4.4 kitkat 4 our p6 - Huawei Ascend P6, Mate

Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean in charge of operations. Due to its incredibly slim profile and older generation quad-core processor, it was plagued with over-heating issues. We are not sure if those were resolved by Huawei, but if not, now is a good time for the company to make some optimizations and improvements.
The Huawei Ascend P6 was just officially confirmed to get the Android 4.4 KitKat treatment. The Chinese have taken it to Baidu to announce that the super slim smartphone will be getting the latest major Android release in January. Alongside it will come the new version of the company's proprietary Emotion UI.
Huawei is among the first to announce its KitKat upgrade plans, but is surely not the only one to skip Android 4.3 and move straight to the new KitKat version.
Android 4.4 KitKat was announced on the last day of October. It brings Project Svelte UI optimizations, bigger UI icons, removes the widgets from the app drawer, new Hangouts SMS/MMS/Gtalks unified hub, new Email app, new Phone app with nearby search and more. It even lowers the hardware requirements for the Android OS.
And the Ascend P6 owners will be able to enjoy all of these new features in just two months. http://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_ascend_p6_gets_android_44_kitkat_in_january-news-7195.php

all i hope ... they allow us to put widgets in lockscreen :crying:

[Q] Advise on P6

Hi im an average user and i always have readed and followed instructions on xda forums.
Im looking forward to buying one P6 maybe P7 from huawei im amazed about the price specifications of the phones.
I also looked for honor 3C but i dont see it supported by xda-developer forums so i am trying to get some advices in this forum from some users / developers about their experience with huawei phones.
And also why are those phones not listed / supported other than the p6.
Have a good day and any comment is apprecieated.
[edit] Also good stables roms for P6 for everyday use =)
Both phones are excellent for the price, the build quality is very good.
Both P6 and P7 are very similar but for some reason there is no xda development for p7 so it'd that's important go for the p6
They are both beautiful phones!

I'm a quite happy everyday P6 user.
Huawei has recently released android kitkat for P6. The latest model P7 and P6 run now the same android version (kitkat 4.4.2) with the same user interface (Emotion 2.3 UI).
With previous firmware (jelly bean 4.2.2 + Emotion 1.6 UI, firmware U125 and U132) this phone was as solid as a rock. I've recently upgraded my P6 to the latest firmware (kitkat 4.4.2 + Emotion 2.3 UI) and found some minor glitches mostly IMHO related to Emotion UI: icons displayed twice, fixed by changing user interface theme; icon moved after app update. My experience is that Emotion 2.3 UI seems not yet as stable as previous version (1.6) but I could it's minor problems and the phone is definitely usable for an average use and I bet next update will fix these problems. In any case I'm satisfied and won't roll back to previous firmware.
In brief, if you have a P6:
Stock official roms U125 and U132 are excellent. Stay there if you're looking for absolute stability. I could root them easily and install anything I needed.
Latest stock official rom 510 is also very good. Go there if you're looking for latest system improvements. I couldn't root it at the moment it but I didn't try hard.
By the way P7 has a definitely better hardware. As far as I know P7 has:
a better display (higher resolution and pixel density; and this is awesome since P6 display is also excellent, I really love it);
a better main camera (13 megapixels vs 8);
a mounstrous front camera (8 megapixels vs 5);
twice the internal storage (16GB vs 8);
a better battery (2500 aAh vs 2000);
a faster processor;
maybe more sensors.
It's only a little a little larger (wider, taller, thicker and ... 4 grams heavier).
It's up to you to decide if the hardware improvements of P7 over P6 are worth the bigger price.

I feel also that the p7 is the option to go but i dont see it on the forum section and i wouldnt want some phone that will not be supported by this awesome team of xda developers. Since i dont have time to develop and test deploys for custom modifications
Have you tried cyanogenmod in the p6?
Thanks in advance for reading

P7 is better than P6 for sure. And some sort of developer space will come when there are more P7 users (and some developer like Surdu would request for it ).
I use a p6 and not really in a hurry to buy P7. Im waiting to see how Huawei's upcoming flagships Honor 6 and Ascend D3 turns out to be, and also strongly suspect Huawei will release a Kirin 920 chip version of P7.

No, I've not tried any custom ROM on p6, not yet.
As far as p7 is concerned, since it's certainly going to become one of the most sold huawei models, there's no reason why it shouldn't be supported by this forum once some developer will put his/her hands on it.

EMUI 3.0 is coming for P6 !

