[Q] DK31 with generic cable? oO - Xperia Z1 Accessories

Hi All,
I purchased two items for my XP Z1 last week:
a magnetic charging cable from dx-box:
http://dx-box.com/brand-new-magneti...dapter-for-sony-xperia-z1-xperia-z-ultra.html
and a dock from online361 via amazon.com
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FNJ3BFE/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The cable (EC21) from dx-box came, looked genuine, and charges whether plugged into a wall charger or a computer usb port. Great.
The dock (DK31) came, looked genuine at first glance, plugged into compter usb port, and nothing happened. I opened it up and the cable inside seems generic. I say this because the cable that came from dx-box has a sony logo on the magnetic charging end. The cable in the DK31 that I received from online361 has no such logo. I plugged it into a wall charger, and it does charge. Only half as useful as the cable from dx-box though...
I'm posting here before giving the amazon seller a bad review because:
a) The xperiablog disassembly guide clearly shows the sony logo at the cable's end
http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/09/2...-be-hacked-to-use-the-magnetic-cable-instead/
and
http://www.xperiaguide.com/2013/10/...ging-dock-dk31-dk30-xperia-z1-xperia-z-ultra/
doesn't clearly show the logo. Is it possible that this variation exist amongst genuine sony docks? Or is there a chance that xperiaguide also received a generic cable in their dock, same as me? Post about DK30 disassembly on XDA also show the sony logo on the cable.
b) Eitherway it's very annoying that the cable I got from dx-box charges whether it is a wall usb plug or a computer usb plug, whereas the DK31 from online361 does NOT charge from a computer USB post. Wondering if anyone has had similar experience, ie not dock not charging from usb port?
Thanks in advance XDA

I've got a genuine DK31, just pulled it apart and there's no Sony logo on the cable.
Haven't tried it on the PC USB plug, I only ever charge it using mains power.

I thought the dock was indeed designed to work only with mains power...?

@charliechocolate Has Sony put up EC21 charging cable on their site officially under product list page ? If Not, then it's strange that you got genuine cable....If yes, then you are lucky
Well Dock ec21 cable doesn't charge via usb port.....only via wall charger...and has no logo on it...
Why you want to charge via usb port anyway, it takes too much times almost twice as compared to via wall charger... ( NO offence please )
Here is the Dock photo we got from MobileFun, it seems pretty genuine to me...
It seems Sony has messed up this thing, nothing like that you got fake product...talk to Sony care regarding this confirming this from them or post on Sony Mobile forum, so that any support staff can look at it.

Cradle charger with AC adapter doesn't work

Hi,
Just purchased a cradle for the universal which has a USB and an AC adapter connection.
The USB works fine for charging the Universal.
The AC Adapter connection on the other hand doesn't charge the PDA at all.
I thought I remember reading something concerning a fix for this but can't seem to find the post for it.
Any body got the solution for it or do I have a faulty cradle?
Thanks.
I would change usb cable

