From ATT Unilimieted data (BS throttling) to Tmobile unlimited..any feedback? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Unilimieted is german for Unlimited! LOL
Hi!
I have been on ATT for a long time and still have their unlimited data plan.
I was hoping for feedback on Tmobiles unlimted data plan.
I currently pay about $85 with taxes etc for my plan (and that is because of a $20 discount I get from work!) but as you may now, ATT BS Unlimited means that after 5GB my speed drops to about .5MB!
So I dont want to give any more money to such a BS Bullying company...so I was surprised to read about a $70 plan by Tmobile that offers NO speed drops.
Is this for real?
I was about to get a Note 3 by Tmobile to use on ATT (yeah because of another BS move by att locking the bootloader) and now I am thinking of just changing companies when my contract expires next year.
So any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks!

It's real.
There was a problem with speed some of us had, but they got it fixed. If you have good Tmobile coverage in your area, they are a good choice.

The only real reason to be on Att is if you don't get good coverage with t mobile. Other than that they are great. I am on their 2.5 gb plan because I am dirt poor

I went by their store today and I really liked what they are offering so I am going to check at work what kind of coverage coworkers get (work sucks for ATT mostly) and I am dropping ATT. I dont care if I have to pay $205 as I was told today to cancel early. I rather do that then pay for their ****ty service tactics for a whole extra year!
My Note 2 is unlocked so I should be able to use it with TMobile as well.
Thanks guys!

During football season, my use skyrockets, due to sunday ticket. Over 8 gigs last month

I used 24 gb so far this billing cycle. Still have another 5 days till it ends
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk

Oh yeah I am never close to that! My biggest was 12GB and I was in Puerto Rico on vacation so my phone was my internet at the time, but normally I am from 5 to 8GBs so yeah, I am for sure changing. Just need to decide if I end ATT early and pay the fee. Also if I keep the Note 2 I have and use it with Tmobile or sell it to try getting a Note 3..etc.

I ended att contract early due to their bs throttling and switched to tmob. Couldn't be happierr, just do it already .

Just not sure if I should sell my Note 2 and get the Note 3 from them using their payment plan thing which of course ends up paying a lot more for the phone than buying it used i guess, or just keep the Note 2 and use it with them. Guess that is all I need to figure out

Sell your Note 2 and just buy a "like-new" or new T-Mobile Note 3 off of eBay. That's what I did when I made the switch from AT&T over to T-Mobile.
I just bought another brand new S4 off of eBay for $455 and no tax. T-Mobile's full price is $600 (I just checked) but a few weeks ago when I bought it, it would have been like $650 from T-Mobile directly. I don't get why people would finance through T-Mobile and end up paying extra when you can buy the exact same thing on eBay (brand new) and easily save $150 - $200. Then you don't have that higher bill either. This is what I do each time I get a new phone. I sell the old one, and then I just pitch in the $150 - $200 required to get the newer/latest and greatest model.

Buying a T-Mobile phone off ebay is a risky option. You could end up buying a phone that was on the EIP plan and ends up not being paid by the seller/owner of the phone you just bought.
I ended up buying a N3 off EIP and will sell my current iphone to pay some of it off . Then I will pay off the rest of the balance in a month or two.
I have read some horror stories about blacklisted T-Mo phones that were sold to unsuspecting buyers. I was not going to risk it.

Well I normally just check the IME. Like one local seller was doing one cheap, checked the IMEI and it has not been paid fully so...no go for me

Eghh, I just buy brand new sealed phones off eBay. Check the IMEI then when it comes in. I've never had problems buying from reputable sellers on eBay.

