It works on my HDX 8.9" as well. One very cool thing I noted was that even when I have my hardware bluetooth keyboard attached, the Swiftkey prediction/completion/correction still works. It comes in very handy when I fat-finger the little bluetooth keyboard.

[Q] Photoshop Touch on Kindle Fire?

I'm curious if anyone has tried to load any of the Adobe tablet apps onto the Kindle Fire, and if so, did they work?
I picked up a Kindle Fire yesterday, but haven't opened it yet, mainly because I don't want to find out the hard way that it won't be able to use awesome tablet apps that are currently only available in Google's Android Market.
I've heard that you can sideload apps on the Kindle Fire, but I'm not sure if that would work in this situation since it is a paid app that requires the Android Market. I don't have any other tablets, and when I went to buy the Photoshop Touch app on the Android Market website, it told me it wasn't compatible with any of my devices (only have Android phones so far).
I am guessing it would work, but the resolution is going to cause some of the Gui elements to be cut off, just like the HTC Flyer.
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
I tried to install it. It responded with a parsing error. Probably because the Fire is 2.3 and the Photo Shop Touch is only compatable with HoneyComb/ICS
Thanks for the answer. Good to know; I'll just have to wait for a port of ICS to the KF before purchasing Photoshop Touch.
and also, why not just root it? it is really a rather good tablet for it's price once it is rooted.
then you CAN get the android market on it (without having to sideload etc)
The android market website does say that Photoshop Touch is incompatible with the Fire. It says that Photoshop Express is compatible (that one is in Amazon's appstore, but the Amazon appstore says it's not compatible!) but all those other 9.99 Adobe tablet apps say they're incompatible.
has anyone tried sideloading these? if so how did you download/pay for them?
I got it to run using a custom ICS rom. I don't know about side loading tho
It works pretty well on ICS, all gui elements fit thx to fit button in ICS. But you probably will have to sideload it since kf not officially supported
Fit button?

Well, I was curious as to see if this app worked on the KF. I don't know/care what you do, but to get anything done with a Kindle Fire, you MUST root it. If you have one of the old versions (where/when did you buy it) then it comes with a heavily modded android 2.3, which does no good for anything, so I suggest that you root it with the KFU, install TWRP, and load up Ice Cream Sandwich, or Jellybean on it. I have twa_priv's latest CM10 jellybean custom ROM with the leaked 4.2 Gapps installed, and it does wonders! If you think that you would prefer a more vanilla ROM, I would go with Hashcode's; it is really good too.
Anyway, back to your dilemma/question: can you run Adobe Photoshop mobile products? the answer is yes; however, (at least for me, as my KF is not cloaked as a Galaxy Nexus) the Play store says it is incompatible. So I decided to do a google search of the latest apk, and downloaded it. Once I moved it over to my KF, it took about a minute to install (quite long, so don't worry that it isn't doing anything). I opened it up, and it works just fine. No crashes or anything; and it is a very good app, I think, after just playing with it for about 10 minutes.
So your answer is yes: first root and ROM your KF, then google search the latest apk and install it.

Nexus 7-based rom for Kindle Fire?

Anyone know of any KF rom that would be closest to the experience found on Nexus 7?
Loving my Nexus 7 tablet, would like to get my KF at least in the proximity of that experience. CM releases have their own flavor, and I've even tried AOSP from lithium76, which seems semi-decent, but has issues and less dev focus now.
Instead of trying every rom, anyone have a recommendation?
Again, I want as close to Nexus 7 experience as possible, on my KF Love vanilla JB, at least as found on the Nexus devices.

Android 4.2 jellybean for kindle fire first gen 6.3.1, sorry cant post a link yet, just type in 'Install Android 4.2 on the original Amazon Kindle Fire - Liliputing' to google
This would help you a lot I would think.

Kindle Fire For Business

Hello all,
I was thinking of putting Kindle Fire HD's in my store for people to use. I already use iPads and have them Jailbroken to lock anyone down from changing/installing/deleting anything.
I use these enclosures, for the iPads, on the tables. And they make an enclosure for the original Kindle Fire, but I would be using the Kindle Fire HD. The iPad's are too expensive.
Now what can I do to keep users from accessing the settings and installing/deleting anything? Also no in-app purchases. Are there any mods or apps that can do this? I know the iOS can.
You can add a user and limit what they can get to.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire2 using xda app-developers app
You could use this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kytephone.guest&hl=en
Not sure of it works on the stock os or not since I'm running a standard kf2 on CyanogenMod.
Honestly not even sure of this is exactly what you are looking for.
Also- you can turn off in app purchases on cyanogenmod (aosp).. Again, not sure if it works on stock.
Not sure how savvy you are w android devices so unable to tell you if YOU can do it.
Edit: in a business environment you MIGHT be better off w the nexus 7

HD Widgets Works

I don't know how, but HD Widgets works just fine on my Fire TV. I've attached a screenshot (this is Nova Launcher). Too bad I can't do wallpaper as well.
I hate how Amazon had the nerve to remove widget support for all other launchers.
Nice find with the HD widgets thing!
Do I understand you correctly that you're using Nova Launcher and HD Widgets on a Fire TV box?
I use both on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Think they'd work on the stick?
I can confirm Nova Prime and HD Widgets work on my rooted AFTV with Rbox's mods. Was using Fired TV until I read these posts. No comparison. Now have an App Drawer, a Dock if I want it, and the ability to Drag icons around. Can't change wallpaper. Icons are resizable, can be dragged mid-grid and number Rows and Columns is adjustable. Icons and Labels can be edited. Haven't got around to trying Gestures and other features like Folders.