Did you ever find a solution to this?, I have the desktop charger jobby. The grey one that looks like a docking station. It has an ac adapter and a usb out on it .. but like you the charger doesn't seem to work.
p.s its the one with the stylus that stands up straight at the back.
Nope.....
Never found a solution for it.
Dam...
Does your original jasjar/xda exec charger work? mine doesn't.. only my 5v dc 550ma motorola charger works ... oh and the usb direct cable works..
Does you pda charge while sat in the cradle with just the usb attached?
Here's what I have working:
FYI, I have the Qtek 9000.
Original Power Charger - working
Aftermarket Car Adapter charger from Proclip - working
Aftermarket Desktop Charger (AC powered) - NOT working
Aftermarket Desktop USB plug - working
Aftermarket USB cables - working (at least the ones I've tried = 3)
Joe,
I remember reading that you should be careful of what you plug in to power up your HTC-Universal because the voltage needs to be regulated.
Also, don't even go buy those Alkaline battery powered travel charger - they don't work. I even tried with a 9V Altoid Tin Battery Charger (with the required 5V USB regulator) and it didn't work.
I just gave up and carry 2 batteries with me. Planning on getting a bigger battery later on.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply,
Just checked on the web and the moto charger is regulated so it should be fine to use, I was thinking that my original charger may be buggered but because my new desktop charger doesn't work either I don't know what it could be. I'll need to try my cradle with just the usb attached tonight and see if it charges... if it does thats ok .. I can live with that.
My Cradle has a built in usb cable for the pc and a separate dc in socket for the wall adapter so unless it switches between the two i'm thinking that maybe the pins for charging are hardwired to the wall adapter and the data to the pc so it will only charge from the wall and not from the pc..
Maybe I shouldn't have bought such a cheap one
Joe,
I believe I might have the same cradle as you do.
I've open up the cradle to see how the connection is soldered and the points for the ground and powered seemed soldered into the USB port correctly.
I do remember reading something concerning the pins for the USB are wired differently (last 2 pins are shorted - on the Universal-wiki I think) for powered USB charge. Maybe that's why the cradle AC charger doesn't work while the USB cable works.
FYI, I've tried putting both the AC and the USB and you'll find that having the AC in is useless....you're just wasting electricity cos the PDA is still being charged by the cable (just turn off you PC and you'll find that the PDA is not charging).
Does your cradle have the annoying blue LED?
I think all aftermarket cradles are created equal = "CRAP"
If somebody out there have a cradle that have AC that works, please post where you bought it so that others will know which one to get.

Sounds like I have the same cradle as you fella , I've tried the usb on its own and it seems to charge ok .. I tested it by putting a movie on and leaving it plugged in, started at 67% its now 77% so its charging through the usb.. dam it .. I could probably send the cradle back since I wanted it mainly for AC charging. Wish there was another one I could get that worked!
Thinking of getting this one instead:
http://www.addonsworld.co.uk/product.php/28408/0/
What dya think?
joe....
According to this guy on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1097137&posted=1#post1097137
his is working just fine.
If you can return it for another one, maybe you'll get one that's working properly.
i'm thinking maybe we have pda's from the same manufacture date.. and the hardware revisions are different and thats why our desktop chargers dont work, surely its not coincidence that both of ours dont work?
And if thats the case getting another of the same won't do much good.. theres just no way to be sure about any of this, think I may just send it back and try a different one entirely
Joe,
Good luck!

[Q] OK so what the hell? (charging issues) Question.

My new Nexus and it's charger have had a falling out:
My charger won't charge my phone, but charges other people's phones. And other people's chargers charge my phone!!?
What's really weird is that my charger charges my phone when it's switched off but I've done a data wipe and it still won't work once the phone is powered on, so my question is:
What the motherf*ck?
Anyone seen this before?
I rooted, clockworked and installed paul obrien's customised ROM with the volume fix and extra menu and search buttons. And my phone was fine. I've got other chargers knocking around, although they're not the same. Should I be worried?

What charger are you using to try and charge your Nexus? Mains or usb? I only got a usb cable in my box and they are pretty much just standard micro usb cables. You should also be able to use any 5V mains to usb converter which you plug the usb cable into to charge your device so as long as you can find some combination that works then I wouldnt worry too much about it.
However if you are concerned then send the phone back for a replacement while you are able to.
Mark.
You'd think the first place you'd go to would be Google or Samsung. Why wouldn't you give them a call first?
I have found that some of the lower power (1 amp or less) chargers are having trouble with the larger phones with bigger batteries. Interestingly, my old SGS2 desktop cradle/charger wouldn't charge the SGN (which fits into the charger - sticks out a bit but the phone sits on the mini-USB fine) with the charger that came with the desktop cradle. I replaced it with the higher powered (10W?) usb charger that came with my ipad2 and, lo & behold, the phone will charge.
Not sure if this helps or not but I've discovered that not all chargers are created equal.
Yea, some of the higher powered phones/tablets won't charge over the lower power chargers... hence why tablets won't charge over a PC-USB connection.
Sounds like the charger is faulty... unless nothing charges the phone.

