I'm looking to gamify my Note as much as possible. Thanks to Coldfustion's great video series on the Note, I've got an Rii Bluetooth mini-keyboard on order.
I'm also considering getting the iControlPad, hoping that it can attach to the Note securely. I want to get my Note in the same league as the Play/Vita and other portable gaming devices.
What hardware accessories are you guys using?
I have two Phonejoy's, a ZeeMote, and use PS3 remotes with mine. Not sure how the iControlPad will go with the Note's size - I see Gametel has a similar design out now too that looks like it'll fit a wider range of handset sizes. I have a few YT vids showing these sorts of things (mostly with an SGSII, but same stuff all works with the Note too).
I have the iControlPad, but its gathering dust. Let me know of some games you want to test and I'll see if I can get it working with it, as long as I don't have to buy it.
I had the Pandora console and I can tell you its better playing classic games on it than any Android devices.
The Note is the first phone I felt its actually bearable to play using onscreen controls.
I just got my Phonejoy analogue controller today, and it's great. The only thing I don't really like about it is it isn't true to term analogue, but the feel is enough for it to be overlooked. All in all a fantastic thing.
Might I point out that while not being as small and have a bracket of sorts as the iControlPad does, it's much cheaper for a genuine controller feel.
I did see the Gametel device online a couple days ago, which in turn led me to the icontrolpad... these are more inline with what I'm looking for at first: a controller that attaches and holds the Note.
Like I said, I'm just getting into the gaming side, and I haven't yet rooted my Note. Here's some games I have that I'd like to use with an icontrolpad or gametel clamp-on type controller:
Shadowgun
Samurai II
GTA III
Asphalt 6HD
Order and Chaos
Pacman
After I root and install the emulators, I'll be checking out Zelda and several Atari games. Maybe FPSe and Final Fantasy games.
I'm also all ears for any other HD MMO's (Chaos Rings supposedly is coming to Android soon)...
P.S. ... Looking to sell your icontrolpad? I'm interested in buying, provided it holds the Note and works with most of the games above?
I picked up some PS3 controllers and they are awesome. The prices fluctuate so much on Amazon but I managed to get the kit with the controller, HDMI and USB cable for $33 but I see it is back at $60.
I wish there was a clamp to attach the note to the ps3 controller for when I am not attached to the TV. Kind of like these old controllers with lcds in them.

I can tell you that unless the game itself let you set hard keys or has inate support of hard keys then iControlPad will be useless with it. Since the iControlPad emulates the keyboard and most games relies on touch besides emulators. And not all emulators support iControlPad either, however there seems to be big support of WiiMote and PS3.
I will try some of those games when I have time.
I do notice I can connect a mouse by wire to Note and gets a mouse cursor.

Turns out that most of the modern games I have don't have the option to use external controls. The emulator games, however, do, at least the Atari games I've tried so far. I will be trying out the N64 and other emulators, so those may be compatible.
My main question remains, though. Can the icontrolpad accommodate the Note?
The next question, then, is for everyone else who uses gaming accessories with the Note: are there plenty of decent games which justify using the an external controller? I know NZtech demo'd Super Mario, and Confustion demo'd a few good ones as well....

Hey guys, I'm a bit late to the party, but I just discovered the Onlive App that lets you play console-quality games online!
Do the various controllers mentioned in this thread (icontrolpad, gametel, phoneboy, sixaxis) work normally via this app? If so, that would be awesome...

A bit late to the party, but I thought I would pop in to say I'm working on a 3d-printable project that does exactly that. If all goes according to plan, you should be able to order one from a 3d-printing service for $30-50 (I hope!).

Well think about that for a moment.
A screen register is just a signal sent into the mainframe, sort of like a keystroke.
I think it can be emulated.
For instance, a rooted device with a modified Bluetooth stack and adjusted settings could be made to play well. Hitting X on a DS3 controller could register as a screen tap on 1024, 360 (X, Y coordinate) ... which would trigger the "Heavy Attack" command within the Samurai Vengence II App.
In fact, a screen tap would suffice well. Most games requiring movement/pov, have a virtual D-Pad and don't require any Swiping movement... a tap in the right direction triggers your desire. Android supports multiple screen taps, so hitting multiple gamepad buttons can trigger multiple "screen taps" virtually, so no problems!
And this can be fully mapped and navigated using such exploit. So you wont miss out on anything, all Apps can theoretically be navigated easily using a gamepad.
The only problem is: requires root, compatible bluetooth device, lots of time setting up the X,Y coordinates for each different app (or an ability to download/save them as profiles).