I am using Square Home Launcher Tablet version but the proper way for nova to work is to move around the app drawer icon etc.. with a mouse and add your shorcuts.
Then simply use remote because icons will be close to each other.
Correct?

This is the launcher I installed but haven't messed with on a couple of unRooted FireTV Stick's... Thanks for the heads up Patt2k.... Plan to install it on my Rooted FireTV's but was wondering how much can be done on a unRooted FireTV Stick. I gave the FireTV sticks as gifts so I won't get to play with them to often... But would like know if they have any limitations... I think LLama or MacroDroid can be use to make it launch seconds after the AFTV starts...
Have you tried to change the backgrounds & add widgets to the Square Home Launcher ?? Got any more picks of your latest setup ? I think either one, if not all launchers will need a mouse for moving stuff around since they are made for touch devices... Unless they are specifically made for the FireTV.
Has anybody tried HD Widgets on an unRooted FireTV or FireTV Stick ??

Yes.
Personally, I'm using a Logitech keyboard and mouse through a Unifiying dongle, which lets me attach both without using a hub: the dongle came with the mouse, and then I paired the keyboard with the dongle using my PC, because moving the dongle to the Fire TV. I've also found, interestingly, that this keyboard works with CWM Recovery and the bootloader menu.
To answer another question: any launcher will work without root, but it won't launch on boot, or come up when you hit the "Home" key, which means Fired TV is probably still your best bet if you lack root.

In my case I literally had an extra mouse (mice, actually) and keyboard lying around, and so attaching them to the Fire TV didn't involve any trouble or expense. However, I think anyone who would like the ability to use apps designed for a touchscreen is going to want to have a mouse available on occasion--and it's not like you need it for launching apps once you have Nova set up. Therefore, I don't see any advantage to a launcher that can be set up solely with the remote.

Developer preview announced for Android 5.0 Lollipop based Fire OS 5!!

I think that this is a great news to all of us, owners of the Amazon-Fire- Phone:
“…Fire OS 5, the next generation Android-based operating system that powers Fire tablets, Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire phone devices.” -Amazon
http://www.aftvnews.com/developer-p...droid-5-0-lollipop-based-fire-os-5/#more-7426

https://developer.amazon.com/public...10/Announcing-the-Fire-OS-5-Developer-Preview
Just last month, the FireOS of the Fire Phone received its upgrade to v4.6.1 (which is based on Android 4.4 KitKat), so I really think that this upgrade to Android 5.0 will more than likely be a welcomed arrival for many Amazon Fire device owners... And hopefully will stop the constant complaining, about the FireOS of the Amazon-Fire-Phone, of being out of date!!

Stop teasing me, Amazon.
Well, jk, the preview is limited to 6 & 7, for now. They don't have to release a preview for the Fire Phone since the tablets are far more important.
When FireOS 5 for tablets is done, I'm sure they will spend 2 hours pờớping out a version for the phone. Based on 5.0, they chose the best L version... *sigh*
It is true that Amazon has not mentioned yet which Fire device will get it first the FireOS-5, but something is happening and at least Amazon has begun to understand that it has to develop and update the FireOS of all it Fire devices!!!
I really hope, that although the Amazon Fire Phone has lagged a bit behind other phones, now could catch up other flagship cellphones !!
I guess there will not be bigger updates for fire phone anymore.
Amazon Germany already stopped selling this phone.

I´m quite sure i wouldn´t buy an "amazon" android product again.
I'm not sure that updating the base code to lollipop is going to help as long as fire OS doesn't radically change too. And it won't.

I agree, but remember that the FireOS is not and is not intended to be or copy the Normal Android System, that all other android cellphones already have...
So, althrough is true that the Amazon FireOS needs to evolve and add some new functions that currently not has, remember that is also true that updating to the new Lollipop will make the FireOS more reliable and more compatible to all new android APPs.
ART might be nice. Being able to use ' ok Google' in apps would be nice but that is activated in settings and Amazon's version may not support it.
Most of the other lollipop changes are cosmetic and some might be available in fire OS or through alternative launchers, time will tell. I would like to have a pattern lock screen. Swiping up and then entering a code to skip a Pandora track sucks. Especially while driving.

I replaced the lock screen with Microsoft Next Lockscreen from the play store. Just don't set up the system lock screen and next takes over. At this point, with nova and next, I just need navigation buttons and stock looking recents menu and I won't notice any difference.

Well, FireOS 4 was released for the Fire Phone months after it was for other Amazon devices. Maybe the fact Amazon hasn't included the Fire Phone in the list it's just that if they did, people would've assumed it'll be released for the Fire Phone at the same time as other more popular devices like the Kindle HDX.

True as in: they have to keep all the app developers happy. Happy as in: provide different platforms (tablet & phone) for monetization of [email protected] apps.
Although they have enough devices (all dem kindles) for consumers, it's easy to pööp out a rework of FireOS 5 once it's running somewhat stable on the tablets.
