terrible battery life even after replacement - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have had very battery life for some reason (dies after 6 hours of light usage). I replaced the battery with a galaxy s II OEM battery which is also 1850mah. I also am using every battery saving root apps on stock 4.2.2. Any reason why? Maybe water damage since I got this from eBay?

Same issue

Hi Im also having a similar issue. the way i regularly use my galaxy nexus the battery usually last 4 - 6 days. after one recharge i am loosing 5 - 6 percent an hour . I am currently running 4.3.1 on a yakju (previously yakjuux) galaxy nexus . my phone has worked fine since i bought it a year ago and the battery is just under 2 years old (Manufacture date is 2011.12.18) should the battery really be dieing this fast after one recharge?

Do you also get 60-70% battery useage by screen?

Install BetterBatteryStats, or similar, and check if the cpu enter in sleep mode when the screen is off.

Well the software issue might be resolved if your phone is rooted.
try charging yur battery to a full 100%, now go to the file "/data/system/batterystats.bin" and delete it. Unplug your charger and use your phone without restarting of powering it off. Let the battery level reach under 10%. Now charge your phone again (IN ONE GO). Do not unplug until it is again at a 100%.
If yu are not able to complete a full charging cycle, repeat from start.. Don't worry, nothing would get hurt.

[Q] Battery calibration anyone succeded?

Battery calibration anyone succeded?
Hi I have a battery calibration problem on my GT-N5110 Note 8.0 that I bought refurbished through amazon. I know it is the calibration since the battery usually drains pretty fast and when it gets to 1% it stays there for around half to one hour of continuous use. Also sometimes when I'm charging it, it jumps from around 60% to 100% and "charged" shows up right after that happens, when I unplug it and use it, then it goes down normally (fast) 1% at a time, even though that big jump while charging happened.
I have tried several "full cycles" without success and haven't been able to find a real way to calibrate the battery meter, neither here or on google, and since I didn't buy it in my country, local samsung support say they can not help me.
I'm on 4.2.2 leak rooted and the drain has been present since I was on 4.1.2 stock.
If someone can get a hold of how to calibrate, it would be really nice if you could share it! Thank you!

I tried the battery calibration app before, and really didn't do a thing for me...
I also suffer this weird battery behaviour with the device charging, it will take ages up to about 60%, and then instantly its at 100%
I also get this on the way down... when im using it, the battery drains fast, but when I get to 35 -40%, I then suddenly get the low battery 15% warning flash up, and then im all out of juice.
This is the same whether im on 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 custom or stock firmware
I rarely get more than an hour screen on time, and thats with fairly low brightness and power saving mode on
If someone could some how contact Samsung and ask them about the real calibration it would be very helpful for us having this issue... Since some don't live in the US and don't get the correct support :what:

Battery decreases so quickly when wifi is on! hardly get a days use out of it...:crying:
One method described in the battery performance thread which I've found effective:
"I wanna share my trial of battery calibration that really make a significant different at least till now .. I used to make calibration by discharge / charge cycles, but this time i add an official instruction of Apple:
- discharge the battery by ur normal usage till 1% then let the device play an HD movie till it shut down (that may take some time as it for me takes 4 hours!!) then turn it on to make sure the battery read 0% (my previous calibration the battery always shut down at 1% and I never see that 0% as I was discharging it vigorously) after making sure it is 0% it will turn off by itself anyway.
- now leave ur device turned off for extended time (about 5 hours or more is better according to apple "u could let it while u r sleeping"
- after that turn the device on and plug it in as it is on
- left it charges as it likes (for my trial it takes 7 hours and didn't say charged!! but I had to unplug it as I had to leave the work!)
till now my battery is really significantly improved, hoping to continue like that and I will keep u updated
Hope that helps :good:"
Discharging it completely, leaving it dead overnight then giving it a full charge by plugging in as a soon as it powers on has yielded good results for me. However I've also discovered a severe battery drain bug in stock Kitkat which has nothing to do with battery calibration; using wifi on certain routers causes Android OS wakelock which persists in deep sleep. I use my old Galaxy W as a hotspot for my Note 8 and consistently my battery drains overnight in deep sleep with wifi on. At my workplace we have a Linksys E2500 router, I leave the tablet on wifi throughout the day and don't notice the Android OS wakelock. So if you're having inexplicable battery drain test your Note 8 on different routers.

