Do the official N4 headphones work on the N5? - Nexus 5 Accessories

Do the genuine LG Google Nexus 4 stereo headphones HSS-F400 work on the Nexus 5?
These are still available online in a few places online and I like the fact they have the Nexus branding on them. Can anyone confirm whether their sound quality is any good?
Thanks

Any headphones work, I mean they all work. As for sound quality, not sure. I still have the pair from my Gnex and they still work.

There no reason any headphones wouldn't work across any device or manufacturer.

Thanks for replying. Well you say that any headphones should work on any device but the headphones that came with my old Samsung Galaxy S and before that the pair from my Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 certainly do not work properly on my Galaxy S3 or my Nexus 5. It's like those headphones were based on a different standard - same jack, different output. That's why I asked.

All 3.5mm sound peripherals are standardized but there could be some alternate function that interferes with the phone's operation if it has inline controls. If it has a mic that should be pretty standard as well.

Most 2.5mm and 3.5mm mobile audio now used TRRS where ring 3 is used for ground and sleeve is mic - standards (CTIA/AHJ) that are good for Apple, HTC, Sony & most Android devices. Some might be wired with ring 3 for mic and sleeve is for ground instead. If you come across it, you can get an inexpensive adapter on eBay to reverse/conver it.
The left & right audio channel are the same, however - so for listening purposes, they all should work ... :fingers-crossed:

I have not received any headset with the N5...but I would like to buy one motorola bluetooth headsets for my N5 as I just used of one of my friend and I really like them...so wondering to go for them....

N5 does not come with nor ship with any headset.
Standard & popular bluetooth headset are fine, I've both Motorola & Jabra BT headset setup for use with it, recognized it & did not even ask for a PIN - but I did change the device name to something more unique so that other BT headsets nearby won't connect to it by "accident" although I usually turn it off unless I'm on the move.

[Q] Using iphone headsets with the Glacier

I have a set of Ultimate Ears 500vi, with a mic and remote.
Part of the remote works, but no such luck with the mic.
Any ideas on some adapter I might be able to buy to make the mic work?
More importantly, does anyone know WHY the mic on iphone headsets doesn't work with Android devices?
If I can figure out why it doesn't work, I can make a custom PCB to adapt it...

There's something about how the headset is made that dictates whether it will be able to function on some android phones, the OEM headsets have controls, but others don't always work. Try the OEM headset on iphone, if it doesn't work that means the mic/control implementation is different and can't be recognized by certain boards. I was gonna buy some better headphones like beats or maybe sennheisers, but fear the controls won't work.
I am pretty sure the MIC and GRND leads are reversed in the iPhone headsets. Also, Apple uses a chip in the remote to signal the phone; HTC uses resistors of a known value in series across the MIC and GRND leads.
You can disassemble the stock HTC headset and replace the earbuds with a standard 3.5mm jack for alternative headphones.
Everybody looking for good headsets, I strongly advise to try the Logitech Ultimate Ears Superfi 5vi. They're fully compatible with Android and are studio quality. Downloading PowerAmp is a plus.

i'd take a guess and say its just the brand? /: i had sony in ear headphones with a mic that was supposed to be for the iphone that worked on my mytouch 4g, but the sound quality was pretty choppy, dont know whether it was the product itself or if it was a compatibility issue.
I posted a thread about my Jlab headphones. I lost them, so I have tried various others. Schosches didn't work. Skullcandy's seem to be doing well, but aren't as clear and crisp as my Jlabs. I plan on ordering another pair.
Samsung 3.5 mm Premium Stereo Headset Bulk Packaging - Black
These are awesome. I have bought multiple pairs for about $5 on amazon.com. They have and in line mic with controls, soft clear ear buds with extras in different sizes and they hold up well even with being thrown loose into my purse regularly.
For anyone who's curious, my Dr Dre Beats Solo HD work great with PowerAMP as a music player. Unfortunately, the mic doesn't work...so that's a bummer...
I'm using the Panache which is essentially the same phone. Quote disappointed because the mic was working great with the Nexus One. Also works on my cousins GS2...and of course works on iPhones.

