[WORKING FIX:] Unbricking AT&T S III QHSUSB_DLOAD, 4.3 OTA - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I managed to brick my device last night when switching modems via recovery.
Would somebody be kind enough to go to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2439367 and follow the steps to build a 4.3 debrick image?
All you need to do is flash this https://www.copy.com/s/1ggUuyIqHUrF/bootloader_backup.zip
Borrowed from the original thread:
"Once you have flashed it you will find a file called debrick.img on your internal sdcard. It should be 128MB in size. (if you zip it, it will be much smaller!) Upload this to your preferred file host (I recommend Dev-Host)."
I am willing to make a donation for your time. Thank you! :good:
Update: It works

You're the ****! :victory:
Now off to the local store to grab a new SD card just in case, as from what I learned I will need a minimum of 16GB in order for this to work.
I'll keep it posted
Thanks again!
update: I think there may been a type on the script I posted, the output file should have been 128 MB, not KB.
Let me see what I can do from here...

Why are more people not using this method?

Yes

I posted how to do this and the images a few days ago http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47911843&postcount=165 also 128mb is not needed, the first 80MB is sufficent to get the partition table, all 3 sbl's aboot rpm modem and the tz partition. Also note, this method does not work when you flash a I747U bootloader to a I747M or vice versa. This method also does not work if you flash a different devices bootloader to your boot partitions.

Yay, it worked!!
I grabbed a new Sandisk 32gb microSD class 10 on my way home as my 4GB was a no go, then managed to boot into Download Mode on the first try and I am in the process of odin'n back to 4.3 OTA.
Thanks to everyone, specially loserskater for taking the time to upload his debrick 4.3 image.

DDLA3 Update [ sd card issues :'( ]

Today there was another update for our phone, more info in the attachment.
Myself (and some others) got a sd card removed error back on my phone after the update, while many others who updated didn't get it though.

oh, is that so? thanks for the info by the way.
NP, I got it twice within one hour after update and then once again after I restarted the phone, if this happens again, I will try a fat32 format from PC and then revert back here with the results.

I updated my phone to DXLA1, the latest firmware in my region (Philippines), and am experiencing the same problem posted here. What I did was to downgrade the firmware to DXKL2... I hope Samsung gets to notice the bug and act on it right away.
Please tell me how dis you downgrade? Flashing through odin?
BTW, I got the same error again and I did a fat32 format, its all fine until now.

I've updated my galaxy y for ddla3 through gprs data and haven't face sd card prob. though previous updates ddla1 some how messed with go launcher and it asks permission to choose launcher every time apps are changed. by the way I like new phone answering interface its convenient.
also to mention that I did faced sd card prob with very first galaxy 3(ddxk) update and got corrected by using samsung sd card, my previous sd card(sandisk) got corrupted after update.
Lucky you.
Btw, the new phone answering interface was introduced in DDLA1 right?
No visible changes in this update

to all the xda users,
pl keep up informed bout whats new feature in the latest updated so that one can decide to update on the basis of utility, for example ddla3 used up good amount of space and automatically updated maps and gmail which should be users discretion. xda can help with such updates in advance and choosing the right updates.
thanks for the info
to everyone...
there is nothing like ddla3 update is some more faulty or anything... i have regularly updated my phone and currently running ddla3... no issues detected (atleast till now)... its just like other updates... there is only slightest chances for sd card bug to creep in... like it happened in earlier updates to some phones.

[SOLUTION] So your Marvelc is refusing to flash a ROM

Okay I've been getting reports of roms not flashing right for the marvelc. So I set out for a solution and found one I believe. One issues with some roms, is that people have been doing it wrong since they got the phone. From Gsm recovery to even gsm roms. They used cmtd a very bad idea ect ect. So now, id like to present my method for fixing all of this. First, soff your hboot, then upgrade and unlock. install custom recovery and wipe all of the partitions. Then reboot to fastboot and flash the recovery posted bellow. Report back with any findings
http://goo.im/devs/simonsimons34/marvelc/cm9/tests/recovery.img
I was just wondering if you could give step by step instructions to flashing the recovery.img. File.
Download it. Rename to recovery.img. Place in the same directory as fastboot and adb.
Put your phone into fastboot (adb reboot bootloader).
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Simonsimons34 I have tried many things but this CWM actually let me flash a rom your great!! thanks so much and this worked for me
Glad to hear it this recovery has all the bugs with flashing and backups fixed so you should be good for the life of the phone

To flash the RUU, You must Relock the bootloader first.
I can't be much help on returning the phone to s-on, other than to tell you it would take an image (before you s-off'd) and some jtag kung-foo skills
Not something easy.

p.s the rom i have is a stock rooted rom, of course custom kernel i added too, i can fool the uscc store upon return of the device except the phone info on lock bar ect says virgin mobile, i think its cool, but its gonna be hard to pull that one off i think lol
If you flash the RUU for your carrier it will give you a stock rom kernel and recovery so it won't say virgin mobile

Yeah this is what it says in flashing instructions:
For Odexed, Deodexed, Kernels, and Modems use CWM or TWRP to flash.

