[Q] Will A Nexus 7 LTE purchsed from Best Buy work with a T Mobile sim? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hi. If i get my Nexus 7 from Best buy will it work with a T mobile sim card?. Preferably the new free data plan from T mobile? I just attempted to purchase one in store and they said they couldnt sell it to me unless I activated with there with ATT. But I can go t the website and purchase it. I do not wont to go through the hassle of returning it to best buy if I don't have to . Thanks for your help!

That's a BS from Best Buy Cellular Department - they will ALWAYS try ANYTHING to "activate" something.
I got the same crap at Best Buy, even when I told the BB personnel that the N7 have an UNLOCKED version. He said nope. So in front of him, I pulled my laptop, BOUGHT the N7 unlocked for store picked up. Showed to him, and LOUDLY told him what I did in front of other customer.
The look at his face - priceless...
PS: I am using the N7 LTE with T-Mobile SIM card. The SIM card was bought directly from T-Mobile website when they were selling it for $0.99.

Thank you! I thought it was kinda funny when it didnt say anything at all about activation on the websites checkout. Before we came to that step she asked me if I wanted to buy a case for it. I said " No, I hate to say this but your prices for cases are extremely high." She agreed with me. The guy she asked fr help looked at something on a a monitor and said that this versiong had an att chip. I said "But its unlocked." She said that the register wouldnt let her go any further. I told her would just go back home and order it from there. She said that was probably a good idea.

I had a little trouble with getting my N7 too. They kept asking me if I wanted to sign onto a plan, and I had to keep reminding them that the N7 LTE is an unlocked device. After hassling and almost 30 minutes bypassing some BS about activation, from the associate. I was able to get it. AFAIK, there is a way to get it, without having to activate a plan.

Just order from Bestbuy.com and choose store pick-up.
BB get commission for each activation, just like non-corporate cellphone stores, so they'll say anything to get you to sign-up.
And BB is wondering why they are losing against online retailer...

I must have been lucky. I didn't have to deal with the hard sell when I bought mine. I just showed them the SKU for the unlocked Nexus 7 LTE from my phone and told them I needed it for my T-mobile data sim and they just rang it up for me. They didn't even try to force the extended warranty on me once I told them I didn't want it.

I heard that the t mobile nexus 7 lte that just came out 11-20 has the bootloader already unlocked. Does anyone know if this is true?
Thankyou!

T-Mobile? Why bother with it? Just get the UNLOCKED N7 LTE. This is the SAME ONE as the ones sold by Google from Google Play. It's unlocked - SIM and bootloader.

I did as advised and I am happy. I purchased online and went back to the same store 65 miles away. I know that crazy but i am off this weekend and want to play with it. No muss , no fuss. In and out. Then drove back to my town and had it activated. Of course tmobile has an over sell too. They said they are adding a 2.5 gb plan for the first month for free and then i can cancel. So I figured yea what the hell I have enough sense to cancel a plan. Thats what calendars are for. Plus the one day wait allowed me to cath it on sale for 319. So maybe I broke even on the gas. Thanks for the great advice!

I haven't heard of one coming unlocked from the factory, but it's very easy to unlock it yourself. You can use WugFresh Nexus Root Toolkit, or as I do it, use "fastboot oem unlock" from a command line (once you have fastboot downloaded and the proper drivers installed).
Note that unlocking wipes all user data...

My IMEI got blocked by T-Mobile

I bought my Samsung Galaxy S3 phone off craigslist 2 months ago brand new in box as of Saturday my IMEI has been blocked. This must have been a stolen phone or something. Yeah I was really mad but oh well.. Any suggestions at this point?? Can I unlock it and sell it that way??
HOw did you get notified. And it's good to check esnimei before buying

sell it on eBay or craigslist. Yes you can unlock it first and list that as one of the features

I have one more piece of advice. Such a phone was probably stolen by a T-Mobile employee. Why not call and ask for the customer retention center? They can hook you up.
When I bought 2 s3s and switched my mom to my Hercules they jacked all the 32 and 64 gb cards. They know they are not paying their employees enough.
Insinuate you feel the phone was sold to you by a T-Mobile employee. extremely likely

