Hello everyone,
I currently have an issue with my arc S (LT18i) where 3G doesn't work anymore on any Sony stock ROM. I am aware that my carrier supports the needed basebands, and I am in an area where my service has 3G with full signals. I have tried the following:
I have switched ROMs from ICS and Gingerbread & tried reflashing, but still 3G doesn't work. I have no problems with 2G however.
Changing kernels didn't help too. I normally use LuPuS, but the problem still remains.
I first thought it was a hardware issue, but then I switched to CyanogenMOD and MIUI, 3G works on both ROMs. So it's not a hardware issue.
I still do not know what the problem is. Can anyone help me out? This problem occured just after I flashed LuPuS kernel, and then returning back to stock kernel. Ever since then 3G doesn't work.
Hope I get a solution. Help is appreciated. Thanks!
Did you flash the correct baseband for the ROM? Each Android version works with a different baseband.

Never had problems with using various basebands on various ROMs. 64 worked fine on ICS, 77 worked fine on GB. No issues for me.

I used what comes in the .FTF itself. I even tried flashing with Sony's official flash tool for unlocked bootloaders. I'll try manually flashing basebands and switch them out to see whether that works.

Had you checked in what mode are you?
2G, 2G/3G Prefered, 3G only
Had you configured the APN Settings? In my phone it doesnt donwload anything from 3G/2G until i register the network.
Or perhaps you didnt do all the wipes and some remanent file is causing the problem.

Residual files seems to be the problem. I have the correct APNs and correct mode. I should try clearing with fastboot.

Flash a new kernel and do clean install, wipe everything and flash a ROM.

Wiping everything off and flashing a new kernel and again wiping and going back to stock ROM worked.

Hello I bought my phone off of ebay it was already flashed with tasks rom when I got it and the only problem I have which is very annoying is that it constantly switches from LTE/GSM/CDMA to CDMA only when I goto settings>more>mobile networks...Whenever there is no signal it is set to CDMA only I'm not sure what the problem is but its very frustrurating when I cant make calls when I need to...Is this a known problem? Will I have to revert back to stock?

who is your carrier and what APNs are installed? also, you're in a GSM forum

My carrier is Fido (GSM) its the same as at&t in the US or Rogers in Canada
By APNs do you mean Access Point Names? If so there are three options
Fido Default
fido-core appl1.apn which is the one I use since I use LTE
Fido Internet
internet.fido.ca
Fido tethering

Fido's website says to use LTEMOBILE.APN if you have an LTE device

Just checked although its named after the core one it has the LTE settings I've been using LTE fine
Even though the settings were the same I still made a new profile for LTE and its having the same problems Sometimes toggling airplane mode or restarting the phone seems to fix it
Again the problem is that the phone constantly loses signal and the mobile network setting says "CDMA only" if I change it back to LTE/GSM/CDMA sometimes the signal will come back

the fact that your gsm device has built in options for cdma and consistently tries switching to cdma (which is probably why you lose service) tells me something needs to change. on your i747m, what is your baseband version? also, what is your android/task650 release?

I can't believe I forgot to mention what kind of phone it was its not the Canadian model... I bought the phone off of ebay it is an at&t SGH-I747 the phone already had the custom rom on it when I got it.
The baseband version is i747UCDLK3

oh wow, so you literally just bought that on ebay. unfortunately, when buying a device thats already rooted and running a custom ROM, you dont know the procedures used when that ROM was installed. there's a wrong and right way to do it so as to have a smooth running phone with little or no complications. I would make a backup in recovery and then try a different modem or reflash the ROM and google apps (gapps) again. is the ROM and gapps files (.zips) still on the phone?

I updated the rom the other day and had to reinstall gapps so yes I'll try flashing other radios.
I went to *#*#4636#*#* and set the radio to GSM/LTE and the phone still drops the signal and doesnt change to WDCDMA...
Edit: Update it will switch to WCDMA

when you updated, did you perform a full wipe? that might fix this whole issue

Yes I did the full wipe, cache wipe, and dalvik cache wipe.. It still has the same problem after I reflashed I'm going to try and flash different radios now.
If that doesn't work whats the next step reverting back to stock and seeing if that works?

Did you format /system?
try unrooting and going back to stock then rerooting.
That worked for me

I'll try that but weird thing...I remember reading somewhere too many open apps may cause signal problems and I just killed all open apps when the signal dropped and about 15 secs later signal was back dont know if this was the problem for sure I'll try again if it happens see if maybe I can narrow it down to a particular app or process

i am back again with a new problem!
All the previous problems that was mentioned in this forum is GONE. i was a happy owner. Until i got this problem.
so i wanted to try new Modem, just so i can increase my Signal, and right now, my data plan is keep going on and off, and most the time i can't get it connected it.
i did the wipe date /factory reset from the ROM manager, and wipe cache and dalvik. and yet the problem is not solved.
right now, am running cm-10.1-20130304-EXPERIMENTAL
and the Modem am currently running which sometimes works ( I747MVLDLK4 ) am with Rogers, Canada, Edmonton, AB
If anyone helped me out with this, your next coffee is on me! for real!

When I have Wifi or Signal/Data issues, I just Odin back to stock and then re-root & flash ROM again. Works every time.