For Factory Image use Odin.

And then you put it on the root of your sd card then boot phone into recovery (thats if your rooted and have a custom recovery , like cwm or twrp ) (get into recovery by having phone off press volume up and home center button and power button all simultaneously until I see the galaxy note II as creen let go of power but hold volume up and home buttun until your in recovery , then let go of buttons ) then go to install if in twrp navigate to the root of your sd card and selct the modem zip and press flash after that reboot and you should be good.

Thanks, I don't know whether or not there is a custom recovery, as I just got the phone and it came with the Jedi rom, not sure if that is cwm or twrp. And I've never rooted a custom rom or other zip before but this post certainly helps.
How do you put it in the root of SD Card? The internal one in the Note 2 right? Is there a specific folder I put it in?
And which file am I taking from the modem download? Just the .bin? Do I rename it?

Do yourself a BIG favor... slow down!!!! Start by doing a LOT of reading. Search button works great here... use it! You've never done any of this before, and if you do something wrong you are going to be posting "My phone won't boot" or some other thread that says your phone is dead.
Since you just bought the phone and it has a custom ROM, it has a custom recovery. Start by making a backup in recovery, and save to your sd card so you have something to fall back on.
Don't be silly an be too anxious and brick your device.
NO problem, if you have the jedi rom I can guarantee u have a custom recovery so just go ahead and take the steps I told u and u should be good . Having any trouble Pm me or watch some Youtube videos .

What do you even mean by, "in recovery"? Inside the CWM or TWRP?

Based on your questions, DO NOT ATTEMPT to Flash the modem. You need to read up much more BEFORE YOU START.
One, wrong flash and you are screwed. Make sure you back up your EFS partition before you start so you dont loose your IMEI.

I don't think so. Recovery reads the card fine, and when I flashed back to my earlier room, I can see my SD card fine. Besides, I have 20+ gbs of stuff on my SD card, don't feel like backing up and wiping to have it not change anything. I believe the path is incorrect on the rom.
EDIT: I see there is a new version called final. I'll download and try flashing that and see if it fixed the SD issue.

I apologize, I'm on a metered connection and can't eat 4+gb this moment. I'm working on getting you my nandroid images for booting.

There's already a thread for this stuff - maybe you should've posted your request there?

Thank you tons!
I obviously can't help with the metered connection but if you need a place to upload, just let me know. I have a few servers at the ready.:victory:

Moderator moved thread (Sorry about that....old member, new poster!)
All other threads are for non-us variants. With everyone getting their phone this week from initial preorders, I thought it would be good to have a dedicated thread. Once it's up, we can close this and add it to the other image/recovery thread.

I'm referring to the thread titled [STOCK] Guides and Stock Backups/Recovery/OTA/RUU.
Nowhere does it indicate that thread is only for non-US variants. It only appears that way now because no one has uploaded anything for a US variant. I'd still upload it there so everything stays centralized.

I have requested it in a few threads and have not gotten any results. Since some people also contacted me to check if anyone had provided it to me yet, I felt it warranted a dedicated thread until it was available. It undoubtedly will be in higher demand now that U.S. customers are having their phones arrive.
Once available, we can move to other thread that we are discussing and lock this with a link.
I apologize if this was bad etiquette. I already urgently need the files; Apparently along with some other users...please quit kicking a dead horse (aka me! ).

Sent you a PM.
I'm uploading them to Dropbox, you can redistribute or reuse after that (you host). I'd appreciate credit if it helps you or the community.
I have not tested the recovery and I don't remember if it's .617. stock. I've used the system and boot images to fix the decrypted data partition issues mentioned here:

I believe I was trying to follow your instructions in the TWRP thread and I did it from within TWRP immediately after booting into recovery the first time.
As I mentioned, haven't looked at it, can't say if it's TWRP or stock .617. recovery.
EDIT: Sorry, very long night after recieving my phone.
Here was my process:
Booted first time.
Unlocked bootloader
Flashed TWRP
Backup Images - in zip uploading now.
Root
S-off

I'm sure it's appreciated. At least people that messed up system somehow will have a stock system image to work with.
as far as it goes we can only pull stock recoveries from the new ota's for now.....

There's one In the twrp thread. You can flash twrp to boot partition and back up stock recovery that way, then flash boot back