I didn't get notified..At first I thought I did a bad flash or something because I wasn't getting signal through out the day so I back tracked on everything I did. I went back to stock and started the process over again to root and ect.. I was still not getting signal or data so the next day I called T-Mobile and asked was something wrong with my account they said no all paid and up to date then they asked for the IMEI# and then the T-Mobile rep said " Oh I see what the problem is your imei/phone is blocked. Then right away I knew this must have been reported stolen.

This guy knows nothing of what he is talking about! Your phone was blocked because someone bought the phone and split it into payments on their account! Most likely their account was cancelled or couldn't pay it, so they figured they would sell the phone to offset what they owe. Only only only way to get it unblocked is to get a hold of the seller and have him reactivate the account or pay off what ever they owe for the phone on the account. This is starting to happen a lot now! So much everyone be careful! Another thing also is the guy did an insurance claim and sold you the phone that was supposedly lost. I would hit up the guy! Good luck!
You can unlock it and sell it for people to use on any other GSM service but T-Mobile!

You may be right, however the OP is a paying customer who (hopefully) is in good standing with T-Mobile. If you have a _napkin_receipt (or invent one...) you could get with retention and email them your information.
OP, you made a purchase in good faith and hoped to pay for T-Mobile service in good faith. You want to continue paying T-Mobile and regardless if you were scammed, they could accommodate you.
Otherwise I would unlock the phone and try to sell it to a Wind subscriber. At least make a trade and get a decent phone in return, like a note. If you were honest with me and I was on Wind with a Note or GS2 or whatever they have, I would consider a trade.
You guys must think that T-Mobile is stupid, the invoices are all the same through all locations, and they track them and verify in their systems that the phone was paid. No way around, no matter what you do! You can call and cry and tell them you were ripped off! Phone will no get unblocked unless it shows in their system that the installment plan that was started on that device is paid off!

And that's why you don't upgrade through T-Mobile... If you want a phone it's cheaper to go to like Wal-Mart or some other store (Not Best Buy) pay it in full.. It's screwed up people screw other people over like this...

It don't matter how if he is in good standing with Tmobile, the phone he bought off the craigslist person account is not. That's what's scary about buying from CL. You can try to talk to customer Service, but I think you are screwed.
How i unblocked my imei from o2.
you may get lucky i had the same issue with o2, all i did was got lucky to be honest i unlocked the network and have since been useing a 3 sim works fine cheap to try like £1 so not breaking the bank if not try a few networks like vodafone as they dont piggyback from anyone so they may not get notified that your imei has been blocked.
It probably wasn't stolen but purchased on an EIP and never paid for.. stop buying phones on craigslist unless you have a receipt and proof that it's not on an EIP
that is what happens when you buy second hand, trying to save money cost you alot more than you think. you better find out if it is stolen, first off.
sell it to some developer or someone .. that way you could recover some money
sorry man but now you have an expensive media player. but I see many ppl trying to sell their phone with IMEI blocked.
help ASAP
[hey my cusin locked up my phone{reason i told him im saling it an he wanted to buy it an i said no} its a tmobile galaxy s is there a way tht i can unlock it

Maybe legit, but keep in mind, alot of carrier employee's will steal phones, and those places are exactly where they can get rid of them, I have a friend that got burn twice....I told him stop looking on CL. Just becuase it is new in box, don't mean a damn thing. It may take 2-3mo for the carrier to do inventory, and bingo, that is when they will block it.
Ugh.. the chances of it being an employee are slim. The chances of it being a defaulted Value EIP are most likely.

Hey OP, what happened to this phone eventually? Did you get it to work? Do you know if it works on Straight Talk with Tmobile based SIM?
I am buying an S3 tomorrow off Craigslist and not sure what's is going to happen. I have a Tmobile based straight talk sim I don't know what happens when Tmobile blocks the IMEI does it affect the straight talk users too?

samsung galaxy s3 locked by t-mobile.