Thanks man, i really hope it works! , am gonna try this now.. When i restore to the stock, dose my based band goes to default or shall i manually do that?

Did you use ODIN to flash the stock ROM and factory reset in stock recovery ?

Yes! i think i did a mistake. While i restored to the stock rom, The baseband that i was using it was I747MVLDLK4 and not the STOCK modem. So maybe that is why its not getting connected? am trying to apply the stock modem into the the stock rom, but its giving me Fail error.
am just scratching my head right now to be quite honest and this close to throw my cellphone outside of the balcony.

What type of fail error?
How are you trying to flash it?
i managed to make my modem into the stock version. However am just getting "E" in my data connection. Reminder am still in STOCK ROM and stock modem now. is that a good sign that i slighty getting everything back??
should i just install the CM 10.1 now and see the results or what you guys recommend?

Try flashing Task's AOKP and see if you have the same issue. Additionally, try deleting the current APNs (access point names) and manually enter the APN settings for your carrier. Could also just be a faulty SIM card as you mentioned.

You have your imei still ? I don't see that mentioned.... this sounds like that issue. flashing between TW and Custom it can happen
Thanks guys for the feedback, but i have managed to fix the problem, this post was before i know that i lost my IMEI...
All good now, everything has be resolved.

I can not get any radio to work to make or receive calls! I flashed everyone out there and still can not make or receive calls. What method can I use do to get it to work? I flashed radio from TWRP with Factory reset, delvik and cache and then flash with no wipe and I just cant get that or any radio to work. I just get AT&T when I do a scan, which I use T-Mobile. When I choose search in settings in mobile networks, still nothing. When I try to use phone, it always says no network avail. and yes I have data box checked off. It just seams lately any Rom I flash after the newest stock, (JB) I have radio issues, can not make or receive calls. I even erased, wiped everything and started from scratch with stock. Phones works fine, but when I try any ROM, no calls, no matter what radio I flash. I must be doing something wrong. I must say, that I flashed many a Roms before and all worked well until now! I even download same radios in case I got a bad download. I can use kernels, such as Tiberius with Stock JB. I Flash a Rom and no radio, no matter what Rom. My version in stock is UVMC6, SGH T-989 phone. (T-Mobile). I know all phones are different and thought maybe something in stock files I might be able to use, but don't know which files. I am not a dev by any means and thought if I could use the stock I have now can work with the any Rom here. I never dirty flash anything, all Roms work that I flash from sd card, just not able to use phone in any Rom at all! I thought maybe I can manually put in APN, but I have no idea were to get address to enter. I am from Delaware if that matters as far as APN. Verify your APN settings are correct. If there isn't a t mobile APN set up than try creating one. Also go to Settings > About Phone > Status and make sure your phone has a valid IMEI number (anything other than 0)

Thanks, yeah after all reading and troubleshooting it seems APN is where I have to create and/or edit! I found APN settings on Google and wrote down the settings that is on stock Rom where phone is working and will try it. Thanks for heading me in the right direction.

I'm in Canada and had same problem with SlimBean ROM (which is my favourite ROM). I flashed phone back to a stock ROM, flashed DARKSIDE.SUPER.WIPE, the ROM, and Gapps with TWRP recovery (in that order) and was back in business.

I've flashed Xperia Z Jelly Bean v4 (this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2267230&highlight=data) on my Arc S and I can say its so fast and so beautiful.
The only problem I have is that I cant connect to mobile data 3G however my APN settings are correct
I flashed BB-77 too as recommended by one of the users in the thread and it didnt work as well
So what should I do now ?

Were you able to use the 3G connection before this ROM?
My current advice - Ask from your operator, if the 3G connection is enabled for you.

Are you sure you have "Data enabled"? Try to reboot your phone.

Yes I was able to use 3G before this ROM and i contacted my operator and 3G is enabled already
Does that have anything to do with the baseband ??

Well, if in the thread you downloaded it from was nothing more to flash, then nop.
I said it because in GB Roms you must flash an additional libraries, but i dont had used CM10 based ROMs so i can just can guess, check the baseband threads.
By the way, sometimes my phone "losses" the data connection for a while (the icon dessapear even if the data connection is active). It just happen like 2 times since a got it, but after some time it comes back.
Flash latest stock 4.0.4 and then install Xperia Z Jelly Bean v4.

Well, in the thread I flashed something called Xperia Arc S 4.1.B.1.13 Vodafone DE firmware and they said it's for increasing system and data memory for Arc user and latest BB. You think this is the problem ?!
the phone is not set to gsm only?
look at settings - more - mobile network - uncheck 2g
also look at the accesspoin and choose the right one
Guys please this is really urgent and I did everything I could
Last thing i did was flashing every stock thing on the phone, stock GB, stock kernel, stock baseband and nothing changed and data mobile is still not working
You can try to input the apn by yourself

hey everyone, after i updated to B-125 international the device wont connect to my network, always showing no service, although when i search for networks manually the phone sees all the available networks but wont connect to mine, i tried my sim on different phone and it works, aslo i tried different sim and it didnt work, any help with that?

Factory reset,wipe all.
Restart your phone and check your providers config.
wipe phone. flash software that worked, dont wipe then and flash b125. worked for me.

tried that with no luck, i notice that the baseband version remains the same while chnaging firmwares, even when i tried cm,