An app to do precisely what you describe is apparently in the works from the icontrolpad team.
That said, I'm still hesitant to order the icontrolpad as it looks like the holder may not quite fit the Note. I'm also keen to hear if anyone's successfully used it yet (the holder, not the actual pairing/functionality).

ever since i saw the gametel at CES i´ve been researching a lot
the gametel will not support the Note i´ve seen a video somewhere where they say the maximum phone size for gametel will be arout the galaxy nexus size.
The Icontrolpad seems to be better than the gametel controller´s, it supports analog buttons and it seems to have more developpment behind it (it´s an older deveice tough).
I just discovered the phonejoy which seems to be the better solution for me, i´ll probably invent/addapt some case around it so it can hold my s2, i can´t seem to find it for sale in europe though i know they ship it worldwide but i´d rather buy it here ...
can someone tell me the difference between phonejoy and the ps3 controller configuration/compatibility wise?

I use my ps3 controllers with my sixaxis program and I sit roughly 12ft away from my tv. I just have the hdmi from the phone to the tv and leave it on my ent. center. All emulators work well with sixaxis. You can connect up to 4 controllers, I only have 2 but they work fine. No problems so far.

I picked up the Rockfish adapter from Best Buy after they dropped the price to $29. It works well and was easy to set up with the Shield, but I'm noticing there's a bit of lag between what shows up on the Shield screen versus the TV screen. For example, pull down the notification window, and you see it happen on the TV slightly after you do on the Shield. The beta switch to improve Miracast for gaming seemed to help a little bit, but the delay is still visible.
Are there any particular adapters that work better? I realize the Rockfish/Best Buy brand isn't exactly known for high performance, but I can see how it would be great for easy media consumption.
Ultimately, I'd like to play games like NOVA 3 on the big screen without a goofy 15' HDMI cable running to my Shield. I love portable gaming, but I'm getting old enough to where tiny screens don't cut the mustard for my eyes the way they used to.
I also wonder which brand miracast adapter that can play the games without any lag but so far i know is all the miracast adapter giving little lag when playing games.

the best way to have a wireless experience (sort of) with a TV and a Shield is with an Xbox 360 controler.
Get a OTG usb adapter and conect to it the wireless receiver for a xbox 360 and a the controller will work. So now you can have your shield with hdmi cable to the tv and you in your sofa with a xbox wireless controller.

Not all apps 100% support the wireless version of the xbox controller though even if they support wired controllers (actually a driver issue)

Yeah, it was only on sale for a few days. The price has gone back up since then.
I think some games do better than others. I originally tried NOVA 3 then some emulators, and it was a terrible experience. I tried Bard's Tale from the Android Market just for kicks, and it was actually very good.
Your mileage may vary.

There is a minimal lag when playing online death match, I'm talking a hairline of a millisecond. Overall definitely worth the $69. price!

If u have the 69 bux don't hesitate. There is nothing better than shield and mirroring with this box. Just like the official case this is another "must have"

While I love the thought of being able to wirelessly display my shield's content on my 60" screen, all this talk about lag is going to keep me on the side lines for a while. I currently have a 10ft. HDMI calble connect to the Mini HDMI cable plugged into the shield. It works great, zero lag and very little pixelation during game play. I do not think you are going to get a better response while playing games than this setup. I have little to no patience for lag duing gameplay. I would love to be able to go cable free, but it seems everyone is experiencing some sort of lag with their miracast connection.
I think I will wait for the wife to start screaming at me about the cable running across the living room floor, before I break down and buy a miracast adapter for my TV.
Das, go to a tiger direct and buy it.. Can always return it. Or buy online. Trust me, I am VERY picky as well. I have a lot of toys and have this mirrored to a Samsung d8000 55" its flawless. The wire is tacky and holding the shield with that little bit of cord weight is a pain. Get it, then gimme a thumbs up!
And BTW:: Shadowgun : Deadzone I am always top 3 even when mirroring.