Wired Headset

I brought the AT&T version of the Glide and it didn't come with a wired headset. I've tried a headset for a Galaxy S, but the buttons didn't work. Could anyone with the Rogers headset ( I think it comes with one) share the model number, or if anyone else has a working let me know where I can source one?
Thanks!
I have the headset in my hand that you are mentioning but I do not see any model number anywhere to help you out. All I see is a Samsung logo on each ear piece as well as a Large L or R. On the Wire where it splits from 1 to 2 wires (1 for each ear) there is a small Made in China written on it. No other writing can be seen.
Damn, thanks anyway

Interesting I did not know that the PLAY and Forward/Revers works from a Wired headset. That is good to know.
Thanks.
I bought these Samsung earbuds and use them along with Jays Headset Control from the Play store. Thanks to the app the one answer button can handle all music controls and even initiate voice actions.
Here are some from Samsung:
http://www.shopandroid.com/samsung-ehs60-35mm-stereo-headset/11A29A9345.htm
Didn't tried them, but since they're said to be made for the Captivate Glide, they should work.
Finally got around to grabbing the HTC ones and they're working fine. Audio quality is half decent too.
Desire headset isn't working on calls for me. I hear fine but the other side says the sound is terrible.
Hope this helps
Samsung galaxy one and newer Samsung phones use two different 3.5 mm jack
The newer jack like on gs2&3 are more standards. The remote doesn't work because on gs1 it's wired different.
As of today
Samsung
Htc
Sony (not Sony Ericsson)
Use the same Standards 3.5mm jack
So of buy a htc ear headphone it work on all 3 companies
( i don't know about other companies)
The model no of the headset that comes with captivate glide rogers is GH59-10419E.
Any mention of headset in the glide manual talks about micro USB.
(Drowning in google search results, most of which don't apply [Why do they assume if you want an adapter you want a crappy / cheap earbud headset too?]. So posting here to start from a list of those who have a glide and specific experience!)
Messages here seem to indicate that standard 3 connector, 2.5mm cordless phone headsets work. Can anyone confirm?
(I tried a friend's 3.5mm headset, got audio, but only for media not for anything else, per playing with settings / audio. It also has an additional doohickey / adapter where the headphones plug into a mic adapter, which in turn plugs into the 3.5mm jack instead of the headphones, directly - when using that not even media came through.)
(And even when audio came through, the navigator voice didn't come through, as it did not on a bluetooth headset. I can't hear the navigator across the car - how to get it to play to a headset?)
Source of a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter known to work?
Or 2.5mm to micro usb adapter?
Let alone, pc headset, 2 x 3.5mm, to micro usb adapter?
Thanks for any pointers / good search terms to known good working beasties, drowning in search results.
I need yet another crappy headset like I need ... druther just use one I already know and like and adapt it to the glide.
I'm guessing an adapter would need buttons on it for talk (and / or volume?).
I see on amazon there's a straight micro usb to 3.5mm adapter however I suspect it would be audio only (yes?), and worried that since it's a solid doohickey, not two ends separated by wire, that some end would get easily broken.
Advice, thoughts, experiences?

[Q] ION earphones w/ mic

Ok so I saw this from the Xperia S board
Splinter153 said:
Hi Guys
So after painstakingly reading through every message in this thread to ensure I do not paste a duplicate answer, I can inform you I have found the true problem regarding headphones.
Straight from the words of a Sony technician:
The cause of the incompatibility: Sony Xperia S supply 2V (Volts) purely from an energy consumption perspective. The microphone in the boundled Sony Mobile headset is Electret microphones that only require a 2V feed. For other suppliers (e.g. IPhones headsets) they can use MEMS microphones that require a minimum of 2,7V.
In order for fully compatibility, Sony smartphones need to supply a minimum of 2,7V. This requires a feature/HW change.
A feature/HW change has been submitted to be implemented in coming products.
So moral of the story is, Sony screwed us all...

Does this mean I can't use a mic similar to my X10? I tried using them earlier and I now know they dont work with my ION because Sony went with the CTIA format. So what do you guys use for a mic? I'm wanting to use a mic similar to the one that came with the X10, by that I mean I want to be able to plug in any earphones I want with the mic since earphones eventually break with one side not working. Thanks.
I'll check the ones I have. I have a set I got from my dell streak and the ones from my xperia s.

