In fastboot, you can only use fastboot commands. Choose fastboot from the HBOOT menu, and when connected to your computer, it should say "FASTBOOT USB." Then, you should be able to do a "fastboot devices," and your device should show up. Please provide the output of "fastboot getvar all" and we can better judge how to proceed.

That's not what I asked for, but it might be enough. You'll need to relock the device (fastboot oem lock) and then flash the 5.07.651.1 firmware.zip via RUU mode.
Here's the file you need to download, and place the file in the same folder on your computer from which you're running fastboot.
So, after relocking, at the command prompt reboot to RUU mode.
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Then flash the firmware zip.
Code:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
Once complete, the command prompt will come back, and you can reboot back to the bootloader.
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
At this point, you will have the stock recovery, and hopefully it'll boot into it. So, when you get back to HBOOT, choose the "RECOVERY" option. If all is well, you'll get the red triangle with exclamation point, which is the stock recovery. Press both volume buttons and the power button at the same time to bring up the menu, and choose the option to reboot the device now. Hold the volume down button immediately after choosing to reboot so you can get back into HBOOT.
From there, you just have to unlock again, and then you should be able to flash a custom recovery.
Make sure you are running these commands from the folder with fastboot.exe in it. Otherwise they will give you the error you mentioned in your OP.

This may sound dumb but im having a problem relocking the device. My computer is not registing my phone.

For the purposes of this exercise, you need to select "FASTBOOT". Once you select that, it should change from FASTBOOT to FASTBOOT USB if the drivers are installed correctly.
Nothing is supposed to open on your computer - I'm not sure what you mean by that. You have to open a command prompt, and navigate to the location of fastboot.exe on your computer, which you're presumably downloaded previously.

Im not sure what I meant either sorry its been a long day. So, okay I have the correct drivers because it does say FASTBOOT USB but when I try in that command i get an error message stating it's not recognize internal or external.

Again, you have to run the command from the folder with fastboot.exe in it. Are you doing that? Please provide a screenshot of the folder contents and the command prompt.

I dont think I am because this is literally what i have the phone plugged into my pc and then I have command prompt running.... so when you say i have to run the command from the folder...i guess i'm lost as in what folder since my phone is on the screen that says fastboot usb... sorry! noob completely!

You shouldn't be running anything related to adb. Just follow my instructions. Everything I said is for fastboot, not adb.

I really dont know what im doing wrong I downloaded the fastboot and then the filmware i put them both in one same folder and then when command prompt came up i got an error...idk what im doing wrong!

What do you mean when the command prompt came up? I asked for screenshots for this reason. Difficult to be able to determine the issue if you don't provide enough information.

Okay back to the start, I have both files in one folder....do I extract?

[Q] Soft-bricked my HOX, solutions exhausted

Hi guys,
Just wanted to put it out there that I'm totally new at this rooting, custom ROM thing, and I got excited which led me to fail the number ONE rule of backing-up your phone!
Anyways, here's the situation
- Rooted my HTC One X
- Tried to install a custom ROM (IceCold Jelly)
- Phone went into bootloop, after the pink unicorn screen
Some facts
- I can get into the bootloader
- When I plug the phone into the PC, PC makes a sound, but it does not recognize the phone at all
- PC detects a "fastboot" device, but no phone
- went through a few "How to save a soft-bricked" phone tutorial to no avail
- fastboot cmd stuff don't work
- i have boot.img, fastboot.exe etc all on my pc
- drivers and htc sync up to date
I'm sorry if its been answered, but in the bunch of threads I've looked at, everything revolves around being able to use the CMD and the PC actually detecting the phone. Couldn't find any way of fixing my phone, as I said above, the PC doesn't register that theres anything connected to it.
I'd appreciate some help, its been a couple of days, and having no phone is really really hurting!
I'm really really new at this, so I apologize in advance if I don't really understand the terminologies used!
Thanks in advance!

That's good, fastboot works.
Flash the boot.img from the rom you're trying to flash by putting it into your fastboot folder and running "fastboot flash boot boot.img" then "fastboot erase cache". Then boot into recovery and perform a full wipe then reflash the rom.

Are you sure you're typing it correctly? If "fastboot devices" works then those commands should also work.
Try just "fastboot erase cache", without quotation marks of course

Yeah ofcourse typing the exact same things.
Alright lets clear things up,
where should the fastboot folder be? and I type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" right after i type cmd into the windows search bar. Is there anywhereI should be running the cmd from? like the directory of the cmd?
also what boot.img file should it be? custom rom?
Thanks

You should be running the fastboot commands from the folder your fastboot file is in. Either open a command prompt and cd to your fastboot folder, or navigate to the folder in Windows Explorer and open a command prompt there by holding shift and right clicking and choosing "open command window here".
Your fastboot folder should be in your Android SDK, probably in the root of your C drive. It could be somewhere else though depending on how you set up fastboot and adb in the first place.
The boot.img you want to flash is the one inside the rom.zip you want to flash, this goes for all roms.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll keep trying and will let you guys know. I think the root of the problem is that I'm inputting the fastboot commands right as I enter the cmd prompt from the windows search bar.
Will keep you guys posted, thanks for the help so far. Don't have my phone on me this minute as its with my friend whos trying to fix it too, will get it back in the morning!
Alright,
I've tried it now, and now theres a different problem. When I try to get into recovery from the bootloader, a picture of a htc device and red triangle and exclamation mark appears. And the custom rom load screen no longer appears. PC still does not recognize the phone.

