[Q] Toggle pen detection - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Is there an toggle app or an easy way to toggle pen detection?
I have a full sized bamboo stylus that works great and fits my hand better, but in order to use it, I have to leave pen detection on, which will drain the battery when not in use, so I like to leave it off. That means, in order to use my non s-pen stylus, I either have to remove the s-pen to trigger pen detection, or navigate through 3 or 4 menus to turn it on manually each time. It'd be great if there was just a toggle or even an app to do this automatically. And no, running tasker wouldn't work since that'd just automate the screens most likely.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'd also like to know. I thought about setting up something with Tasker. But the S-pen hardware triggers do not seem to be supported.

[Q] S-Pen toggle?

Is there some sort of toggle or shortcut that can activate/deactivate s-pen without detaching the included s-pen?
Since I'm using BT S-Pen now, but I want to keep the included s-pen in place.

Thanks.
Actually, I'm expecting a 'shorter cut'
Guess I had to deal with that..

I hesitate to guess, but maybe because you cannot talk to regular pen and look like a normal person?
(Still wouldn't mind getting one for free)

my Note 8 is a phone... and i ain't gonna hold it against my ears to make/answer calls. So i need a bt handsfree.
Well, this pen is not HANDS-free, of course... but i like it better than having something hooked on my ears everytime.
Besides, the size of BT s-pen makes it much more comfortable to use than the standard s-pen.

How does it work for you?
Does anyone know of a widget toggle that turns the S-pen layer on and off?
This would be good for those of use with the BT or 8in S-pens.
I have the Spen layer off to save power right now but i have to pull the s pen out each time i want to use my full sized digitizer pen.
it'd be much more convenient if i can turn it on and off directly from my lockscreen or homescreen
hi
+1 for a "S-pen" SHORT-cut or toggle.
I bought the bigger spen (with eraser) for my US wifi note... and would love to have it...
I just ordered a s pen with holder too. Looking for something to toggle s pen on/off as well

I just leave mine off all the time. That way I can use either without having the pop up menu.

There is switch (Battery Saving) in s-pen settings, which enables hardware pen switch. Simply uncheck it and you may use freely your BT pen with original pen in tablet.
Another theme, same pen, my question to you - is your pen HF function working correctly? I have problem with tablet's deep sleep mode, HF disconnects in this case and i cannot receive incoming calls... :/

I don't recall I'm having that issue.
The problem I'm having is that sometimes when the pen is out of proximity, it doesn't reconnect automatically. This doesn't happen with my other phone (N4).
Yes it can connects to 2 devices simultaneously.

I know this has been a long time since posted. But here is an app which accomplishes what I think you are asking for. Cheers!

[Q] Stop s-pen detection?

I don't know how to put this nicely in words so forgive me if its hard to follow, but here goes:
When, in the settings in touchwiz, one checks the "disable spen detection when pen is docked" setting, what is the code or what changes in the scrips or system files to disable the detection?
I want to be able to disable detection because I've noticed that the screen drains my battery too fast in CM11 (and any other non touchwiz ROM). I feel that is the digitizer "listening" for the pen.
If I know what files are affected I should be able to use tasker to activate and deactivate the pen detection when I remove or insert the pen.

Need help with which ROM to use. Input please~!

I plan to use my old note 2 as a carPC.
Will likely only be using it for media, GPS, and read my OBD2.
Needs to be compatible with the Tasker app (not sure if an issue or not) and the OTG-Y cable.
Need to be able to disable lock screen entirely, be able to have homescreen rotation, and on screen navigation.
Would appreciate any input!
TIA!
Alright, now I'm running LiquidSmooth 4.4.4
Has built-in option for on-screen navi. Working great.
Installed an app correctly named 'screen rotation' and does exactly what I need.
Enabled developer option so I could enable stay awake while charging.
Discovered I could disable the lock options entirely (sorry, company has had me on iPhone for awhile now).
Still trying to find something to allow double tap screen for sleep on/off. Recommendations please.
Going to test Tasker here in a moment.
Don't have an OTG-Y cable to test with this ROM. Can anyone confirm?