Calibration is a myth... google stated calibration tools do not help with how Android functions with battery management.
I posted my thread about battery and charging cables, and replied an a few topics like this one, yet nobody will search on Samsung DVFS disable or take note of it as being the cause.
Root with saferoot if you have not rooted, install xposed framework if not done so, and Wanam Xposed or Wanam DVFS disable. Since over 10 months now, my battery stats and performance are trouble free.
I was having severe battery drain for a while until I tried something I read about. What you do is carefully open the note up and disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes (they recommend a longer time but I don't see the need). Connect it back up and put the note back together.
It worked for me.
Google it, there's even a video on how to do it.
I was down to 3 hours or so of battery time but bought a replacement battery from a company called New Power 99. Cost $65-ish US and now I can go all day and still have at least 25% when I hit the sack at night. Huge improvement for me! I"m not a heavy user but I take notes at work, do some surfing, then read and surf alot at home at night. So far it's been great! Might think of a replacement battery. Probably cheaper one's out there but I wanted to get what I paid for so shelled out the extra.

Hi! Thanks for the info! That's great to hear, one question, did you change the battery yourself? If so, could you provide a hint on which guide you used, that would be verry helpful:good:
The battery came with a DVD that explained it (with really bad music) but the bottom line is you pry the back off, take the 8 screws off, unplug the old - plug in the new and replace everything. Not really hard but, as I said, nerve-wracking! I was afraid I'd screw it up but it was pretty straight forward.

Yeah, just go to Amazon and search for "new power 99 battery replacement kit". Then pick Note 8 from the list. eBay has them too.

Any time. Hope this works for you. It did for me.
I. Had the same issues, I just took off the back cover and disconnected the cable that connected the battery. I did not need a new battery. The toughest part for me was disconnecting the battery cable... I actually had to take out the 8 screws that held the battery in place, so I could get some leverage. I only had my battery disconnected for only 5 minutes and it solved the problem for me..... Good luck!

[Q] actual battery standby time for G Pro ??

Hello All,
I saw every one talking about a very good battery life for their g pro.
Some people also posted their battery graphs screenshots with 30 or 40 hrs of battery time.
I bought the phone some 10 days ago (E988-Indian version). I get battery backup somewhere around 10 to 12 hrs from full recharge with normal use(no gaming or heavy internet usage, only whats app.)
Is this everyone is getting but they are making hype or is my phone faulty??
an 3140 mah battery and only 12 hrs of battery backup is a big turn down for me !!!!!!!

Check out battery discussion thread in General. I'm running custom ROM Vanir android 4.3.1, I'm getting a full 2 days of battery on moderate usage and 14hours on wifi and 5 hours of screen on time which is btw amazing. I'll be posting my results in battery discussion thread in general.

FYI I was getting about 1 and a half day usage on stock (moderate). The problem on your device may be due to incorrect battery stat reading.
Try this:
1. Discharge the phone completely
2. Recharge to 100% without any break! after reaching 100% leave the charger on for another 15 mins.
3. Use battery calibrator if your phone is rooted, if not don't worry skip this step.
4. Do a soft reset by pulling out the battery with the device "on" and leave the battery out for about 7 to 10 mins.
5. Install the battery and use your phone and post your results later
Hey thanks for ur reply.. i dont want to root my fone.will prefer stock rom. Will just try the method you suggested…if still it doesn't improve then i wll come back again

Optimus G Pro E980 Battery

hi. i just got my new phone E980. its the AT&T model. the batter is so ambiguous man... like i got the phone just yesterday, started checking out the phone and the battery was like 23%.
after LITERALLY like 10 mins the battery went to like 12%... i was like WOOOOT.....
i discharged the phone completely and then took out the battery and discharged any remaining power from phone as its recommended.
then i charged the phone to full and started using again like paystore apps downloading.
as i checked the battery from setting the idle was using like 3rd most battery in the list after screen and android OS.
what is this man??? isnt it supposed to be a phablet? is it ok for my phone to be this worst at battery. this is first ever non-Samsung phone and i m used to good battery life where idle does not take freaking 3rd most of the battery... WTF... im kinda disappointed
also can someone tell me and pls like me here any good roms and how to root this phone and also tell me which roms provide good battery life?
i will be so thankful for these links...
smiler what happened to me :\
now i need to wait for new battery to arrive
EDIT:
small tip
its might help the sudden restarting if changing the processor speed to 1ghz max
I've solve the same Issue by using an Ipad Charger because the 3140Mah battery need a 2 Ampere charger.
First day my F240L drain full battery in 3 hours, the 100% charge was fake by charging with Galaxy S3 charger (I got Phone Used without Charger), the phone show 100% charge but the value was fake.
Try a charger with 2 Ampere Output.
This metod is working with ipad charger and Galaxy Tab 3 charger.
I hope that my Hint work for you.
Now my battery works very well. yesterday i disconnect phone at 8.30 am and at the 23.30 the charge was 47%, with mid-heavy use and wifi turned on all the day.
Plus 1!