Please help me with this problem, i bought 1 samsung galaxy s3 t999 of t-mobile from 1 guy on craiglist.com 3 months ago, for the 1st 3 months, the phones work fine, but just last 4 days, my phone can not call, text or internet (i used prepaid plan $50/month from t-mobile), then i called t-mobile technician support 5, 6 times, after all they said my phone locked by t-mobile, because the owner of the phone didn't pay the bills, they said my phone right now can not using anymore, except i can find the onwer, i tried some unlock code of some website on internet, but it didn't works, either, i hopfully anyone here can help me with this, thanks alot.
Odds are he bought the phone on EIP, sold it and pocketed the difference and just recently cancelled out his contract. Your best bet is probably to sell the phone on craigslist to someone not on T-Mobile. I haven't heard about any solution to this problem.
Only solution is to use it on at&t or another SIM company. Imei has been blocked out on T-Mobile network. That's what the code you bought is for. To use it with another carrier.

Now im concern too because i just got a bnew T999 s3 sealed for $450 on craigslist 2 weeks ago.. I hesitated at first because it's too cheap but seller needs the money badly she says so i bite because phone is sealed with no problems..
Should i be worried? i still have the sellers email and phone number, do you think its a good idea to ask her?.. Will it also work if i go to a t-mobile store and ask them to verify the imei of my purchased phone?
Thanks all in advance for the reply..

This seems to be happening more and more with new phones, and a reason that Ebay is a good option since they offer buyer (and seller) protection.
I am not saying you were scammed, but think of this:
You have the sellers temporary phone # she got from the local prepaid store, and an email she made that day? What is that going to do now? Do you know where the seller lives, or their real name? The two items you are saying you have may not be that effective to trace back to the seller.
However, I wish you the best of luck and no problems.
When will people learn.. 95% of the time Craigslist ='s bad.

If you are going to spend $400-500 on a phone from Craigslist, you might as well just save up for another $100-150 to buy it a from a reputable seller. IE Ebay, Amazon...etc.
But yah, phones on Craigslist = trouble.
Sorry to hear man.. i know your pain
Unlock the phone. Tmobile will even do it for you since they don't bother looking up the status of the phone when they ask you to. This happened to me before and it sucks, but that's what happens when you don't trust your gut. =/ (even sometimes when you do you're wrong)
SO
Unlock it.
Sell it to someone who can use it on ATT.
and get yourself a replacement through a better way..
Cheapest unlock ive found is 7.99 dollars on ebay. You have to let the person access your pc via remote access and let him unlock your connected phone via usb. search ebay "t999 unlock".

Not to be a debbie downer, but if you got it for $450 when they sell for more it's likely going to be blacklisted. Everyone on CL says they need money.
So is this a new thing T-Mobile is doing, or a GSIII thang. Never heard of them being able to lock a phone out of the system because of a unpaid bill, if it was reported loss or stolen maybe, never heard of this till now tho

[Q] Where to buy T-Mobile Galaxy S4 without plan

Hi,
I want to buy the T-Mobile S4 unlocked, but I just need the device, not the plan (cause it's an additional $50)
The only place I know is shopnbc.com but it just got sold out there.
Any other places/sites ?
The phones I bought that way. G2 & Hercules. Were purchased on e-bay.

You could always buy it off-contract from a T-Mobile store and unlock it yourself. I don't know how the price would compare to online vendors or anything, but it's definitely worth considering.
I don't really trust ebay. I'll keep it as a last resort.
I checked Negri electronics. They do have it in stock but it's listed as
"This device is intended for INTERNATIONAL USE only"
They said that it's IMEI blocked from being used in the US due to recent unlocking laws.
But that's not how I understand the law is.... nobody said anything about not being able to use devices which are already unlocked , fully bought and paid for.
Any thoughts?

Yeah, that's an option, just trying to save $50, that's the first month service charge. I don't really need the T-Mobile service at all.

