[Q] Multiple app queries for M Dual - Sony Xperia M

Have some queries on multiple apps & would appreciate your inputs guys (M Dual) :
1) The pre-installed application 'appXtra shows 'This service is not available for your location' (For India) - don't understand why it would be preinstalled in Indian model if service is unavailable for India.
2) Bigflix - I needed to know before registering, is there any specific offer from Sony (like how Nokia offers for their handsets as a bundle) if we register from within the phone app.
3) Haven't yet activated McAfee Security - Is this Antivirus & Security as there seems to be no standalone McAfee Security app on Play. Also is this trial version or full featured premium version offered to Xperia buyers?
4) Sony Music (powered by Infibeam), have not yet registered and once again same question for this as well, is there any specific offer from Sony (like how Nokia offers for their handsets as a bundle) if we register from within the phone app.
5) Xperia Link when opened says 'Start the Xperia Link application on your PC', where do we download this from as searched everywhere & did not find it
6) The app 'Bump' simply force closes at each and every instance when trying to run it - anyone else facing this issue?

Guys since few months I am not able to purchase apps from google play store., they Say card is not accepted.. I have an active debit mastercard.. Had contact Bank but no solution.. How many off you having same problem? Any solution of this? Pls help

Missing Apps in Market

Anyone else had problems with missing apps in the Market with the Desire?
Specifically:
http://www.google.co.uk/support/forum/p/Android+Market/thread?tid=72687bc93eba9a1b&hl=en
Good example seems to be the National Rail app, but I'm finding plenty of others too...some I've paid for :-(
Daern
Yes, I have. JuiceDefender is missing for me, however I got it from andappstore.com. No sign of that National Rail one there though.
And the BlueAnt Q1 app is not available....
I think everybody has problems finding all the programs. Try to search for Raging Thunder 2 for example. You will properbly only find the lite version and not the full version. I bought the full version with my Milestone, but now it cannot be found anymore.
Every Android phone has a 'fingerprint' in the build.prop file. This fingerprint has to be approved by google. Somehow google has not yet approved the fingerprint of the Desire, so protected apps cannot be fount yet.....
I have no clue why this takes so long.
Maybe someone from google is here and reads this and can explain to us why it's taking so long for the fingerprint to be approved?
Interesting. According to the similar thread about the Legend, however, it seems that HTC are pushing out an update to fix this...
Perhaps it's the fingerprint from the Hero
I've read about this issue which was recently explained by a developer of XDA (nprussell).
Apparently everyone is in the same boat so to speak. He states that many "protected" apps are missing from the market. There are generally two reasons why apps will be missing from the market:
When a new ROM or handset is released, the manufacturer (i.e. HTC), sends the build to Google for verification, which includes a 'Fingerprint' (a unique line of text which governs its market access) in one of the build files. Generally, it states the name of the phone and Android version in the fingerprint. With Root & System write access, this fingerprint can be changed, but although it's been claimed that the Desire has recently been Rooted, we still don't have confirmation from any developer of it being able to gain System write access.
Only until Google approve the build, then fingerprint will be added to their allowed database to view these protected apps on the market.
The other cause for apps missing from the market in builds is because of permissions of certain apps. For example, the barcode scanner app requires permissions to use the camera/auto focus. They are NOT protected apps. If the XML permission files are missing from system/etc/permissions, then Google Market will simply block these apps from showing.
HTC need to chase Google up on this and Google need to activate the Fingerprint.
Excellent info, thanks for that. So it's chasing HTC to get them to chase Google for an update.
I think I'll just go back to stopping the tide from coming in...much better chance of success, I reckon
Is there no where we can download the apk (for free apps of course) and just transfer it to the phone and install it ourselves?
strange think is I could find some apps. I found and installed Barcode Scanner no prob..
???

just google which ever apk you want (for free apps obviously) and install it to your phone, with the sync software that was on your original memory card.
i emailed HTC today to find out what they and google are doing to sort this out. if everyone emails them they might eventually chase google...

Just to confirm this explanation, I actually emailed HTC support asking about the missing apps and this was pretty much exactly what they told me. They are waiting for Google to approve the ROM for copy protected apps, and apparently it takes about a week... so hopefully we can expect full access some time next week. Fingers crossed!

Yep, that's about all we can do right now to install apps (or use barcode scanner app) which are not available via the Marketplace.
Tip: For anyone who has not done this yet and would like to know, make sure you first install HTC Sync (found pre-installed via your SD card).