Amazon Deal is Back! Touch Pro 2 for $149 / $119

Save money with Amazon and get the Touch Pro 2 for over 60% off at $149.99. T-mobile.com sells the same phone for $350 with a new activation and/or a 2-year upgrade. What a rip!
I dont get the logic with t-mobile either but if you were on the fence with the touch pro 2 and wanted to make the jump, this def is for you. Free fast shipping too. Hopefully this deal will last longer than last time when Amazon kept it up for only one day or so. This is a great steal if your out of contract and/or you need a new line. In this economy every dollar saved is worth it
http://www.amazon.com/Touch-Pro-Phone-Mocha-T-Mobile/dp/B002LITRMQ/ref=helpuu-20
You can also get $30 off by signing up with their rewards card for a grand total of $119. It doesn't say if ever have to use it lol. You shouldn't have to pay more than 150 for the TP2 anywhere.
has anyone try to buy this and then cancel? would be 150+200 ETF which is 350. would I have to pay for the first month? looking to buy one for ATT usage.
Just called Amazon and its not available to current tmobile customers and you can't have had tmobile service in the last 90 days.
I feel like screaming.
I posted a similar deal here:

And iambored, you know no 3G with a Tmo on ATT right?
you might have to pay activation, but not sure about the first month. craigslist is also your friend

Galaxy Note II Off Contract Availability

Guys, where are you getting your Note off contract? Hopefully this thread can help members in the same situation get a galaxy note 2.
I have a pre-paid plan and do not want to be locked into any 2 year plan.
So far, it seem like only T-mobile stores are selling them for $650 + tax and that's if they want to sell it to you. What about Bestbuy? Walmart? etc.

I am currently switching from Sprint so I'm not a customer. My local T-mobile store sold it to me off contract but I had to buy a $10 pre paid card to get it activated at the store. I had already ordered a micro sim activation kit online and was planning on activating it myself.
I think it's on a store by store basis.

I bought mine at a T in Albany NY. First I went in to said they had 2 in stock. I said I would like one and will be paying retail. Suddenly the 2 they had in stock had been shipped to another store. I asked if they could call the store to se if they were in stock. The store they shipped them to had already sold them The next store I went to said they had one. I waited for him to get the phone out before I said "I think I'll pay retail". Now I have one and love it.

Yeah I'm wondering if there's any other places that I can buy the phone off contract and maybe even avoid sales tax (via online purchase). Everyone is paying about 700 for theirs.
I've visit one store yesterday but all they had were Gray only. I believe the white one are rare at the moment. They were saving it for new customers or those that are extending their contract.

Not sure how that's cheaper... from a T-Mobile store it costs $649.99 off-contract, it's $703 off wirefly. Even with California tax (8.75%) that makes the Note II $707 from the T-Mobile store. Not to mention that wirefly charges tax to CA, so... for me the wirefly price would be $764...
But yeah, my store wouldnt sell to me, as they were saving it for new and upgrading customers.
Full Purchase Price at T-Mobile Store
I purchased my GN2 yesterday at my local T-Mobile store in the white color 16GB configuration for $683.00 after taxes. I have a SanDisk Ultra 64GB microSDHX memory card class 10 for $50 from Amazon inside it....The only problem I had was when I wanted to purchase it the sales rep at the T-Mobile store wanted me to use my upgrade and I said because I buy my phones outright and he had this shocked look on his and I was like OK....But I did purchase it with no problem though and it took all of ten minutes for me....
Got mine at the T-Mo store last night. Was just over $700 with tax. Wirefly doesn't charge tax in my state but they want I think $729 off contract for it so it was still cheaper to get it from T-Mobile and note have to wait.
Called and visited several Tmo stores. All stores had stock. Most stores had both white and grey in stock. Most said their manager would not let them sell at retail while it was "new". From the way the conversations went, I think I could have talked most stores into selling me one.
One store agreed to let me purchase a white one but not a grey one.
None of the stores seemed to be running out of stock.
$649+tax.

Exactly, there's a coupon that brings it down to $704 or something on wirefly, but still, rather have it now than wait 2-3 days for $3 savings or so.

Yeah, it's up to the managers and the two near me are greedier than most i guess.
I woke up at 10:00 in the morning and called my closest store and they had 3 Titanium Grey in stock for New activations or upgrades so I thought I would be out of luck but I went in anyways and I "upgraded" my pre-paid account to the Note 2. That is funny as hell cause that really should not be considered an upgrade as I already have to pay full price for my phones... I took em to school on that one! LOL
Yea they don't get commission when they are sold outright. At least that's the way it was when I sold phones for RadioShack.