I'm not sure.
How do I install a custom recovery at this point? and how do I unlock my device via htc site. If you're talking about unlocked with operator, then yes, its an unlocked phone.
As far as I've read into this issue, I think the problem is that maybe installed the stock recovery but from a different RUU?

I think he means that have you unlocked your bootloader via the htcdev.com website?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
OP's first post states that he tried to install a rom, so his bootloader must be unlocked and a custom recovery must have been installed at some point.
@OP - all you have to do is download a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) then flash it using "fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img", then follow the steps previously explained to you in this thread.
Problem is though he says he rooted HOX he has no idea about unlocking bootloader at HTC Dev? So when he says he's rooted did he unlock the bootloader? He mentions he has an "operator" unlocked phone, and I think this is where he's getting confused. Otherwise suggesting further flashing will make a bad problem worse.
Also it sounds like he's trying to run CMD from start menu. He needs to run it from from where the fastboot file is located, or at least "point" to it in CMD.

Thanks, I really appreciate it, I think I might have to resort to this. How do we go about it? shall we talk about it via PM? I'm pretty busy this whole week, so we can do it on the weekends?
Looks like you have a stock recovery, try to install the correct RUU (stock ROM for your phone, manuals, can be found in a sticky post of the ROMs thread). So first get back to stock, then start over and read the f**king manuals very carefully. no offence.
If you don't know what you are doing, please don't start at all.

[Q] HTC One X (HELP)

Please Help,
I think my cousin has bricked my phone, I have tried everything and the phone will die soon as it wont switch offf.
Basically my phone has rooted and also the bootscreen unlocked, now my cousin didn't make a backup of my initial stock rom. so I am kinda stuck.
When I put the phone into boot via Power Button and Down Volume its comes to the white boot screen. When I Fastboot USB mode it says "SD Checking, Failed to open usb master", so how can i put this stock rom I found if my pc can't even detect the phone storage.
When I also go into my ClockworkRecovery and go into Mounts and Storage Menu > Mount USB storage, I get "unable to ums lunfile (no usch file or........ I thought maybe I could get the pc to recognize the phone sotrage via that way so I can put a ROM on the phone.
Phone has no ROM on it atm, I am slowly giving up.

Is there anyway someone would be really kind and use a voip and direct me or is the phone just totally dead now?
Ok, you can get into bootloader so your phone is not bricked. You are rooted, correct ?

Make sure you are in the "fastboot" folder that is on your desktop. In other words, the fastboot folder window is highlighted.
Hold the "shift" key on your keyboard and at the same time right click on empty space in the fastboot folder. Now you will get a menu, click on "Open command prompt here".
You should now have a fastboot terminal window and you can send commands to your phone using fastboot.
As "nogotaclue", said download ClockworkMod Recovery from Here . Put the downloaded recovery image in your fastboot folder. I would rename the downloaded recovery to "recovery_cwm". I do this because I find it easier to distinguish between recoveries that way.
Now go into your fastboot terminal window and type " fastboot flash recovery recovery_cwm.img " without the quote marks and then hit "enter".
Once you get a message saying that it succeeded type
" fastboot erase cache " hit "enter"
Now power off your phone reboot into bootloader and select recovery. If all is well you will be looking at Clockwork mod recovery 5.8.4.0.
Now you just need to get a ROM or a nandroid backup and you should be good to go....

Well I can enter the boot screen so thats a sign I guess, I am just waiting to charge the phone a little then do the process
So I'll recap what I have to do
1.)Hold Power Button + Bottom volume controller
2).Enters the BOOTSCREEN
3.)Scroll to FASTBOOT and press the power button on the FASTBOOT then (FASTBOOT USB) should appear
4.)Navigate to my C:\Users\Jon\Desktop\fastboot folder where fastboot.exe is and the recovery_cwm.img is
5.)Shift + Right Click open command prompt here blah blah
6.)In the CMD window type "fastboot flash recovery recovery_cwm.img"
7.)If succeeded, then the following "fastboot erase cache" hit enter power off phone.
8.)BOOTLOADER, recovery and CWM should be there.

You are pretty much there. When you have confirmed that you can reboot into recovery, power off and then reboot into bootloader / fastboot usb and from the fastboot terminal window type " fastboot getvar main".
Also type "fastboot oem readcid"
Post the result of those commands please

[Q] About system update

Hi all... I am from India. I bought htc one x from ebay. It is not Indian version. They are saying it is from middle east or something type that...
And also they opened box for carrier unlock and advised to not upgrade(syatem update). But one first day I got system update for 4.1.1 and I did. Phone goes in bootloop untill battery dead. Each time I apply charger I went in bootloop. I return it to seller and he solve the issue. Now today(after 4 months) I again check and there is again system update for 4.2.2. Please suggest that should I update. OR it will surely goes in bootloop since is not from my country. Or last system update was just a bad luck and should update.
Or should I first root it.
Is there any way for system backup. If i face some problem in update.
Also I dont know whether it is international or bounded with some carrier.
60 views but no help?????????
Hi HOX users/developers. Please give some suggestions. Have any one faced some problem when updated via OTA.