Yeah, but what I'm saying is that you don't have to get service with T-Mobile to buy the S4 from them. Tell them you want to buy it outright and off-contract. Pay full price and walk out device in hand, without any sort of service.

Oh believe me, I know. I just mentioned it because I'm not exactly sure the price difference between an online vendor and in-store; but it is definitely possible to get it there.
If you're looking to buy unlocked, buy from anyone reputable, reputable being a real business. But if you're going to go on eBay, Craigslist, or anything dealing with the average joe, do note that you could be buying a device that has the potential to be blacklisted. When on eBay, look at their feedback and determine how many phones they're selling. If it's just a few, I would be weary as to how they're getting their stock.
Whatever vendor said an international phone can't be used in the USA and is blacklisted due to it being unlocked is full of nonsense and should be avoided like the plague, sketchy stuff.

Checked Amazon, still no reputable seller and 0 reviews
If you're not morally opposed to supporting Wal-Mart, most of them sell the S4 for Family Mobile (T-Mobile) for $629. I think it's even available on their website under "prepaid devices".
Edit: It's not unlocked, obviously, but the unlock process is posted in this forum.
Hmm I just checked and found one with a 97% positive rating on amazon.and yes its unlocked but you have to make sure that it has the lte bands for tmo

I'd rather go with an unofficial unlock. I don't know whether T-Mobile will unlock this.

That's an i9500 . the T-Mobile one is m919. Thanks though
If you buy it from a T-Mobile store, they are supposed to be able to unlock it for you there. They gave me the run-around though; said they couldn't do it in store unless I was a customer while customer service said it had to be done in-store because I wasn't a customer. Plus, as was mentioned in some other thread (or perhaps earlier in this one, I don't remember) you may pay a few dollars more in-store, but if something happens within the warranty period you just take back in-store instead of shipping it off somewhere.

I know... there are inconsistencies in what they're telling people though. I was told by CS that I had to wait 30-40 days to get the unlock code by phone, go through Samsung and get it whenever they get around to it, or go in store and get it whenever I wanted. I was just pointing out the fact that it almost appears that, at the time at least, they didn't know what exactly was going on as CS tells me one thing and the reps in the store said to go through customer service. I ended up not even worrying about TMO and waiting and just did the unlock method here. MUCH less hassle

Note 3 blocked by T-Mobile, need advice

Hey guys, i've got a problem and I need some advice/options.
Long story short, as some of you may know, I bought my T-Mobile branded Note 3 on Swappa in November. Of course, Swappa says that they check IMEIs and the seller assured me that the phone was fully paid for, but a few days ago my Note 3 IMEI was blocked/blacklisted (whatever you call it) by T-Mobile for non-payment of EIP.
I have tried to resolve the issue through communicating with the seller and Swappa, but there's really nothing to be done. The seller won't refund my money, Swappa is powerless, and Paypal says the transaction is past their 45 day dispute period. The phone isn't even unlocked, so I can't even try and use it on another carrier right now.
So at this point i'm trying to minimize my losses. I am open to any suggestions as to how I can either:
1. find a way to get the phone unlocked and use it on another carrier (I know that when a T-Mobile IMEI is blocked or blacklisted, they share that info now with AT&T, but i'm hoping I can use it on Simple Mobile or Straight Talk or Walmart's service)
or
2. sell the phone internationally (with full disclosure of the fact that the phone is blocked on T-Mobile/AT&T of course, but it shouldn't matter if someone wants to use it outside of the US, right?)
or
3. sell the phone as a 'dev' device (at a substantial loss i'm sure), but I have no idea how to do this or even whether a dev would want a phone that is blocked (don't they need to test network stuff?).
I'm trying to find a way to make the best of a bad situation. Any one who reads this post and wants to give me some decent advice is welcome. But if you just want to start trolling PLEASE JUST GO AWAY. I have enough problems as it is right now.
In any case, i've learned my lesson. No more Craigslist, no more Negri, no more Swappa. I'm just gonna pony up the money and get my phones directly from T-Mobile. The money I thought I was saving doesn't look like such a deal anymore.
Never used them, but I thought they provided protection. Looking at the faq however, http://swappa.com/faq/buy/imei_blacklist_future apparently not. that's pretty weak.
I would think you might have some legal recourse if the seller is in the same state, they are committing fraud. You perhaps may have some even if they are out of state??
As for you options... Not really good choices.
Not a big BBB fan as I think they are skewed towards companies that are "Accredited" (ie paid lots of money), but Swapp doesn't look very good http://www.bbb.org/kansas-city/busi...-services/swappa-in-kansas-city-mo-1000002683
You have no options unless the guy called T-Mobile in front of you and u asked them. Sorry bro

