Problem with gps is unable to lock - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Does anyone experience this problem? I just found out that my gs4 gps is terrible that it couldn't lock in my current location, thus, preventing me from using google map to navigate. My gs4 is complete stock and unrooted. Anyone who experienced the same problem, please share your fix if you have any. Thanks

My GPS worked great... for a few months. Then one day I tried to do some navigating and realized it wasn't working anymore. I wiped my data, flashed different ROMs, reverted back to stock, tried multiple GPS fixes, etc, etc. I spoke to a Samsung rep (because I don't have T-Mobile service or I would have gone through them) and told them the things I did; aside from the warranty-voiding stuff, that is. They concluded that it was more than likely a hardware fault and to send it in for repair/replacement. Barring any water damage, the fix would be covered by the warranty. I haven't had a chance to send it in yet, but there's that option.

Thanks for sharing your experience, my gps worked great before too, but only yesterday it stopped working no matter what I tried. Guess I'll have to call tmobile regarding this problem then

wait 30 sec
long press power button and select restart..

I might be doing this wrong, but using that particular code doesn't allow me to enter the Main Menu or UMTS options. I can use the code to enter service mode in the Sim-unlock thread, but even once I can get into UMTS>Common>NV REBUILD, there isn't an option for NV REBUILD. Only load default, erase EFS, backup, and restore... I played around in there when I was sim-unlocking my phone when I first got it and was appalled when I found out what exactly the EFS was... I'm basically lucky I didn't screw it up; so you can see my current unease of just selecting some random option from that menu.

I'm not sure if this method only works for gs3, because I can't seem to locate the main menu and umts options from dialing the code provided.

[Q] Where did my lockscreen go?!

When I was using my phone today, I noticed that a long press on the power button was shutting down the phone instead of bringing up the menu. Then, I realized that I had also lost my lock screen, which I really hadn't noticed because I don't use the pattern lock. Turns out, even if I enabled the pattern lock, password, or PIN, using the power button still took the phone straight into the home screen.
I don't know if it was an bug in a random app, malware, or what... I spent a lot of time searching for an answer on what might have caused it, but didn't find anything really helpful. I started deleting all my recent apps, but couldn't get the lock screen back, so I ended up restoring the phone to factory settings and starting from scratch.
The only reason I'm posting about it is that I'm not entirely sure what caused it... I'm debating the possibility that it could it could be a touchwiz bug. Anyone else ever run into this?

Yes, its a known bug. I just ran into the bug today and I refuse to do a factory reset to fix the issue since its just gonna happen again. Samsung should be able to fix it with a simple software update.

No, so far the only way known to temporarily fix the issue is to do a master reset.

Ah, that would explain it... I was tearing out my hair trying to figure out what I had done. Funny thing is, I don't even *like* having a lock screen. I was just bothered by the fact something was wrong...
How did you find out that it's a known bug? I must have been phrasing my search poorly, because I couldn't find squat about the issue.
Still, whether I like the screen lock or not, I think this is a pretty decent security bug, considering it removes the ability to lock the phone...

I know because I seen it under "list of known issues". If you scroll down a few post you'll find it. The downside to not having a lockscreen is that if you receive a text message your phone will automatically unlock and you may accidentally dial someone if the phone is in your pocket.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WITH THE LOCKSCREEN ISSUE I ADVISE USING A 3RD PARTY LOCKSCREEN. I AM CURRENTLY USING "AGILE LOCKSCREEN" (WHICH CAN BE FOUND IN THE ANDROID MARKET). I AM USING THE PRO VERSION, BUT THE FREE ONE WILL DO THE JOB ALSO.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Mine's gone too.... Now that we have root I've a nandroid backup which I believe still had the lockscreen and will try restoring from that. If that doesn't work then I guess I'll do a master reset and restore from Titanium Backup. Hopefully Clockwork Recovery will survive the master reset...
I thought that was just me yesterday so I did a master reset

For people having issues of making calls/etc. when the screen unlocks:
Just put the phone in your pocket with the screen facing AWAY from your body.

Mine is not seeing any satellites. When maps is open my location just jumps around based on cell tower data and eats battery. I'll have to find out how to put it back to stock, and maybe I'll get lucky and it'll work.
Odin'd back to stock. Didn't fix it, but I really didn't expect it to. A new device is coming tomorrow.
They are delivering it Thanksgiving day??
That's what the receipt says anyway.

No data connection after flashing a new ROM? Look here for fix.

I experienced the problem of no data connection after flashing a new rom on my Optimus G. The phone needs to be reprogrammed, updating your PRL and Profile will NOT help. You must dial ##72786# this will start the handsfree activation and your phone will reboot a few times. It may take a few seconds in between steps of the activation and it will seem like nothing is happening. Just be patient and wait for everything to complete. When it is finished your phone's data connection will be working properly.

Some history,
I've been running Imperium and stockishv1 and v2 for a few days. I've made a couple backups along the way. About an hour ago I lost data. The phone works and makes calls, but my data is dead.
I've tried update profile and prl, and all I get is" Network error" I've tried this many times throughout all these steps.
I've restored backups, pre-Imperium and Stockishv1 with the same results.
I tried the procedure in this thread and still nothing.
Anybody have any other ideas? Would LGNPST restore the phones modem?

I killed the connection optimizer while I was at work because I can't use work's wifi and listen to my icecast station I setup.
This killed my data connection and immediately put my phone into roaming. I rebooted like three times and finally my data came back (i also updated the PRL and the Profile, not sure which fixed it but something did)
From the things you guys speak of, I would guess the same issue is at hand.

Try the G2 thread, I'm sure if you post in the exact same section over there you might have better results. General answer is that it is probably APN settings. Find an app, enter them, set it, and reboot (might not need to reboot).

This worked great, my gps issues started when I flashed to a 4.2.2 rom and went back to stock 4.1.1. After searching endlessly this is the easiest fix there is out there.
Fast and easy
WOW. This worked so fast and easy! GPS Signal locked on instantly after the reboot and turning on GPS. I lost my GPS going from Cyanogenmod 10.1 to Darthstalker S3 edition Version XI.

Since this fix seems to be pretty solid (and becoming a prevalent issue), I've included it in my signature.
This thread makes me a lot less wary about flashing something like Liquidsmooth, when Wicked remains my daily. I'd need to switch back and forth. Good to see there seems to be a practical way of dealing with possible GPS loss, without jumping through hoops to get it back.

GPS issues

Hi! I have 3month old Tmobile Galaxy S4. Everything is great expect for GPS. My GPS wont lock on. When GPS refuse to lock on. I use an app called GPS Status & Toolbox. I use GPS Status to reset my GPS. Then I go back to Google Maps and GPS will lock on. After 3 or few days, GPS will stop working. I go to back to GPS STATUS app to reset the GPS. Then GPS will work again. Then repeat.
Is that software issue or hardware issue? I hate it when GPS stop working and I have to reset it.
And no, I don't have Yahoo Weather. Hope you have any tips or ideas. Thanks
I don't know for sure...but this screams "software issue" to me. Are you rooted?
If so I would suggest trying a different rom to see if the problem goes away
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
Sounds like a time issue. GPS cannot function correctly without correct time. Maybe you have "network-update time and date" disabled? You maybe can also try a diff radio? Or reflash your existing one.