Not only commissions but if they run out and someone wants to come in to start a new plan then they also lose a new subscriber. I wish I could afford it at $700 but thats like paying $30/mo for two years just for the phone.

The funny thing is that some people can afford to pay a monthly bill of $100.00/month or more but if you buy your phone outright you cut that monthly fee in half and that is what pays for your phone plus more... No contract for me! :good:

What do you mean by "mention association with Student rate"
can you explain it a little more? i got the galaxy s4 a day before the price dropped to 99$ can i still get this discount on my phone? like a 50$ card or something and the 10% off
Wish &^*%(% TMo would make up their mind.
Right after its release they told me that their days of discounting a phone with a contract or extension were gone forever when dealing directly with them, but for now, third party vendors were still being permitted to so. Got mine from Costco because of that.
Is this with contract, or is it the prepaid thing. I have been waiting for the S4 to become $100 with data plan. We use the data and I don't see myself canceling the contract so paying $100 for the phone with data seems like a better deal to me than paying $600 plus data for the phone. Does this also include activation fee and if so, can it be waived? How much is one paying with this deal.

Just picked up a Galaxy S4 yesterday at T-Mobile. $99 down (plus tax on the full retail cost of the phone - $579 at the moment) brought me up to about $146 at the store and a promise of $20/month for 24 months. Is it just me or does it seem a lot more expensive to get a phone through T-Mobile these days?

Per my earlier post - yes. Go to 3rd party vendors. Walmart just advertised $199 with a $50 gift certificate . That would be new line or two year extension - no $20/month BS.

No. You're basically buying the phone outright, but for $99 down with the remaining 480 spread out over 2 years with no interest. If you were to buy the S4 outright at AT&T or Verizon, etc. then you'd have to pony up the total $579 right then and there.
Can't find any info on this, so anyone with personal experience: Can you take this deal if you're on the $30 pre-paid monthly plan? T-Mobile just posted a simaler offer on their Facebook page today....
did this expire?
Still think you are not getting it folks or I am missing something.
Why buy from TMo when you can get a much better deal elsewhere (unless you would not be eligible for the two year extension requirement and you don't want a new line)?
I was eligible but TMo would not deal - they even suggested I go elsewhere for the phone which I did. Then I sold my Note 2 (too big for my pocket - especially on my bike) for over twice what I paid for the S4..

Yeah, but the way the plans were before, you could pay the up front cost of the phone, sign a 2 year contract, and either get the phone without much additional cost with the plans you intended to keep anyway, or pay a $200 ETF which in this case would put you completely out of contract with a Galaxy S4 for $299. With the way things are now, you pony up an extra $280 over the course of two years (or up front, or at any point in between up front and two years) to reach the same state you could have reached for $299 + tax + activation before.

Guys, its basically the same thing. The only difference I see is that before this change happened, if you knew you were going to be in a two years contract and it didn't matter to you, you could buy the phone for $199. Now you just have to buy it full price.

You are basically right as to buying it from TMo. My point is don't - you could get if for $199 with 2 year extension but now this is down to $149 elsewhere.
TMo said they will be reining in the third party sellers soon so they can't do it anymore, so take advantage of it now.

I have personally used this deal with the galaxy S4 - I signed up on the phone to confirm with a rep that discount was applied properly. I pay $54.00 for unlimited talk text and 2.5GB of data + $20 of monthly payment for the phone. I have one line on my plan. Hope this helps
T-Mobile paid off my old EIP and put the 99 plus taxes on my bill coming next month. Came out to 151 down on my bill next month. Free Express shipping, and also gave me 10 dollars off a month for 6 months on my bill.
Gotta love T-Mobile. Been with them 7 years.
That was from just talking to the right rep. No specific deal
It's all about talking to the right rep. Last time I called with a billing question, I ended up speaking with someone who didn't really know what was going on instead of trying to make my case I just hung up and called back and spoke with a super helpful rep after.

[Q] It it advisable?