[GUIDE] Google Music Beta in the UK

Figure this may be useful as the stock music player installed on the Galaxy Nexus is all setup ready for the cloud based goodness of Google Music, but it's a service supposedly only available in the US at the moment.
To work around that, try the following (worked for me, YMMV):
Download the appropriate version of Tor Browser bundle for your platform from:
https://www.torproject.org/projects/torbrowser.html.en
Install, load up the Vidalia control panel and click "Settings"
Navigate to the advanced section, click "Edit current torrc"
Paste the following into the bottom of the torrc file:
ExcludeNodes {be},{pl},{ca},{za},{vn},{uz},{ua},{tw},{tr},{th},{sk},{sg},{se},{sd},{sa},{ru},{ro},{pt},{ph},{pa},{nz},{np},{no},{my},{mx},{md},{lv},{lu},{kr},{jp},{it},{ir},{il},{ie},{id},{hr},{hk},{gr},{gi},{gb},{fi},{es},{ee},{dk},{cz},{cy},{cr},{co},{cn},{cl},{ci},{ch},{by},{br},{bg},{au},{at},{ar},{aq},{ao},{ae},{nl},{de},{fr}
(This will force Tor to use a US exit node)
Save the settings, restart Tor.
In the Tor tunneled Firefox that's now running, visit:
http://music.google.com
If you get an error about it only being available in the US, go back to the Tor Vidalia control panel and click the "Use a new identity" button (to pick a new exit node) and refresh the page. Repeat until you get a Google music login box.
Try signing in with your existing Google account - this worked fine for me but there seem to be conflicting reports about whether it works in all cases for non-US accounts.
If not, you may have to setup a new GMail account solely for Google Music use. Be sure to create the account using the Tor tunneled Firefox so that Google think you're in the US when you sign up.
Once you've logged in to Google Music once and accepted the T&Cs (maybe grab the dire Busta Rhymes freebie track to check its all working) you can ditch Tor - Google Music will quite happily now let you access and upload music from the UK.
Load up the Music Player, link the newly Google Music enabled account to it, enjoy.
thanks
streaming on my device is quite nice, but i have to wait until the song is fully loaded to start it (in Music-app)... little bit annoying
A much easier way to do it is just use a proxy website (like those ones to get around school/work firewalls). The majority are based in the US.
I used the first link that came up on a Google search to sign up for Google Music back around the time it launched. Less hassle than downloading software etc.
The only real problem is that you can't access the store, which means you can't get any of the free music or buy anything.
You still get the syncing and upload abilities though, which is quite nice. I just need to sort out my music collection now before I upload it
I know that's probably a bit stupid but I can't install the app from the market. It downloads correctly but when it wants to install the app it says it isn't signed properly or so. Is this because it isn't developed for the desire? I would like to use it until my nexus arrives.

You need to uninstall any previous versions and also make sure you clear data under application settings

Found an interesting thread about it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350164
I keep getting an 'error at line 1' message when I click on OK. Even without entering any extra text I also get it
The 'error at line x' is something to do with Windows 7 (possibly x64) editing the torrc file. Had the same issue...
Easiest fix is to go to the Tor folder/data/tor/ then open 'torrc' with Notepad manually. Edit the file by hand, save and restart Tor and it'll accept the changes fine.
I used TunnelBear on my PC to trick Google into thinking I Was in the USA, then accessed Google Music over the internet and registered for the service.
Then on my phone, I downloaded the Music APK from this XDA page and installed it on my phone.
Works fine for me for playing music on my phone and music off my computer which has been uploaded to the cloud.
Play still won't give you access to the music section though as it's not licensed still for UK use.
lol. what's the problem: i'm using music beta since last november here in germany even though its not even released here.
Hmm, used Tor and got my account linked to Google Music. I'm now uploading an album just fine, but when I try to use the Music Manager to listen to the songs, it still says it's only available in the US.

Social Geek

Hello there!
My name is George, I am an amateur develeper and I would like your feedback on my application!
I've developed an app called Social_Geek. The app is designed to do the following
1) Lets you create a profile that can be retrived be others who have installed the same app and are in close proximity (bluetooth).
2) Lets you scan for other Social_Geek users to check their profiles, kinda like a local social network.
All these happen via bluetooth.
Check it out and tell me what you think, if you've encountered any bugs or simply your opinion!!
Thanks!