Sorry that's all I got but you will see in the first screen shot during the 3 days the phone was powered on and off charge, the screen used 35% of the battery. I have had 2 previous phones, TMO GS2 and ATT Note1 and never had the battery last longer than around 24-26 hours on any ROM under similar circumstances. That is with notifications enabled and data and Wifi active but Bluetooth off.
2nd screenshot shows phone was sleeping (offline) 95% of the time so if my calculation is correct, on screen time would calculate out at 4394 minutes * (100-95.4) % = 202 minutes or around 3.3 hours during the 3 days I was using it (little more than 1 hour a day). Assuming the screen was on whenever the phone was online.
You just need to press Screen to see screen time

[Q] How is the battery in G3?

How is the battery? Should I buy this phone?
I usually get 17 to 18hrs, heavy usage but no game play
Battery life is very good with custom Rom, custom kernel, some disabled services...
I love battery life, I can easily get 2 days with a single charge, wifi or 3G all the time. No games though. What is more strange is that 3G doesnt drain my battery at all.

Most people get about 4-5 hours of SoT on a charge. I find I can only achieve this when I have the backlight set on a low setting. I usually have it somewhere between 0-30% and the phone can last me about 30 hours on a charge. I usually charge when I'm around 15-20% though so I could technically go to about 36 hours but I don't like waiting until I'm fully depleted to recharge. If you're a daily charger, the battery life on this phone will be completely fine for most days.
(The 4-5 hours of SoT is for when the battery gets completely depleted, not what I get around 20% battery left)
If you're planning to play games most of the time, than this is not the phone for you. Games just drain the battery, I don't think it will last for more than 2, maybe 3 hours while gaming. For everything else, battery is very good.

Battery gets winged about on this phone alot.
Myself i find it amazing - if im just using basic stuff on it every couple of hours i could easily get 3 days out of it, on standby it drains about 1% every 7 hours - that was after i used greenify.
Wifi and 3g just sitting on dont seem to affect it at all

So battery is ok?
With sync on, brightness on auto on around 50%, some gaming, mostly low usage you can get 24 hours of the thing.
The battery is not "excellent" but it's good enough.
The battery has always been really excellent for me. Most days, I can go without charge at least until 10:30 at night, and I am a very heavy user. I have gotten over 6.5 hrs on screen time on multiple occasions. That said, my brightness settings are usually quite low, 0-30% range, and the screen still consumes about 57% of my battery usage.
The best was 112 hours, but it was a week with a lot of stuff to do and little attention paid towards the phone...usually I get 3-4 days, so 70-90 hours with medium usage, wi-fi or data used during day and all communication turned of at night. I am very pleased of the battery life of G3
I'm mostly through the day in a 4g environment with 50-70% signal strength (unscientific on what the phone shows). guess that accounts to the battery life, most likely on 3g I would squeeze more out of it, but it's not all "dandy" and "overwhelming".
---------- Post added at 10:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:11 PM ----------
This was today, good, but low screen on time... I should reach the 24 h mark with that usage but if I would stress the thing more...
It depends on the service your getting. If I'm in a good service area it lasts forever. It's comparable to my m8 and m7 and Galaxy s3. Not much more or less.
If you do decide to buy this amazing piece of tech, download deep sleep battery saver. I noticed about a 20 percent increase in standby time.

I myself have the G2 and it's excellent from the specifications, everything amazing. It should even have better battery life than the G3 because of the resolution.
Anyhow I would say never LG again! The software is a mess. It's slow, laggy, bloated and has an awful design. Of course you can use Aosp roms but guess what? LG has closed sourced drivers so using an aosp rom will ruin your camera quality and battery life. It's really sad. Such an amazing phone, but ruined by the software

I ran the G3 port too, but the difference is marginal. And it's very slow, loading caller, contacts or settings shows that LG can make one of the fastest snapdragons as "fast" as the smartphones four years ago lol. I think in the end nexus devices are the best, as they have clean and updated firmware as well as tons of good and usable custom roms.

Problem with new battery

Hello.
Two weeks ago I replaced my battery (2 years old) bacause the phone bagan to shut down on 35%, it was getting very hot, with very short life after recharge and so on.
They replaced it with genuine battery and now it's not so much better. Yes, now it goes to 1% and then it shuts down, but still the battery gets very hot and the battery life is not much better than the old one. I installed AccuBattery and it showed Estimated capacity: 2000mAh so I decided to try the guides in the forum for battery calibration... now the estimated capacity is 1400mAh
It's running on Oreo firmware and a custom rom Android 10.
What can I do? Is the battery defective?
Any help will be appriciated!
Thank you!
Darn I can relate to your situation, as mine says about 1837 MAH estimate in accubattery, I just bought this phone about 2 weeks ago from someone on craiglist, got it pretty cheap. I was also thinking of changing my battery but it looks like pretty difficult job. Like the most difficult there is just about.
Are you familiar with the HTC battery test? I'm curious what your old vs new batteries would have scored. My phone is on the charger right now and then when it gets to 100 I am going to run that test finally. I have been using accubattery and charged and discharged the battery a couple times since I bought it which helped (it was estimated as low as 44% capacity at one point ). Right now mine is 63% capacity.
Some lean towards it being a software issue. Also hard to say the source of the new battery and they do sit on the shelf 2 years probably at least since the phone is from 2016.
I am reading a thread and trying to find out what the best rom is for this phone and it might help the battery too. I am just having a problem with Windows 7 connecting (the driver install error, need to reinstall the drivers, M9 also has problem connecting to Windows PC so I can't unlock the bootloaders yet).
Update: I forgot to mention, mine hovers around 60-65% in accubattery, and says about 3.5 hours screen on time. BUt I have not been using this as my phone so I am gonna try that after the battery test and see what I am averaging. I am a light user, wanted a metal phone because they are stronger. A Motorola G7 Power would be a good phone if someone wants battery life and not too expensive on ebay.