Check out the Xposed module named DoubleTapToSleep. It allows you to turn off the screen by double tapping on the status bar. It works pretty well. The original thread for it is below.

That looks like it would almost work. I still need to awake via tap as well.
All the buttons will be covered.
Only need it for night driving really. Quick and easiest way I can think of.

I haven't seen any apps that turn on the screen by tapping on it for a Samsung device. You could use an app that turns on the screen by tapping on the proximity sensor.

Odd Pen Functions?

Longtime owner, user, tweaker. I have an ongoing beef with some odd pen functions, but I am using a Wacom Feel Stylus designed for this pad. When I am randomly surfing and click on a link to open it, I get an onscreen search bar that refuses to respond to almost anthing I try to do with it. And, in my own world of necessities, the pen is my only type of input. I have limited fine motor control with my fingers and most screens do not interact well with them. Hence, the pen and the reason why I will keep this tab alive for as long as I can.
Does anybody know some hidden pen settings that will turn off this anoyingly random search bar? I guess I need a fresh pair of eyes, too. ;-Deano
btw- I do have the aftermarket(paid) pen command app but see nothing relevant in it for this minor PITA

Any solution for fast unlocking

Hi there
I just switched from a Asus Zenfone 5z which has a dedicated fingerprint sensor. So one touch and you ard on home screen.
Now the fingerprint sensor on Note 10 + is slow, also the fact that one has to first click the side key and then put the finger on the screen and seemingly wait for 2 sec.
It is nowhere near as fast as the zenfone 5z.
Have you guys got any better solution or idea to unlock it fast.
Thank you for your time.

You don't exactly have to turn on phone to use fingerprint reader.
If you know the position of fingerprint reader then putting your finger there would turn on and unlock phone. But that would be if you can get it on right position. If not it would tell you and then you can readjust as it will then show you.
Other option would be to have always on display and would show position of fingerprint reader.
You can also double tap to wake up phone as well. Then go through same process.
Hope some others could add more but these has been what I've found out with my usage.

Enable the gesture "lift to wake"
Enable "always on display" so that you always see the finger print location.
What ever finger you use most for the finger print, scan it for 2 spots out of the 4 available. So I have my left thumb for 1, right pointer for 2, and right Thumb for 3 and 4. My right thumb is now always solidly fast.

1. Please clarify : Do you mean to register the same right thumb twice to increase accuracy of the right thumb, as that is what I mostly use.
2. Currently always on display is set as tap to show.
Does making it always show have any significant reduction in battery.
And that you for your time, you are very helpfull.

Didn't even know that I had to just press the locked screen.
Also thank you for recommending the lift to wake up gesture, has increased the speed a lot.
Still wondering if I can use NFC to keep it unlocked as it is always kept on a phone stand.
Many thanks for your time.

You can use Smart lock Trusted places under settings-lock screen to keep phone unlocked. You just have to turn on phone then just swipe to go into phone without password but it will lock after a certain timeframe if not used.

I do know about Smart Lock but prefer not to use it as keeping the GPS on does feed the location data to other apps as well, not something I prefer to give away.
Thank you for the recommendation though.
You can register your face as well. It works really fast with lift to wake up gesture.
Smart lock can be used without GPS on, it uses a trusted wifi network to keep the phone unlocked or, if you have one a bluetooth speaker...
Don't need GPS at all...
Another vote for smart lock but with a wearable like a wear os watch. I pretty much never have to unlock my phone.
In case helpful to someone else, I enabled the increase touch sensitivity setting under Display settings and the fingerprint seems to work much quicker as I don't have to press down harder.

#1 YES
#2 It's a 4300mah battery, the AOD doesn't even dent it.
Happy to help!
I have AOD set to always on, and it is super easy to unlock.
I pick up the phone, hold my thumb on the sensor and it is unlocked instantly. I don't see how it could get any better than that!

Hi, I did turn it on after reading your post, enabled my location with GPS off and wifi connected but it doesn't work.
Is there anything special I need to do in this regard.

Yes I turned ut on as well as the phone comes with a factory applied screen protector and that is what that setting seems to be for. Should have been on by default.
