Is there some kind of internet filter turned on our devices...? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Because it sure seems like it... I can get on most major websites (XDA, Google, youtube, Facebook, etc) just fine on my phone, but when I go to (nsfw alert!) xvideos.com and load a video there, or even on serebii.net it turns up as http error 504. However if I use wi-fi I can view these sites just fine.
Did T-mobile end up shafting us with this filter, or is this something I can correct? I've tried disabling everything related to knox (all six of the apps that appear when you search Titanium Backup for knox) and restarting, no dice.
EDIT: I've just tried wi-fi tethering with my note 3, and going to serebii.net still gives a error 504 timeout.
EDIT #2. Oh yeah, forgot to mention this is a stock firmware with root, knox warranty 0x1, with TWRP recovery installed. justin case there is or isn't an update released since Oct. 2nd to now, my baseband version is N900TUVUBMI7

Serebii probably isn't working cause even on wifi and 4G lte, it won't load. X videos works fine either way for me.

If you have AdAway or some other ad blocking system on your phone, I've seen some sites blocked when they are prefaced with an ad site, but other than that I've not seen any blocking.

I have the same concern I cannot seem to load any flash videos from no sites ?? Did you find a fix

Flash? What browser are you using. Flash is not supported by most now and you have to add flash to those that support it.

I meant to say the player the browser uses not sure if its flash but it just wont play any internet videos at all like before

Ahhh, big screen bieng used for noble purposes!
Theres no filter... I would delete Ad Away if you have it and install AdFree, then give it a go. It can also be due to all those sights bieng chock full of advertisements the TMO signal in your area just isnt good enough. Its going to try to load more then the other sights, and thats where 504 timeout errors can occur if page does not load in time properly.
run a traceroute on the phone on and off wifi to sites with the issue and see where it falters. You can also check ping, but check routing first. Use the apps on playstore with same name its TraceRoute & TracePing.

Okay. I'll be sure to give it a go tomorrow, for I have to work soon.. and yeah nowadays serebii.net is working again. Also my ad blocker is simply called AdBlock.

Didn't work for me. AdAway does though. Has trouble sometimes updating but eventually gets it. Don't need to update often.

Any idea what is the cause of this ? How do I get ad away ? I just dont understand why all of a suddent it stopped being able to play online videos .

All I know is, its working just dandy on jedi rom & I havent had any issues with it. It replaced AdAway which Im sure theres a good reason for... west have you done the ping and trace tests yet? 504 is generally a time out issue so, give it a shot on wifi & also on tmos network. and how many bars do you have in area your trying it in?

No I have not tried those yet but I can assure that when I do try to load any sort of video on the stock browser or chrome or any browser I download I get the error timeout which is unusual . I'm on stock non rooted so don't know what the issue is I will run those test . By the way are you all having the prevention information notification, for some reason I believe it's that what is triggering the whole filtering

It's your ad blocker. I know adfree from bigtincan was down for a while, but it's working now, adaway and root toolbox causes too many problems.

[Q] Ad free app breaks 4g??

I dont live in a 4g area so this is hard for me to test. When i was away for work in a 4g area i noticed some web pages would load and some would load halfway and stop. Im rooted running evio rom from caulklin. After playing around for a while it seemed once i uninstalled ad free the problem went away. Can anybody else confirm this or have a fix? Thanks!
Anybody? I cant be the only one.
Can you list some of the site you were having issues with? I use Ad Free and live in a 4G area. If you give me some specifics I can test it out for you.
Yes it does. Noticed this a couple of months ago. When using 4G and ad free, a site will not load passed the first ad. It will get stuck in the ad tag and prevent the entire page from loading. Using 3G or WiFi the site will load. 4G really isn't broken as you can use it for anything else that requires a data connection but you won't be able to load pages with ads.
For example, on 4G, load espn.go.com. It won't load. Now load the adless espn mobile site. It will work.
This is an interesting problem, because Adfree does not interfere with browser operation on 3G or WiFi or with non-browser apps. The issue is specific to 4G and browsers. There must be a simple work around?
Wow I have been having the same issue and did know what the cause of it was. My first thought it must have be the custom rom that was causing this issue. I will uninstall Ad free to see if the issue does in deed go away.
Update: Yup, that did resolved my issue. Thanks OP
AdFree merely replaces the hosts.txt file in the \system\etc directory. Are you guys implying that removing AdFree restores the stock file? I'm having this web page loading issue but I manually swapped out the hosts file without installing AdFree...
If so, that's a tough decision...no ads or full browser......
How did you get the original hosts file. I need it because my uninstallation of adfree didn't fix my problem with the browser not fully loading pages .