Should I suggest you, ask to seller as it was been advised you not upgrade system and seller known about the advice what he sold.
Is S-off harmful
I think this s-off (link given below) may make problem OR it is fine. Because I read somewhere that root and s-off make error in update.

Go to Oneplus website and download oxygen os version 3.2.4 OTA and flash that via adb sideload , also as a sidenote use your PC to boot into fastboot mode and try flashing the firmware that way if the first method doesn't work....

i can't flash via adb sideload because i have can't boot into recovery.
How can i flash into fastboot mode? what have i to tipe?
Plug phone into PC and type - adb reboot bootloader , this should enter fastboot mode then use the adb commands to flash the firmware which should be adb sideload oxygenos.zip just obviously rename the OTA zip file to oxygenos before running the command... Hope this helps buddy.
What were you doing actually? And is your bootloader unlocked?

Hi, if you hold down volume up and power button for at least 20 seconds and release, make sure you have downloaded universal adb drivers and op3 drivers also, when you have these run the tool, the tool I originally downloaded was corrupt, the unbrick tool must have the system.img, recovery img etc.... For it to work, you will know when it's connect as one line in the programme will change. I can send you the files needed if you send me your email address.

Go to blusparks kernel thread from there download the latest recovery. Boot your phone into fastboot, then flash that recovery. Boot into recovery then flash whatever you wish!

I've installed this tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
then manually booted the phone into fastboot mode
in the directory of Minimal ADB and Fastboot i've put the twrp-3.0.2-22-oneplus3.img and renamed the file into twrp
then i've flashed the file with this command: fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
once booted into recovery i've paste the cyanogenmod rom file into the phone and installed by the classic way (WIPE cache, sys, data, davilk//INSTALL cm file// OPTIONAL INSTALL gapps, kernel, su)
restart the phone, done!

Got my bootloader unlocked, trying to boot into TWRP but hit a speedbump?

So I got my bootloader unlocked so obviously fastboot drivers are working, I have the SU zip copied to my internal storage and the IMG file in my Minimal Fastboot folder location....
When I run :
fastboot boot "path to IMG".img
My command prompt just says "waiting for devices" and does nothing?
Do I run this command from while in bootloader mode? Power + Vol down ? When I have it plugged into my PC in this mode and I run "adb devices" it does't find my device? Does that mean I don't have the right drivers installed?
What am I missing here? Damn this phone is complicated.

You want fastboot boot twrp.img

I know the command I want, I'm asking where I run it from? Do i run it while my phone is in Android connected to my PC or do I run the command from fastboot while my phone is in the bootloader mode??? When I have my phone connected normally and run an "adb devices" it doesn't find my phone but obviously it recognizes my phone otherwise it wouldn't have been able to copy dePixel8 and unlock my bootloader.
My question is *where* do I run that command. As I said before, if I run it while my phone is powered up normally and connected to my PC it just says "waiting for devices". If I power my phone up into bootloader mode (power + vol up) my fastboot doesn't see my phone????

I guess what I am saying is how the heck do I boot into the TWRP IMG ? My bootloader is definitely unlocked, I have SU on my internal storage, I have the IMG in my minimal fastboot folder. I just need to know how the heck to boot into "recovery mode" using the :
fastboot boot "path to".img
If I run that command while my phone is connected normally with USB debugging enabled it just says "waiting for devices"
Am I missing something here...?

First off get rid of minimal. That is not your current problem, but you will have problems later. It is old, it doesn't know about our partitions or handle their larger size. Get googles
https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools.html
Put the TWRP img in the same folder, skip the path

You need to follow the steps I gave you. You need su2.79 , and rc1 on your internal storage. Then you need TWRP rc1 boot image on your computer. Put it in your platform tools folder or wherever you got your other firmware. Put phone in bootloader mode, then open a command window where you have TWRP boot image saved , type in fastboot devices, to make sure computer is seeing the phone, then the command should be fastboot boot TWRP.img, then install rc1 off your phone storage, then boot to system once, then boot back to recovery and install su 2.79 sr3

OK I figured it out, while the phone is booted into Android you have to actually issue the command to reboot it into the bootloader mode otherwise it won't detect the phone (at least it wouldn't on my PC)
I ran this command from my minimal fastboot folder (shift + right click -> open command prompt)
I then typed this:
adb reboot bootloader
Then once it is rebooted into bootloader mode issue the
fastboot boot .img command
It then rebooted into TWRP, and I was able to flash the SU zip

Thanks man, I figure other people might run into these problems so I might as well post about them. If I booted directly into the bootloader my PC wouldn't recognize the phone, if I issued the command to reboot it would. Weird...but whatever, I'm unlocked and rooted....
THANK YOU!