Hi,
We are 2 users on the tab s & we wanna use one same game (sims freeplay) but i did not find a way to allow an app for 2 account. The game need ~700mb & with only 16gb it's huge if i must download the game twice...
Any idea ?
(Sorry for my bad english, ask me if it's not clear )
Thanks in advance !
What Android version are you running?
Is your device rooted?
Doesn't the game offer different accounts? Maybe trough different google accounts.
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Free mobile app
Lollipop 5.0.2 no root.
Yeah, the game save on a facebook account that is connected on the device but it's not really simple to change the facebook account each time. And the android version allow user session (c.f: http://gadgetguideonline.com/android/lollipop/how-to-use-android-lollipop-guest-user-mode-and-multiple-users/)
So, i am using this but if i have an app on my session, i am the only one who can open this app. I am looking for a way to allow an other user to open this app.
Thanks for your answer

LineageOS 14.1 - How to enable Email app for restricted user (for Exchange)?

Hi,
finally I found LineageOS as a suitable OS for the Moto G4 Plus in a work environment, where employees get an restricted user profile. In my test, everything seems to work fine up to now. But the problem is now that I cannot enable the "Email"App for the restricted profiles to connect to the Exchangeserver 2010.
Since k9-Mail does not work with Exchange, it could not work as a replacement.
I read, the reason is that a google account cannot be used in restricted accounts. That is fine. But I don't want to use a google but an exchange account. Does anyone has an idea how to solve this?

I don't have this device but, your best bet is to post this question within the following Official LineageOS thread for your device.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3522101
If all else fails, and you don't receive any responses from the above thread, you can always try to obtain some member guidance within the following Q&A thread that's specific to your device.

Good Luck!

So you have gapps installed. Do you really need it in this setup? Without gapps you get the default aosp mail. No Google account on the phone.
Hmm. I suppose it is not a device specific problem, but a general one.
Maybe even a general Nougat one? <-- UPDATE: Stock seems not to have the selection list **
And no. No GAPPs. It is the modified Version with MicroG. Email app is com.android.email (Version 7.1.2). I will try the unmodified version also.
If I go to the user page where I can allow, which apps can be used, more or less every app is listed but (UKW-Radio, Recorder AND E-Mail).
I also tried to move the Email from /system/app to /data/app which only caused force closes.
Maybe another reason could be that by entering exchange data you will be forced to add it as device administrator so it is not in the list?
Any help is apreciated.
I tested several mail-apps now, but either they do not support the Exchange server or they send a lot of data to other obscure servers so I have not found any alternative. I also installed the "Gmail" app (which is also usable with an exchange account) but this also does not appear in the share list and I absolutely do not understand why.

Sorry, if I do not understand if there is a hidden meaning behind this. If this is a serious tip I do not know what app? The android outlook app (which really looks neat) happily transfers AND STORES your account credentials and the content on their servers (see e.g. https://www.pcworld.com/article/288...s-new-outlook-apps-over-privacy-concerns.html , article is from 2015, but I suppose it is still valid. Some time ago I checked it and found out that there is no connection to my but only to some foreign servers). That is not only critical in my sense of privacy but also illegal in the sense of the GPDR. Funny that some people advertise certified Microsoft cloud products for the GPDR.
Nevertheless: Even if I would not use an MS server this would not solve the problem that I cannot select Email or GMail as an allowed app for an restricted user. I also tried the unmodified Lineageos but it has the same issue.
I really do not understand how all the companies work with android phones in working environments. All this fiddeling around just do protect the phones by encrypting the content in case of loss, to give the user restricted access so that they cannot install apps that must not be on the device and to care about privacy. Like on a usual work pc. Do they all use I-Phones?
possible Explaination (?)
(arrg. Always copy your text before you try to send your post) short summary of what I've written:
according to these links my understanding like this:
https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/3175031?hl=en and https://android.stackexchange.com/q...restricted-accounts-on-phone-running-lollipop
"Normal user" and "restricted user" is not equivalent to windows "admin" and "restricted user". "restricted users" are not allowed to use accounts so you need to use "normal user" which has some rights less than the owner. All allowed apps has to be installed again (but are just links, no duplicates).
The store and some other apps can be locked with a pattern.
I will test this. If you have further ideas or a suiable management solution for more than 10 phones to hesitate to write.