pay to get the phone unlocked and try pre-service before deciding to sell internationally. Or go to Play Store and buy regionLock Away, that might unlock the phone or it might not but worth a shot. I would try regionlock away first since that is the cheapest before buying an unlock code.
Same thing happened to me a year ago. Had to get it unlocked to work on aTt. It's cheaper to get it unlock on a online site and see how it goes.

Yeah, but the problem is knowing who shares what. I've been searching all over, and there doesn't seem to be a consensus on who shares and who doesn't. Some say a blocked T-Mobile phone will work on AT&T, some say definitely not. And many of the GSM MVNOs use T-Mobile networks, so i'm not sure if that would automatically mean it would also be blocked on their networks too. I guess i'll have to try them one by one, which will be more money out of my pocket.

So your phone still works on AT&T a year later? That's good news. One of the worst things about this is that I will lose my $30 5GB T-Mobile plan. I was planning on using that plan until I had kids, then putting each of them on the plan too.

I bought it from a used S3 on craiglists beginnng of last year. I pleaded to Tmobile that I would pay the remainder of the balance if the guy didn't pay his payments but they said I am crap out of luck. Used it for about 6 months and sold it. They said they share IEMIs but AT&T seems to me they don't care. They just want customers. If I spent $700 on a note, maybe an extra $20 to get it unlocked isn't so bad. Luckily my friend uses ATT for me to test out.
But they might be more aggressive now, considering Tmobile andATT sell same high end phones now like iphone and note 3.

Yes, I just found that thread too. Tomorrow I will find out, but I need to get an AT&T or Straight Talk sim card first. I'll do that first thing.
Another option?
I really don't want to lose my $30 5GB plan. I've been looking on Amazon and saw that they have some cheap T-Mobile 4G phones like this Nokia Lumia 521: http://goo.gl/KgvOgR
My thought is, I can purchase that, tether my Note 3 to it and keep using it. 90% of what I do on my Note 3 is data/browsing, gaming, etc. So if I can tether to the Lumia, I guess it would work.
Any thoughts?

Couldn't you try calling T-Mobile and have them un-block it or explain the situation to retentions? I just sold a phone on Swappa and they were pretty strict about a clean IMEI. I would reach out more to them.
People financing T-Mobile phones should NOT be allowed to sell them unless they're entirely paid off. PERIOD.

I've already spoken to T-Mobile. Their position is, it isn't their problem. In their system, I'm not the original owner, so that's that. Until the original owner pays the money, the phone will remain blocked.
As for Swappa, I'm pretty disappointed in them. Their sales pitch is that they check IMEIs, which is great, but that doesn't really mean anything. My situation is proof of that. I thought using PayPal would give me protection, but after 45 days, they won't even let you open a dispute.
I have been communicating with Swappa (and the seller). They act like they are going to help you (for example, they said they considered what the seller did to be 'fraud'), but at the end of the day, they can't actually do anything about it.

pm sent about my own situation. maybe some hope.
Generally they only share data with other carriers when it (the device) is stolen. Blocked usually only applies to the original network. Just go use it on AT&T or equiv.

PayPal is less protection than using a credit card. Just about any credit card you could report this and they would reverse the charge. PayPal's 45 days is a ridiculously short period of time for disputes.
Swappa would have a hard time getting a reversal reversed due to the fraud involved.