Since Tmobile has discontinued selling devices at subsidized prices anymore, let's say, if one were to buy Note 3 from Wirefly or Staples for $299 with a new line on a classic plan (they are still allowing that), and cancel the service after 14 days and pay the ETF of $200 plus the activation $35 (which can be waived) and first month's service fees $80 (minimum), then the total comes to $579 or $614. Has anyone tried this? Will Tmobile blacklist imei once you cancel the contract?

I think y'all are gonna be disappointed whoever tries. Carriers got themselves covered on this. Best thing is tmobile's monthly plan.

I would do this myself but I'm out of the country on vacation. But someone should just call tmo and just ask that. But if you early term and pay etf they can't blacklist your phone. But there is still the thought if you do early terminate you may have to pay out the phone possibly. Idk.
A few years back when I worked for one of the major carriers, if you did not return the phone when you canceled within the grace period then you would have to pay the full price of the phone and if you didn't then they would send the bill to collections. This phone is awesome but not worth the harassment of debt collectors and getting your credit score screwed.
I know on amazon you had to keep the service for 6 months. If you didn't you had to return the phone or pay the full price.
Sent from my SM-N900T using xda app-developers app
I read up on all TM stipulations about 2 weeks before the note 3 came out. I'm not sure about buying the phone on amazon but if you buy it though TM, you are basically refinancing the phone. You're paying a little more each month (I think for me it's like 15 it varies depending on how much you put down), plus you get the jump program included in your insurence. Also if you cancel, you will have to pay off the remaining balance on the phone's "loan".
OP this is exactly how I got both my note 2. Tmo had just stopped the classic plan. Walmart still offered it though. I signed up then the very next day switched to a value plan, paid the 200 fee ( on one of them because I sweet talked the Rep and got the other waived) and was set. I got me and the wife note 2s for 600 bucks total (this is when they were still the hot phone)

Call AT&T Retentions for Note 4 deal!!!

After giving my T-Mobile Note 4 to my brother for his birthday, I tried to see if I could get a deal from Ma Bell themselves. I was successfully. They price matched the T-Mobile variant at $749.46. I did AT&T next at 12 month of $41.30, and received a credit on my bill for $77. Its not the greatest deal, but hey its better than nothing, right? Not too mention I plan on trading the device in after 12 months, so I will only have paid $418.
Just thought I'd share. Give it a shot, you have nothing to loose.

Yep, I've gotten 3 free phones ($600), 4 contracts given an early upgrade by up to 6 months, and probably $1000 in bill discounts by calling them over the last 7 years being polite, nice, and just asking them if they can help with stuff. Not happy with the whole locked bootloader garbage but they've always hooked me up on that end. Just call and tell them what's up and ask them if they think this is possible because you like AT&T and at least want to give them a chance to keep a customer, unless you owe them money or have burned them in the past most of the time they'll do their best to give you what you want. Just be polite, funny, and nice is they key. I called once and talked to a lady from an Atlanta AT&T call center and we ended up talking about how amazing her fried chicken recipe was and how her kids/grand kids loved it and I got a free phone ($200 waved) and 5 months early on my upgrade. It's crazy but it works lol. Good luck

Exactly. I was very polite and thanked him. I mentioned how my bill has never been late and is always paid in full. I was actually quite lucky because they didn't have to do that.
While I'm all down for unlocked bootloaders and root, the truth is, I tinker with my phone too much then. Its gets tiring having to switch roms every week. So I think I'm just gonna do my own thing and call it a day. While I fully support those going to the T-Mobile route, I just found that too much of a hassle. That and very rude T-Mobile staff.
Not only have I had retention credit me to help out a bit. I had them upgrade my wifes line a year early and next day her a new 32gb white s4 before our honey moon last year for free.
I see Sprint has the Edge for $840 as opposed to ATT's whopping $945! Going to call Retentions later and see if they will price match. Thanks for the heads up OP.
Let us know if you were able to get one out of contract for less than full price! I tried 3 times already on phone and chat; retention was ready to let me cancel rather than give me anything to stay. I have always been extremely nice on the phone and usually get deals... but am not getting anything to lower the price of this phone.