thanks because I use google hangouts with friends but the ion isn't exactly loud, even with xloud on
May not be exactly what you're looking for but I use Skullcandy Ink'd earbuds with the mic.
http://www.skullcandy.com/shop/headphones/earphones-and-earbuds/inkd
I've used these for probably the last 2 years, great sound quality, full refund too if they stop working, only thing I've had happen to mine were one of the buds stops working. Pretty durable for the price, I've only broken 1 pair from skateboarding/biking. Also most stores will carry them for $15 instead of $25 like listed on the site.
Tried the generic ones I got with my Dell Streak and they worked....gotta find my Xperia S headphones to try.
I think you should try out the Sony LiveSound Hi-Fi Headset, it cost a little bit of money but it sounds awesome! Comes with an in-line mic with built-in remote.
I personally use the Sony MW600 Stereo Bluetooth Headset, no wires extending to your phone in your pocket. just a short earbud wire that wraps around your neck. you can also disconnect the supplied wire and use a 3mm wire to plug into a stereo or your car's aux so you're completely hands free and the sound comes out of car's speakers.
Both of these are available on the Sony mobile online store, probably sold cheaper on amazon.
so the ION does support earphone's with mic and you guys have all tried out the mic ? sry for this question, I got my phone from best buy and so it didn't come with the earphones. Instead I've been using my earphones from my X10 and with the ION using the new standard and with the quote from my first post I was thinking that the ION didn't support the mic in earphone combo
I used the HTC buds that come with some of there WP7 devices. Worked like a charm.

From what I read, the LiveSound headset doesn't fully work on the 2012 Xperia phones. There's another pair called Smart headset that are fully compatible with the ion. They're basically the same set other than that.
I just ordered the MW600 headset, the design reminded me alot of the old Sony MiniDisc Walkman remotes. Seems really slick.
I have the Smart wireless headset pro MW1. They work great and the audio quality is awesome for music and calls.
I just didn't want to buy a pair that the ion wouldn't support, but I'll have to look and see which to get. I wan't the skullcandy ink'd 2 pair but idk if they'll work. time for some more research

iPhone accessories on LG Optimus G

I got an iPhone mic with one button off of eBay, ie this one:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/180654215373?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_3008wt_934
I tought, for 2$ I'll give it a try!
To my surprise, everything works... Mic is working fine, button is working fine, audio sounds as good as any!
Does anyone else would care to test an iPhone accesorie and confirm that it is working on their device as well?
Even if the mic you bought was marketed as being for iPhones, it is a very standard 3.5mm mic jack.
It's not a "standard" 3.5mm jack, it is a TRRS 3.5mm connector.
The pinout of the TRRS on the iPhone is not the same as most of android devices. So, most of the time, the iPhone accessories won't work on most Android devices. Mic won't work, controllers won't work and sound could be distrorted.
That is why I ask people with iPhones compatible accessories to test it out. If it works, it could mean a whole new possibilities for accesories, like those:
http://dx.com/c/iphone-ipad-ipod-299/speakers-microphone-200
I received one of those phone handsets that plug into the headphone as a gift, and it turned out it doesn't work with my Optimus G. Well, at least now I know...
You mean you received an iPhone headset and tried it on the Optimus G?
Nothing at all works? Or just one specific part?
I tried with a pair of OEM Apple headset, the sound and the control was working, but not the mic nor the vol+/-

Well, it's a phone handset, which plugs into any phone. It's not specifically made for the iPhone. The speaker works, but the mic doesn't.
I just wanted to confirm that my Sony MDR-EX38IP will only work to listen to music, no audio controls and no mic functionality.
Thanks
I bought a hands-free on the iPhone, and arm band sport gym running work holder case for iphone 5
Probably it won't work on other devices.... It's strange that goes on your G!
But if you need something similar i think that if you search you can find it... It must be a normal 3.5jack
Most newer Android phones will be fine with iPhone headsets, at least with partial functionality. The OMTP (Sony and LG, some Samsung) standard was phased out beginning last year, and most new phones will use the CTIA plug standard, which is what the iPhone uses.