This is the messed up part. I did a lot of research before I bought my phone from Swappa. I Googled over and over searching for any mention of phones bought on Swappa being blocked or blacklisted, or buyers being scammed. Nothing came up, so I felt pretty confident about using them.

Yes, I have learned my lesson very thoroughly. Note 4 will be direct from T-Mobile.
When I was talking to the seller before the purchase, I asked if the phone was fully paid. He said it was. In addition, his listing said the phone was only 2 weeks old, so I assumed he was the original owner. After I contacted him about the block, he said that he wasn't the original owner and that T-Mobile told him the phone was not on EIP and was fully paid when he bought it from some guy. He says he doesn't have the money to refund, and can't find the person who sold him the phone. (What a shock!)

Free Verizon note 7?

So I went onto Verizon this morning and saw I had a credit on my account. Thought this was weird. I went into my devices and saw they reversed my contract and I am now eligible for a free upgrade. Does this mean we don't need to turn our phones in? Seems like Verizon doesn't even want them.
Anyone else seeing this?

When I said free upgrade I mean I don't have to pay off my contract and eligible for a update with no penaltys. Sorry if I was misleading. Still says if I get a new phone it will a cost every month. My point is we don't have to turn our phone in and we don't have to pay for it anymore. So in essence, it's free.
I just noticed I had "Upgrade Available" on my Note 7 and came here to ask about it. I wonder if this means I can skip Costco altogether? If so that would be awesome. I am on chat now trying to see what that means.
Yep. Because they no longer selling the note 7 series. They are canceling the contracts and giving your money back for the payments and upgrade back

Yep. Wife upgrade got reversed. Mine didn't as I wasn't in the payment plan before hand. Mine might be a little tricky to be reversed as I was just month to month before hand. They assured me it will be reversed.. So tell me this. I exchange the note 7 get the s7e. So I should still have s free upgrade as all did was exchanged it. This is thru bb.

They told me on Chat that I could take advantage of upgrade at a Verizon Corporate store even though I bought it at Costco. He did say there was a $20 upgrade fee but that is worth it to me to avoid Costco.
There was no mention of being able to keep the Note 7 though, he did seem a little confused that there was an upgrade available.
He just told me that Verizon may advise me to return Note 7 to Costco but I can still get upgrade at Verizon Store. I may try this afternoon. If anyone else tries please post results.
EDIT: Looks like you can do the upgrade online and preorder the Pixel. I haven't completed the process yet, not sure if that is what I want.
My dad said something about seeing a credit for $700 or something like that in our account today. I'm also wondering if I could get them to refund what I paid for the note 7 which was like $200(edge program) and keep the note 7 but order something else.
Even if they let you keep them I am certain they will blacklist all of the IMEI numbers on their network and it will become a wifi only device.

and for throwing flames  I'm really thinking about the s7 edge since you can root it but errr its already like 7 months old, a bit tiny, and usb 2.0
This may work. You don't have to send the phone back in. I'm trying to get the $180 I spent on it refunded to me and then I'll keep the note 7 but order a different phone... Maybe the v20 or something..
Think I will stick my old Core Prime on to the back of the Note7 and call it a day.... Call it my "modular solution".
Yep. Free note 7. He said don't send it back... And I'll be refunded the $180 I spent in a week or so.. I'm eligible for a free upgrade now...
So I have two notes waiting to be returned for the recall. We can keep these definitely?
If someone goes to the store and upgrades and they don't ask for the phone at that time, let me know please. Thx.
Anyone know if we could use the upgrade at Best Buy to get a phone with one of their promotions? Like the free Samsung TV or a $200 gift card?
I don't believe Verizon can bump these off the network legally. I have a plan in good standing. I will not adversely affect the network by using it. Big Red just passed the buck to Samsung is all. I have no repayment contract with Sammy either.
This is really the best case scenario for those that wanted to chance keeping the Note7.