Don't know if gizmochina is a reliable source of information.. but i'm sure about another thing.
At the moment, KK roms, compared to JB (B125), aren't good: bad performance, laggy, some bugs.. (for example.. i hate that 3G icon stucked in the status bar when mobile data are switched off)
I don't understand Huawei.. they release a lot of beta, new UI, new os. Is to so hard to make only ONE well optimized update?
Hi and thank you for (hope good) news :highfive:

sadly that isnt what the community wants..
when Huawei started to improve the old firmware, everybody was going crazy because they don"t release the KitKat software.
So they brought out the KitKat software and everyone was going crazy that the software was not optimized.. so Huawei will start to improve this software too..
and i bet most of the people will blame Huawei for not giving the new Android L for the P6 but giving new updates on Kitkat which will improve the system.... but that are only my 2 cents about the community...

I also asked the chinese people in the comments, one of them answered that its true that the p6 will get EMUI 3.0 in November. So nothing lost in translation.
November could be a beta release, and the beta firmware being incompletely packed. So 1 month of beta test, and then another month of waiting for offical release, which means the stable complete version would be released on January.

The first devices with EMUI 3.0 there also the new high-end and mid-range flagship Ascend Ascend Mate 7 and G7 was introduced.
Now there is good news for many other instruments from Huawei. In addition to the Mate 7 and the G7 will be EMUI 3.0 updates for the following smartphones.
Huawei Honor 6
Huawei Ascend P7
Huawei Ascend P6
Huawei Ascend Mate 2
Huawei Honor 3X

I'm a bit confused where Huawei is going with this phone.
We still don't have a fully functional, bug free or optimised EMUI 2.0/2.3 - Android 4.4.x Rom, yet they're moving ahead with EMUI 3.0?
For many people, including myself, EMUI 1.6 + JB 4.2.2 is still the fastest, most stable, and most battery friendly Rom we have.

Could be because they were not happy with Emui2.3 and therefore no longer wanted to improve on it and instead jump straight to 3.0. The Chinese P6 users never had a Emui2.3 released and so they had Emui3.0 in plans back at the time when Emui2.3 was released for international users.

yep.. i feel the same.. in instaled all .. but this versoin looks the fastest and the best for use.. anyway as battery use.. hmm i ahve not try that power saveing. i`m allways full luminosity and so on.. but as baterry is always same.. from let`s say 6AM to 11PM.. normal use +internet.. wireless at home data pack ouside.. but looks the fastest version .. and not getting hot.. i mean same as all old versions with JB. nothing more but more stabile and faster use.. maybe users find a small bugg somewhere.. but if 98% of the phone.. and the smaller bugs don`t effect the method how normaly u use a PHONE.. not a pc.. there is no problem .. but for myself.. everyting it is just great best version till now

It basically says that the G3 will get the update in the 4th quarter of 2014 and that the G2 will get it "later'.
To me this means the G3 will get lollipop in Nov/Dec time frame and the G2 probably more like Jan/Feb time frame.

Yes we are getting 5,0 just like the op title says. Our phone is only about 11 months old, google updates it's devices for at least 22 months. Expect many more updates possibly even android 6.0

Well damn, this is quick, LG became the first phone manufacturer to announce the beginning of a 5.0 Lollipop rollout. The LG G3 just started getting a 5.0 Lollipop rollout in Poland, is this a good sign that the LG G2 could be next in line to get 5.0 Lollipop after the G3 gets fully upgraded to 5.0 Lollipop?

LG FIRST TO ROLL OUT ANDROID 5.0 LOLLIPOP UPGRADE
Flagship G3 to be the First LG Smartphone to Receive
Newest and Smartest Features of Lollipop OS
SEOUL, Nov. 9, 2014 ― LG Electronics (LG) this week will begin rolling out the highly anticipated Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade for G3 smartphones starting in Poland this week, to be followed by other key markets in the near future. LG, the first global smartphone manufacturer to offer the Lollipop upgrade in 2014, will subsequently announce an upgrade schedule for other LG mobile devices.
This latest Android OS delivers a host of improvements including a new design language with added depth, shadows and animations. Notifications are improved with a new layout and color scheme and will be available on the new lock screen. A new security feature to strengthen the connectivity between devices will include enabling users to unlock their smartphone when it is physically near a pre-registered Bluetooth device such as the LG G Watch or G Watch R. Lollipop also introduces Android Runtime (ART) software to improve performance.
“LG is absolutely committed to giving our customers the best mobile experiences available and bringing Android Lollipop to G3 owners as soon as possible is a top priority,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “The new features and improvements in Android 5.0 will bring a whole new user experience to the G3 and make it even better than it already is.”
Additional details related to LG devices will be announced in the near future as the Lollipop upgrade becomes available in local markets.