I know I'm extremely tardy to this party, but I was trying to resolve an issue with my own ad blocker and found this thread on Google. Anyway, using AdAway helped me figure out the solution, and someone else stumbling across this thread might want to know.
If your APN has a proxy in it, ads will get through. Delete the proxy, keep all the other APN settings the same, and you should be okay.I'll see if Straight Talk tries to do anything untoward with my data over the next month, but so far so good.

solution!!!
I don't know you already fix this problem or not.
I searched several site and finally got an answer for this problem.
Just connect WiFi and let it do whatever it want.
Before I found this, I tried several things;
1. restarted my phone
2. pulled out battery and put back
3. killed the process from task manager
4. removed FB account
5. removed FB app from my phone (actually, back to previous version) and update again
Non of these helped me ever!!!
Also, this problem is not device specific. (I realize it after googling it)
I mean various devices and locations had the same issue.
Anyway, good luck!!!

Thanks. Connecting it to wifi did allow it to finish the unending installation very quickly. That was annoying and I'd like to know why an update initiated on its own, seemingly from within the app and not through the Play store (I do not have any auto-updates allowed, especially for social media apps), and drained my battery while it looped an install process that was apparently constantly seeking a wifi signal to complete.
Thanks a lot!!

I started having this issue today on my Galaxy Tab 2. The only solution people found on different forums is ti turn on WiFi. It'll immediately start downloading and would get installed (Probably due to its size it does not want to be downloaded on 3G/4G). Although I don't feel very comfortable installing this, Does not feel very genuine to me.
Did any one else had this problem? or any issues after installing it?
I had to switch to Wifi about 3 or 4 times and then it finally downloaded. It tried to download all of last night and killed the battery. In the mean time my phone has switched to using Edge instead of 4g and no matter how many times I switch Airplane mode on/off or restart the phone I can't get my 4g back. Think it is just a local problem? I've got a S3 on T-mobile in Orange County, CA.

Play Store Download Errors

Yesterday I had some apps that had new updates on the play store, so I started to update them.
I started seeing one wouldn't go through because it was giving "Package file invalid". So I tried over WiFi and same issue.
Got home and looked at my two tablets (Nexus 7-2012 and asus tf101) and they were having similar issues with updates, but different apps. I was also even getting download error #497. Sometimes just trying over and over again would work but now it seems like some apps just wont go due to the errors.
I tried clearing the cache/data of play store and download manager as google suggests, but that did not help. I've tried to use google's contact us form but I type this lengthy description of my issue and it tells me that I need to type more... (probably a glitch in their contact us form...) So I cant get something sent to them.
My girlfriend just got the S4 for sprint yesterday and now she is having the same issue, some apps wont download due to invalid package.
Is anyone else having this issue? Any suggestions on what can be done? Anyone think this is a issue on google's end?
Also, of my devices only the tf101 is rooted at the moment. Had some issues where I had to do factory restore on my GS4 and haven't rooted it again yet, and nexus 7 I kept reverted back to stock to get official 4.3
If they're system apps use a root explorer and delete them and install them again (if they're available on the playstore) if they're not then install them delete data and cache and remove your account and launch playstore and sign in and it should fix it... Remember if u delete an app with a root explorer you have ti reboot for it to take effect... And also fix permissions...

