Were the failed attempts FOTA or flashtool?
Simply Curious.

I had the same problem and the solution was updating using pcc on computer.

[Q] Having trouble trouble installing OTA .244 firmware update for Xperia ZL C6506

I am trying to install the OTA update .244. It downloads and attempts to install but I always get a "could not install update" message. I have the C6506 model of the xPeria ZL. I am rooted on stock .423 firmware currently with boot loader still locked (if that makes a difference). I was hoping to update and still keep root by using Voodo Root keeper(if necessary). Does anyone have any idea what could be causing the install to fail? Thanks in advance. :crying:

I used to receive that same message when trying to install the OTA for can't remember which build. Anyway my phone was rooted with a locked bootloader but I had made some changes to the System\Apps with a few tweaks which I figured that was why mine was failing to update via OTA.
Just make a backup of your phone and flash the firmware with Flashtool, it takes 3 minutes and you can re-root the phone easily after.
It takes about 10 min total....

When rooting, if you looked at the instructions, you will need the FTF of the 423 to be able to flash the Kernel.

Brothers
Today i received the jellybean bean update via OTA it was 367mb i download it but when i tried to install my phone rebooted and andriod icon came something started but it stops everytime and phone turns on and shows could not install software version try again..
If you modified your /system partition (e.g. removed bloatwares, rooted, installed Xposed, etc.) the OTA update will fail because it may try to update app or components you modified. In that case, you can update only through PC Companion/SUS...

to check your phone rooted or not --- use Rootchecker APP
for Bootloader - connect your device to your pc and check it via flashtool

Well, if you have root access and are getting this error it's veeeery likely something changed in your system partition in a way that makes OTA fail. In that case you will need to do a full update though Sony PC Companion/SUS, updating that way will wipe your /system partition and install a fresh one (you'll lose root, keep that in mind)
If you don't have root access and keep getting this error, try clearing Update Center app data before updating, unrooted devices should work with OTA updates...

It depend on which KK version you are using. You should use towelroot (v20A) or adb sideload (v20B), please read more at http://forum.xda-developers.com/optimus-g-intl/help/how-to-root-lg-optimus-g-e975-kitkat4-4-t2834981

I used Framaroot to unroot after failing with the other root/unroot options. Then I updated via computer using "mobile support tool". OTA update did not work for me!
And have been using 4.4.2 (V20a EUR OPEN) without bugs (that I am aware of ) for about a week now.

I had problem using the mobile support tool, turned out it did not work on usb 3.0 ports, switched to a 2.0 port and then it worked, so if anyone still cant update with the supporttool then try to hardreset your phone and make sure to use a 2.0 usb port,

[Q] Help with rooting phone

I have an LG G3 on T-Mobile, running android 4.4.2 and my software version is D85110r. I downloaded and installed Stump Root and when I load the app it says "Device is already Rooted". Then I remember I had previously rooted the phone last summer when I got it. But I'm having issues with several apps not working because of root permission. So then I download and install SuperSU and when I run it, it gives me the message, "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it." It then says something about if you have android 4.3 you need to re-root your phone. How do I proceed? Do I need to un-root my phone and then re-root? Thanks for any help you can provide!
Anyone?
same here. I am not on 4.3 but still getting the same message. Fix?

Hello! I had no problems rooting my F400k with this root tool.. I also tried rooting with Stump but it failed many times.. I suggest format your phone then try this root tool. Look at number 5 of this post.
Attached is the root tool. Good luck

This thing does not work as of JANUARY 17. The phone does not go into recovery mod, but just restarts once you click run.bat file

You've flashed other root tools like Stump, etc.. right? It probably left some files behind after unrooting.. Factory reset and try that root tool again.. I've always used it and rooting was a breeze!:fingers-crossed::good: If you have updated to the latest firmware then maybe rooting isn't possible at the moment. Try downgrading to the previous version you had after you've factory resetted and used that root tool.. Good luck mate!

Xperia System Update

Hello. I am looking to update the phone because Xperia System Update has sat as a notification for almost a month now. Model number is E6853, Android version 6.0.1 and Build number 32.2.A.0.253. Can someone tell me how to go about doing this? It's been a while since I rooted the phone and honestly forgot just about everything because I followed a guide when I did it instead of using my own knowledge.
Since your fone is rooted, you'll have to 'rebuild' the Rom to include root access and possibly recovery. A search in the dev forums should give you some pointers. Unfortunately, I'm still being lazy and my Z5P is still not rooted...

FIRST put supersu (flashable zip) (SR2 of 2.78) in your SD CARD
DOWNLOAD your build (ftf) file as per country (or region) from
https://xpericheck.com/device/E6853
ORRRR ( Flashtoot.net)
you can use FLASHTOOL's XPERIFIRM (see fotos) / browse to your device and select build to download you .305 and flashtool will compile original ftf file and make it ready for your to flash! / switch off device, connect it in flashmode and perform clean flashing of .305 (as attached)
once flashed, now u need to flash kernel
download E6853.IMG from https://mega.nz/#F!KwZhjLIK!uNbDzR6lCXMaaW7jKFS1WQ!WpZAkLZC ( thanks to @KbaB.BroS)
connect device in FASTBOOT mode and select kernel to FLASH and flash E6853.img
boot , on sony logo, press volume up key, it will take u to recovery, install from zip and flash the superSU zip from sdcard.
once done, wipe delvik cache (optional)
reboot
DONE

Unroot
So I decided I didn't really need the phone rooted any longer and I hit the unroot option in SuperSU. Now how do I got about updating? The update fails on install every time and gives an error about the root info of the phone.

Hey Yasu,
Is there any way to get rid of that nag from the Xperia Software Update service?
Also, if we update the software do we lose root and all other customizations we've installed?
Thanks,
MW
