instructions... So whatever help I could be- I'd be honored. Just let me know. Regardless, many thanks, much love and all due respect.
Cheers

I have a t310 = Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0.
Which I have sucessfully rooted/Busybox/Terminal working.
Will anyone be working on a custom firmware with UMS (USB Mass storage) working.
As I am sick of transfering MicroSD from PC to Tablet 10 times a day.
I mostly transfer txt/html/js/pl and py files to my tablet. So MTP and PTP aren't much use to me.
I just have bought Tab 3 10.1 and can help with testing etc., I just need better rom than the samshieeeet

Ubuntu Touch interest

Hi,
I saw a video of Ubuntu touch on YouTube and to me it looks stable and usable as a daily.
Also, Canonical have set a date for version 1.0 release. October 17th, which isn't long to go, so...
I was curious if there was interest in getting this project going again?
If I had the knowledge to port this myself I would, but I don't, nor do I have a desktop PC that works.

I'm interested in this too.
I've tried making a build, but with no success. I'm not a developer so I don't understand kernel stuff...
I hope someone will make a working build, because Ubuntu touch looks like a really great OS.
There was a thread about this topic but they stated @ this state radio (data, bluetooth, gps) would not be functioning

I am using Ubuntu OS on laptop, dekstop.I am wondering Ubuntu touch.Maybe New Phone OS will be very bugs.
Hello all,
meanwhile some time has passed and Ubuntu TOuch has reached stable on some devices. Would anyone be still interested in trying to port again to HTC One X now? I think chances are not so bad that it would be successful.