ive also been having errors with this. im on revolt 8/6 build and using PA gaps. but i have also tried with normal gaps, and get the same. its funny because it only happens with certain apps, and the apps that have the error change everytime i flash a different gaps. And yes, it even happens on newly installed apps.
Though to fix, i just turn off wifi and use data, its inconvenient but its a workaround until the actual problem is identified

I dont think that will work because if it happening across multiple devices with and without root then I'm thinking it's a issue on Google's end. Plus my phone is not rooted anymore.

go to play store, open menu go to settings and there is an option for auto update. I believe the default is to update over wifi only.
I was reading something earlier tonight (after having problems with 10.2 unofficial and getting error 497 with every file I tried to download) that Google was having problems with a few different ISP's and the Play store connections. Some people with the Nexus 7 (2013) were getting this error straight out of the box. Updates sometimes worked via Mobile network, but WiFi would fail with an error code or say package invalid every time.

Yeah, I just saw some articles on it finally. Sounds like everyone is reporting the same issue no matter what version of play store etc.
Use a VPN. Apps that refuse to update on my Wi-Fi network seem to update or download successfully if I use something like Hideman or Hideninja. I've not had problems with either. I can't vouch for their security, but Play Store reviews seem mostly positive for each. I use Hideninja VPN because it's free without time restrictions whereas with Hideman, you're limited to 5 hours each week and the shortest length of time you can activate is a 1 hour block.

I had read about using a VPN over the weekend, just needed to find a app to use. Hideninja did the trick and my apps all updated finally.
The hardest part was trying to download hideninja... it wouldn't download on my phone haha but luckily I have helium on all my devices and its set up with my google drive so it thankfully downloaded on another device.

Ty, I've been hunting for a solution for some time now, and I didn't think of something like that.... It is true, when I disabled AdBlock Plus, I didn't see the error again.
Guess I either need a replacement for Adblock Plus, or something in it's settings to change?? hmmmm.
Again though, thanks again!!!!

wow thanks for this. It's been driving me insane. I removed Adblock Plus and it worked. So I installed AdAway and rebooted. Seems to still work fine also. So try that ad blocking app out. So far so good.
Solved ! ( apparently not related to AdBlockPlus)
To make a long story short, I don't have AdBlockPlus but i DO have DroidWall installed.
just forgot I had to allow "MediaServer" to access the internet (as well as YouTube of course) - problem solved.
This has been happening to me. I fixed it by going to manage apps. YouTube, Delete cache, delete data, uninstall updates and I clicked the turn off button. Ran cleanmaster app and removed junk files. Then I rebooted and turned youtube back on and now videos will play. I'm on the Galaxy S4 stock.
Hopefully this helps someone
By the way Facebook wouldn't play any videos it would say "can't play video" and now Facebook is playing the same videos that it couldn't before.

It's happening to me now too. But since mine's installed as a User App and not a System App, I can't just uninstall the updates, although I did try uninstalling it completely and reinstalling. No joy.
I've tried a dozen different things. You should know that lots of people post lots of "solutions", but for 95% of the users, none of them work.
I'm hurting especially bad, because it happens to me on both types of connections (4G & WiFi). I even tried a 3rd party YouTube app and that wouldn't work either.
All this since today's (or last night's?) v10.25.57 YouTube update!
I am running a Samsung.

Hi,
I tried disabling AdAway and reverting back to the original Hosts file, but no joy.
This time, it's affecting both my 4G & WiFi connections. When this happened before, I could at least watch it on 4G.
The weird thing is, that if I'm not signed in, I can watch videos. But once I sign in, EVEN WHEN USING A 3RD PARTY YOUTUBE APP, I have the problem!
Yes, eventually a YouTube update will come through that will fix it (could be 6 months or so), but I'm thinking that something "underneath" it all got updated/changed at the same time, because otherwise;
Why would it affect me only when I sign in?
And if it was limited to only the YouTube app being updated and there isn't anything else being changed at the same time in the background where you don't see it, then how could 3rd party YouTube apps be affected when you sign in to them with your Google (Gmail) account?
See what I mean? Something else, "under the hood" simply must be going on, amen?
TTYL