Technically this one out of contract as it was on AT&T Next's program. Instead of paying $825.99, they gave it to me for $749.46 (T-Mobile's note 4 price).

Just called ATT and they gave me a $100 credit. Which is cool since the difference between the Sprint Note Edge and the ATT one is $105.00. So I guess that's the way they price match since they can't actually change the price of the phone?

Are you also on the Next plan? I have found that CSR shut down as soon as I tell them I want to buy it outright and not on Next.

Yes im on the Next plan, if you're buying it outright you should be able to find a good deal online. You may want to try back after you buy your phone.

Do you all know if you on Next plan and you payed off your phone and you want to get new device you have to trade phone you just payed off. Loose , loose on your end. Better is to buy phone some where else for lower price because on Next plan you will end up paying full price on phone and do not get phone. You only trade in your phone if you want a new phone at 12 months. If you keep it 20 (making payments) the phone is yours to do whatever with. Also with my $25 a line discount it only ends up being $19 a month for my note 4 so I end up paying $380 over 20 months to own it free and clear vs $750 buying it outright.

How did you ends up paying $19 a month ? if you choose 18 months Next plan payment you ends up paying $34.42 x 18 = $619 plus you need to trade your phone. $25 line discount is for access not for a phone. If you agree to 2-years contract you pay $15+$25(discount) =$40. I and my wife (accountant) calculate all options and best way is to get phone on some other side then on Next plan. You will ends up paying full price on phone whatever plan and phone you choose from At&t..

I completely agree with you. Next is AT&T's way of charging you the same but making you feel better OR to get you to change phones all the time and give them the old phone back which they can sell for more. The best way is to get the phone out of contract and pay $15 a month under the "bring your own device" discount. My goal is to get the phone out of contract for less than the crazy $825.99 that AT&T is asking for.
Sample Calculation For All Options:
Note 4 out of contract ($825.99) + 2-yr of service with bring your own device discount ($15 x 24 mo) = $1185.99
Note 4 with Next 12 ($41.30 x 20 mo) + 2-yr of service with Next discount ($15 x 24 mo) = $1185.99
Note 4 with 2-yr contract ($299.99) + 2-yr of service with no discount ($40 x 24 mo) = $1259.99
Sample Calculation for Next 12 to make yourself feel better but not really:
Note 4 with Next 12 and service discount ($16.30 x 20 mo) + 2-yr of service with Next discount ($40 x 24 mo) = $1185.99
Let's also consider that you turn in your phone at 12 months like AT&T wants you to; you end up paying $495.60 out of pocket and end up with nothing. AT&T, on the other hand, has to pay for the rest of the bill for the device, which is $330.39. If they could sell the Note 4 in a year for more than $330.39, which of course they could, then they are making even more money of you. You may wish to argue that under the "make yourself feel better" option, you're only paying $16.30 a month so after one year you pay much less than $495.60; great deal, right? No, you just paid the rest under the service plan. AT&T will gladly take your money.
Not sure where your calculations came from but why are you adding the discount to the bill instead of subtracting. I pay 41.30 for next 12 on my note 4 but with my 25off discount i pay 16 a month for my phone. 16x12=192. After 12 months i would only need to pay 192 and then i can turn my phone in and get a new one with no penalties and if i keepy my phone i end up paying 320. The access discount is only appied when you are on the next plan or buy outright so it needs to be considered in your calculations because if you sign a contract your bill jumps +25. For 2 note 4s on next 12 plus 15gb family share with unlimited calling and text i only pay 180 a month. Just playing with the at&t cart i added 2 smartphones to the cart with 10gb share and on contract and the price is 180. I pay exactly what new customers pay but with the option to upgrade early.

Exactly. I plan on doing this.
Anyone else get a deal through retentions?
I did this, I was pissed the ATT version was more expensive than the Tmobile version. Called retentions and complained, they have me a $180 credit. I since sold the ATT version and got a Tmobile one anyway.

Let me clear your mind. The $25 discount is for your line which they normally charge you $40. With the discount you pay $15 instead of $40. Your $41.30 payment stay the same no change what so ever.