Hi.
I tried HTC test tool but it didn't show anything. Unfortunately, I hadn't run any tests with AccuBaterry with the old battery and I cannot compare. I'm beginning to think that it's the battery sitting on the shelf for years (I don't know how much time they can sit this way without worsening their properties) or the Android version. In fact when the phone was new, it had an excellent battry life and after I updated to Oreo firmware (official rom) the battry life got worse. I will try installing older rom, maybe even go back to stock to see if there is any difference.
While charging I see on lock screen Rapid Charge, then it goes to Charge, then Slow Charge... It's changing... I don't know if it's normal. Does it change this way for you?
Have you installed accubattery? You should, because it will tell you how your battery compares to the rated stock MAH capacity.
I ran the HTC Battery test, it drains the battery a bit for one hour, and if yours is 70% or higher after that, it is considered good. Mine was at 89% so that is not too bad.
Try again to run the HTC battery test, it's on page 2 of the tests. Also, I installed a program called generic battery drainer, because you want to cycle your battery to condition/calibrate it (especially with an older batter). When I ran that the first time my phone crashed at about 30-40 percent, and got hot. But then after that, the battery started acting more normal with each and every charge and recharge. That and using accubattery to tell me each time how much my battery was holding. According to accubattery my battery holds about 63% (about 1800mah). Accubattery says that it will give me about 4 hours of screen on time. It is not horrible nore is it that great.
With accubattery, you need to have the phone turned on while charging to gather the stats. I like it and I Think it really helps give me perspective on my battery.
I am thinking of getting a Moto G7 Power so that when we have an EMP attack I can still play videos games lol, just need to get an EMP proof storage of some kind to keep it in.

Have you done the HTC battery reset? (3-button hold-down for 2 minutes)? DO that first, then charge to 100% and run the test.
To run the HTC Battery test, first charge your battery all the way to 100%, then type " * # * # 3 4 2 4 # * # *". On the 2nd page there's a battery test function.

No I have not had that issue of it showing different charging rates with the same charger. It could be the cable has a short in it.
How long can you watch videos on youtube on Wifi for?
I ran my htc 10 and my HTC M9 head to head, both on youtube via wifi, watching the same at first but also some different and then later the same videos, until the phones drained and shut off.
Screen brightness for this test turned up to 100% btw.
HTC 10= 3 hours and 14 minutes
HTC M9= 3 hours and 38 minutes
Both phones are used i got the 10 on cl, the 9 on ebay. THe HTC 10 my orange led light does not function although the green led does work, I might try and run the led test. The 10 still has 63% capacity on accubattery. The estimated SOT is 4 hrs 4 minutes.
Has anything changed with yours for the estimated capacity? Have you charged and discharged a few times? Also try uninstalling and reinstalling accubattery then charge it some more, alswyas charge it 20 percent or more at a time it says for accurate estimates.
On a side note unrelated to battery I want to get my HTC Phones to work with windows 7 but the driver install never works so far.
Hi cannabiscure.
It's still the same, about 1750 mAh. I've tried the battery reset with the 3 keys before but actually the Accubattery showed less after that. I don't know, maybe it's not related and maybe I didn't made it right. I'll try again and test it but I need to install rom with Sense because it seems 3424 code is not working on pure Android. Reinstalling Accubattery does not change the readings. But I installed an app called Device HW Info and it shows 2700 mAh when the battery is on 100%. This seems far more logical for a new battery. It also shoes something called Kernel profile - 2744/3049 mAh. I don't know what does this mean.
I'm not watching many videos on youtube on the phone. Most of the time I'm browsing.
What is your screen on time (SOT)? How many hours does it say in the stock battery app and also in accubattery?
I got 3.25 hrs watching youtube on wifi with the screen on the highest brightness, so I could probably get at least 4 hours just web browsing and the screen on about 60-70 percent which is what I normally would use.
Are you using wifi or cell data for browsing, and how good is your connection?
Does rapid charging work on your replacement battery? I heard some don't.