[Review] HTC Bluetooth 3.0 Stereo Headphones (BH- S600) Uncompressed Audio

Hello guys
The purpose of this post is to share with you guys my recent purchase The HTC Bluettoh 3.0 Stereo Headphones. These are the official ones from HTC made for our phones. Those with Sense 4.0 and above and phones with Bluetooth 3.0 and above. What makes these different from other bluetooth heaphones is the fact that they use Bluetooth 3.0 which is a huge advancement meant from Bluetooth v2.1 Enhanced Data Rate. This newer version allows more data to be transferred at a time (wider bandwidth) and HTC has taken advantage of this by providing uncompressed audio with these bluetooth heaphones. The sound quality is so much better. v3.0 is more battery efficient as well than the previous generation. The bluetooth headphone clip allows you to use your own headphones as well!
I have made video review below
Pictures of the device and part of the manual are attached to this post for your viewing pleasure
Official Product Link: http://www.htc.com/au/accessories/htc-bluetooth-stereo-headphones/#overview
actually, it's not uncompressed audio. It uses Apt-x codec from CSR which is a cd-quality audio compression technology. There aren't many phones that actually have that codec. HTC One series and galaxy s3 are the ones that pops into my mind. Others (the ones that don't have apt-x) will sound like Bluetooth 2.1 edr no mather which version of Bluetooth they use.
Here is a list of headphones with aptx codec support, you'll see HTC is listed there too.
http://www.csr.com/technology-solut...wered-by-csr-aptx/bluetooth-stereo-headphones
Are you suggesting that these sound crisp and clean? I only ask because I stream music via bluetooth quite a bit whether it be to my Yamaha receiver or my head unit in my truck and because of the low bitpool setting in Sense I get a lot of crackling on the high end. AOSP this is not an issue. Only in Sense.
So my question is...How if HTC hasn't fixed the bluetooth bitpool issue in the software can any bluetooth device stream the high quality?
i ordered the ikross bluetooth stereo receiver, they are quite good and much cheaper they go for about 26 dollars

You can actually use any headsets for jogging and especially walking. Just depends how much wire and bulk you are willing to put up with. Personally, I have the LG Tone+ headset. They sound great and dont make you feel like you are tied to something. They are actually a very practical setup. Any way. Those are my thoughts.

it's uncompressed but who cares? it seems those use apt-x lossless codec.

I picked up one of these on the back of this review, and I have to say, I'm really impressed. I got i it mainly for running with, but I've found myself just using it for everything. In the car, at work, - the battery life is really good, and the drain on the phone really in negligible.
My one complaint... I nearly lost my phone in the gym, cause I left it at the rower I was using, but the range is so good ( around 20m without any loss of audio ) I ended up having to backtrack my whole circuit to find it
I cannot believe they did not include a mic in the clip. It really limits your use of alternative headphones/earphones.

It does have a mic in the clip, can't post a link so check the HTC website for details.
I have this as well. I have to say that for a BT tranceiver, it impresses me so much. My only complain is that I can't really monitor the battery capacity in this thing. But at least it will notify me with that robotic female voice that my "battery is low". However, battery life is good.
I use it when I'm travelling because I don't really like brandishing my One in public transport (it's very unsafe to show off your phone here in Indonesia) as it allows me to control my music wirelessly.
I pair this to some other devices as well, like my laptop so that I can use my hifi system to amplify my laptop using aux cable. I don't use the aux cable directly because it's too far to where I usually sit and enjoy my movies.
All in all, I am satisfied with this product.

Because of that sentence, I have bought this device. But NO, it doesn't have the mic in the clip.
Now I am sad and angry I didn't go for a Sony or Samsung.
I have a MW600 at home, which worked perfectly, but last month the clip lost the suspension thingy so I cannot clip it to my shirt anymore... And that's why I decided to buy this one.
But bummer, you cannot use any headphones. You must pick the ones that have the microphone on. And hence, the device is not useful for other stuff, like in-car use and such...
Otherwise, sound is good, can connect to my mac and phone at the same time and can charge it while using it. Really a shame HTC did not put a mic on the clip...
I had these other bluetooth headphones in mind:
1) Sony SBH20
2) Samsung HS3000
and of course
3) Sony MW600
Good info sudkcoce. I am also thinking of buying this but do not like the earbuds. I need something that will stay on my head. Earbuds to me have always been a fad/gimmick. I have waterproof earphones by Monster designed for iOS and they work perfectly with the bluetooth clip. Any Headphones/ earphones will work with this as long as they have a 3.5mm jack. Of those headphones have a play pause button on the centre it will work as well. The other buttons may not
I've had these things since February(a nice gift from HTC) and I love it. I don't use it as headphones though when I'm home. I have an aux cable going into my surround sound and I have hooked the Bluetooth dongle onto that Aux cable. Streaming the music crisply, clearly, and perfectly through my system.