1) There's absolutely no way to know for sure when the G2 will get it's taste of Lollipop - I'm guesstimating January at some point, hopefully sooner but there's just no way to know for certain till it happens. Speculation gets us nowhere at this point.
2) The G3 ROM that is now available from various sources won't do much for us G2 owners at the moment because it can't just be ported over directly to the G2 like the G3 KitKat ROM could (as I understand it). The lack of a proper source for the G2 kernel for Lollipop is what'll hold us back and until that appears then we won't be seeing any useful G3-based ported of Lollipop for our G2 devices.
3) Everybody knows about this now, it's been all over the forum for nearly a week now (the impending LG release), there's threads all over the place about it, every Android site - even Engadget - has had their front-page devotion to the LG move to beat everybody else to the punch so I'd say as long as the G3 rollout happens without any major problems or showstoppers (like what happened with the N4/N5 rollout and then rollback because of the battery bug), perhaps we might get a Christmas present from LG for our G2 devices.
Worth hoping for...

Latest update adds One UI 2.5 to Galaxy A50s

From what I can tell the One UI 2.5 firmware update for the Galaxy A50s is presently available only in Vietnam, but as always, the rollout should expand to additional countries soon enough.
What I read is that Galaxy A50s owners can enjoy One UI 2.5 and all its new features such as Bitmoji functionality for Always On Display, an improved camera experience, new Samsung Keyboard features, SOS functionalities for Messages, Google’s navigation gestures for third-party apps and more.
It will also include the November security patches.
Cool. This are the forums for A50 though. Rumours are, it'll come in December.
Samsung support service in the US confirmed that it will come out for the A50 in December if everything goes as planned
Also update for Europe should get out A505FNXXS5BTK1 and the log file said it's 2.5
That's nice but I prefer Google's PixelUI, it's more smoother and not power eater like OneUI.
But for someone who wants to keep with stock, it's probably great news.

Probably not tbh
The new Nova 9 global version came with EMUI 12 based on Android 11.
There is no excuse now for Huawei not to release an EMUI 12 / Android 11 upgrade for our global versions of these phones (P30 / Nova 5T / etc).
Let's hope they will.
Next major global Huawei software update, but when?
At HDC 2021, Huawei announced new software technologies including the HarmonyOS 3.0 developer preview, Huawei Mobile Services Core (HMS Core) 6, and a number of new announcements in terms of cloud. There were also new data that has been revealed about ecosystem development that has been raised...
www.huaweicentral.com
But what about the global consumers, when they’ll receive the same treatment or should I say, the next major Huawei software update?
Currently, Huawei has released both – EMUI 12 and HarmonyOS 2 in front of global Huawei consumers at the launch conference. However, only EMUI 12 is being released with new smartphones among the global models.
Meanwhile, the global consumers want to know their own faith and they’re pretty much at the peak of their excitement as well as disappointment at the moment. Their comparison is quite right with the Chinese consumers, where they are being treated with a full banquet of features brought by HarmonyOS 2 software update.
As a global Huawei smartphone owner, I too feel that the software must be upgraded and people cannot run the same software over and over, while other smartphone makers are sending the newest addition to the system.

What amazes me - and to be honest, it is frustrating - is that Huawei has not made clear yet which version of Android OS will be underneath EMUI 12.
Here are some facts, and some thoughts.
- Nova 9 was released a few days ago with Android 11 - based EMUI 12
- GSMarena says:
Huawei isn't saying on what version of Android is EMUI 12 is based but judging by the recently launched nova 9, it's probably safe to assume that it's Android 11.
Click to expand...

- But, let's consider this: Older models such as P20 were supposed to get only 2 major Android updates. P20 was released with Android 8.1, it was updated to Android 9 and then to Android 10. Isn't it strange that they are included in the list of the phones that will get EMUI 12 if EMUI 12 is based on Android 11 ?
- huaweiblog.de reports (translation from German):
We are assuming that only licenses up to Android 10 have been purchased. Furthermore, it could of course also be that the older devices are not updated to Android 11, but an EMUI 12 version based on Android 10 is installed. Unfortunately, HUAWEI cannot leave out this when asked.

You should know that the new EMUI version is unlikely to make any major changes to the underlying Android system. EMUI 12 is supposed to be based on Android 11 - and not, as initially assumed, Android 10. Google services and services are still not on board.

Huawei should give Android 11 to the phones that were supposed to get it when they were released (such as P30 series).
I do find it next to impossible that they will upgrade all the phones of that list to Android 11. So maybe this is the most probable scenario:
EMUI 12 has been developed to run on Android 11, although perhaps we can find an exception in the lower power terminals. Perhaps some of the latter hold the heart of Android 10, as the brand has not specifically indicated which version of Android will be the one that will run in its ad.

Which would be great for us, the P30 owners. I have little faith that Huawei will do that, though. They seem to have lost their way and their software upgrading plan seems like a mess these days.
I also read that the EMUI 12 update will most likely be based on A10. I dont have a problem with Huawei doing this as long as they dont break the existing features. One of the things I am enjoying is the gesture navigation. In my oppinion their implimention is superior to other brands like Xiaomi and Samsung.