Thanks for that stellar advice, and if the issue hadn't followed rooting and rom-ing my phone and hence invalidating my warranty, and not occurring prior to the fact, then maybe I would've. And just for the record, have you ever called Google regarding an issue with your phone?

Sorry, if I wasn't clear (and for spamming the forum?) but I got a UK SGN via phones4u on o2 and I received in the box a USB cable and an AC wall charger with a USB socket on it.
I don't think you guys are getting how weird this is:
If I connect my Nexus to a PC with the USB cable that came with it, it doesn't charge.
If I connect the USB to the supplied AC wall adapter and plug it into my phone it doesn't charge.
If I connect anyone else's smartphone phone to my Nexus charger, be it just USB cable or with AC it charges.
And if I connect anyone else's USB cable and/or charger to my phone it charges!?
My phone will charge from the supplied kit only when it is powered off, hence a software issue and not a hardware issue which is why I didn't call Samsung.
I've done a factory reset, I've restored to backups made prior to the issue occurring. I haven't admittedly done the full unroot and stock restore as yet and would rather not. I just wondered if anyone else here had experienced weirdness with the supplied charger?
Many thanks guys, sorry for the sarcasm earlier, it's just that I'm not lazy, I read and read up on things before posting questions. And I've posted very few questions on XDA since I registered here after buying my Milestone. I'm only posting in the general discussion thread so didn't think it'd be a big deal if I bumped this. The reason I did is I only have a limited time before I no longer qualify for a hardware replacement from the supplier if I claim it faulty. (which I kinda don't think it is)

Bumping this thread since I'm having almost the exact same problem and found this thread after searching. How did you solve it?
My situation is like this:
If I connect my Nexus to a PC with the USB cable that came with it, it does charge.
My phone will not charge from the supplied kit when it is powered off.
Feels very wierd, the other two chargers I have tried were a 700mA ZTE Blade charger and a 2A Asus Transformer charger, both are charging my Nexus perfectly fine.

Car Charger - Slow Charging

Hello,
I'm trying to find a car charger that will work right with my One. So far I've tried two different 2-USB port car chargers and both 2.1A chargers and I've gotten an error of "Slow Charging" on my one. I've tried various chargers I had from before when I had an iPhone and they are giving me the same warning. Is there a charger that is known to work well with the One?
Thanks,
Tim
Try using a different USB cable as some of them have different pin configurations. I am using http://www.amazon.com/Anker%C2%AE-Output-Simul-Port-Charger-Built-/dp/B0080AWCTY/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1373316550&sr=8-4&keywords=anker+car+charger this Anker car charger and I have never got any messages. Although every charger does charge the One slowly. If you leave the screen on and use the phone (like ingress or navigation) the phone looses charge while charging.
Hi, i'm using this one for myself
Two USB ports and charges pretty fast
Also works at home
http://www.amazon.com/Sprint-Vehicle-Battery-Charger-Travel/dp/B0050FDFQQ/ref=pd_sim_sbs_cps_1
I just went through this as well and have solved it by buying the HTC vehicle charger. You can check your phone charging in the car by going into "Settings" and then to "Power". When the phone is plugged in it will indicate charging either by USB (slow) or AC which is faster.
I have several car chargers including 2.1 amp models and every single one would only go to USB charging mode. Another quick way to tell if you're in USB charge mode is that the screen will turn on when you plug in the charge cable. In AC charge mode the screen stays blank when you plug in.
I picked up the HTC single port USB charger online at Amazon for around $10 bucks. Plugged it in with my existing USB cable and boom, AC mode. Model of the charger I believe is C200 (pn 25531) and it comes with a coiled charger cord as well. They also have a dual port charger which is the C300 but I haven't tested that one.
I also feel a little more comfortable using the HTC charger as I know it's tested and sanctioned by HTC. Not that I haven't used a lot of really good in-car USB chargers by other manufacturers but in this case, the HTC charger is doing the job and was inexpensive. Cheers!
Thanks for the info, I'll check it out. I like having two USB ports, but it's pretty rare I charge both my Blackberry and One at the same time so I'll probably just get the single port. I see it on Amazon for less than $6, whereas the dual port is $25!