Yah, it always takes a lot of "CONVINCING" for me to continue to dump $$$'s at my toys. Let me know how u like it... The freedom from the dongle hdmi cable, is bliss!

Since the screenbeam pro is optimize for shield and i might getting it one later to play games on my big tv. The price for screenbeam pro can consider cheap also.

I bought the screanbeam pro over the weekend, and I am not a big fan of it. I noticed about a half second lag while doing anything. You also can't stream your pc games using miracast as it uses the wifi signal so you can only stream android games to the tv wirelessly which is a bummer for me. I play more pc games on my shield than android games right now so I really have no use for it.

So you mean that using the screenbeam pro even playing the android games also have half second lag right but i though it is optimize for the shield and the lag is very less and you will not notice it?

I like playing games on my phone a lot, yet i really don't like the touch screen controls, for lack of feedback and responsiveness, therefore i am in the market for an external controller.
I have simple requirements for it :
>Must use Bluetooth connection since my phone (OPPO find 5) does not support OTG
>Must be compatible with my windows 8 laptop
>Must be compatible with Android emulators like FPSe and NESoid emulators
>should have 2 analog sticks
>Should be easy to set up
What do you guys suggest?

They have a new version now, MOGA Power Pro which has built-in extra capacity battery that actually charges your phone while you play, and it has an improved clip to hold bigger phones like Note 2/Note 3.
To be honest, I'm not much into game playing, and only used it for a little bit, but its definitely THE WAY to go if you want to play games on your phone with external controller. Or even better, connect your phone to tv through HDMI adapter, and play your phone or tablet games on big screen.
There is also a long discussion about iPega wireless game controller in this Accessories section of XDA, just look down a few threads below. Its a bit cheaper and also very popular. But MOGA has a much better built quality, and with POWER version offers a great way to charge your phone since you know it will get drained quickly during game play.
So I got a moga pro power for last Christmas. I really want it to be good, but I've not had a good experience with it yet (and that's over a 7 month span!) Just now I was trying it with SuperGNES on my galaxy note 10.1 2014 just to see if it was something with my nexus 5. Fired up street fighter 2, and can't even get a fireball easily, maybe 1 out of 10 times it manages to do it correctly. Seems like it is either lagging or just not registering the buttons well.
Also, why are the buttons so clicky? I feel like I'm going to wake the dead when I try to play in the evening, they're so loud. I certainly wouldn't want to be sitting next to someone who was in the middle of a gaming session with a moga.
Is this the usual situation with Bluetooth controllers, are there any better ones? Should I just get another OTG cable and use my 360 controller?
Anybody else have experience with the Moga pro power or similar? I'm looking for something that works well and has good (console quality) buttons if there are any alternatives.
I use the Drone that was kickstarted not too long ago. I love mine and use it time to time. But there is no battery meter, but it works.
I'm using Moga Pro over a year now for me its perfect, mostly I use it in B mode [HID].
The latest game which I'm playing is Leo's fortune

You're always going to get some lag with a bluetooth controller on Android/iOS. Android doesn't have true built-in Bluetooth controller support, so they either use a custom driver (moga) or the bluetooth keyboard support (Moga in HID mode, plus most other controllers) which isn't optimized for input lag.
If you haven't already, give the other mode on your Moga a try (A vs B). If neither works well, Bluetooth just isn't going to be quick enough for you.

I've been looking around for awhile (aka about 3/4 months on&off), I'm basically sending this out into the interwebs to get a few extra eye's on the look-out or if there's a electronics hacker guru out there who has any idea's to create this.
The key feature of this is a slide out gamepad controller, similar to the Xperia Play. Below is some similar stuff I've managed to find but unfortunately they are designed for Iphone 4/5

If you can find something that fits the Galaxy S4, it should be close enough to fit the HTC One M7.
I know this isn't what you're looking for, but I came from the Xperia Play and this controller is now my go to when it comes to gaming.