You're using the two port one? I just didn't want to pay so much extra to have a two port charger when I can get the one port for so cheap. Also, I did just discover that while running ARHD GE I don't get the error, so it seems to only be the Sense related error, but either way I ordered the HTC charger from Amazon, thanks!

I use Avantek. This little guy did an excellent job. With its combination of power ports and USB plugs it works perfectly for everything from iPads to radar detector. Charges my phone as fast as my home charger and always gives full charge to my One when I'm using the navigation app. FYI I found it on Amazon.
I buy from Amazon
Only have had my phone for 3 months but I have only used the HTC charger and cable one time. The charger got extremely hot when I charged my phone, since that first time I have used a samsung galaxy tab charger and samsung galaxy tab 6' usb cable. I have a 2.1 amp dual charger from pepboys in my truck. Phone charges quickly and does not overheat or any of the other issues i've heard of on here. I just chalk it up as samsung having good chargers and usb cables.
See my post regarding fast charging for specifics on the electrical damage in a car and the value of having a good charger:

Is a fast USB car charger harmful?
On that note. Monoprice.com offers great chargers at a great price. Guaranteed to charge at stock speeds. Great internal parts and quality control at near eBay pricing. I've bought many many of their products over the years and never has it once failed in me.
Alternatively, and unpractically, buy stock chargers.

The best car charger that I've found is from TechMatte. They have a black one and a white one, and I use the black one. It charges pretty quickly, and was only $8 to purchase, which was not bad at all for a high quality charger.

Broke charger

I stepped on the phone end of my oneplus-one charger and I need a replacement I found a link in this forum but it's dead. The og charger would be great but now I need one for today. What should I be looking at as far as numbers go to be sure I'm getting a compatible charger for my OPO.?
Please describe it more clear, did the AC230V to DC5V usb broke or just the data cabel?
Charger
The wall charger that came with my phone. The end that I plug into the white wall box. So yeah the USB end of the data cable.
You can use any usb cable just search "usb cabel" on amazon and you will find millions.

a zillion oneplus one chargers on ebay--your opo is probably 5v 2 amp, but will charge very well with 1 amp, so you can borrow or use just about anything for a while.
don't know if it was a single case but someone here used a cheap cable and his device melted at the mini usb connector, so I would choose a cable which has the same specification as the original one.

Battery Charging

My Samsung GalaxyS3 will only charge via Laptop usb port, If I plug in the wall charger it dis-charges instead of charging.
I googled the problem and it seems to be unique to the S3, but did not find and reason or solution for the problem.
anyone have any idea why this has happened and what can be done to resolve the problem.
there was one suggestion that the usb plug might have dust and is not making a clean connection but that makes no sense
Have you tried different USB cables and chargers?
I had the same issue when I recently went on holiday. I took with me a non-Samsung wall charger with four USB sockets, and some oddball USB cables to charge all my devices.
My S3 was not charging over night. I discovered that the non-Samsung wall charger and the thin USB cable were not providing enough current to charge my phone.
As an experiment, I installed Ampere from Playstore on another Android phone, (it would not work on my S3), and I used it to test all 11 of my wall chargers and 5 cables and I was surprised to find some wall chargers would supply 780mA, while others only 380mA. Similarly, some USB cables would only pass 440mA where as a thicker one would pass 780mA.
The moral of the story is that the Samsung S3 is quite fussy on which wall chargers and cables it will charge from.
The best suggestion is to get a Samsung wall charger for a tablet, and the thickest USB cable you can find.
thank you
